Subject: IMPORTANT - BACKUP YOUR DATA
AnchorVPS System Message:
08/03/2007 12:14 AM
Hello,
AnchorVPS is now unable to provide any service to any of
our clients. We ask that you backup your data within 48 hours and find
another provider.
If you have any questions or queries then
please contact us at support@anchorvps.com
Thank
You,
AnchorVPS Administration
Never thought a company would do this to their own clients. 48 hour notice?
Thought the headers in the email were suspect so I decided to open up a ticket asking if this is a legitimate message.

at first my experience with AnchorVPS was great. I was setting up a VPS for a few of my personal sites. About a week after I signed up, I decided that I didn't have time to run these websites, so I took them down. I didn't send a cancellation notice to them because I figured they would send me an email to pay, and I would then respond. Nope, not the case. My VPS was $45/month with cPanel. I expected them to simply disconnect it when I didn't pay, because I was not online for a period of time (except to peek in here and there). I come back online to see my VPS is still online. Maybe their billing system was faulty? Nope - They just state that they need 7 days notice, and until then, your VPS will stay online, and your balance will go up and up and up. Now I owe $45 for a service I didn't use, and I don't have that extra money to simply give away. They are blaming the fact that they must charge me on licensing, but I know that's not the case. Other than that, if you follow the ToS, then they are 7/10. Good servers, good speeds, stable VPSs.

I signed up with AnchorVPS about a month ago for a big project I have stuck on my head and been wanting to do for some time now. I heard they were using a new techonoly and decided to take it for a test drive.
Let me say that I'm very pleased with the service. I ask them for help installing my scripts twice and they helped me quickly, in about 30 minutes. My server it's fast and I'm happy for the price. I bought Anchor-12, being that my budget was around 40 bucks a month.
I should have mention that when I bought it, I got a free upgrade, which is always a nice surprice. Never had a down time, fast respnse, reliable hardware, I'm happy.
Just for the moderators to check, I use my VPS for shoutcast hosting and my main domain is nurvweb.com which I have yet to make a site. Trying all CMS at the moment to see which one is best.

Everything was fine a until a day or so ago.. The server went down and I asked Otto, the owner why it was down. He says it was hacked and the hard drive was corrupted. All my files were lost. So I figured yeah I didn't back up... my fault.. But he said he secured the server when I got it so part was his fault and he admitted it. So he says he'll make a new one with LXAdmin for free as an upgrade since he screwed up... Well now here today, the new server is totally down and I can't access it at all and he's not responding to my messages. So I lost my work for clients and I lost my own personal sites and the money from the people I was hosting. His service was horrible and I wouldn't recommend him to anyone.

For VOIP traffic I am thinking of moving some servers from bay area to C4D.
I store all my server boxes so its easy to UPS them.
My question is if i wanted the servers to be shipped back from c4d in case of any reason in future do they keep the original boxes around to ship the servers back?

from what I view, wait_timeout is used for disconnecting connections. However, it applies to tcp/ip connection only. So, in my database connection, if I am using mysql server as localhost, that variable is not applied? In that case, how can I close connections automatically after xxx seconds?

How to close any communication between the server and some hosts/domains?
So there won't be any in/out connection between the server and those domains?
can APF firewall or mod_security do this?

Since moving servers I've been plagued by constant disconnects whilst using FTP:
421 No transfer timeout (300 seconds): closing control connection
I've gone through Proftpd's forum and documentation numerous times to try and find a solution to this but have been unsuccessful so far.
Within proftpd's config file it's set at:
TimeoutLogin 120
TimeoutIdle 3600
TimeoutNoTransfer 3600
TimeoutStalled 3600
So I am unsure where it is getting the "300 seconds" from.
Even though the error states 300 seconds, this problem happens way before 300 seconds every time and has happened during the transfer of files (when the connection has been active and in use).
I've tried 3 different FTP clients and used the "Keep Alive" option in each and it has absolutely no effect.
I am unsure if APF is causing the problem, I can't see any problems in any of the server logs in relation to ftp.

I am currently running DA on my VPS and have about 15-20 accounts on it. We are upgrading to a dedicated running plesk while we need it, but I have not found a tool or an easy way to transfer DA accounts to plesk without problems. Because of this, I feel it would be easiest to transfer the accounts to a cPanel VPS, then to plesk. I know hosts are not supposed to PM here, but if you can offer me a cPanel VPS sometime within the next week for 24-48 hours for under $5-7, that would be great. This may seem like a little amount of money, but realistically it is a good amount in comparison to the pricing for a whole month of service.
It can be OpenVZ, virtuozzo, or Xen.

I am wanting to get access to 'top -c' for a period of 48/72 hours.
Now I have found the following
Code:
top -c -b -d 15 > top.txt
What this does is every 15 seconds add reply 'top -c' to top.txt
Now I can make this into a shell script then put it into the background and exit SSH while leaving it running.
Now the question is will this use much usage/server load over the 48/72hrs, it will be checking 4 times every minute.

It takes 4 hours to replace a harddrive? What are they, sloths?
Anyone else had similar experiences when attempting to get drives replaced?

I'm not a direct client of Leaseweb, but it's not a secret that my domain is pointing at their servers.
I purchased a shared hosting plan from a reseller and since more than 43 hours my domain is down! My provider (the reseller) said he's waiting for Leaseweb support... according to my informations, in more than 24 hours they just made a reboot of the server!
I'm really bored of waiting with no chance of intervention! My provider says he can't do anything from his side, i can't contact Leaseweb cause i'm not a client... please, help, what can i do?
I need my site back online!

like to clarify this is not a post to bash liquidweb.
I have been a loyal customer of LW for the past 2 years (almost)
My websites have been down since Thursday 3:00 a.m due to "DDos Attack"
on Friday night, the network engineer told me the "DDos Attack" has stopped and problem should have been resolved. However, no websites were accessible.
On Saturday, I ensure you I have made many phone calls to Liquidweb dedicated server support and try to resolve this issue. (Never once did I raise my voice and they were being very polite.)
I believe the server admins that were helping was at the end of their shifts and every time I try to make a phone call to the person that was assisting me to get an update, liquidweb would tell me that he has gone home. Every time the server admin finishes his shift, the support ticket is not assigned to anyone else that is working until I make a phone call to them stating my problem.
I own quite a few large sites that generate over 3 millions hits per day and every hour of downtime means I will be losing valuable clients and revenue. That is why I am extremely frustrated with the 63 hours downtime as it seems like the results of working hard for the past 2 years is slipping away from me as the clock keeps ticking.
I am sorry, I am just trying to share this with fellow webmasters as I really need a place to express my feeling. (None of my friends will understand online business.)
Again, I am not bashing liquidweb...I must have really bad luck myself.

I'm extremely worry about my VPS as it hosts 3 important websites to me. I can't let it down like this.
I submitted ticket, email, tried to call the number on your website but it is just an automatic answer.
So please at least let me know what happening? Your website says support 24/7 so where are you in the last 6 hours?

To start please take this in mind I have servers colo'd at FDC and have 0 problems, so i'm still all for fdc servers.
Here is my 24 hours review on my new vps server from FDC setup was quick less than 5hours after paying my invoice.
Now down to my problems. Off peak hours last night my VPS server was great 10 / 20mbits solid speed on sending data from the box today I am unable to get over 150kb/sec.
This doesn't help me since the nature of my business I need to transfer files fast between servers. The VPS speeds of 150kb/sec will be no use for my business if anything make our job harder.
These tests were taken using the internal fdc network transferring from the new vps to one of my 1gig fdc colos and other various servers I have on the FDC network.
After contacting fdc support about this speed issue they logged in and checked the speeds they did a download of the speedtest file from the fdc website around 30 - 40mbits. But they didn't test the outgoing from the server.
I received the response that I am sharing bandwidth on the node so speeds could vary so on there 100mbit unmetered vds package they are saying 150kb/sec is acceptable.
So basically after that my last response is if 150kb/sec are the speeds i can expect from a VDS then please cancel my server at the end of the billing period as the VDS will be no use to me.
So now I have been transferred to billing to cancel the vps at the end of the billing period.
So to sum it up, vps setup was fast and the vps runs great but don't expect the speeds you can get from one of there dedicated servers.

Is Nick Laws here? Someone knows where to call him or managemybox.com?
I have 3 servers with them. One of them is down for almost 16 hours now, and it has been 4 hours without notice. Tech replied saying is a harddrive crash and they will replace it, I have lost a lot of dollars because all important clients on this server are running out.
Now, can someone help me contact Nick? I sent him a message a minutes ago, but his techs are nto replying and one of my clients is really in a bad mood saying he will take legal actions against me.
Anyone can say a word? This is really bad and I dont get even a reply, just a word last night saying a few hours.
This is the ticket:
Dear Felipe,
ssh down too, will have a tech reboot and clear firewall, will take about 15 minutes

It's been a while I'm into web hosting and I know I have to wait up to 72 hours for DNS to propagate.
I've got that weird problem since I changed host, my DNS stays the same as before, even if I migrated since over a week.
I did the ipflush thing and it did not work. It seems like my computer WON'T update the DNS on this single domain.
I've got 2 computers at home and my other computer has updated, but my other won't update.

Im running MySQL 5.0.32 on a Debian Etch server. I recently moved a couple sites from a Debian Sarge (with MySQL 4.1) server over, and now MySQL has become very unstable.
Every few hours mysql just hangs on a query. All the following queries are queued and never get executed. The only way to get things running again is forcefully killing and restarting the mysql process. After that things work again...for a few hours.
The logs (error and query log) show nothing exceptional. When it hangs and I do a 'show processlist;' I noticed that everytime a SELECT....IN (a,b,c) query is holding up everything. Could the 'IN ()' be the reason for mysql not completing the query and holding up the rest?
Another option might be to temp. go back to MySQL 4.1...but that is going to be a real problem on Debian Etch
