I've been asked to update a site whose web author is no longer available. I have the ftp details, but when I ftp in I can not see a structure that matches the URL I see when visiting the site through a browser.
A sample URL is http://www.****.org/~issw2004/issw_general/2006.php
But the file structure I see when I go into the server using ftp, has issw2004 way down the directory, with no ~ preceding it (what does the ~ mean?), and it is empty of files or children folders.
I've tried doing a global search of the site for both the file name, and some text that that file contains, but both return empty.
So, I'm stuck. I know little about URL rewriting, and apart from knowing that files can be hidden or paths rewritten, don't know where to start in 'finding' the file I need to change!
Using Plesk 12 with an automated install of Wordpress. Created a site locally using wamp and after some database related issues finally managed to upload the content using a plug in and the content looks fine and largely(!) works. The directory structure is root/httpdocs/wordpress (and I can't change that as a webapp is using it - presumably the Wordpress install).
Following various articles on the net I've deleted the Wordpress skeleton files and index.html file however I'm not entirely sure whether the index.php file should directly be under root or in the httpdocs folder?? - as wherever I put index.php and edit the path accordingly it doesn't display the site.Adding the wordpress folder into the site address ie mysite.com/wordpress displays the content.
Also one article indicated that as I'm using permalinks I need to also copy the .htaccess file but it doesn't display in the Plesk file manager. I know it's a hidden file but I can't see it either when forcing FileZilla to show hidden files.[edit - as it's a windows server, further reading indicates it should be web.config rather than .htaccess (?) but the same comment applies... imh]
I'm trying to accomplish a rather common task of removing file extensions, where say, instead of index.php, just index can be accessed.
I've gone through many tutorials that offer all sorts of different ways how this can be accomplished and none of it works but what's commonly given is something like this.
Im trying to add a crontab, once I enter it, such as: /home/<username>/public_html/<install_dir>/cron/cronjob.php --job=httpd_conf What do I need to type in so its added?
I'm noticing that apache's mod layout is dead upstream and has been for a while. I'm looking for somthing to use to put ads and a legal disclaimer on free hosted blogs (lifetype).
Was wondering if any software others use to get a layout of their network setup. Ex. get details on devices connected to the network, a network map and what not.
Not sure if this makes sense but let me know if clarifications are needed.
in reference to this thread that was only brought to my attention recently...

and as it seems to be a few months old, more than enough time to get a new design, i will be reporting Megapowerhosting to their data center for ripping the Geek Rack design. now, i could care less what people think of Geek Rack at this point, but, I was the designer that Shequeita referred to in the thread, and stated that i never gave consent to use the layout. So, that is correct. it was ripped, and she owns the layout, as do I.
yes, geekrack is no longer, but, it doe NOT change the fact that the design was ripped. I tried to contact this Brian (chopperb) via his live support, but, he immediately closed the chat and signed off so that he would not have to talk to me. i did a whois and tried to call him, but, the contact number was disconnected.
so, here is my warning:
BRIAN, YOU HAVE TILL MONDAY, JULY 7, 208 TO REMOVE THE LAYOUT RIP, OR YOU WILL BE REPORTED TO YOUR DATA CENTER AND SHUT DOWN.
i never gave you permission to use my design, so, take it down immediately, or you can pay me for the layout. btw, not only did you steal my layout and design, you did a terrible job trying to make it look different. you just made it look like crap, but, you can tell that it is still the same layout, especially when i see you using the same price badges i specifically created for GR.
i want to install a red5 streaming server on FreeBSD6.2
The install was no problem and i get no errors.
So far so good.
But, i want to stream with the rtmp protocal so i used flv player to test. The link i tried was rtmp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/oflaDemo/Transformers.flv (standard red5 example file)
But i get nothing on the screen, i tried a lot of other urls but no succes, red5 seems to work (see below for details)
How can i test of red5 works after a standard installation?
I have downloaded httpd-2.4.9-win32.zip from VC10 Win32 link which includes IPv6 Crypto apr-1.5.0 apr-util-1.5.3 apr-iconv-1.2.1 openssl-1.0.1h zlib-1.2.8 pcre-8.34 libxml2-2.9.1 lua-5.1.5 expat-2.1.0.
I unzipped and installed on my system. Configured SSL. I installed in directory C:Apache24
I just want to use a server for file sharing, it will have nginx and that's it. I'm looking at centos, or freebsd, but I been using centos forever now and I'm not sure how to use freebsd, should I just stay with centos?
Do I tell my hosting provider to just install the OS and give me ssh action and that's it? Don't install any control panels or any other stuff? I want one domain and one subdomain on it though and ftp action.
I am planning to buy a dedicated server and a shared server from a hosting company. Basically I want to have a redundant server so that if one file server goes down, there is no downtime.
Somehow the servers would need to be constantly synchronized so that the files saved to one are immediately saved to the other server as well.
Can somebody told me how to setup the 2 server so that my dedicated server can serve as the main server and if the dedicated server is down, the shared server can automatically be activated and visitors of my website will auto be redirect to the shared server.
Do i need to setup any backup DNS too so that when the dedicated server is down, it will auto redirect the user to the shared server.
I want to build one File Server looks like Rapidshare / Megaupload, but this only for internal purposes only, i will put 5 TB only for the harddrive, can you guys recommend the hardware specs for me.
I have a server running windows server 2003, IIS. I have a password protected folder where i have a coldfusion script. I'm trying to write a Batch Script that will run the coldfusion script but the Password Protected folder is giving me problems. I'm using Integrated Authentication on that folder.
anyone know how to write a .BAT script that will load the script and also pass the u/p to that folder so the script can be run?
I own a file hosting and delivery site, and am looking for new/better way (that involves the use of a large storage array, such as the Dell PowerVault MD1000) to store and serve user files. I currently have many separate file servers that store and serve user files, and each server has roughly the following specs:
Quad core processor 4-8GB RAM 8x750GB RAID-10
I know with the large storage array, I will need front-end servers to retrieve files from it, but wasn't really sure how this works. Also, would this new method be more optimal/cost-effective than my current method (I probably think the answer is yes).
is there a way that i can have a web server that runs windows server 2003 and be able to have file hosting on it...so people can upload files to it and be able to access it without having to have a domain name?
i have a problem trying to upload files to a server, when i try and upload a file, (.htm) i get a message: file already exists (even though it doesn't), which if i then say to overwrite, it creates an empty file of 0mb, (with the name of the file i am trying to upload).
i don't know a great deal about web servers - are there any web server settings which may be causing this.
We have a requirement of a file server that has at least 10tb secure disk space such as raid 1+0.
We tried solutions with voxel but they have failed to prove the desired results since the solution provided to us was a nfs with samba mount in windows. The network transfer speed is too low to sustain atleast 100Mbps file transfers.
he basic thing we need is:
10TB+ Files----->mounted in multiple servers----> http files served.
