Reverse Domain Name Server (DNS) ARPA For Domain On VPS
I have a vps with dedicated ip's for my domain names. I read that in order for mails coming from my server not be picked up as spam, i need to add reverse ip entries. Now i have already added the glue nameserver records on my godaddy control panel, ns1.mydomain.com -> 10.20.30.40 ns2.mydomain.com -> 10.20.30.41 But do i need to speak to the datacenter to add the reverse dns entries for my domain on their nameservers? What about if i host my nameservers offsite, but then have my webserver/mailserver etc inside the datacenter? Would i need to request the datacenter where the nameservers are hosted to add the reverse ip entries for the domain, and then the request the same from the datacenter for my web/mail servers to add the reverse entries? Is it really required?

Reverse Domain Name Server (DNS) Problems With My Provider. Why?
Maybe somebody here can shed light on this issue. I have a VPS that is hosted at the Colo4Dallas datacenter. I have purchased a block of 5 IP addresses, and then requested reverse dns zones be added for each IP. The original 2 IP addresses that came with it, adding reverse DNS zones were no problem, it was done within a day. For some reason though, these additional 5 IP addresses they are having a horrible time with getting the zones added. My host that I have the VPS through said they put the ticket in, and Colo4Dallas is saying they may not be able to add the reverse DNS entries for some reason. I could not get any technical detail yet though because they are still working on it. My question to everyone here is.... why? Granted I do not know *THAT* much about the datacenter-side of things, but it would seem to me that an IP is an IP, and if you could add the zones for the original 2 IP addresses, why is it not as easy with an additional 5? I *have* to have reverse dns entries for these IP's for email reasons for my customers that will be on these IP addresses. Can anyone shed some light on what the technical problem could possibly be?

Where Are My E-mails Sent From? Should I Create Reverse Ip Lookup
Where am I sending e-mails from with the below settings: (Is it mail.freesexdoor.com, www.freesexdoor.com, 64.85.161.123 or 64.85.161.124?) My secondary question is: Is creating own reverse IP lookup to 64.85.161.124 possible and beneficial in my case? If so, what should I replace this SPF line with: freesexdoor.com. TXT "v=spf1 a mx ip4:64.85.161.123 ?all"? I'm trying to improve freesexdoor.com's e-mail delivery ratio because hotmail and gmail deliver my PHP mailer's sent confirmation e-mails to the junk folder. I've done everything I can to improve the sent headers etc. so there's only one more possible way to improve it: (That I can think of). Freesexdoor.com is hosted on the same server as mitorahgames.com. DirectAdmin control panel on CentOS 4.4. My server's primary IP is: 64.85.161.123 My server's hostname is: server.mitorahgames.com server.mitorahgames.com's Related DNS Settings: mailA64.85.161.123 server.mitorahgames.com.A64.85.161.123 server.mitorahgames.com.NSns1.mitorahgames.com. server.mitorahgames.com.NSns2.mitorahgames.com. mailMX10 123.161.85.64.in-addr.arpaPTRserver.mitorahgames.com. server.mitorahgames.com.TXT"v=spf1 a mx ip4:64.85.161.123 ?all" freesexdoor.com's IP is: 64.85.161.124 freesexdoor.com's Related DNS Settings: freesexdoor.com.A64.85.161.124 mailA64.85.161.124 mailMX10 freesexdoor.com.TXT"v=spf1 a mx ip4:64.85.161.123 ?all" I'm by the way putting www.freesexdoor.com (PHP reported server name) to the Message ID: field in the e-mail headers. Would putting IP there perhaps work better? If so, which IP?

Server Mirroring To Create Separate DNS Locations
If anyone can help me in doing this, I'd appreciate it. I searched to see if anyone had already done this, but I didn't find anything so my apologies if this has been answered before. Here's what I have: 1 dedicated server with a static ip of course and currently, I run all my sites off of this machine as well as my few clients. The server is running CentOS and Apache. What I want to do is build a new server at my house/office and create a secondary webserver that mirrors my current setup. I've heard about using Rsync to do this, but I want to know if it'll allow for the balancing effect I'm looking for. Rather than use this 2nd server as a backup only, I want also use it for dns resolution. Right now, all my sites are using two nameservers (NS1.2D.NET and NS2.2D.NET), but they both point to the same IP address at the same location. I want NS2.2D.NET to point to this 2nd server for redundancy (in case the other location goes down) and also for balancing (to spread traffic over two servers instead of just one). Eventually what I'm going to do is move all my clients and websites to one location again, but my own location so I can save the expenses of dedicated hosting off-site. However, I want to use this setup as a test to see if my own location will be able to handle the traffic and such.

Host Will Only Update Domain Name Server (DNS) In Batches, Takes Several Hours For A DNS Change, Normal?
Host will only update DNS in batches, takes several hours for a DNS change, is that normal? Well today my mail stopped working and it turns out the A record for mail was deleted. How it got deleted I don't know. I called my host and after speaking to 2 techs, they said that have added my request to a batch, and that would update in a few hours. I said to him, batch? What can't you do it instantly? He said thats not the way their DNS works and any DNS change would affect thousands of other sites they are hosting. Does anyone know what kind of dns system these people could possibly have where they can not reload a single zone? And by affected, I think he means the sites will go down for a minute or so, while it relaods every zone. Is this really the case, or are these people just idiots?

Domain Parking - Wildcard Domain Name Server (DNS)?
We have a lot of unused domains that we'd like to setup domain parking for. To keep it simple, we'd like to just change the namesevers to ns1.domainparking.com and ns2.domainparking.com (not real nameservers!) and the domains would then automatically show a simple web page. We use cpanel servers and are wondering how easy this is to do? I've seem mention of wildcard dns? Is that the answer?

Does anyone know how to resolve "parked" domains automatically on Win2k3 DNS?? I just can't find any answer for this, everything i've found required manual creation of lookup entries.. anyone?

How Does Reverse DNS Work
some clarification with regards to Reverse DNS. An example ip: xx.xxx.xxx.xx is owned by A Company via a DC. The they have their name allocated to the netname and description when i look up their ip address. I have my ip xx.xxx.xxx.xx this is me and it currently contains my DC's name throughout when i look it up as the description and netname... Both are from the same DC however the other company has their name allocated to the ip address and i would like to do the same. Does this require Reverse DNS? It dosent involve domains surely does it?

Reverse DNS Lookup ...
if I do a reverse lookup on my server's IP it returns a host assigned by the data center. So is this something I should even be managing too or is that always left up to the DC? I run my own DNS for the forward lookup zones. Also just a technical question, when you do a reverse lookup, how does it know where to look to get the host? I'm not sure I fully understand how these work.

Reverse DNS And PTR Records
We recently decided to move all our DNS to a service called DNS Made Easy and also our sever box. We setup what they call Vanity DNS with ns0.domain.com and ns1.domain.com so our clients did not have to change their nameservers. Our records for all domains are now setup and looks like they are beginning to propagate. Here's where the question is: IP - 1.1.1.1 is for domain1 IP - 1.1.1.2 is for domain2, domain3 and domain4 IP - 1.1.1.3 is for domain5 All domains have MX records pointing to a either Google or Mailtrust. what is the best way to setup Reverse DNS and PTR's for this setup and what should we ask our ISP to do for Reverse DNS in this case.

Example host: 65.19.156.29 master1.ipcoast.net It looks to me like HE.net has properly deligated the subnet: # dig -x 65.19.156.29 @ns1.he.net. ;; AUTHORITY SECTION: subnet0.156.19.65.in-addr.arpa. 86400 IN NS ns2.ipcoast.net. subnet0.156.19.65.in-addr.arpa. 86400 IN NS ns1.ipcoast.net. No Reverse DNS=lost Email
I have a client coming to me from another provider. Their biggest problem currently is that many emails either vanish or some get emails while others don't. I did a check on DNS Reports and found that the domain is on a shared IP address (800+domains) whereas its mail server points to another IP address. Neither of the IP addresses appear blacklisted in any spam databases. The only possibility seems to be the IP address for the web site which does not have have a PTR record (reverse DNS record). Could this be why the emails are disappearing? They have even configured SPF for the domain etc. I would like to avoid facing a similar situation when the client moves to me.

Domain Name Server DNS Pointing
Hello all, hope someone can help. I have a domain incl. hosting (fanferwalde.com) and three extra domain names, fanferwalde.nl , fanfalingasate.com , fanfalingasate.nl (all three without hosting) who I want to point to fanferwalde.com. Before I bought the extra domains I asked the provider if I could point the extra domains to the “head” domain (fanferwalde.com). Yes, that was possible they said so I bought the extra domains. I asked the provider to help with the configuration to point them to the head domain but they refused, I must do it by myself…………………….. There is no possibility they do it when I pay extra for it so I feel pressed to take also a hosting for the extra domains; then I can make a redirect on each index page. All domain names have an own DNS control panel. I have full access to this. The first picture is the DNS from the head domain. The second picture is the DNS from one of the extra domains I want to point to the head domain. What must I put where so the website from fanferwalde.com will appear when I write fanferwalde.nl in the browser? THANKS in advance!!! (Sorry for my bad English, I’m Dutch)

Domain Name Server DNS Cluster

So, is that correct? 2. It seems that when I click on 'syncronize all DNS records on all the servers' only cluster01 and srv01 got all the DNS records. So is it normal? Yet If I add a domain on cluster02 for example, where I need to add the DNS? cluster02 named.conf or on cluster01/srv01?
