Nov 30, 2008i have a server for hosting wibsites, with 1000 mbp connection speed, but with 2000 gb limited bandwidth.
i need more bandwidth , so i have 2 options: 1000 gb cost 100$
or unlimited bandwidth with 10mbp connection speed.
is 10mbp enough for this server ( it contains about 200 website )?

Unlimited Space And Bandwidth For 4$
Oct 1, 2009while looking for a host I've found that there are many hosts that offer unlimited web space and unlimited bandwidth for very little money like 4$ per month and there are also expensive web hosts that offer limited but big webspace and high bandwidth for much more money. What am I missing here? If a big website like yahoo decides to buy that 4$ per month host and move there, what would happen? Would the bandwidth really be enough and not slow down? If it wouldn't carry yahoo then why do they say it's unlimited? I'm confused because I've heard about people spending thousands of dollars for big websites every month.

I bought hosting with unlimited bandwidth, space, domain, etc. A few days ago I install script to sell photos. So I upload huge of photos and maybe eat their bandwidth and space. And today my account is deleted without any warning! I tried to ask this but no answer yet.
Is the Unlimited space and bandwidth is totally lying??? But why even hostgator selling the unlimited features?

Aug 20, 2008There are many hosting service providers around the world. Many are advertising, Unlimited Bandwidth, Unlimited Disk storage .
I choose one of those company for one my hosting need. It is not much a big website but has some traffic. Also nothing to download or upload... all the content is text based. In one month hosting started to suck.. lots of downtime and database error from the hosting side.
End of the day, I was asking for a VPS solution. My God! they do not have any VPS or dedicated server solution at all.
Why the hosting companies just buildup their advertisement. And why should they offer what they cannot provide. And their strength I still see is.. they are still saying to me that they are hosting is Unlimited Bandwidth, Unlimited Disk storage.

1) How much bandwidth has anyone actually been able able to use with them (or any overseller) and how'd you do it?
2) How can you get what's advertised? Do VPS accounts let you use all your bandwidth? Could you list some hosts that will not find excuses to shut you down? I have no idea how much bandwidth is reasonable to expect with shared hosting

Limited Versus Unlimited Bandwidth
Dec 12, 2007I am having trouble working out which host to choose for a new project.
I usually opt for Webmania or Heart Internet - they are excellent providers but Webmania now applies a bandwidth cap that may be too low and Heart's cheapest package does not provide sub-domains. I can't be sure whether 12GB will be big enough for a site that will contain galleries of high-res images (I have no prior experience with caps and traffic predictions are impossible at this time) and to get sub-domains from Heart means a £90 per year package (too much).
Streamline is one of the few good-value providers that do not cap bandwidth, but I have concerns about the effect that this may have on server speed given that it is bound to attract the kind of sites that are really heavy on bandwidth. This point was mentioned in an article recently.
If I take the last option, will I be hampering the performance of my site?

We would provide links to the files so they could be downloaded - no online streaming is needed. Also no normal website stuff - just file storage space and ability to download by anyone who has the URL links to the files.
1and1.com has 250 GB storage with 2.5 TB/mo bandwidth usage for $10/mo. Their phone rep said this type of use of their web space is OK. I wouldn't even look any further except I've read a lot of bad reviews about them.

* Full Cabinet
* 2x20A 220v Power
* Bandwidth either 1Gbps full burstable or 1Gbps dedicated (with plans to move up to 2-3Gbps within a year)
* Available ASAP
The sites that it will be hosting are sales and informational for a consumer product that sporadically gets news or magazine coverage which massively spikes its traffic. These times are when a good chunk of the revenue comes in but we do not necessarily know when they are coming. Does anyone know if having a full burstable line will cover this sort of eventuality or should we grab the entire dedicated line just to ensure we have it waiting? We would be providing all of our own firewalls and equipment, we just need the bandwidth, preferably without having to deal with a router on our side.
Price isn't the biggest consideration; reliability, stability, security, and performance are.
As an additional question, we are looking at a Catalyst 4507R-E switch for the core of our network, with redundant supervisors (for the purposes of ensuring we have no single points of failure). Any one have experience with this switch that can say whether it's a good choice or not for that?

I was on RackForce and their basis VPS package dds200-L can host 100 domain names on Plesk and unlimited domain names on WHM/Cpanel.
On 1and1 it didn't say if Plesk support 100 or unlimited domain names. My question is, do we always have the liberty to host unlimited domain names on our PVS?

300 x 10MBs
400 x 5MBs
That totals 8750MBs or 8.75GBs... If he gets hundreds of visitors, it could end up being 1000's of GBBs or bandwidth.
I don't know what to look for to support so much bandwidth... Do you buy bandwidth? Are their special companies out their that host it for you?

Transferring Large Amounts Of Data From Server To Server
Jan 11, 2007Recently I changed server providers, so now I'm looking for a way to transfer all the data to my new server. I have a total of 420GBs of files in my secondary HDD that need to be transferred.
The old server is at a 10Mbps line, the new one is at a 100Mbps one. From old server, less than half the pipe is being actively used. So theoretically, I should be able to transfer it all in about a week.
I tried
1) SCP. That was waaay too unreliable. And I couldn't get it to restart from the point left on whenever the transfer stopped (like when the servers were restarted).
2) Transfer using a web script. Way too slow, got to about 35GBs, total would take like 2 months.
Is there any other, reliable way of transferring data from server to server?

Oct 23, 2009In reference to my previous post, i want to tranfer accross 7GB of data, approximatly 80,000 files i believe it is (due to a gallery script).
It's currently on another host (on a webhosting account) which uses their own control panel which has no options but to manage databases, the only way i can see to do this is via FTP but it'll take me days. I've tried using compressing and backup scripts, but the damn execution time on the hosts server is too low to allow the files to be zipped. Are there any ways? Can i login to my VPS via SSH and anyhow pull off the files from the other hosts server?

I've been battling keeping the site up for quite some time, and I am starting to wonder whether we shot too low on the server setup. I figure I would ask the pros here at WHT for some advice.

Server Crash While Repairing Large Database
Oct 12, 2007for months my server has been running fine, since about a week ago the server crashed and was up and down
the fault was found to be faulty ram which has been replaced.
now I have had every tom, dick & harry take a look at the server to get it stable again but im still having issues.
The server seems to run fine but crashes when I try and repair or backup my database.
the database is large like 30gig but the server used to do this fine before but it wont now, it get so far then hangs.
