Windows 2000 Or Windows 2000 Server

Mar 6, 2007

Is there a registry key that can distinguish between Windows 2000 and Windows 2000 server?
In

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionProductName

That key is Windows 2000 for both Win 2k and Win 2k server so if there's anything else that would be GREAT.

Will The Nameservers Work If The Nameservers Are Pointed To A Parking Page

May 26, 2008

Will the nameservers work if the nameservers are pointed to a parking page?
For example:

I need to change my nameservers to ns1.mywebhost.com and ns2.mywebhost.com

(nameservers are made up)

These nameservers are from my web hosting service provider. When I visit the nameservers, it shows up a parking page from a domain parking service (let's say NameDrive parking page)

Will the nameservers function correctly and will my websites work? I have this question because usually the nameservers that I use, they always point to a CP page or something like that rather than a parking page.

Over 2000 GB Of Bandwidth

May 25, 2009

I'm leasing a single dedicated server and it's over 2 TB of traffic this month. It should be almost 3 TB by the end of this month.

The site is very well optimized (mostly static pages, cache, lighttpd, etc) and I'm guessing it could survive 6-10 TB/month traffic with one server.

Traffic is growing for the third month in a row. Not much, but it's noticeable.

It's the first time I'm over standard 2 TB traffic limit. I'm hosting at Leaseweb and I asked them how much does it cost to upgrade my bandwidth, but haven't heard from them since last Friday.

Where do I get a server with a decent amount of bandwidth and wouldn't have to sell my soul to afford it? The problem is, my budget is quite low (hence all the optimizations on the site - to save money on hardware).

Most of my traffic is from US, so I may have to consider American host.

ColdFusion And MS SQL 2000 On VPS

Jun 8, 2007

A customer of ours is looking to use ColdFusion and MS SQL 2000.

Our VPS provider does not provide for ColdFusion or MS SQL so we referred them to another host. This host is unable to properly configure for their needs, and we are standing by the client to assist until everything is working properly.

Can anyone recommend a good host who provides cold fusion / ms sql plans using VPS?

Is this too much to ask and should they be looking at a dedicated server?

Windows 2000 FTP

Mar 12, 2007

Our windows 2000 NT server will not allow users to login to the FTP unless they are classified as administrators. I have the domain set up with all of the correct permissions (to my knowledge).

1. Access to FTP folders

2. Access to Read under FTP

If there is some permission not set, please let me know.

The users are added to the Domain controller under Active Directory. I saw a post about the same exact problem on another forum, but there was no answer.

Backing Up MS SQL 2000

Apr 25, 2007

I am basically a Mac user and my windows desktop just went kaput. I am looking for a cheap and dirty way to make back-ups of my MS SQL 2000 DB.

Is it possible to run a script that creates a copy of it in MS Access which can later be convereted back into MS SQL?

Is it possible to go from MS SQL to MySQL?

The MS SQL 2000 server is hosted on a shared server and I cannot leave DTS packages on it. I prefer not to go the DTS route as it goes way over my head anyway. I do, by the way, have a dedicated Win 2003 server.

SQL 2000 Databases Hacked

Apr 14, 2008

Recently I have noticed at least a couple of SQL 2000 databses hacked in different servers. The hacker inserts a javascript code whose source is [url] file. The code is inserted in all records of some tables especially the tables having html code in the records. We are running SQL 2000 on some unused port and not the default port and also we have firewalls enabled in all the servers. We also have the latest updates and fixes applied in the servers. Can anybody throw some light on this and help me find the cause and solution to prevent this from happening again?

SBS 2000 External IP Change

to change the external IP address on a Windows SBS 2000 server running Exchange. Is there a wizard to handle changes to the NIC, Exchange, etc, all at once? Or do I have to go into each one and change the settings?

Also, does anyone know of a good guide for doing this that might be posted on the Internet? I looked but could not find anything.

Windows Server 2000, IIS And PHP

Oct 27, 2007

I have successfully installed PHP onto my MS Server 2000 platform, and can execute the files without problem.

html files no longer work, but I think this is to be expected? Renaming them .php allows them to work.

However, I am struggling to set a default page - I have gone to 'document' in the IIS settings, and removed all other default pages, and added index.php. This has not worked. I can access xxx.myserver.com/index.php, but it does not show when accessing xxx.myserver.com

Windows 2000/XP Dedicated Servers

Apr 11, 2008

The minimum requirements that I am seeking for is that it must be a Windows 2000 or Windows XP machine with at least 1024 MB of DDR PC3200 RAM and at least a single-core 2 GHz CPU whether it be AMD or Intel (something suitable for a gameserver and webserver combo), 40GB SATA/RAID Harddrive, and a Full Duplex 100 Mbit port with plenty of bandwidth to run a 32-Player 66tic CSS Server.

The price range that I seek is between $60 to $120 per month.

Maintenance Of Shared Hosting SQL 2000/2005

Mar 11, 2008

how do you guys do the maintenance for shared hosting SQL 2000/2005? Do you just let the customers do the maintenance, compacting and optimizing themselves or do you scheduled a task to do that?

Till now I had let my clients do that. But some clients it seemed do not really know much about this. But if we were to compact or optimize all the databases by task scheduling, I am worried that it is something against their privacy.

Windows 2000 Advanced Server Performance

Nov 27, 2007

I have a Windows 2000 Advanced Server where there's a performance issue with some of the .asp pages that retrieve data from Access databases, (I know Access databases aren't ideal for data). These pages will just get stuck/freeze, and then either suddenly spring back to life, or give a script timeout error 0113.

The largest Access database I've seen is 136MB (is that way too large?)

I will probably move some of the large Access databases onto a different server but before I do:

- Are there any tools you can recommend to diagnose exactly what files / databases are causing the problem. I don't think the Win 2000 performance monitor tools even work.

- Can anyone explain more about the technicalities behind this issue. I expect it has something to do with processes, threads, memory, Access drivers being loaded into memory etc etc. Can anyone tell me what they know to put me in the picture better?

Consuming Heavy Bandwith Upto 2000 US$+ Per Month

Jun 14, 2008

We are facing a very problematic situation since last several months due to accessive bandwith usage. But we are sure this is only local traffic.

We have 2 Servers with our hosting provider
Server A - this is a VPS
all our webfiles/domains/dns/nameservers reside on this server

Server B - this is a dedicated server
contains only databases

(we are actively running vbulletin based forums on this servers)

Since last several months we are facing huge bandwith increase since we have transferred only our databases to Server B. (earlier database + everything was on Server A) We never ever consumed even 50% of the entire allocated bandwith in past when we were on Server A.

But only after moving the database from Server A to Server B we have found this tremendous increase,

Can we do something about same ? as both the servers belong to same hosting provider.
We are not sure but expect that this is only local network traffic between 2 servers.

Nameservers

Oct 29, 2008

Will domains still function if they have differing nameservers at the registry from what they do on the server side? i.e. domain1.com pointing to ns1/2.example.com at the registry but on the server the DNS zone has it as ns1/2.example2.com, baring in mind both sets of nameservers are pointing at the same server.

Nameservers...what Do I Do Next?

Jul 22, 2007

I have purchased a reseller account from www.reseller.net (not real names) They provide me with ns1.reseller.net and ns2.reseller.net, as well as the two associated ip addresses. They tell me to use these 2 ip addresses to set up my own custom nameservers.

I want my own nameservers - ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com. Tech support at www.reseller.net tells me thay cannot help me. They tell me to go to the company where I purchased and manage the domain name www.mydomain.com.

I do, and find the control panel page where I -CREATE NAME SERVER-. This I do, and I use the above mentioned ip addresses. This seems to work. When I go back to this control panel page the next day, the entries I made are still there. Yet, I cannot "ping" my nameservers.

Now what? I have tried "google-ing" and not being a super-tech, I get lost. It appears that I must make some changes in my WHM, (I have a WHM...), but I have no access to any "Server" settings.

I have another reseller account with a totally different company, and when I asked them to set up custom nameservers, they just "did it" for me. Again, the hosting company was not related to the domain registering company.

Best Way To Set Up My Nameservers

Dec 7, 2007

I am experimenting with setting up my first unmanaged dedicated server.

I have directadmin as a cp.

I have 5 separate IP's available to me.

I went to my domain registrar and set up host as ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com using my first two IP's that are available.

My question now is what is the best way to use my three remaining IP's? Do I set them up as completely different domain nameservers ie. ns1.otherdomain.com etc.? Out of those three, I thought you need two IP's per nameserver domain? Is that wrong thinking?

I don't want any relationship shown in a whois dns info between the ips.
