If a client has not checked his/her email in 2 weeks and then we change the hosting companies (switch nameservers of the domain), will these emails be lost?
I've been using dot5hosting for about 2 years now and they have been alight. The thing is, for the last two years I have only been hosting a basic html/css website which is never to much stress on the servers. I don't get a huge amount of visitors on my site, but its a decent amount.
Just recently I have added a forum and blog on my site. For the forum I use Invision Power Board 2.3 and for my blog I use Wordpress 2.7. This is where the trouble begins.
Both the forum and the blog work fine, but they just take ages to load. If I had over 100 user on the blog and forum at one moment I would understand, but I haven't released the blog and forum to the public yet, as I'm trying to optimize them. The forum takes abou 10 seconds to load completely, while the blog takes over 15 seconds. I have tried everything with wordpress like cache etc..
So, I come here to ask what host you guys recommend for me. I've been looking over at HostGator and they seem to be what I need. I was also looking at MediaTemple Grid but form what I've read the Grid Service is very slow, and expensive. I just need a host that can run anything related to PHP and MySQl fast (like Wordpress and IPB)
I am in the process of transferring my hosting provider. I have completed the necessary steps to register an account with my new host(Host Papa). They already successfully transferred my domain and i am now waiting for the DNS change to be recognized(24-72 hrs). Host Papa now says the only thing to be done is to upload the website files to their server. The problem is that i have not yet copied the files from my old host, and i cannot seem to access the files now, as they have transferred the domain already.
I have no idea how to locate the files, as i have no access to my cPanel. I have not canceled my old host yet, and will not until my site is live on the new host. But i am stressing hard because i cant locate the files and obviously need that to happen asap.
Currently I'm using a bare bones managed dedicated server from managemybox. The price is right, but for some reason, and I can't tell what's the problem, my server will time out multiple times a week. I am not having traffic spikes, it just seems to come and go and every contact with MMB I get a 'working fine now' response. Sometimes they take action, but don't explain to me what they do and don't offer solutions.
I'd love to find another managed dedicated server for under or around $100. I'm finding this very difficult to do.
I am currently hosting about 8 sites which range in traffic from 100 visitors per month to over 1700 per day. However, all sites are either WP or light php application. Do you think I've perhaps just outgrown what I'm using?
good host for under 25 a month that includes a shopping cart, email and manual credit card processing for at least 125 products and stats..?
looked at godaddy but after adding all the extras...
I have been hosting my website with Yahoo for almost a year now. I am looking into a new hosting service that is better than Yahoo. I will be having a Content Management System (probably Joomla) and few more databases. Planning on installing a free shopping cart.
What do you think is a top web host to replace Yahoo?
What is the easiest way to transfer sites between hosts. The databases are no problem, but the sites often have hundreds and thousands of files and my ftp programs keep bombing out.
I'm on a mac os x intel. Is there some program or command line method/utility to make this process easier?
I just installed a new server and I would like to transfer all virtual-hosts on new Apache installation.
I updated all IP addresses in each .config file and simply uploaded the edited conf files into new /etc/apache2/sites-available folder. I rebooted Apache, but through Webmin I can not see them on Existing virtual hosts list. Why? Do I need to manually re-add all the 30 sites?
I have a vps (CPANEL)... I would like to have incoming emails for a certain cpanel account transfer to another external server (after coming thru the VPS).
I store my emails on the external server and have more space there.
The reason behind this is:
I have spamassassin on my VPS and would like to run email thru that before it delivers on the external server. I do not have the capability to install spamassassin on the external server.
Is the above possible? How can I accomplish this?
I made a post earlier this week regarding spec of a server, and thanks for all the replies, looks like we were looking in the wrong area looking at hardware, instead of our application. However what it did bring to light is problems swapping from our server 1 to server 2.
Both our servers are hosted by same company, our domain name points at one of the servers, and as we were experiencing problems with speed decided to move our name from server 1 to server 2, we did this using a control panel supplied by our hosting company, this worked, but however caused major problems as some of our users accessing the server could not access for nearly 24 hours, I understand now that making these changes takes time to propogate around the web.
My question is, is there anyway of switching our domain name from one server another, that from a user point of view is nearly instant, so within minutes of us making the switch ALL our users can access the new server?
Switching servers and I'm wondering if there's a way to redirect the members who are still seeing the old site to the right location. I've seen this done thru using IPs. I have 2 main domain that would probably be really useful with it..

View 0 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to switch an account from 1 server to another. I have the cPanel account set up on server1, and I need it to be moved to server2.
I've tried all the WHM features on the new cPanel, but I get the following error:
/usr/bin/perl: error while loading shared libraries: libperl.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Now, I figure this error means that the server is having a problem with perl,
I have watched the screencast on domains etc and I sort of get it, but I have a website for a client that already has email and a server and things but I have to transfer it. basicly the site is hosted on the old developers server and the email is on one of my clients just as an email host(eclipse). so I need to make the domain point to a new server and the email to point from that sever to eclipse without any disruption to the website and especially the email. because I can't afford to make any mistake on this I am asking for the best way to do this.
Do I just change the records on the domain(123reg) and the new server so that it all points to the new server then find the email records(MX or A, can't remember) and get the email server pointing to there after? where do I find these records? and will it cause disruption to the email because of routers and stuff updating as said in the screecast or is that just for new domains?
I just started using CPanel and am transferring clients from 1and1.
With 1and1, I had to set up a subdomain (mail.domain.com) and then set the Mx record to mail.domain.com and the A record to the IP. Then I pointed the domain domain.com mail servers to mail.domain.com.
Can you walk me through it using CPanel?
I am looking for a VPS hosting company that basically allows unlimited email sending without restrictions. Does it necessarily have to be off-shore?
I will be sending about 300k per day, or somewhere in that neighborhood.
The bandwidth and storage I am not too concerned about.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOur mail queue is getting stuffed with emails because remote hosts cant find our hostname.....
Should we change the hostname? Should we change the main IP? Submit a ticket with the DC? (This'll be faster, thats a last min option)
hostname: piper.bluepipes.net
IP: 208.53.131.149 (i think)
I know how to do this by analysing the headers, but we have a customers who doesn't believe what we are telling them.
Is there some kind of 3rd party service or script that we can point them to? So they can send an email to the service (or paste headers, or whatever) and it tells them who is the sending mail server hostname/ip?
(The problem is that this customer doesn't understand that all email sent from the server uses the same SMTP server hostname/ip. They are convinced that if they connect to "mail.their domain.com" then this is what is reported as the sending mail server/IP.)
Here is what happened:
We have been running our web/ftp/application/mail server for about 4 years, and running flawlessly. This week one of the computers in the network was infected with a virus that was sending spam like crazy. We got blacklisted, as per this site mxtoolbox.com. Our domain is affordablerto.net. Since then we have isolated the problem, klilled the virus and are no longer blacklisted. But we are not able to send or receive any emails now. I wrote mxtoolbox and there reply was basicly "We can get you up and running if you pay us". I called our ISP and they stated that the ports(25) are open. When I do an smtp diagnostic from mxtoolbox I get the response that Argument 'Length' must be greater or equal to zero.
When I go to dnsreport and input our mail server (mail.affordablerto.net) I get ERROR:
The parent servers say that the domain mail.affordablerto.net does not have any NS records (although they may have some other information on that zone).
When I put in our mail server under mail test I get this Getting MX record for mail.affordablerto.net (from local DNS server, may be cached)... There is no MX record for mail.affordablerto.net! That's bad. Checking for an A record... Got it!
When I put in our domain I get this...well I can not put a link in yet - the software here says I need to take 5 posts before I can link anything. Go ahead and try it yourself.
I am not sure what most of this information means. I am in contact with our DNS provider and they keep on trying to sell me some solution. So does mxtoolbox.
I don't know what to do.
how I can see all the mail's adress sended by a site that I have in a vps hosting;
the site is in php and run on apache; panel is directadmin; is there some log file? or is necessary some software?
Alright, so I apparently messed up my email. I downloaded my email folders from my previous host's mail folder through FTP and then uploaded them to my new server's mail folder thinking it'd be an easy transfer. Yeh... didn't work, now I can't get my email through Outlook 2003 or ThunderBird. Any ideas on how to reset my mail server? I don't know if it's just the mail folder that's messed up or what.
