Dual Core Atoms
where is currently the "best" places to rent a dual core atom with about 2gb of ram, storage requirements are very low sub 50gb. I am interested in getting two of these in total in different dcs (US/EU only). Also something which I feel would be interesting is getting one up with a SSD. Has any one come across any where offering this? There seems to be alot of variation on prices directly in the atom niche, and then we you compare it to the same companies offering on their bigger brothers (quad core xyz) it makes things much more confusing. Core 2 Duo Vs Dual Xeon
How would processor performace compare assuming the harddrives were the same and the amount of ram was the same? For example, how would a system with older dual xeon 2.4 or 2.8 cpus compare to Intel Core2 Duo E4300 socket 775, 2x 1.8Ghz/1M L2 system? I am guessing that the Intel Core2 Duo would win, but by how much? I am sure this is hard to compare since ram speeds are different as well, but hopefully someone can make an estimate.

CentOS 4.4 And Intel Dual Core 2
I'm trying to install CentOS 4.4 in dual core 2 box without success, can't even finish installation. Read about a bug closed because it doesn't happen in CentOS 5, thus leaving me no option but to use unstable cPanel 11. Does anyone have any clue about this? Seems strange that there's no workaround.

To Upgrade Server, Question About Dual-core Servers And Best Config For Mysql
I'm running a message board and it looks like I've outgrown the low end xeon 3040 1.86GHz dual core server, and the bulk of the CPU load is going to mysqld. I'm debating between offloading the DB to a dedicated server vs upgrading the existing server and hosting the web server and db on the same machine. Any thoughts on the better approach? fwiw, the load from apache seems next to nothing right now, but I am also planning on adding an SMTP server for user registrations and general support email. I'm also not super familiar with dual-core and dual processor machines. Does shifting mysql to a dual core or dual proc machine help (vs a single core/single proc machine)? since there is just one mysql daemon, does having a second core or proc. buy me anything?

Dual PSU Dual PDU
in my experience, when I take a server with Dual PSU and plug in just one of the PSU to a PDU, the PDU reads 2 amps. When I plug in the second PSU, it still reads 2 amps, not much change. May be it was originally 1.6 and the additional PSU just added 0.4amps. Now, if I am planning to plug in the two PSUs into two different PDUs, what should I see reading on both of the PDUs? 2 amps and 0 amps? 1 amp each? or something else? How do you guys normally balance the power? cause I bet if I unplug one of the PSUs the other PDU where the second PSU is connected will read 2 amps. So its seems to be happening at some what random, or am I missing something here?

What To Chose Intel Core 2 Quad+Intel Core 2 Duo Or Harpertown
We are hosting our software system which do calculation and file manipulation. Now we have Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 and would like to get Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 to increase our system performance. Also we have other choice, get Intel Xeon E5405 Harpertown 2.0GHz to replace two above. I think it is better to have one server box because one box easy to manage than two. Also Harpertown is much faster than these two together. What is your opinion?

Dual Processors On/off
I am looking at some options for a server and have a dual processor question. I am looking at a server with two Dempsey 5050 processors. My question is this. Is it possible to put two Dempsey 5050 processors in a server and turn one of them off so it can not be used? I know some are going to say why do i want to do this and I might as well explain it now to get it out of the way. My colo will not let me keep space parts on hand and I have a client that may want to single Dempsey 5050 processor in his server and I would like to keep one Dempsey 5050 on hand as a spare for my server and other servers that use the Dempsey 5050 processor. I figured if put one on a board that supports two Dempsey 5050's and turn it off it would be like keeping a spare on hand.

This is probably the wrong location for this thread but I am unsure which section it is best located at. I have 2 hard drives - 1 has XP pro installed (master drive) on it and the other is blank and set to slave. On the blank one i intedn to install Red Hat linux. Dual PSU Switch
Does anyone know of a fairly low cost dual power supply Ethernet switch. Nothing fancy is needed, just a simple 12-24 port switch that has redundant power features. Our router and four little servers all have dual power supplies. Two big UPS units in a redundant setup would work great for us. The only weak link in the setup is the switch.

Dual Opteron 270's Vs Others
Just recently while browsing Newegg and Ebay, I realized I could build a great server consisting of Dual Opteron 270's to 280's with Dual HDD's, Great Asus 1U Barebones Setup , 4GB of Ram for about $650 if I went with used CPU's Now I don't know about you, but that sounds like quite the bang for the buck. Also considering I have an aggregate bandwidth commitment, and only pay $50 per server I add to my rack, it really isn't a huge downside to say build three of these rather then one Harpertown setup. Well at least this is my opinion. I was curious to see what others opinions are. I figure with the up and coming cloud technology, and the high prices of new technology, this would be a good investment, but do you think it is worth it to build outdated hardware? Would I be better off just building higher spec servers? How do these servers stack up to some of the newer technology? Are they still considered poewrful? Anyways just thought I would get some opinions before I went and bought a bunch of outdated hardware
