If you check out [url], you can see that its not running super fast. The load is nothing, iostat, vmstat, etc don't show anything out of the ordinary. Is there anything else I can do to see what might be causing it? Am I just in need of some good mysql optimization?

I'm currently on a VPS 2.0 Pro package from WebFusion. Ubuntu.
I've been with them for years, first on shared, now VPS. I generally run Invision discussion forums on them, as well as a few static websites.
Ok for disk space, memory etc. but recently it has been sooooooo slow, lag is getting unacceptable. It is intermittently ok, then slow as treacle. My customers are starting to complain.
I've spoken to tech support, and all they say is it's fine, but will look into it and then contact data centre.
To be honest, over the last few years I've seen a decline in tech support and customer service, but wondering what to do now. I pay annually and my budget is about £400 pa.
Renewal is due about March, but thinking about leaving early. Just getting too much hassle.
I just wonder who to go with? Do the smaller companies offer the same performance? Do they all have the same connnections to the backbone?
Or maybe it's a weird apache thing?

I have a website that I recently moved to a dedicated server. Before hand I had the website hosted with 2 other hosting companies (not dedicated).
I decided to go to a dedicated server because the website ran extremely slow or even went down due to traffic.
With the dedicated server I am having the same problem with the same amount of visitors online. This usually occurs with aprox 250 members online.
I know nothing about servers and have no idea how to cure this problem or if possibly it could be a setting in the server. However this is killing my website because new people are unable to register because of site coming down from traffic.

I am migrating my sites from a Xen based Centos 5.3 + cPanel/WHM instante to another Xen based cPanel/WHM solution with Centos 5.3 64-bit. I am having issues with easyApache now after it was successfully ran for the first time.
It does not time out however even the profile selection screen takes well over 10 minutes to get to once easyApache is initiated. Once the profile selection is made it is still slow moving to the customization screen.
The server is neither overloaded, nor out of memory. I have actually executed /scripts/checkperlscripts in hopes that it would identify something. I am planning to remove /home/cpeasyapache folder however I am not confident whether this is the right approach or not.

My sites have been receiving a little more traffic these days (but not too much) and it seems my vps is slowing and at times vbulletin/wordpress page doesn't loads or loads a bit sluggishly (refreshing the page gets rids of not loading issue but not sluggishness).
So I logged into Virtozzo and saw the following QOS alerts:

I have previously seen tcpsndbuf going into yellow and even black zone (but only once in a blue moon) however never saw kemsize going into black zone.
These are the limits my host has set:

My Cpanel VPS has around 384MB of dedicated ram and around 896Mb of burst Ram. At any given time, there is at least 150Mb of free dedicated RAM. So based on this, are these values correct or they need to be changed or do I need to look for something else which might be causing this problem?
I don't run Spamassassin

I've got 25 domains on a Virtuozzo/Plesk8.6/CentOS5 VPS. Each domain has one up-to-date install of WordPress, most have very little traffic (average 200mb per month), maybe 2 domains get 5-7gb traffic per month.
I monitor port 80 connections and rarely see more than 10 at a time.
That should in my opinion be no problem at all for a VPS with 768mb guaranteed ram and 2.4ghz cpu. I've got 30gb hard drive spare too.
But.... about 8 or 10 times a day it grinds to a complete halt: server load at 500-1000%, sites timing out, plesk takes 3mins to load, often I can't even connect with SSH, and the plesk web server, apache
INSERT INTO module_watchdog_sys_stat (time, type, value, service_id) VALUES(FROM_UNIXTIME(1226404705), 'MAINMEM_USAGE', 17472, 11);
80 seconds sounds like a huge amount of time for a MySQL insert to me! Does anyone know if this is likely to be the cause of my trouble? Some problem with Plesk and the database? Or could it be something else?

Most people probably run Linux on their media servers, but since I don't know much about Linux and the media server we have is unmanaged, I was wondering how you guys feel about running Windows Server 2003 Std on a media server instead of Linux. We'll only be using the server to host Flash video files (.flv) and we'll be serving those vids on websites hosted on other servers, resulting in approx. 50,000-100,000 media views per day (filesizes range from approx. 5MB to 10MB). We don't want to run Windows Media Services, just a Web server (IIS6) and have the Flash video players on the external websites take care of the streaming/downloading part.

I dont know much about what could be cuasing this so i come to you for advice, i am currently at wired tree on their VPS384 package with 348MB of ram and my site is really slow to load [url]sometimes it is so embaressing to show people i just dont bother, i am sure this is deferring visitors from my content how can i speed this up?
I can add more ram but it will push the price and if the price goes too high i might aswell move to a Hybrid with wiredtree.

problem with my server running CentOS 5.3.
I noticed that there are huge pings to my server from time to time, example:
------------------
64 bytes from HOSTNAME (server-IP): icmp_seq=0 ttl=60 time=2.93 ms
64 bytes from HOSTNAME (server-IP): icmp_seq=1 ttl=60 time=2.70 ms
64 bytes from HOSTNAME (server-IP): icmp_seq=2 ttl=60 time=1901 ms
64 bytes from HOSTNAME (server-IP): icmp_seq=3 ttl=60 time=899 ms
64 bytes from HOSTNAME (server-IP): icmp_seq=5 ttl=60 time=2.69 ms
64 bytes from HOSTNAME (server-IP): icmp_seq=6 ttl=60 time=2.62 ms
64 bytes from HOSTNAME (server-IP): icmp_seq=4 ttl=60 time=2132 ms
64 bytes from HOSTNAME (server-IP): icmp_seq=8 ttl=60 time=2.57 ms
64 bytes from HOSTNAME (server-IP): icmp_seq=7 ttl=60 time=1190 ms
64 bytes from HOSTNAME (server-IP): icmp_seq=10 ttl=60 time=2.65 ms
64 bytes from HOSTNAME (server-IP): icmp_seq=9 ttl=60 time=1048 ms
64 bytes from HOSTNAME (server-IP): icmp_seq=12 ttl=60 time=2.74 ms
64 bytes from HOSTNAME (server-IP): icmp_seq=11 ttl=60 time=1205 ms
------------------
First I thought that it is network related, but most strange for me was that I did not have any packets lose.
Then I tried to ping from my server to other hosts - situation was the same - some ping were good and some were huge (700ms, 800ms, even 2000ms)
I checked:
cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_conntrack_max
and it was 65536
Then I checked:
cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_conntrack_count
and it was ~1600 so normal.
dmesg was showing such errors:
conntrack_ftp: partial 227 3331059707+13
Then I checked ifconfig, here is the output:
------------------
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:24:21:57:2B:6F
inet addr:MAIN=IP Bcast:BCAST=IP Mask:255.255.255.192

RX bytes:2756835074 (2.5 GiB) TX bytes:79640621 (75.9 MiB)
Interrupt:82 Base address:0xe000
------------------
Strange for me was:
RX packets [...] dropped:2421127049
TX packets [...] dropped:46
I did not have such dropped information on all my other servers. Dropped counter for RX was constatnly increasing.
So I decided to restart all services on the server. After restarting network and ipaliases - problem disappeared. RX dropped counter is still rising, but I do not have any slowdowns on the server and pings are normal.
My question is - does anyone could have any idea what can casue my problem and how can I prevent this in the future?

My server gets 300 - 600 concurrent connections to http port 80, has a CPU load of 1 - 2%, has practically all RAM of 1 GB used, is running apache 2 and centos 5.
It tends to get slow and when I ban IPs that use many connections to my server (raping it), it becomes fast again. But soon after that new ******* users come which I again ban and the process repeats itself
I'm starting to think that maybe I just don't have enough RAM to handle them because it seems at least some of those users are legit. I don't however have even that much content that needs to be cached so I'm not sure what good RAM would do but perhaps apache just needs more.

How can I prove to my web hosting company that the server is extremely slow and overloaded?
If I call support, they are saying that it is fine for them. But I've checked with different internet connections and it's slow.
I want to be moved to another server or get a partial refund or something. At this point my website is unusable during peak business hours.... and I get barley any traffic.

My server (Xeon 3.0Ghz) went down for no reason yesterday and ever since it was rebooted (and I've rebooted a couple of times since then), pages load extremely slowly or just timeout. Server load is constantly hovering around 1 and top stats indicate that the server's resources are not under heavy load, which is contrary to the usual pattern during peak times.
I've checked netstat and I notice a lot of SYN_RECV. Could this be a DoS attack? If so, what steps do I take to stop it?

I currently have one dedicated server and four VPSs all using Plesk and all having their own name servers controlled by Plesk. What I'd like to do is consolidate everything so all my sites use one set of name servers.
I'm a PHP developer (and will be developing my own front end), and only have limited knowledge of administrating a server, so first of all if anyone has done this before and made mistakes in the process, please could you share them with me so I can avoid making them?
Secondly, I would like to use a MySQL database for storing the DNS info - I've found a tutorial at [url]which I'd like to use - could someone who knows what they're talking about have a skim through this and reassure me that everything there is correct and up to date (the article was written in early 2006 - just checking nothing in the world of DNS has changed since)?
I'm using Fedora.

I've a production server running web, smtp, ftp, cpanel...
Now I need to run different solutions on the same server (like PABX, games), of course I can't put all on the same place (to better control security, resource usage etc..)
Is it possible to install xen without affecting my production environment? It would be a good choice doing that?

I really like microsoft, and don't want to change and adapt to something else.
give me advice
Or, should I run Linux
I would run Linux on it, but I don't know how.
And they have different version of Linux. Example Redhat, Ubuntu etc.
Which one should I go for?
Also, what do I do if I have a netgear ethernet card? Is that Linux? Is it compaitable with Redhat?
And last question, what do I use for security?
I'm a hacker, yeah.. I know what all people can do to websites. How do I stop them?
DoSing, Cross Scripting, XML Attacks, MySql Injection.. Etc.
If a linux fan can respond, that would be nice.

why not just setup my own server. I have the connection and hardware necessary. So I am wondering why do people pay for web hosting? Why not just run your own website from your own server?

I'm based in the UK and recently I purchased a midphase ns01 dedicated server.
All was going well until I decided to test out downloading a file from the server. The transfer rate on the download was and still continues to be terrible. (I did a traceroute and ping on the server as shown below.)
My ISP is AOL with a connection speed of 100 mbps.
Heres the traceroute and ping of my midphase server...

The subject line pretty much sums up my major problem. My site has been intermittently slow (somtimes slow, sometimes not) for... like since I can remember. So my site isn't that big
Sometimes for me it takes forever to load a vbulletin page, or even the main page of the site. I thought I had found the problem (a mysql-intensive script), removed it, improved things quite a bit, but there is still a long way to go!
Many site users report the same exact things.
"The site is sloowww" ...
"It wasn't slow yesterday but it is today" ...
"Today it's really fast, but last week I was having problems pulling up pages".
Its fustrating becase this is a VPS, and although I know how to use Cpanel, WHM is really big and I am not sure what I could do to speed up my website or to even begin to locate any potential problems.
My site is basically Joomla CMS, vBulletin BBS and 4images image gallery. The later two use a common user database. My current mysql usage is 327.55MB in total. Apache 1.3.34, PHP 4.4.1 and MySQL 4.1.19-standard. Powered by WHM/Cpanel & Virtuozzo.
What should I do? Where can I start? Where can I look?

I have a dedicated server that I am renting that appears to randomly respond very slowly for some reason (pings are between 90-4000ms with about 75% packet loss).
This has been happening lately (about once a week for the past 4 weeks) and I thought I had originally found the cause of the problem but it appears I haven't.
Originally, when this problem was happening we were getting an abnormally high about of traffic but a reboot always fixed the issue. I've checked every where I can think of but I cannot find anything out of the ordinary.
ight now we're averaging less than 2Mbps in traffic, the CPU load is less than 0.75, the memory usage is at 55% with no swap being used, Apache connections are normal, no active SSH, FTP, or mail connections, I've restarted all services which had no impact, I've checked the access and error logs but can't see anything out of the ordinary.
I have a ticket open with the data center but I'm trying to figure this out on my own to fix whatever is causing this so I can move my data over to a new server we just got setup over the weekend in a local data center.

I rented a server from VD a month ago and hosted some of my websites. But I'm constantly noticing that my websites are loading very slow. How can I check if other users are experiencing the same problem, or if the problem lies with my Internet connection?
