If you have experience with large mysql databases please share your thoughts about a new MySQL server. If all other parameters are the same, what is better for a 6-10 GB MySQL db, dedicated server?
Dual XEON or Dual Opteron 2212 Dual Core Processor?
Also, any advice on suggested RAM, partitioning, OS, etc. are welcome. Current MySQL version used is 4.1.21.
What's better? I guess for a forum that has 200+ people on throughout the day. Both would have 2gb of ram.
View 1 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone have an opinion on the Intel Dual Xeon Quad Core Clovertown versus the AMD Dual Core Dual Opteron? I'm assuming the Xeon is better. I recently put in an order for one, and I'm hoping I made the right decision (Yes I know it would have made more sense to ask before ordering but that's not how I roll) .

I'm thinking in changing my actual dedicated server, but I'm not sure if I will win with the change.
I use it for web hosting, but I am going to need a lot of Mysql use.
I also want to work with Flash Media Server or Red5, but I have the project stopped.
All are almost in the same price. What do you recommend me?
I have never touched Linux and my Server is Windows 2003, do you recommend me to change to Linux?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've spend some time today in reading about different Intel based processors. I'm learning fast (I didn't know too much about chips... untill now ) but there is something I still need to ask, since I didn't find an answer. So:
Which Quad-Core Xeon processor (from low cost ones) do you like more?
... Kentsfield, Yorkfield, Clovertown, Clovertown" (low voltage), Harpertown, Harpertown (low voltage).
From waht I saw I could guess that Clovertown is the most popular...?
Trying to determine how much better, if any, the Dual Opteron 265 would be over the Quad 6600... this is for a dedicated server.
Also... would it be worth $20 per month more for a Dual Opteron 2212?
Which is better for a dedicated server, if you have to choose one? any experience, reviews...

different speed between Quadcore Q6600 2.4Ghz and Xeon 3060 Dual core 2.4Ghz? Typically i can tell the Q6600 is faster than Xeon 3060 but i am not sure which one is faster and more stable for dedicated server.
View 5 Replies View Related3i want to buy new erver and i have choice of the fallowing
AMD X4 Quad Core 9500
RAM : 4096 MB
Disk Drives: 2 X 250 GB SATA
and
Intel Quad Core Q9300 4x2.5 GHz
RAM : 2048 MB
Disk Drives: 2 X 250 GB SATA
both in the same price . so i need some advice for who are the best performance and the ideal for webhosting service.
We are hosting our software system which do calculation and file manipulation.
Now we have Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 and would like to get Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 to increase our system performance.
Also we have other choice, get Intel Xeon E5405 Harpertown 2.0GHz
to replace two above.
I think it is better to have one server box because one box easy to manage than two. Also Harpertown is much faster than these two together.
What is your opinion?
Which is a better option? Both priced same, I know with the Xeon 5310 the possibility of upgrading to dual cpu's.
Quote:
Single Processor Quad Core Xeon 3220 - 2.40GHz (Kentsfield) - 2 x 4MB cache
Single Processor Quad Core Xeon 5310 - 1.60GHz (Clovertown) - 1 x 8MB cache
Which would give higher performance in a shared web hosting environment?
while I'm surfing the net i find this site where it has a price list for the parts of a computer and i saw an Intel Xeon processor and it's priced is affordable to me.. Hmm.. My question now is it Ok to buy this processor? because some of my I.T. friends here tell me that it is for Server based processor only and it is not suitable for PC HOME USER..

Which is better for a Game server?
I have a Quad Core Xeon right now that I had set up with RAID 1. I'm getting horrible Disk I/O rates for this drive, 1.57MB/sec sequential write speeds. I'm having slowdowns that seem to be database related and more specifically I/O related. I run both my webserver (IIS/ASP) and my database (SQL SERVER 2000) on this Quad Core Xeon box with 4GB RAM. The disk I/O is killing me. I see that I have plenty of CPU cycles and plenty of free memory. At this point I'd sacrifice RAID 1 for better performance.
Should I got with the Quad Core Xeon with 4GB RAM for this webserver/database server config or go with 2 Core2Duo servers with 2GB RAM each?
I'm getting a quad core server and am wondering is there any much difference (performance, stability?) between a quad core Xeon 5400 series and a Core2Quad Q9300?

I'm trying to install CentOS 4.4 in dual core 2 box without success, can't even finish installation. Read about a bug closed because it doesn't happen in CentOS 5, thus leaving me no option but to use unstable cPanel 11. Does anyone have any clue about this? Seems strange that there's no workaround.
