We are a small non-profit (High School PTA) and would like to sending weekly newsletters to our parents who are paid members and have provided an email address on their membership forms. Although we have about 2000 members, our list is about 800 subscribers. We expect this to max out at about 1500 over the next year or two. The newsletter is produced in MS Publisher and is sent as an ‘email message’ through outlook. Looked at email services – afford them right now.
I am looking for a hosting company/service that will allow:
1. Maximum deliverability -we have issues with Comcast and AOL. Surprisingly, yahoo and hotmail have been fine.
2. We do not want opt-in – we want to be able to add addresses. We tried yahoo groups but I kept battling parents who would let invitations expire and ask that I resend or those who requested that I ‘just’ add them because they had already provided their address or because are not email savvy enough to follow the links! Yahoo groups limits the number of address on their ‘free’ list and you can add only 10 members per day. This was fine when we had only 100-200 but cannot do this with a growing list.
3. Need to way to ‘manage’ the list – meaning see which email address received the newsletters successfully, which ones got rejected by individual’s filter, which ones were blocked by the providers, email address which are no longer valid, etc. Currently, I have no way (that I know of) to get this information. I do not know PHP scripts or cgi-bin scripts – am willing to learn if there is a simple tutorial here on the forum.
4. All other needs are minimal.
I have a customer that would like a list of their email addresses including all aliases and forwarders. Is there an option to export email addresses to CSV? I can't seem to find anything in the control panel and I dont want to copy and paste 300 addresses.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just started using CPanel and am transferring clients from 1and1.
With 1and1, I had to set up a subdomain (mail.domain.com) and then set the Mx record to mail.domain.com and the A record to the IP. Then I pointed the domain domain.com mail servers to mail.domain.com.
Can you walk me through it using CPanel?
I know how to do this by analysing the headers, but we have a customers who doesn't believe what we are telling them.
Is there some kind of 3rd party service or script that we can point them to? So they can send an email to the service (or paste headers, or whatever) and it tells them who is the sending mail server hostname/ip?
(The problem is that this customer doesn't understand that all email sent from the server uses the same SMTP server hostname/ip. They are convinced that if they connect to "mail.their domain.com" then this is what is reported as the sending mail server/IP.)
Here is what happened:
We have been running our web/ftp/application/mail server for about 4 years, and running flawlessly. This week one of the computers in the network was infected with a virus that was sending spam like crazy. We got blacklisted, as per this site mxtoolbox.com. Our domain is affordablerto.net. Since then we have isolated the problem, klilled the virus and are no longer blacklisted. But we are not able to send or receive any emails now. I wrote mxtoolbox and there reply was basicly "We can get you up and running if you pay us". I called our ISP and they stated that the ports(25) are open. When I do an smtp diagnostic from mxtoolbox I get the response that Argument 'Length' must be greater or equal to zero.
When I go to dnsreport and input our mail server (mail.affordablerto.net) I get ERROR:
The parent servers say that the domain mail.affordablerto.net does not have any NS records (although they may have some other information on that zone).
When I put in our mail server under mail test I get this Getting MX record for mail.affordablerto.net (from local DNS server, may be cached)... There is no MX record for mail.affordablerto.net! That's bad. Checking for an A record... Got it!
When I put in our domain I get this...well I can not put a link in yet - the software here says I need to take 5 posts before I can link anything. Go ahead and try it yourself.
I am not sure what most of this information means. I am in contact with our DNS provider and they keep on trying to sell me some solution. So does mxtoolbox.
I don't know what to do.
In my documents I have command:
# mysql -uadmin -p`cat /etc/psa/.psa.shadow` psa -e "select name from domains" | grep -v 'name' > domains.txt; while read i; do echo $i; /usr/local/psa/bin/domain_pref -i $i | grep nonexistent; done < domains.txtClick to expand...
Alright, so I apparently messed up my email. I downloaded my email folders from my previous host's mail folder through FTP and then uploaded them to my new server's mail folder thinking it'd be an easy transfer. Yeh... didn't work, now I can't get my email through Outlook 2003 or ThunderBird. Any ideas on how to reset my mail server? I don't know if it's just the mail folder that's messed up or what.
