Best Option? Dual Xeon 2.4 / Xeon 3075 / Core2Duo E6750 / Quad Core X3210
I'm thinking in changing my actual dedicated server, but I'm not sure if I will win with the change. I use it for web hosting, but I am going to need a lot of Mysql use. I also want to work with Flash Media Server or Red5, but I have the project stopped. All are almost in the same price. What do you recommend me? 2 X Core2Duo Vs. 1 X Quad Core Xeon
I have a Quad Core Xeon right now that I had set up with RAID 1. I'm getting horrible Disk I/O rates for this drive, 1.57MB/sec sequential write speeds. I'm having slowdowns that seem to be database related and more specifically I/O related. I run both my webserver (IIS/ASP) and my database (SQL SERVER 2000) on this Quad Core Xeon box with 4GB RAM. The disk I/O is killing me. I see that I have plenty of CPU cycles and plenty of free memory. At this point I'd sacrifice RAID 1 for better performance. Should I got with the Quad Core Xeon with 4GB RAM for this webserver/database server config or go with 2 Core2Duo servers with 2GB RAM each?

How would processor performace compare assuming the harddrives were the same and the amount of ram was the same? For example, how would a system with older dual xeon 2.4 or 2.8 cpus compare to Intel Core2 Duo E4300 socket 775, 2x 1.8Ghz/1M L2 system? I am guessing that the Intel Core2 Duo would win, but by how much? I am sure this is hard to compare since ram speeds are different as well, but hopefully someone can make an estimate.

We are hosting our software system which do calculation and file manipulation. Now we have Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 and would like to get Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 to increase our system performance. Also we have other choice, get Intel Xeon E5405 Harpertown 2.0GHz to replace two above. I think it is better to have one server box because one box easy to manage than two. Also Harpertown is much faster than these two together. What is your opinion?

I'm trying to install CentOS 4.4 in dual core 2 box without success, can't even finish installation. Read about a bug closed because it doesn't happen in CentOS 5, thus leaving me no option but to use unstable cPanel 11. Does anyone have any clue about this? Seems strange that there's no workaround.

Intel Xeon 3320 = Core2Quad Q9400
on my dedicated server provider it said that i was ordering a Quad core Xeon 3320 2.5 ghz and when i got it and checked the server specs, it said Core2Quad Q9400 2.66 GHZ. I emailed them why it didnt say Xeon 3320, and this is their response Intel repackaged the Core2Duo Q9300 as the Intel Xeon 3320. The only difference that Intel will verify is that the CPU will readout "Xeon X3320" instead of "Q9300". Both chips have the same components. If you look at other sites, you will see them list other processors in the same way "Xeon XXXX 2.XGhz (Core2Duo/Quad)". Ive had different opinions from different people saying they are the same and some saying that they are not. So im asking you guys now. Is this true?
