Cage Space Hardware Suggestion Seattle Area
Jun 24, 2009
We are looking to install hardware barriers for caged spaces.
We were hoping not to use cyclone fencing.
Would like to use a solution aesthetically appealing without going completely over budget.

Our company (HQ Hoboken) is planning to move our current data center to a co-location somewhere in NJ or maybe NY (Manhattan). I'm kind of inexperinced on the US market since I've never been there. However, I'm travelling to Hoboken this Saturday and hope to schedule a tour and receive some quotes.
- We are looking for a private cage with space for 5 of our own cabinets, they will hold about 20 servers each. Not sure what the AMP will be, any minimum AMP to request for?
- At least 10 Mbps burstable.
- Redundant power etc.
Any thoughts about ReliableServers, CRNC or Net Access (NJ locals)?
I've been in touch with some companys working from CA but we want to be able to have a eastern contact. Basically they have said that i.e Level 3 is full and some others as well.

Say you have a cage thats 8x12 and you need to add another row, so your cage now becomes 14x12. Now the cage installation is per linear foot. so if they are bumping one of the 12 feet walls out 6 feet. What do you think you should be charged? 6 + 6 + 12? or 6 + 6 + 12 + 12 OR 14 + 14 + 12 + 12?
Also what do you think the legality of a company charging you for a 6 + 6 + 12 + 12 expansion when the other 12 foot section is never touched? Charging for a service that isn't ever done?

for a router than can handle a couple hundred BGP peers, but will not necessarily be pushing a lot of traffic. The router should be able to handle 200-400 BGP peers, but will only need to push around 2-3 Gbit/sec.
What would anyone recommend for this specific configuration?
I am willing to spend whatever is needed, though I also don't want to just be throwing more money at it than I need to to get the job done effectively.

The server gets around 25k unique visitors per day, but one website in particular allows hotlinking and uses a lot of bandwidth. Last time I checked...according to whm apache status page, I was getting 180 requests per second. Not sure what time it was though. So it might be higher at a different time of the day.
Recently got mod_evasive installed, but I didn't want it to block out legitimate users. Currently it's set to this...
<IfModule mod_evasive20.c>
DOSHashTableSize 3097
DOSPageCount 5
DOSSiteCount 100
DOSPageInterval 2
DOSSiteInterval 2
DOSBlockingPeriod 10
DOSBlockingPeriod 600
</IfModule>
what a better configuration would be? When I run the log I already see it block out a bunch of IP's. I don't want to lose any visitors to this program, but I do get ddos a lot.

I've been with Blurstorm for 2+ years and I can say alot of good thing about the company and support. I even gave them a 5 out of 5 of webhostingjury and went as far as to say I would give them 10 out of 5, so you can imagine how happy I WAS with their service until this past week.
I has been an absolute hell. First the server kept blocking my ip and locking my session, when I would try and upload files with filezilla. They suggested to try a different ftp software which I did and it worked. At first I thought it was my computer/isp/router, so I tried it from my friend computer, same thing. And by the way, I never had this problem before. So I didn't make a big deal out of it, even though I prefer filezilla.
Now a couple of days ago, seems every time I would browse the pages or try and use the admin section the site would go down, or at least that's what I thought. After sending 8 hours going back and forth with support(Robert) through their support ticket system, because there is not live chat, Robert tells me there is nothing else they can do because they dont see any errors happening and I would have to pay a 3rd party monitoring service to find out what the problem is.
I mean I completely understand that if they cant find the problem but the site was working couple of days ago and I havent done anything different, so something must of happened on their end. Also I uploaded the site onto a friends server with a different hosting company and the site works perfectly with no problems.
Now being left high and dry with no help from Blurstorm, I did a couple of more test and found out that the site was not down but was blocking my ip and locking my sessions and the only way around it was for to renew my ip and to try again, but that would only help me for a couple of mins before it locked it again. Again, I also tried it from my friends computer and same thing. So I know for a Fact that it has to be from Blurstorm's end. I told that the server was blocking my ip and locking my session and haven't heard from them for over 16 hours, which is horrible customer service compared to the way they were before.
The main reason I stayed with blurstorm was for their support and quick response and I've referred them a boat load of business, and this was not the first time i've had problems with the server and support but I didnt make a big deal out of it and from now on no more referrals.
Well there is my review, sorry it's a little lengthy but just wanted to give an indepth review.
Second part - need suggestions for new hosting
From what I've gathers from searching that are reliable
precision effect
jaguarpc
innohosting
which would you recommend from those or any others?
And my site is based on joomla 1.5 + virtuemart so it should work with it.

I'm investigating "suspects" that could be used in a server access environment. My requirements are:
*24 or 48 10/100/1000 Mbps Ports
*Atleast 2 x 1000Mbps uplinks (fiber preferred)
*SNMP-enabled for remote bandwidth polling @ ports and uplinks
*Simple Layer 3 allowing for per port rate limiting
VLAN creation support would be a plus, but not required
The switch needs to be able to handle ~1000Mbps of constant usage
I would be open to using non-Cisco switches as well.

new Colo provider in Seattle to replace the one that we currently have. My company runs game servers.
I'm looking for an affordable location that can provide the best support possible for the price. Typically the only thing that we need is someone to reboot a server periodically, so if someone offers remote reboots that would be ideal. I'd like to start out with a single 1U server to make sure that we like the location and network before expanding. We'd use about 5 Mbit/sec per server approximately.
I've reviewed the posts about Seattle and UbiquityServers.com was recommended a few times. Does anyone have any other suggestions or any experience with UbiquityServers.com that they could share?

I am looking for info on Aveas in Seattle. They seem to have gone out of business (domain expired) and hence I also can't send emails to them.
Does anybody have info what happened, where they have gone, and if somebody is still around somewhere? I am looking for Kelly Kline.
I am trying to find out if one of our old company servers is still with them (was in their cabinet), and if a backup could be retrieved for a fee.

It seems that from the morning the servers in seattle dc of softlayer are not responding from all locations. According to softlayer noone else has reporting this issue yet, however yet from our monitoring system this has been occuring for the past two hours.
Few clients around the world also reported this, however apparently for other few this is working. Is anyone else having the same issue?

I'm trying to find decent dedicated server providers in Seattle that run peer1 or internap - I've seen a couple good providers in Seattle however the tracert's don't seem to agree with a few locations.
I know of SPRY, Softlayer and then UbiquityServer which seemed really good minus their carrier (my tracert's go to san jose then seattle (I'm in Canada) along with a few other people on the west coast.
It's being used for gaming.. I'd like to see windows on the box as-well..
Under $200/mo would be nice.
