To Test Web Server Bandwidth
I'm trying to test my colocated webserver's bandwidth. I found speed test links such as this one: [url]
If I just run this on from my colocated web server, would the result be credible?
Although I think these tests are designed for dsl/cable subscribers.

How Do I Test My VPS Bandwidth
How do I test to see if I am getting the bandwidth I am signed up for? Right now I have a vps with futurehosting.biz IP: 75.126.49.194. On their advertisements they say everyone will be on a 100mbit port. However, I have never gotten speeds above 10mbit UNLESS I am downloading from another machine in the same datacenter: dallas.futurehosting. biz/test100.zip* When I try downloading from a machine outside the same building such as: www .futurehosting.biz/test100.zip* (Their Chicago DC) I never, ever get speeds over 10 mbit outside the same DC. I opened up a ticket regarding this, and all they say over at future hosting is that Virtuozzo confirms it's a 100mbit link, and that other users in the node may be using the bandwidth at the same time. The only explanation I can think of is that it truly is a 100mbit port, but is capped to 10mbit once it goes outside the datacenter. If this is the case, they should clearly state this in their advertisement. Or is this a common practice with VPS hosts? * Links mangled because of the 5 post requirement....

Web Hosts Dedicated Server Bandwidth
Every web hosting company I've seen has a certain amount of monthly bandwidth for a dedicated server. For example, one hosting company offers a dedicated server with 10TB of bandwidth per month. Question is, why don't web hosting companies offer 2 monthly bandwidth options like International and Local? Local bandwidth costs alot less than International bandwidth. So for example, a web host based in the USA should have a Dedicated server with 10TB Local monthly bandwidth and 10TB International monthly bandwidth. Can't hosting companies detect where the dedicated server is being accessed from?

Web Hosting That Specializes In High Bandwidth
I have a dedicated server currently hosted over by Aplus.NET I have a 3000 GB Monthly Transfer limit and we have been going over this limit for the past few months. This has resulted in a large sum of overage fees. I am looking to go to another hosting company that is just as good as Aplus.NET, if not better... with a better traffic rate. A friend told me about Choopa.com and I wanted to know how good of a company they were. What are some other top reliable hosting companies with premium servers and that specialize in unmetered bandwidth?

2mhost.com - Web Stress Testing To Use Up Bandwidth Quota?
I was just curious as to whether anyone has ever came across a situation where your monthly bandwidth/transfer quota is being consumed at an exponential rate without any increase of traffic to the site? My current situation is this. I have an account 2mhost and a monthly bandwidth transfer quota of 100,000 MB. For the past few months it's been steadily growing. When I first transfered the site to this host their cheapest package quota wasnt sufficient and I ended up with a bandwidth overage error page on my site, so I had to upgrade. In doing so I've always ended the month just shy of 80% total quota. My problem is that it's only the 17th, and a few days ago i was at about 32%, now im at 51% with no increase of pageviews. Looking into awestats shows the alexandria2.2mhost.com using 30 gigs!! I questioned the tech support via live chat and they said it was wordpress accessing the images. So I downloaded the raw access logs and noticed that Every few seconds the server ip would make a request to a dozen or so images, each image being requested 3 times. here's a portion of the log: ....

Creating Web Hosting Accounts/asigning Bandwidth
The first thing i'm thinking of is cpanel but there's many others If you're runing a server with 5000gb traffic/bandwidth per month When you're creating hosting accounts, could you allow 5000gb in each new account you're creating? Like if you had unmetered, you'd put unmetered in every new account Considering no account would ever reach any way near their monthly allowance.

Where Do You Have Your Test Server
We are a small development team mostly coding in php/mysql as an unpaid hobby. Anyways yesterday our test server had hardware problems and to get a decent new one would be $300. Well this seems a lot to ask for someone that does get any compensation for it. So we are looking for some cheap way of providing a test server. We need at least a way that provides svn, apache w/ php and mysql. We tried to use the webserver, but the head dev didnt like the idea. Any suggestions? The three devs are in charge of wcreplays.com .

UK Web Hosting 500MB Space 1GB Bandwidth Existing .org.uk Domain
I'm the webmaster for a church website: stpetersbraunstone.org.uk and our domain & hosting renewal is coming up, so I'm looking to see if there's a better deal. We're with namehog.net (and have been for 2 years with no problems at all) on their Professional package. The renewal fees are 105GBP (web hosting) + 5.90GBP (domain name) + 17.5pc VAT to cover the next 2 years, which comes to 130.31GBP. The site is powered by WordPress, so PHP and MySQL are needed. And we upload lots of photos, so need at least 250MB webspace I'd have thought. So far, our highest monthly bandwidth usage has been under 800Mb, and our visitor numbers are increasing and our highest monthly figure so far was 401. Any recommendations gratefully received. There seems to be many different companies out there who offer what I want, so I'm after some personal recommendations please. I've already used this site to discount streamline.net due to bad reviews. I'm looking at fuzioned.com and redfoxhosting.co.uk - any thoughts? I've also come across no-wires.co.uk - has anyone had any good or bad experiences with them? And yes, I have submitted my details to the "request quote" thing.

Not Passing Dnsstuff.com Test - Smtp Server And DNS
I have a question getting the setup of my DNS and email server working correctly. In my mailserver, lets say I set the SMTP server to mail.BLUE.com. Through my DNS, I set an MX record for mail.BLUE.com and I set an A record for mail.BLUE.com to 1.1.1.1. I create different domains on my mail server and give each an IP address. BLUE.com is 1.1.1.1. RED.com is 2.2.2.2. GREEN.com is 3.3.3.3. Each domain is setup in my DNS as a forward lookup zone. Each domain has an MX record (mail.domain_name.com) and a A record (pointing mail.domain_name.com to it's IP address). There are other records of course... but they're not important for my question. When I want to check or send mail from BLUE.com I use mail.BLUE.com. When I want to check or send mail from RED.com I use mail.RED.com. I do this for all my email accounts. But, when I check dnsstuff.com on any domain besides BLUE.com, it tells me the following: **************************** mail.RED.com claims to be host mail.BLUE.com [but that host is at 1.1.1.1 (may be cached), not 2.2.2.2]. **************************** Now... this can send and receive mail just fine... but I think this may cause issues when it comes to SPAM settings (some servers may consider our mail SPAM because we're "pretending" to be a different mail server). So... here's my question... what's the best way to set everything up to run multiple sites and email accounts on one server? How can I use 1 SMTP mail server (BLUE.com) and get my other domains to pass the dnsstuff.com test?

Improve Performance- Web Server, SSH Server, And Mail Server

What I've got running: Apache2, PHP5, MySQL5, Dovecot, Postfix One of the sites is a growing forum with a MASSIVE photo album. This is the site where I notice the most slowness. Bandwidth Someone Using My Server?
I have a dedicated for my site using Cpanel/WHM. My bandwidth limit is 1500GB and I usually have about 1000GB/month. But 3 weeks ago my hosting provider notified me that I am close to my bandwidth limit. I have checked both Cpanel and WHM and they showed half of that number. The company was telling me I had 1500GB and Cpanel/WHM that I have 800GB. They told me that the data center was counting the right number and gave me a link to check my real bandwidth. My first thought that they might try to fool me. After their prompt I have checked through ssh that my site sends about 3-9MB. They told me that they can not find from where my extra traffic is coming from. My users are about the same and my statistics show the normal stats like every other month. I was wondering from where all this traffic is coming from? Is it from hotlinking? Is it from some flash games I have? They ensured me that all these are included in my stats. Could it be my RSS? My other thought is that might my server is hacked and used for bad causes. My hosting providers are searching it right now. The last 2 days I get a "High 5 minute load average alert" from my WHM. It usually was from 1 up to 4 but the last days it goes from 6 to 50! That made me believe even stronger that someone is using my server.. I do not have the experience to deal with it,

Unitl I changed to a dedicated box I got about ~180GB in AwStats but Cpanel only reported ~130GB. So now I have whm setup and host my site on one cpanel account. Can I trust the bandwidth reported in that cpanel account or is there a definitive number I can get via other means? I just want to be sure I have an exact figure so I know where I'm at with regards to bandwidth. At the moment I am wondering whether it may be underreported as well?

Server Bandwidth Tweeks
Im currently runing many Linux servers with your basic cpanel/whm server config Im looking for a way to limit the speed/band per user account, now i know in whm u can limit there monthly usage however thats not what im looking for. Our small hosting company has taken off this last couple months and all our servers are located in our facilities were not using any external DC. Because of our huge increase in clients we recently upgraded to a T3 line. What we would like to do is limit each account to a specific speed limit cap if possible. So for example account A would be limited to 5MB MAX , so if account A was running a illegal file hosting service that we have not caught yet our other clients would not be slowed down in the meantime. So basically we would like to evenly distribute our band to each of our users. If this isnt possible is there a way to limit download speeds?

I'm a bit dumbfounded myself as i'v never even thought about a server on this much sustained bandwidth before today.

Remote Logging, To See Which Server Is Using Most Bandwidth
Does anyone have an app they use to track the bandwidth/usage for each connected computer/server? we have multiple servers hooked up to one internet connection, all running miscrosoft windows software. Ideally i would like ONE of the servers running microsoft 2003 to log all others network usage. All the servers do different things, so it would be great to check which are under most demand etc. The other thing is, naturally i dont have screens for them all, only one. So this is the main reason for remote logging. Would be hassle to have to Remote desktop into each one to check how there doing every hour etc.

How can I check which user is using cpdavd (connect from their PC to the home folder) I suspect someone is connecting their PC to my server and uses very high bandwidth! The datacenter says the attack is still going on when they plug in the server. Question #2. How can I check what is sending outgoing traffic on the server right now?

Expected Traffic: Quite High (1 Million Visitors/mo) So can anyone suggest me the most suitable Server Config, Bandwidth (I'd prefer dedicated-unmetered b.w) and Host for this? Also can anyone provide me info on the amount of video conversions and traffic a single server (with your recommended config) can handle?

Is The Bandwidth The Reason Server Prices Are High Or
Like if you try to make your own server, it would cost a few thousand right? Or bought one from IBM or something. If you rent a server, it could cost you like double that I notice or even more in a period of a year. I was looking at the prices of Xeon 5420 and they are like only 400 or something. Motherboard, ram, hdd's shouldn't amount to too much right? And companies are charging like 50 bucks a month for a 2 gigs of ram. Or am I actually looking at this wrong and actually am looking at desktop components? So is bandwidth the cost for these prices? In the long run aren't people being ripped off?

Server Setup For MySQL + High Bandwidth
if I could get some input on this. Currently I'm running an Opteron 246, 2GB RAM with 2TB bandwidth/mo. I run a single site which is currently 99% HTML, along with an invision forum which is fairly popular. I get about 300-400k pageviews per day. Right now the server is able to handle this stuff without much of a problem, and the average CPU load is between .5 and 3 (after a TON of tweaking!) - the only exception is when the forum db is being backed up/optimized, which isn't a huge problem since it happens during the off hours. The problem is that I'm running out of bandwidth quickly, and need to come up with some kind of solution soon. My current provider offers bandwidth at $1/GB, which to me seems crazy compared to other providers, so that's not really an option. I was thinking about switching to a more affordable provider and upgrading hardware, but I'm not sure what the best approach would be. I'm in the process of moving my HTML content over to a PHP-powered CMS, so I need to make sure whatever I do can handle that... What might be a decent setup for a site like mine which consumes a lot of bandwidth and will probably need more CPU power in the near future for PHP/MySQL stuff?

More Important For Shoutcast Server? Bandwidth Or Port Speed?
I wonder whatLs more important on a shoutcast server, to get more bandwidth per month as possible, or a faster port connection? I have test a 2 hours music stream at 128k bit rate and was only 5MB per listener ! This is not to host 24/7 radios. Its a project to host DJs /Live Bands at a maximum of 128k, with no more than 2 hours events. Also each event between 50-80 listeners, and not at same days or hours. About the port connection, what this means? : Port: 10/100MBPS SWITCHED VLAN Is it shared and from 10 to 100mbps? I am trying to find the best deal with dedi servers. Have at this moment a unlimited bandwidth /100Mbps shared, but it seems the CPU is too low (AMD Sempron 3100), as I canLt seem to create more than 40 shoutcast accounts (and no client is streaming, just ON), and the server load goes up to 4.5 !! So, I am looking on the market , as I saw better deals with better processors (Pentium4, Core 2 Duo), and much cheaper (below $100), but they only offer 2000/3000GB bandwidth. Whats do you think?

The bandwidth utilization graph for my rack is recording an abnormal surge from (6mbps --> 90mbps) for the few minutes. My MRTG is showing 2 of the Plesk servers giving the problem but the NOC guys said it the Cpanel that causing the problem. I tried logging in to both servers but could not find what's the cause for this.
