New VPS And Mailing List

May 28, 2008

Just got a new WiredTree VPS up and running. Service has been great so far. Make that super!

VPS newbie question: I would like to set a limit on emails for all domains but mine to some number per hour, but I would like mine to be unlimited. I'm not going to be sending a lot, but, when necessary, they will need to go fast. So far, the only way I have figured out how to keep unlimited for me is to not set a throttle at all and allow Mailman only on admin domains. If any user has to have lists, then I can authorize it then and maybe keep tabs on it.(There's probably a lot better way to say that, but I'm tired :-)

Mailing List

Aug 23, 2007

I have a client who is interested in settin up a paying mailing list for a website I built for him.

I figured since he doesn't want to spend $3000 for a full CMS, I would just do things manually.

A customer would pay through Paypal. He would then check PayPal for any new subscribers dailys, add them if new, and then send out his newsletter daily to the people who have paid.

In the mailing list software, there would be a box for how many days this person would be allowed to be sent an e-mail and then once his subscription was up, an e-mail would be sent out (the last part is optional).

Does anyone have any insight of a program/script that would work in this manner? Or maybe a decently cheap script that they know of? This site is a non-profit, donation site.

Send To Mailing List Via Outlook

Sep 27, 2008

As you know, most mailinglists are built as you have to send emails from a control panel.

But I am searching for a script or service where a group of members can email each other from their favourite email program, such as Outlook.

Only those members would be allow to send to the list.

Mailing List Friendly Hosts

Aug 27, 2008

I'm downsizing my hosting business and I need to find a new host for a good client of mine. They are a small independent record label and use around 2gb of storage and 100gb of transfer. More importantly, though, they make heavy use of their mailman mailing lists.

Can anyone recommend a host who doesn't limit outbound emails per hour or who has another solution for large mailing lists?

How To Enable Mailing List In CentOS Plesk VPS

Jul 24, 2009

On one of our VPSes, the Mailing List feature is disabled. The link is showing but is disabled. Upon searching a lot in Google, I found I need to have MailMan installed before I could run Mailing List.

However, we have Mailman already installed on the VPS in question. Any suggestion as to how to get the mailing list link activated?

Mailing List Solution - Hosting Company

Feb 12, 2009

Need to send emails to around 4500 subscribers.

Currently have PLESK (MailMan) - but if I create Mailing List. Mailing list email goes in "To:" field and anyone can see that email address, and may perhaps also use that.
Thought to use Desktop Software - but ISP (Cable Broadband) has a limit of 100 emails per session.

Experimented a php/mysql quick solution, but it takes very long time and browser times out. Also. not sure how cron can be configured via script.

Is there any hosting company having a better email solution (where in "To:" field individual's email address goes)?

How do you manage your business mailing needs currently?

Mass Mailing Host_lookup_failed

I'm trying to send a mass mailing to around 50.000 people, as of now, about 70% returns in the exim mail queue with the following header at the top.

Code:
mailnull 47 12

-helo_name www.example.com
-host_address 222.21.147.57.38441 (fake)
-host_auth fixed_login

-body_linecount 219

The problem is in the host_lookup_failed part.

Mailing Lists On Shared Hosting

Oct 8, 2009

I have a client/friend who I am developing a website for and they want a mailing list feature.

I have a shared-hosting account and they have quite strict mailing list policies.

Firstly, they require a double opt-in for each contact, so that each address is validated. I have discussed this with the client, who run an events company, most of the email addresses they receive are taken from attendees who write their email down at the event. They would rather not have to verify each email address before adding to list.

My other concern is whether my hosting will be able to handle the mailing list. There seems to be quite strict limitations on amount of emails that can be sent (1 every 8 seconds).

I have no idea as to the volume of the list, they do not have any emails at the moment, but as the list and company grows I am worried there may be problems which I would rather not have to deal with.

Is mailing on shared-hosting often a done-thing, or should I suggest a third-party mailing solution?

Mailing Lists Keeps Sending Out The Same Emails

Jan 6, 2007

I'm currently experiencing a problem on several accounts on the same server. It seems that the mailing lists sections of Cpanel keeps sending out emails that don't exist.

For example, I have one of my sites set up with a moderated mailing list. When an email comes in, I get an email telling me that I have something waiting to be approved. Well, I got about 100 in 2 days and there's nothing there to be approved. Actually it's the SAME message over and over.

I have several clients with the same issues where the mailing lists keeps sending out old emails but the same ones over and over.

Difficulties E-mailing @yahoo Addresses

Dec 20, 2007

For many months now Yahoo keeps returning 'temporarily deferred' errors when our server tries to deliver an e-mail to any @yahoo address. Sometimes the emails manage to get through after several hours or days of trying and in many other instances the delivery attempts eventually time out after 4 days resulting in a bounce.

Sample Log entry:

Quote:

2007-12-19 03:59:49 [8808] 1J4umL-0002I2-IQ == ********@yahoo.ca R=lookuphost T=remote_smtp defer (0): SMTP error from remote mail server after initial connection: host c.mx.mail.yahoo.com [216.39.53.3]: 421 Message from (72.52.***.***) temporarily deferred - 4.16.50. Please refer to [url]

Yes, we have read the above URL above. It has no technical explanation or solution for the error. The only thing we got out of it was to fill out a form for help which we did. But they don't even read our e-mails. They keep sending back generic copy & paste e-mails which are irrelevant to the problem (e.g. asking for info on our mailing list.. what mailing list!? asking for a sample e-mail which went into the bulk folder.. Who said anything about mail going into bulk folder!?). For over 2 months we've been trying to get some sort of explanation for the error or some tips on what to do. They're of no help.

Meanwhile our users continue to have serious problems e-mailing @yahoo addresses... Anyone else experiencing this problem?

Exim: Send Separate Message For Mailing Lists

Jul 9, 2009

I've just came across an issue with mailing list on a Linux server. Problem is that when a message is broadcasted from a mailing list having around 1500 subscribers, most of them having @yahoo.com and @hotmail.com addresses, message to most of the recepients fails with following error...

Code:
2009-07-09 12:26:25 1MOn2u-0001CB-QJ SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<he***k@yahoo.com>: host c.mx.mail.yahoo.com [216.39.53.3]: 452 Too many recipients
It is becuase exim tries to send a message to as many recepients as it could to users on same domain

On a Windows server, i was running Merak mail server and there was an option to send separate message to all mailing list subscribers, but i don't know where it could be located in exim config, or even if it has!

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: Whitelisting Localhost And Mailing Lists

Apr 3, 2015

There seems to be confusion and documentation conflicts around whether we should be whitelisting localhost or not when using Mailing Lists.

In this documentation it suggests that localhost is no longer needed, and in fact needs to be removed from the whitelist if Outbound Spam protection is to function correctly: [URL] ....

But on the other hand, this documentation suggests to add localhost to the whitelists, even though the warning says otherwise, and that outgoing mailing list mail will still be processed by Outgoing Spam Control. [URL] ....

Through trial and error, i've found that my mailing lists were not able to send mail to external email accounts unless localhost is whitelisted.

If I want all mail scripts to be going through the Outbound Spam Control, and also having my mailing lists working, should I be adding localhost to my whitelist?
