Apache Serving Blank Pages
I am having this issue with a new box where Apache at random serves blank pages and won't serve anything but until it's restarted. I see no errors in /var/log/messages either to show why this is happening.
It's not all pages either just several various ones. I know it's not a programming issue either because the only thing the server is running is one instance of vBulletin.
I look at top during this and CPU and RAM usage are very low.
The only fix to get Apache to serve the pages is to restart it.
Anyone have any clues on what it could be?
I set my php.ini memory limit to a gig (I have 16 gigs in the sever)

Seems my site is getting random blank pages. I did some research and maybe but not sure its related to open files. PHPSuExec & Blank Pages
I am running Joomla on a server and am trying to get phpsuexec to work with it, so far without success. From searching the web and forums I managed to get rid onf my 403 and 500 errors, but now I am dealing with blank white pages on all of my sites where the page being loaded is a php file. I have all of my php calls removed from .htaccess and put into a php.ini file. What else am I missing here? Is there a conflict in my apache build maybe?

I am moving to a new server. At first the [url]version of the site was fine. I had trouble getting [url]working. Once I had the path to the certificate file correct, I was good to go. Blank Php Pages- Mod_cgi- Suexec? W00t
I am having trouble with blank pages on some web applications; ccHost and phpBB3. I can get these to run on a seperate VPS, that isn't as securely locked down and the dedi --- but it is of course the dedi I want to run these apps from. I simply get blank pages when trying to access ccHost. As if PHP isn't parsing it. But in a phpBB3 installation I'm getting random blanks, some of which I can refresh out of ... What's even weirder: sometimes when I try to viewtopic - or call some function ... I get the download dialogue!? (Do you want to open or download index.php for instance). I've been trying loads of stuff. It seems that mod_security isn't running anymore, so that isn't the issue. Could mod_cgi or mod_suexec perhaps be the cheeky offenders? I have absolutely no idea. Just hoping someone can help me where to look... Or how I can debug this issue. I'm at a loss in how to continue. Any help will be very appreciated. Some details... The server is hardened and secured, but... I'm running other CMS installs on the server, and they are working fine. Even a phpBB2 install is running smooth. [Apache] Anyway To Stop Bots Trying To Find Pages
Looking trough my logs I found something that bothers me, there are bots who keep doing requests on my website with pages like /admin or /secure to find vulnerabilities. It's making about 5-6 requests for unexisting pages every second until it comes to the end of it's dictionary (the pages are even sorted in alphabetical order, Is there some way to let my Apache server block access to these bots when they make X attemps to see a page who does not exists in a short amount of time? A bit like iptables reject connection if someone tries to log in but fails to do so too many times.

Recently, I have been needing to redirect my users to 'www.', since if they don't put the 'www.' in front of the domain the vB forum doesn't run properly. Reverse Proxy Apache ==> IIS, Need Custom Error Pages Triggered On IIS Side

IIS Just Stopped Serving..
I have been hosting a site for the past number of weeks on IIS on Server 2003..I have a no-ip a/c which is working fine along with port forwarding on my router.. The other day I restarted my server for something but now I cant seem to access my site from across the internet and according down for everyone or just me (website) it is down. I can, however, access the site using domain name from within my lan. I'm not too hot on server 2003 or IIS. What can I do to debug/diagnose the problem?

Servint - Serving Porn On My Sites
What is up with servint? I have domains and a vps through them. The vps is now serving up porn on all the sites. When I call servint they say I don't own the name but a whois shows i DO INDEED own the name for another year and it is registered to me and they are the registrar!!! The portal user/pass suddenly stopped working so I can't even put in a support ticket All I get is a message machine ... does anyone know if servint staff ever come on this board. It has probably been hacked but it is pretty disturbing when they say I don't own the domain but it is CLEAR THAT I do own it.

Speed Up Serving Large Files
I'm working on a web site which will basically be a flash games portal. I have a dedicated server running Apache 2 on a 100mbit dedicated line but my download speed for large files (flash files of over 5mbs) is really slow. I am thinking this is because of Apache but I don't know much about this. I've read that I should change for a lighter http server for serving static files. The way my server is set up is I have 2 virtual machines running, one doing the PHP processing and the other serving static files, both running Apache, so if I have to change HTTP server for the static files it would be very easy. Although I am not sure if this is necessary or if I can tune Apache to push files faster than this.

Serving Data From 2 Hard Disks
I have a server with 2 hard drives, say drive A and drive B. Right now all my files, database and data is on drive A, and drive B is empty. Since I have another drive available, I want to split the load between the two drives. I'm ok with having the web pages and the database on one drive. I mostly want to just have the data (I have about 500GB of data) split between the two drives. Note that I want to avoid duplicating the data. I want to have each file on either drive A XOR drive B. Should I map a separate subdomain to drive B and then use that subdomain to serve the half of the data thats there? Is there something I can do with hard/soft links on the server so that even though the data is on 2 drives, users still use the same url to access data on either drive? Any other options?

Media Serving And Cache Daemon
what I want to do, have a "node" somewhere serve media (static) files from a central server, but cache the static files the first time they are hit, so subsequent requests to the "node" don't require getting the file from the central server. Is there readily available solution to this?

Static File Serving - Performance
I'm planning to setup a server ONLY for hosting of static binary files varying from few KB to few MB in size. I've seen some of the litespeedtech performance benchmarks, which you can find here: [url] From the "small static file" benchmark chart, i can see that IIS6 beats lighttpd in this test. So i'm wondering does the IIS6 really have better performance at file hosting than lighttpd. Actually it does not matter which operating system i will be using at this server, since i will use it only for file serving. With lots of concurrent connections. Possibly thousands of connections. I need some feedbacks on this, so i can decide, IIS or lighttpd. Few more bucks for win2k3 won't be an issue here, if it's performance is better than lighttpd for this kind of use.

10 Second Lag Serving Static HTML
this isn't my server, so I don't have a lot of information about it, other than it's a Linux/Apache Dedicated server at EV1. (cPanel/WHM) There are other sites on the server, and they are running fine. One site has a terrible lag. It takes about 10 seconds to serve up a static HTML file.. Now, it's not like the server is slow. It's like this: You request a small HTML file. The site sits and thinks about it for about 10 seconds, and then after that everything processes quickly. The forum on the site is the same way. Everything you click on works fine and loads quickly after that initial delay passes. Is there a common configuration problem that might be causing this? /etc/nameserverips Goes Blank
when I manually edit the /etc/nameserverips file and add the ips along with their Ns addresses that is ip=ns1.xxx.com it saves up. But in the WHM,when I open network setup-->nameserver IP it goes blank and when I go back to the nameserverips its empty! Can anyone help me what can be done to stop this? Serving & Playing Breeze FIles
Having trouble hosting Macromedia Breeze files on a brand new dedicated 2003 NT box. Anything I need to adjust? When someone visits the URL, it loads the presentation main screen, but it's supposed to auto-play several movies and it won't. It works fine locally and on 2 unix servers I tested it on, but not the new NT box. The weird thing is, if I remote desktop to that server, I can't play that presentation locally or server thru the linux boxes. I figured it was an extensions thing, but like I said the intro still does appear, and if I go to Adobe.com and play a new "Adobe Presenter" presentation - it works fine.

Preferred Operating System For Web Serving
I have been online since 95 and I've got a lot of information I could help others with regarding web development and interface design. One thing I'm terrible at is System Administration, but I'm getting better and my first step is to pick a reliable operating system for both the webservers and the database servers. Would anyone be willing to answer the following questions or point me to a thread that already discusses these? A little background, our site has 200k members, 30k active and is growing by about 5k a week. We still run MySQL 4.0.27 on the DB servers and they are running FC2. The webservers are Apache 1.3.37 and PHP 4.4.2 running FC2 and FC4 as well. My questions 1. What OS would you prefer to upgrade to for the web servers? and a "few" reasons why? 2. What OS would you prefer to upgrade to for the database servers? and a "few" reasons why?

Problem Serving Gzipped Static Content
I'm trying to serve as much gzipped content as possible on my web site. I will gzip dynamic pages on the fly using PHP, and I plan to gzip static content just one time, not to use much CPU, and serve css.gz, .js.gz files, etc... So, I uploaded a test.html file and a .css file that changes the color of the text to red. I gzipped the css file: %gzip style.css I also uploaded an .htaccess file with this content: RewriteEngine on RewriteBase /gzip/ RewriteCond %{HTTP_ACCEPT_ENCODING} gzip RewriteRule ^(([^.]+.)+)css$ /$1css.gz For now I'm not going to include any gunzipped style sheet, just to make sure my browser picks the gzipped style sheet. I also uploaded a phpinfo.php file to make sure I have mod_gzip. So, here's the list of files I have: - .htaccess - style.css.gz - test.html - phpinfo.php But when I open the test.html file: [url] the style sheet isn't applied. Before the upgrades, when performing a name search in the main table of my DB, if the query returned no result, the right frame displayed the result and the usual content of the Search Tab for performing a new search. Now, the right frame displays a blank page with only the mention of ServerName - DatabaseName - TableName Is this a bug or a new (bad) feature in phpMyAdmin 3.2.0?

Plesk's Right Frame Blank
I used Plesk, I was shown a page asking for the ip address and hostname. I was unable to set it up correcly, I guess (wrong hostname?), because now when I login to Plesk the right frame is not showing at all. I just see the menu, but when I click on the tabs (all except virtuoso), the right frame is just blank. my question is: how do I get the page where I can set up correctly the hostname again? I found some info but it only applies to plesk7, while I have Plesk 8.1. I have to update some config database I guess.

Forum Is Showing A Blank Page
A few days ago i was transferred to a different server within my hosting company. All of my sites remained the same except the only forum i have (phpbb3) now displays a blank page. All the files and database are still intact and nothing has been changed. Any suggestions as to how i would fix this problem? would it be best to backup the database and reinstall a new copy of phpbb?

Linux/cPanel Blank Screen
I have a server that crash at random time intervals. Mostly it crashes in between 7 days. The console is just chowing a blank screen. The specs of the system are: Linux Distro: CentOS 4.5, kernel 2.6.9-55.0.6.ELsmp (tried multiple kernels). Control Panel: cPanel 11.x Hardware Info:Tyan server barebone - GT20 B5350G20S4H dual processor intel xeon 4 GB Reg. DDR RAM 4 x 250 GB Western Digital WD2500JS-00 Hard Disks ARECA-1110 4xSATAII PCI-X Raid controller. I tried everything on the software part. Update the kernel, keep system software up to date. Nothing workerd. The load is just normal and memory usage is only 1GB out of 4GB. There are no entries in the log files witch are pointing to an error. Everything is leading to an hardware issue. I suspect the raid controller or memory. The power supply is not an problem I think because the server consumes still power when it has a blank screen.

What Type Of Server And Os, Etc For Just File Serving- Small Files Like Under 10kb
I have a website that just serves small files, under 10kb most of them. I just need a server that lets me ftp the file to it, set up subdomains and domains for one website. Don't need to manage mysql or anything. Not even php. Just serve files. A good fast OS? Something like lighttpd? Ioono? I'm currently doing 600gb of bandwidth per month. I'm expecting to do about 1000gb by the end of the year. Would a small server like a pentium 4 be able to handle just serving files?

WHM Reseller Center Blank Page
I keep getting an white screen on the reseller center in WHM. It's also showing up a few other places like clustering for example. I had a complaint from a customer that when they setup a WHM account, the reseller is missing most of their options from the ACL list as well. I have tried to reboot, restart each service and force an upgrade of cpanel and it keep coming back. Does anyone know what can cause this. An Otherwise Great Performing Server Now Delays Prior To Serving PHP/mysql
One of my dedicateds (Fedora 7 / apache 1.39 / php5 mysql5) has been running flawlessly but now has a strange ~4-5 second delay when serving up PHP/mysql pages such as Wordpress. I say delay because it appears to think about it for several seconds, then when the page finally begins the refresh process, everything serves up lightning fast. Latency is low, direct file downloads are faster than ever. ModSecurity is running, and accounts for about 1 second of that delay (tested with it on and off), but the other 3-4 seconds is a mystery.

Blank Render After Copying Over Files From Previous Box
I recently bought a VPS and set up everything for it manually (apache, php, mysql). I had an old host which I got my files and MySQL database from. I have successfully copied them all over and imported the .sql file. I have also checked my config options and updated them to the new settings. However, when I go to my site, I just get a blank, white screen. The site is fine because a test file that doesn't use my phpBB installation from before renders properly as well as the index.php file from the ./install/ directory of phpBB. If it was a connection problem with MySQL, I would assume that it would print some sort of error stating that it can't connect. Here are some steps that I've tried so far (I would use a list here but I supposedly need five posts): * chmod 777 on my entire /var/www/html/ directory. * chown /var/www/html/ to the apache user, which is the one running the apache webserver. * Checking error logs and not finding anything that seemed catastrophic (i.e. just notifications about a favicon being missing). * Editing the .htaccess file to be empty. At this point, I don't know what to do. I am willing to reinstall phpBB properly, although I would really rather not, and I imagine that there's some way to salvage my previous installation. If you're wondering why I'm posting here instead of the phpBB forums, it's because I have a hunch that it's more likely related to my installing MySQL, Apache and PHP. Phish Pages
I have these few old accounts(websites) that has history of being phish attacked. The problem is like this. When I transfer them to newer server using whm backup transfer in most cases hacker can still upload phish pages BUT if I recreate the account and moved old the files manually to that new account and server phish attacked is gone. Any idea why this is happening? Probably old cpanel files that causes this? where do I start? For some reasons I cannot just recreate the account then do it manually in behalf of the clients. Some sites are somehow complicated if I do it manually.

Linking Pages With Different Hosts
If the user links to a different page and domain hosted by the same company is the browser experience quicker? If I have 2 webpages with 2 different hosts and wish to link them is there any meaningful slowdown for the user, to transfer to different pages with different hosts. Do all the pages of a domain need to be hosted from the one host?

I'm not sure if this is correct place to post this, but I had a look round and couldn't see anything particularly appropriate. Can someone point me in the right direction... give me a link or some advice... I want to learn about 302 pages, 301 pages and other types of pages. I read that 302 pages may mean a website's traffic is being redirected by someone else...? 404s On Dynamic Pages Only
I have a problem with a site that I'm hosting on a managed dedicated server - I'll try to explain this as simply as possible! From my office I seem to have a problem viewing dynamic pages on the site. - The HTML index page loads fine - Internal dynamic PHP pages throw up 404s - Other PHP pages/sites on the same server are fine - The pages load fine using a proxy browser - I've cleared my cache which made no difference - From other locations (home) I have never had the problem I'm obviously worried that I'm not the only person having these problems. The fact that the site loads fine through a proxy indicates that there's not a problem with the server, However I'm confused that it's not a local problem as the HTML pages shouldn't be loading either right?

Custom Error Pages
I am trying to control access to an asp page by using windows resource groups. The virtual directory in IIS has both 'Integrated Windows Authentication' and 'Basic Authentication' checked. When an unauthorized user tries to access this page, it prompts thrice for the user ID and password before going to the 'user not authorized' page. I want it to display the error the very first time an unauthorized user tries to access this page and not ask him thrice before throwing the error page. The operating system being used is Windows 2003 server.

HostGator Ads In My Error Pages?
I just got an account with HostGator and when I typed in part of my site's URL wrong it went to some kinda shady looking HostGator spam site. There's some message that says something about money from their ads going to charity. Does anybody know if they actually donate the money to charity and if so which charity? Even if the money does go to charity, I think it is extremely unprofessional of them to override the error pages that I uploaded with my site.

Danger Code In My Website Pages
I have a starnge code in my websites pages, I found it yesterday and i went to clean the pages. Now after about 12 hours it came back again, It is not possible to moniter like this problem and clean a huge number of pages. I dont know how this happened, I need someone to help me to know the source of the problem from where it comes. It is appears as a torjan for the users. I attached a pic shows a sample of that code.

Apache includes a handy little program called ab You can use this to measure how long it takes a web site to deliver a page n times I wonder if people would like to state how fast their sites using shared web hosting can deliver simple pages, one in HTML and one in PHP (people can add other scripting languages if they wish. Please don't post the site name or host name, just the results; I'd be interested in seeing what the range of results is, without getting into debates about hosting sites. SSL With Links In Https Pages...
I have an SSL cert installed to have a secure commerce area. Some of the pages have external links to non-secure sites like say [url]The padlock icon breaks and warns that there's unauthorized content. The hosting provider says it's because the external links need to be https links. Obviously that can't be done to a non-secure external site. So the question is: do external http links break security on a secure https page? If so, is there a work around other than removing external links?
