I am setting up a single sign on system using a ubuntu server with apache tomcat and CAS. My question is a bit more general though.
Clients will log on to a system by giving my web server their username/password and my web server has to authenticate and authorize them. Now to do this I want my web server to send some sort of request to another web server with the username/password and let the other web server check its database and send an ok/not ok signal back to my web server.
How would you do this? My first thought was using certificates to make the communication secure and then use http request and responses but I am not sure if this is actually possible.
I found a couple which i am thinking about at the moment, but what motivated me to make this thread is my current experience with geekstorage.
While the service was friendly and the transfer from my previous host was flawless, i am having a communications problem here that might lead to a disaster. And i explain myself:
When i made the transfer, i asked for a demo account, even for some days so i could test a real account on a real server and not just the links most hosts showcase that might actually be hosted on much better hardware and faster servers.
There was no option for that, but there was the option of me canceling my account at any time during a 60 day period with no questions asked. For varied reasons which do not really have something to do with geekstorage specifically but my own taste of the services, i want to move to a new host. However, even after 2 tickets & 1 pm at the geekstorage forum, i still have to hear back from staff and i am getting nervous because i am closing in on the 60 day mark and i am afraid that someone might be able to take advantage of that. I am not saying that a typical person would, especially since the tickets were before the 60th day, but i have seen a lot so i am getting nervous nonetheless.
This is the last place i would be willing to make this matter public, as i understand it might make some people think badly of geekstorage. This was not my intention at all and geekstorage can really be a great host for you, if it covers your needs well. But not replying to customers when they request something you shout you provide, while on the other hand, replying lightning fast when ordering or moving is infuriating at least.
I would happily go on and not post this, but either way, i am forced to do so, since i do not know of any other place i can talk with like-minded people on such matters. Sometimes, reviews can be good or bad, this one is bad but not about the services, rather than the way they communicate. Accepting that a product/service is not for you is a good thing and it does not mean you cant suggest a service YOU don't like to someone else that might do. But such ways are bad anyway you look at it and do not warrant any suggestions.
And keep this in mind. Even if someone from geekstorage replies to this thread, what will their excuse be for not replying FIRST at my tickets (and any other tickets for that matter), but at a friendly forum?
People expect to have the same kind of service as they get on day one. If you are only motivated to bring customers in, then you wont keep them for long, that's for sure. I was expecting the same kind of service i got on the first days, which i didn't.

In a linux webserver how can you setup two servers to communicate via eth1 rather than eth0. We wish to use eth1 for internal communication between our public webserver and our database server. So that we do not incurr charges on the public switch.
from what I view, wait_timeout is used for disconnecting connections. However, it applies to tcp/ip connection only. So, in my database connection, if I am using mysql server as localhost, that variable is not applied? In that case, how can I close connections automatically after xxx seconds?

Hello,
AnchorVPS is now unable to provide any service to any of our clients. We ask that you backup your data within 48 hours and find another provider.
If you have any questions or queries then please contact us at support@anchorvps.com
Thank You,

Never thought a company would do this to their own clients. 48 hour notice?
Thought the headers in the email were suspect so I decided to open up a ticket asking if this is a legitimate message.

I'm running CentOS with Paralells Plesk bundled Paralellls Premium Antivirus (Dr Web). After the latest yum updates DrWeb continously seems to crash and be restarted by the Parallells watchdog. By default there were no logs for DrWeb, but when I enable logging to a file it gets spammed continously with the following error:
Cannot create pipe for communication with scanning childs (Too many open files)and the Drweb process runs at 99% CPU for long periods. This totally fills the disk with logs and I've now disabled logging again and Drweb is back to continously being restarted by the watchdog.
So I am unsure where it is getting the "300 seconds" from.
Even though the error states 300 seconds, this problem happens way before 300 seconds every time and has happened during the transfer of files (when the connection has been active and in use).
I've tried 3 different FTP clients and used the "Keep Alive" option in each and it has absolutely no effect.
I am unsure if APF is causing the problem, I can't see any problems in any of the server logs in relation to ftp.
how many domains can be allocated on one server and run correctly without any issues? And what would be the best technical specification for the server?
how many domains can I host on server with 1GB RAM, 2x250GB HDD SATA, 3Ghz CPU?
I'm currently experiencing a problem where all domains on a server are not resolving with www. --- the domains themselves resolve fine, but the www. cnames are not resolving to the domains. This has caused quite a frustration and I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this and if there is a quick fix to resolve it.
The domains appear to have the correct structure for the www. cname pointed to the domains so I'm guessing it must be something else.
I'm seeing this from WHM/cPanel --- the operating system is CENTos
I just wanted to know if there's any way I could speed up the process of moving my clients domains from our old server to our new server.
All my clients are currently on server1 and I want to move them all to server2.
I know I can go in and change the name servers for each domain to the new server (NS) but just wanted to know if theres a quicker way such as changing the Ip Adresses in the SOA records to point to the IP address of the new server.
Then if they're already loading off the new servers ip address, I can then change the domains name servers afterwards.
My VPS was a clean build 2 weeks ago and so far i have installed cpanel and configured everything and added accounts. I began that one of my scripts that uses gethostbyaddr($ip) was failing to resolve any of the ip's it received. I made another PHP file to test this, with this code:
PHP Code:
<?phpecho file_get_contents[url];?>
Resulting in:
Warning: file_get_contents() [function.file-get-contents]: php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known
The thing is, the VPS is resolving domains just fine

I have 3 ips to be used, I have used 2 for the nameserver in registrar.
I have total of 3 ips, which means, I have to place my domains via dns template to the server. Actually, I have set all my domains to a single ip, leaving the 2 ip's which I used for the nameserver to be empty (doin nothin :p)
SO, can I use 3 ips, for the 3 sites, ip1 for site1, ip2 for site2, and ip3 for site3 ? Will this make any difference in the site load and time?
I am sure they have to b set up with dns templates which I can do Wanted to know what would be the end result of my query
I have several hundred parked domains and would like to get up a single page of content for each that I control. Very similar to how godaddy.com does it for parked domains on their servers - buvvi.com .
Any one know of any server or programming scripts out there that can do this sort of thing?
I am having some wacky stuff going on with my server. I run a Godaddy v-ded and according to them, the server is fine.
What i'm experiencing is, some of my domains are not resolving, some are. For the ones that are working that run via a database, every few hours, I need to restart mysql(or the server) to get them running again.
Linux OS: Kernel Version - 2.6.9-023stab044.4-smp Hardware Information - 3ghz xeon, 512mb, 20gig hd Software Version - fedora 7 Control Panel - WHM 11.11.0 cPanel 11.16.0-R18546
Since my local ISP hasn't updated yet, I'm still seeing the sites on the old server. I used a proxy (hidemyass.com) which seems to update all the time, and it said that it couldn't connect to the website (I usually use it to test a site's functionality before I can connect to the site)
What can I do to test where it's going wrong? The domains have been pointed at ns1.theplanet.com and ns2.theplanet.com already, and theplanet has created those nameserver entries for us already. I just don't want the domains to start resolving, only to find that something is broken....
I have a client that has multiple domains, is there a way of pointing multiple domains to one server? Right now, their site is on their old server, and I was wondering how they configured it? So if you type in www.mysite.com or www.mysite2.com, each show the respective domain. (i.e. www.mysite.com/aboutus.htm is the same as www.mysite2.com/aboutus.htm) I have a (DV) with (mt). I created a cname to point to www.mysite.com (where the actual NS are pointing to) is this correct?
I have 2 wordpress blogs, and I'd like a few different domains to be shared on each of them.
Using some exemples, suppose I have domains from domainA.com to domainE.com. domainA.com is my main domain and the others are addon domains.
Today Blog1 is using blog.domainA.com, and domainB.com and domainC.com use WebRedirect to blog.domainA.com. And Blog2 uses domainD.com with WebRedirect on domainE.com too.
To access a post like /2008/02/02/this-is-a-nice-post, it is available only at blog.domainA.com, and not by domains B and C. I'd like they 3 to be able to access all posts directly, without redirecting to domain A.
To do that, I suppose I'd need to do some config on cPanel. And also on wordpress, even if I replicate it over other domains it insists to redirect to its configured domain.
I was thinking on the possibility of using symbolic link (ln -s) on their folders to blog.domainA.com folder, but I don't have access to shell on SSH so I'd like to know if it would work before trying.
In a real exemple of what I want, these domains all share the same phpBB forum: forumpcs.com.br, extremepc.com.br, forumdohardware.com.br.
Do u know if symbolic link would work to share the same wordpress? And how to make wordpress stop redirecting to blog.domainA.com?
I currently have one server with multiple domains on it. I run apache with virtual hosts.
I want to setup email forwarding such that:
Email sent to <anyone>@aaaa.com ----forwards to----> <some email address> Email sent to <anyone>@bbbb.com ----forwards to----> <some email address> ... Email sent to <anyone>@xxxxx.com ----forwards to----> <some email address>
Any pointers? Im not even sure what to search for on the net.
