I was told that I have bursted the RAM on my VPS, over 70,000 time since the parent server was rebooted 100 days ago. How do I determine what site is causing this (including mine, which isn't DB driven (yet))?
I am currently planning to move from my current provider to Hetzner.de, and wanted to synchronize this in a way that would avoid too much overlay, basically don't want to double pay for a whole month.
I asked hetzner.de support how long it takes to setup a root server, and their answer was "up to 3 weeks", and asking for the average did not help.
how long it usually takes to setup a server there? Isn't 3 weeks too long?
Due to continuing problems with my current provider, I have signed up for a managed DirectAdmin VPS with Virpus.
I'll post reviews as time passes but I just wanted to post that I ordered at 3:55pm and I was setup just after 5pm. That is awesome setup time. I've now requested initial hardening and optimization, since I have a managed package. I don't expect it to be as fast (it is Sunday after all), but the setup time was awesome. I don't even know how they got a DA licence that fast, I thought that was a real bottleneck sometimes.

When I called customer support line, the guy "not sure when the account will be setup "
I just ordered a vps from them. its been exactly 22 hours since i paid for the vps server. How long does it take them 2 generally set up accounts? Any current web wide hosting vps customers on this forum?
I ordered a server few days ago and it still has not been setup i had verify my information with them and they still have not setup my server I tried talking to them but nothing... Should I wait some more or cancel and move to Softlayer?

I am wondering what you think the average amount of time it should take to setup a firewall under the following circumstances.
The firewall in question is a Cisco ASA 5505
Say you have the firewall now but it is unstable so you an RMA to replace it, all the config rules are already known and can be seen in the old firewall when the new one arrives. There are only about 25 ACL rules and 6 object-groups that the ACLs use. There is NAT running with ~23 IPs that are statically routed to internal IPs and it has a VPN configured.
How long do you think it should take to configure the new firewall to act like the old one and replace the old one?
Hotmail doesn't work. The email filtering technologies are still broken 18 months after the original problems were found with their implementation. And now it looks like they've stopped supporting it.
Seriously, does anyone know if the email filtering team at Microsoft has just given up on responding to requests and complaints? We've just deployed two new servers and both are blocked for delivering email to clients Hotmail/MSN/Live.com accounts.
The following steps have been taken:
1. Our DNS has been tested and checked using DNSstuff.com services.
2. Our server IP addresses checked to ensure they do not appear in any blacklists.
3. rDNS correctly setup for hostnames and mailserver names.
4. All our email is signed using DomainKeys.
5. All our domain names have published SPF records.
6. All our domain names have valid abuse@ and postmaster@ email addresses.
7. We have emailed senderid@microsoft.com notifying them as requested on postmaster.msn.com of our published SPF records.
8. We have even completed the senderid support form providing further notification here: [url]
9. I have contacted the technical support team using the contact form on [url] witn absolutely no success.
Two weeks later I've made no progress whatsoever beyond receiving a request to complete a survey rating the non-existent support I have received. (No human has responded to any of my messages) And all our messages to Hotmail are still disappearing into the email filtering black-hole.
At this point I'm starting to wonder if Hotmail is even usable as an email service anymore. I doubt many people will be bothering to jump through all the hoops I am to resolve this issue. I dread to think how much legitimate email is getting caught up in the Microsoft email filtering black-hole - never providing any notification or information to senders their messages were not delivered.
Meanwhile, our email arrives perfectly in Yahoo/Gmail who both pass our SPF records and DomainKeys signatures. Oh, and we're not engaging in any email marketing practises (i.e. spam).
I guess you can fugure my account expired with servage. but to tell you the truth, I am so P OFF at them
I opened a ticket on my last day and asked if I can move it from 14 months (that I started with) to a 6 months renewal because I could'nt afford to pay the £74 they wanted, and apologised for this. They said I'd have to pay the 74 pounds first and then change my billing to 3 or 6 months.....
I replied saying can I then pay a sum now and a some next week. as I don't have that with me at the moment but wednesday 9th April I wil be able to remew it all
They replied with:
"Hello Ahmed there is 14 days grace period for customers before account gets suspended."
So I thanked them very much, because like that, instead of paying in installments, I can just pay them the whole amount before the grace period was over, otherwise I would've backed up my data and moved it another server, or on my computer till I remew the whole amount....
5 days later (today), I log on to my account, and it has been suspended as I hav'nt paid for 5 days...thats 9 days before the "grace period"
and now all my domains have this dirty suspended page that they have, and I bet I lost half my members and customers like this, as when I see this page on any domain I enter I never go back to it!
I say to my self its my falt, I should've paid when I had to.....but money was tight, and I told them....and they gave me the 14 days, I did'nt ask for anything, but I thought backing up all my sites and my webdriver that I have with them would take me ages, plus the pages have alot of content that would be a hassle, if I have a "14 days grace period".
This is the first time servage have lied to my face, and not by answering a question with yes or no, by saying a feature they have that does'nt exist and but wednesday I bet all my customers and members would've found somewhere else to hang out, as I only contacted them through the mail server on the site and my forum, now I can't even right "we will be back soon....don't go away",
I thought I warn you guys about this grace, if you have an account with them make sure your ready to renew before it expires, and don't believe most of the stuff that they say.
OMG, I used to promote for these people, and tried hard to always say good stuff about them, you see my sig, it was a promotion for them with a coupon code (that I dredfully apologies about to the administration for not reading the rules properly), and I get in return a lie straight in my face with no warning and no way of accessing my database what so ever. Just be warned Guys, don't believe everything they say to you and backup all the time because you never know why they suspend your account.....even if your on thew right track
i tried razor servers and I think they just took my cash its been 3 days and no contact what so ever so I have filed a paypal claim, but basically this was my package.
It also included web monitoring and CPANE/WHML for $99 bux a month, so I tried it but havent heard anything from them.
So im looking for something like that, if the host could maybe work with me on the first month since it looks like I got screwed outta $99 I would sign u p tonight even if you just pro-rate the first month..
I'm thinking about ordering a VPS from RazorServers, but haven't been able to get ahold of anyone there to answer a few simple sales questions for almost 24 hours - tried calling, the sales extension just rings and rings, their AIM and MSN contacts listed on their website aren't logged in, submitted a ticket yesterday afternoon with no response. None of this gives me much confidence that if I have problems after setup that I'll be able to get ahold of anyone.
Anybody know if this is normal for RazorServers? If so, any recommendations of other good providers of Xen VPSs in the northeast (Philadelphia, New York, Boston, etc.)?
I'm going to locate some of my servers in Philadelphia area. And I need a reliable web hosting company that provides collocation solution. I'm thinking of RazorServers.com for this purpose. This company has many possitive feedbacks and their prices aren't very high. Their datacenter is in Philadelphia and has N+1 redundancy. What can you tell me about this company?
One might say that this is expensive compared to the various budget offers out there. And it probably is, however you get more in return as well. More about that later.
The reason of going with them was stability. They used Level3 bandwidth in Phily which is a great location for both US and European traffic. Later on they added GBLX as well. Their servers are on two different power grids so even if power goes down there is a backup grid. And I can honestly say that in the year I have been with them there was not more than maybe a few seconds downtime. And yes, I monitor uptime closely using hyperspin.
What makes razorserver worth a try? - Very stable - Fast bandwidth to both US and EU - Friendly & personal support - Free KVMoIP.
My server initially had Debian Etch installed. Somehow there seemed to be some hardware issues with Etch and I had to ask them quite a few times to see what kernel-panic error was on the screen. In the end we decided to migrate to CentOS instead. For the migration Matt from RS setup a second CentOS server and gave me access to it 48 hours before the old Etch one would be canceled. This gave me time to do an easy migration without downtime. From that moment I did not have any hardware issues and ended up with a system uptime of almost 280 days.
Last month I moved away to another hoster. Reason was like always: budget. I got a great offer for a X3230 that i could not refuse. So I had to move away unfortunately. When I gave RS notice of cancellation they even offered to lower my monthly price. Which was very nice and a sign of a great customer-host relation. Unfortunately I could not stay.
Network: 9/10 - Stable and fast Power: 10/10 - Not one second downtime Support: 8/10 - Reasonably fast (few hours max) with a personal touch
Give them a try if you are sick of the Burstnet (or the like) monthly downtimes. Thats what I did and I have been more than happy I noticed they have started offering cheap ($79!) Core2Duos now as well - with free Cpanel! Even 100Mbit shared for less than $100. Too good to not take
I have been VPS with Razorservers.com for 1 month now and would like to provide my independent review of their service.
Services
VPS 4 IP Address cPanel/WHM Full Root Access
32$
Review: I am very pleased with the service at Razorservers.Their services are so far the best. I have used other services but now I'm wondering if you continue like this I will be their loyal customer as long as we provided services.
I recommend every user razorservers. First of all, let him try and give young guys a chance.
No one is not the best but to this moment I am satisfied with the m services.
I couldn't reach anyone from razorservers for 2 weeks. I have 2 open tickets with no answer from staff for 2 weeks. I tried directly contact to Matt one week ago, but no answer too.
I have been with razorservers for 1 month now and I have a vps. The vps is a 512mb 768mb burst ram 20gb disk and 500gb bandwidth. I am very happy with them. There support is fast and is very helpful. There network and node is also very fast. I have had no downtime at all. The domain hosted with them is scpicblog.com
I can't get access to a certain site. I always get the page with:
network time out - server at *** takes to long to respons. More people have noticed this and apparently it only happens to people with certain specific providers. And not all the time. Some times they DO get access eventy to they belong to the same ISP. So I guess an ISP isn't blocking access to it otherwise it would be permenantly/The site administrator insists that certain ISP's are blocking his site. He's hosting it on his own server. The domain belongs is registered at namecheap.com.
If an ISP is blocking this site (if that's possible?), that would lead to that 'network timeout' page wouldn't it?
What is the most likely reason for getting a timeout page anyway?
I have a dedicated server specs: AMD 3500+ 64 Bit CPU, 1 GB Ram, 160 GB Sata Drive. For 1 month, CPU load average reaches 40-50 value. This happens about 5-6 times in a day. When I stop httpd service for 30 seconds everything goes normal. I think this is not a DoS attack because it comes systematic, I dont believe no one makes this regularly except bots.
Maybe its a system service or a cronjob but it stops when I turn off httpd service? How can I be sure about what's making this regularly load?
I also did set up a script which mail me when load average of system goes crazy and restart httpd service. But instant restart is not working to stop load increase.
The server is going down from time to time, every 12 days or so the site hosted there is no longer accesible, everything starts with the site slowing don and down and then is not longer reachable, what we do is to request a power cycle, and with this we start all over again till next power cycle, so on so on, of course, here are my server details and more info on this:
- MySQL - 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.10 - Apache - 2.2.14-5ubuntu8.4 - PHP - 5.3.2-1ubuntu4.9 - operating system: Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS
After some time emailing the support guys to barely check about what's going on, we received an email with a few things:
1.- found a few errors that likely would cause issues with Apache. The first error is: [Mon Feb 04 05:03:10 2013] [error] mod_fcgid: fcgid process manager died, restarting the server and the next error is: [Mon Feb 04 14:32:34 2013] [error] server reached MaxClients setting, consider raising the MaxClients setting ...
Both these errors seem to indicate that you have a process that is running out of control on your server. We were unable to determine what script on your site is running caused your connections to be maxed out however it does appear that before these errors were generated there was a WordPress plugin referenced in your access logs...
2.- Additionally during our review we did find that your error log for mercadodedinerousa.com is 45 GB's which is excessively large and can cause problems when Apache is trying to write a such a large file.
3.- The majority of the errors being logged are: [Wed Feb 06 12:12:31 2013] [error] [client 200.76.90.5] Options FollowSymLinks or SymLinksIfOwnerMatch is off which implies that RewriteRule directive is forbidden: /var/www/vhosts/mercadodedinerousa.com/httpdocs/index.pl, referer: [URL]
