File Server Setup With Nginx...how Do I Choose The Config For The Server

Apr 22, 2009

I just want to use a server for file sharing, it will have nginx and that's it. I'm looking at centos, or freebsd, but I been using centos forever now and I'm not sure how to use freebsd, should I just stay with centos?

Do I tell my hosting provider to just install the OS and give me ssh action and that's it? Don't install any control panels or any other stuff? I want one domain and one subdomain on it though and ftp action.

File Server Redundancy

Sep 29, 2009

I am planning to buy a dedicated server and a shared server from a hosting company.
Basically I want to have a redundant server so that if one file server goes down, there is no downtime.

Somehow the servers would need to be constantly synchronized so that the files saved to one are immediately saved to the other server as well.

Can somebody told me how to setup the 2 server so that my dedicated server can serve as the main server and if the dedicated server is down, the shared server can automatically be activated and visitors of my website will auto be redirect to the shared server.

Do i need to setup any backup DNS too so that when the dedicated server is down, it will auto redirect the user to the shared server.

File Server Setup

Oct 18, 2008

I own a file hosting and delivery site, and am looking for new/better way (that involves the use of a large storage array, such as the Dell PowerVault MD1000) to store and serve user files. I currently have many separate file servers that store and serve user files, and each server has roughly the following specs:

Quad core processor
4-8GB RAM
8x750GB RAID-10

I know with the large storage array, I will need front-end servers to retrieve files from it, but wasn't really sure how this works. Also, would this new method be more optimal/cost-effective than my current method (I probably think the answer is yes).

File Server Requirement

Mar 29, 2008

We have a requirement of a file server that has at least 10tb secure disk space such as raid 1+0.

We tried solutions with voxel but they have failed to prove the desired results since the solution provided to us was a nfs with samba mount in windows. The network transfer speed is too low to sustain atleast 100Mbps file transfers.

he basic thing we need is:

10TB+ Files----->mounted in multiple servers----> http files served.

Plesk 12.x / Windows :: STOP Resetting File Permissions On DLL File?

Sep 17, 2014

How can we stop Plesk resetting the file permissions on a dll file that is found in

C:Program Files (x86)

??

Specifically,

we have a file, jmail.dll,

here

C:Program Files (x86)Dimacw3JMail

By default Plesk permissions are set to DENY for PSACLN.

But the JMail plugin cannot work with these permissions !

We change this to be ALLOW for READ & EXECUTE and DENY for WRITE.

And everything works fine.

But every time Plesk does an update it reverts it back !

This means that a number of our customers contact forms stop working !

Remote File Server And Web Server

I own a file hosting site. The site is powered by 2 servers - 1 front end web and database server, and 1 where all the files are stored.

I'm facing a problem that uploading and downloading often failed. Connections to mysql would timeout.

Has it to do with mysql settings or because the file server is located at a distance from the sql server?

(my.cnf on the sql server)
[mysqld]
skip-locking
skip-innodb
max_user_connections=6000
max_connections=6000

Url I See Doesn't Map To File Layout On Server.

Mar 15, 2009

I've been asked to update a site whose web author is no longer available. I have the ftp details, but when I ftp in I can not see a structure that matches the URL I see when visiting the site through a browser.

A sample URL is http://www.****.org/~issw2004/issw_general/2006.php

But the file structure I see when I go into the server using ftp, has issw2004 way down the directory, with no ~ preceding it (what does the ~ mean?), and it is empty of files or children folders.

I've tried doing a global search of the site for both the file name, and some text that that file contains, but both return empty.

So, I'm stuck. I know little about URL rewriting, and apart from knowing that files can be hidden or paths rewritten, don't know where to start in 'finding' the file I need to change!

Web Server - File And MySQL Backups

Mar 2, 2009

how to achieve the following:

We have a dedicated server, on which we hosts about 15 sites. I am needing to:
Backup each site individually (all files)
Backup each Db associated with each site
FTP to our own in-house ftp server

I have been searching around all afternoon, and possible solutions to each point above are the following:

Iterate through each top level folder in, say /var/www/vhosts/ and tar each folder individaully

I have only been able to do a mysqldump the whole server, and have only found scripts into which you have to manually specify each db if i need separate backups for each one done

Not an issue, we currently have backups from a separate server running

Is it possible to set this all up in one, top-level cron job?

File Hosting Dedicated Server

Oct 26, 2008

One of my Clients asked me about what kind of server would be great and can handle File hosting website like Rapidshare, Megaupload and Adrive?

He just wants to start it here in Arab market Specially [Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE] in hope to do something special with good service.

He will give the visitors two options:-

Free uploading max: 100 MB per file.

Premium uploading max: 1000 MB per file.

Also he asked which kind of file uploading script can handle this. with high fast upload/download speed

About the budget for the first 3 months he want to pay max 250/m after this, if everything is okay he can pay up to 500~1000$ per month. Nop By the way... most of the

Arab market still looking for Rapidshare & 4shared alternatives. As well as they need website in Arabic language with easy steps to use.

Server should come with cPanel/WHM
High Premium Bandwidth.... [Most Important]
Managed will be wonderful but unmanaged is ok.

Server File Deletion Programs

Mar 7, 2007

I have a program that creates a new file each time someone (or somebot) accesses the page and stores these files in a specific directory on my server. I would like to delete these files once a week so I would schedule it as a cron job, but I can't find a program that will actually delete files from the server in a directory I specify. I have found some programs but they all require that the files to be deleted use a specific name and the files I want to delete have long random names. Does anyone have a recommendation for a small program like this?

Multiple Server File Distribution

Sep 21, 2007

We're running multiple cPanel-based Linux boxes now, and are looking for a simple way to distribute our basic system files across all boxes. No important low-level files, just the basic cron job bash scripts we run on all servers etc. This would also be a help for syncing these shared files across to new boxes we bring online.

Does anybody have any recommendations for a simple file distribution system for this purpose? Ideally it would run as a cron job rsyncing the files across.

It may just be easier for us to write our own script for the purpose, but thought I should ask if there was anything off the shelf
