How to configure SMTP on different server?
I don't know why I typed SMTP in the title. I meant just the mail server.
I just posted a message saying that my VPS is down due to FDCServers being down as they supply my host.
I can live with a 24 hr blackout on my site (however definitely not happy about it).
What I can't live with is having my mail.mydomain.com server being down at all. I run my VPS and host a few sites from it including a few clients. I need to make sure that my email doesn't go down when my VPS goes down.
How can I go about this? If I purchase a second VPS plan can I have that run just my email server for me? If so, how much in resources do I need? Will a cheap plan do the trick (ie. 64mb Ram or something)?
I have 2 domains as follows:
Domain1 on Server 1 = www.domain1.com
Domain2 on Server 2 = www.domain2.com (has a forum)
How can I configure subdomain.domain1.com, but to be on Server 2?
The idea of this exercise is to feel the visitors when they browse the forum that they are on same website/server.
my current dedi server and want to configure shoutcast for the server. I have install the shoutcast located in /usr/local/shoutcast.
Just curious one of my customer would like to use the shoutcast so how can i create a user for them? should i install manually for each of my customer that want to host shoutcast?
I got dedicated server with Windows Server 2k3 OS and have not configured it yet. I've installed Serv-U and Apache 2 (PHP, MySQL will be the next step). But I can't open my Website from home (from server there is no problems). And I can't get into my FTP server either. I scanned ports from home to figure that out. 21 for FTP is seen. 80 http is not seen. However on the server I did "netstat -an" and it showed the port 80 listening. So why can't I reach my FTP server and open my site? Is the problem in Windows Server 2k3 configuration?

now i saw a good deal that for 12 euros extra get 2 * 100mbit
so i upgraded to a 2 * 100mbit connection as the server would be
used to let members from my forum download music / music videos [remixed] made by me and my other producer so 200mbit server will do nicely for my site
now when i got it it shows me two network connections each saying 100mbit
but only one of the connections is being used and the other is not in use
is there a way that i can use both at the same time or maybe use one for http/ftp and one just for ther server itslef

I am setup in a co-location facility. I just recieved my new SonicWall TZ180 which I am trying to setup.
Previously I had my server connected to the internet drop via a static ip address assigned via windows tcp/ip (1.1.1.2), nothing special there. Then I used Plesk and assign domains and ip addresses as normal.
My co-location facility gives me 4 static ip addresses, lets call them:
1.1.1.2
1.1.1.3
1.1.1.4
1.1.1.5
And an ip address called Network Gateway at:
1.1.1.1
And DNS ips at:
2.2.2.2
2.2.2.3
I am trying to figure out how I make this work now with the SonicWall. I am using Plesk, and I have already assigned all DNS settings and name servers to their proper static IP address, such as:
ns.mydomain.com -> 1.1.1.2
ns.myseconddomain.com -> 1.1.1.3
So I cannot use the local ip address (192.168.168.2) assigned to the server box by default by SonicWall using DHCP. I must use the actual static ip addresses assigned to me and already configured in Plesk. I have heard I need to use NAT, and assign the SonicWall the ip address of the network gateway: 1.1.1.1, then add the 4 standard static ip addresses into a pool in the sonic wall.
What configurations are needed on a whm/cpanel vps hosting account in order to be used as a mail server for a domain being hosted on another server? The domain's mx entry have already been altered to point to the target mail server.

I have a class project that we are working on where we have to configure and implement an Apache server with ssl using ldap for authentication. I have documentation of literally everything I have done in the configuration. Everything seems to be fine with the config that I can tell. The client gets a prompt for username and password when they access the server ip address. However, once the correct username and password are entered, then the client receives a 500 internal server error message instead of the webpage: "Internal Server Error...The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

I have just moved away from Kloxo Hosting, and I am a bit confused as to how I go about setting Client domains to use the (Already Registered) Nameserver Records I have created on the server.
You see, when I create a customer, the template adds the domain with it's own nameservers, ex: (ns.customerdomain.com -> 0.0.0.0) I don't want this to be the case.
What I would like to achieve, is for all my client's to have their NS records pointing at the NS records I already have registered on the server.
The reason for this is, when I submit the registration document to my local registrar, I have to specify the nameserver address for the domain, however, I only have 2 IP's on the server. I cannot glue every customer's domain FQDN to an IP.
I have a server with serverbeach and I have WHm and cpanel installed but I have no clue how to install any other programs on my server.
I wanted to install FFMPEG and a few other things but I do not know how to remote in or anything like that.
I am on Windows XP and I have full root access to my server (its dedicated).

You could go a little 'crazy' and chattr +i all your major binaries......however my only issue with this is that yum updates will fail until you manually chattr -i and update.

What are the ways to find out why a CentOS 5.3 server running cPanel suddenly went offline.
I ran "last reboot -n 10" and "last" and grepped for shutdown calls, but nothing. /var/log/messages.1 reveals nothing as well.
I decided to go with Cent OS after reading about it in the forums here, but I've had nothing but problems trying to install it. I first tried to do a net install but the installation took nearly an entire day because it would keep popping up messages about corrupt files when downloading the package files. Eventually it just gave up or rebooted because I came in in the morning to find it at a message saying "No OS installed". I then burned all 7 installation disks and tried that way, still got a few of the corrupt file messages (but far fewer than the previous time) and made it through the installation only to still have it say "no os installed" again after the reboot. I thought maybe it had something to do with the fact that I was not installing a boot loader (there is no other OS installed anyways) but when I tried to reinstall a third time, this time with the boot loader, it now says that the CD drive (USB) is already mounted on tty2 and I can't even start the installation? WTH!
The server is a Dell PowerEdge R300 with two Intel Core 2 Duo 64-bit processors. I'm using the x86_64 ISOs from the Centos.org mirrors.

i have a problem with all my server with RHEL4 or Centos 4.4, when u upload small files on the server the system report a different size, this is a little example

where are this 5kb of difference? i have note that this happend when a site have small files inside, example when u install joomla about 7mb on my server it is 18Mb, the server size block is set to 4kb
I have setup a CentOS 4.5 on a server with no fancy options enabled.
The only thing I have is the ssh service running on port 22.
The server comes up fine but is inaccessible until I login into the console and pings an external IP or domain.
Once I have done this, I am able to remotely login into the server via ssh.
And then few minutes after, the server becomes unavailable again until I do the same routine...ping an external IP or domain.
