I'm thinking in changing my actual dedicated server, but I'm not sure if I will win with the change.
I use it for web hosting, but I am going to need a lot of Mysql use.
I also want to work with Flash Media Server or Red5, but I have the project stopped.
All are almost in the same price. What do you recommend me?
I have never touched Linux and my Server is Windows 2003, do you recommend me to change to Linux?

View 12 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone have an opinion on the Intel Dual Xeon Quad Core Clovertown versus the AMD Dual Core Dual Opteron? I'm assuming the Xeon is better. I recently put in an order for one, and I'm hoping I made the right decision (Yes I know it would have made more sense to ask before ordering but that's not how I roll) .

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've spend some time today in reading about different Intel based processors. I'm learning fast (I didn't know too much about chips... untill now ) but there is something I still need to ask, since I didn't find an answer. So:
Which Quad-Core Xeon processor (from low cost ones) do you like more?
... Kentsfield, Yorkfield, Clovertown, Clovertown" (low voltage), Harpertown, Harpertown (low voltage).
From waht I saw I could guess that Clovertown is the most popular...?

Which CPU is better 2 physical CPU of 2.8ghz Xeon vs Single CPU of quad core 6600.
Quad core got more FSB and L2 Cache and less power.
Which is a better option? Both priced same, I know with the Xeon 5310 the possibility of upgrading to dual cpu's.
Quote:
Single Processor Quad Core Xeon 3220 - 2.40GHz (Kentsfield) - 2 x 4MB cache
Single Processor Quad Core Xeon 5310 - 1.60GHz (Clovertown) - 1 x 8MB cache
Which would give higher performance in a shared web hosting environment?
How much do you think the lowest price I can get for these specs?
Dual Processor Quad Core Xeon E5405 - 2.00GHz (Harpertown)
12Gig ram
100Mbit line with 5,000GB+ Bandwidth

Just wondering because I'm looking around and its hard to spot a good deal these days.
I'm trying to figure out for sure which is best. Which would you do? The second is a bit older technology, I guess, but it seems to me that two discreet older Xeons would be better than one dual core newer Xeon.

Which is better for a Game server?
I have a Quad Core Xeon right now that I had set up with RAID 1. I'm getting horrible Disk I/O rates for this drive, 1.57MB/sec sequential write speeds. I'm having slowdowns that seem to be database related and more specifically I/O related. I run both my webserver (IIS/ASP) and my database (SQL SERVER 2000) on this Quad Core Xeon box with 4GB RAM. The disk I/O is killing me. I see that I have plenty of CPU cycles and plenty of free memory. At this point I'd sacrifice RAID 1 for better performance.
Should I got with the Quad Core Xeon with 4GB RAM for this webserver/database server config or go with 2 Core2Duo servers with 2GB RAM each?
I'm getting a quad core server and am wondering is there any much difference (performance, stability?) between a quad core Xeon 5400 series and a Core2Quad Q9300?

AMD X4 Quad Core 9500
RAM : 4096 MB
Disk Drives: 2 X 250 GB SATA
and
Intel Quad Core Q9300 4x2.5 GHz
RAM : 2048 MB
Disk Drives: 2 X 250 GB SATA
both in the same price . so i need some advice for who are the best performance and the ideal for webhosting service.
We are hosting our software system which do calculation and file manipulation.
Now we have Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 and would like to get Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 to increase our system performance.
Also we have other choice, get Intel Xeon E5405 Harpertown 2.0GHz
to replace two above.
I think it is better to have one server box because one box easy to manage than two. Also Harpertown is much faster than these two together.
What is your opinion?
I want to colo dual xeon 3ghz/ 2 x 250 sata drive and Dual core 3.0 / 2 x250 Sata drive.
How much amp these server need? One colo company said 4amp for dual and 2 for dual core. Do I need 6amp for 2 servers? Rack comes with 15amp so I need half rack?
