Disabling SSH Root Access But Enabling SSH Keys How To Do That
in order to secure my server against instrusion, i disabled ssh root login and created a user for myself. however in order to access the user i need to enable SSH Password authentication I dont enable password authentication all the time and i keep it disabled unless i need to do something via ssh. Now my question will be, is there a way to keep the user i created and keep the root login disabled and password authentication disabled but use ssh keys for the user i created? I was informed that if i opt to login to ssh via the user i created, the only way to do that is to enable password authentication as it cannot work with ssh keys. is this true? I really hope someone can help me how to use the user i created together with ssh keys so i dont have to enable password authentication when loggin to ssh

Change Ssh Certificates From 1024 To 2048 On IIS6 For Godaddy
I use an SSL certificate on IIS6 for Outlook web access. I have to renew in the next few days. Now I find that Godaddy have changed the minimum bit length from 1024 to 2048, but the Microsoft Wizard doesn't give me the chance to change the bit length when I try to generate the CSR file. If I remove the certificate and generate a new certifcate CSR will I be OK? (I can stand a little downtime - it's a small organisation). Do I have to get all the text the same as when I first requested the SSL certificate? Or just the URL bit?

I've changed the shh port on my server and now I can't log in. I changed the port to 4247 in the /etc/ssh/sshd_conf file. I've tried using port 22 incase I messed it up but that doesn't work either. Obviously I can't get back in to check it or change it. Using WHM/cPanel.

Cannot Ping Ssh To Other Server
I have 2 CPanel servers. I wanted to transfer multiple accounts via WHM but it gives me error that I cannot SSH into the other server. I am using putty to get SSH access to my server. What I need to do is create a backup of a directory on my server and then get that file on my computer somehow. I Can't Login To My Server By SsH
i have changed my servers ssH login port for more security.. After i changed port could'nt login to my server with ssH and i did ask to dedicated company to login my server and they able to login through the specified port by SSH.. But i can't still connect.. This is happened before on my old server.. It is very strange sometimes i can login sometimes can't login but i could'nt login on my new server yet.. I have changed PuTTY i did try SSH Explorer as well and i did try my laptop to login .. Still same can't login. Cannot SSH Into The Server Since Sshd Keeps Failing
/dev/sda1 is mounted to / on my dedicated server, however, it is 100% full and cPanel is having problems with it. Is there a way I can clean out some files? Setting Up An SSH Gateway Server For Techs
I've been battling with this issue for days now, and I'm sure the solution is simple, so hopefully someone can guide me. Basically this is my server setup: 1) Tech Server 2) Server 1 3) Server 2 The tech server hosts the main company website, billing, etc. It is also used as the SSH gateway to get into the other servers. Server 1 and 2 host end user websites. The tech server has an "id_dsa" key on it for the root user. Server 1 and Server 2 have the public key in authorized_keys I am able to access Server 1 and Server 2 from the tech server when logged in as "root". However - when signed in as a standard user (i.e. "nick") I am unable to use the id_dsa key to login to the remote servers. I've tried setting the HostKey variable in the sshd_config file but that wasn't it. I also tried adding the "-i" command to my ssh command. The only solution I found was to put the id_dsa file under each standard user account (i.e. copying it to /home/nick/.ssh) - however - that's not very secure. In a nutshell - how do I get standard SSH users to be able to use the root id_dsa key without being able to view it

Secure Employees SSH Access To Server
I'm thinking about creating a limited platform for my employees to access my hosting servers I wish they can create certain types of directories for users, set permissions on some directories, list users accounts, etc. but although I don't think they would want to abuse this kind of access, I not only like the Trust-No-One premisse, but I also find it not very unlikely that the computer they're using get compromised or something like that so I'd like to get technical ideas on how to develop this system and to know if anyone is interested and would like to contribute to the code what I've considered so far is that I should either create a special user for that which would be on all users group, or should give it "root" access... the latter seems more reasonable for me considering the implementation and compatibility between systems and control panels but with "root" access I mean "running MY INTERFACE to the employee as root"... this interface would have limited options like "create directory for user X", "list content of user X", etc. (taking a lot of care on input validation)... and would enforce some limits to prevent abuse (for example, can't list the content of more than 10 users per hour, or something like that... and alert me) my main doubt is how you think that should be implemented? as a special server or as a webservice? with webservice I have the advantage of being capable of using SSL in a simple way and I don't need a special client (since any browser is a client) then that could be PHP or Perl... but running as UID 0 (I don't even know if apache allows that, or if there's a workaround like SUID)

i have a dedicated server with rapidswitch. Few days back all my websites stopped working, due to some reason which i was not able to solve. NOw, i want to backup all the files stored on my server. Best Way To Move Public_html From Server To Server Using SSH
I'm trying to move all files in the public_html folder from one server to the other. The way I used to do it was download all the files to my computer, then upload them again to the new server. This is a hassle and time consuming, obviously. My question is, what is the SSH command to do the following: - Zip the public_html folder - Move or Copy zipped file from server #1 to server #2 - Unzip it the public_html folder I figure this is the easiest way to do what I'm trying to do, unless you know of a better and faster way.

Yesterday, my host (Layered Technologies) preformed an OS reinstall on my server. Everything was fine, I could connect via SSH and began to install Apache, MySQL, etc. I then disconnected from SSH. When trying to connect later, I couldn't; SSH hasn't worked for me since. I've tried it from multiple computers, running XP and OS X, and even from multiple locations. I can, however, connect to the server via HTTP, and can ping it. The datacenter staff say they have no problem connecting via SSH; and cannot help since they are unable to reproduce the issue.

i now have root access at a site i manage and the previous admin has set up a different SSH port. I think this because i get " Connection Refused " and that user has access for SSH.
