OpenVZ - Allocation Failed: Out Of Vmalloc Space
Dec 3, 2007
Got a slight problem on my development OpenVZ server, it has been working 100% up until 2 days ago when I did a restart.
I have 5 VE's (id 201 - 205), I was able to run all 5 will ample resourses spare.
Now I can only run one at a time...?
I checked the logs and get this
Dec 3 18:16:17 localhost kernel: allocation failed: out of vmalloc space - use vmalloc=<size> to increase size.
Dec 3 18:16:17 localhost kernel: VE: 202: stopped
Dec 3 18:16:17 localhost kernel: VE: 202: failed to start with err=-12 ....

Warning: Unknown(): write failed: No space left on device (28) in Unknown on line 0
Warning: Unknown(): Failed to write session data (files). Please verify that the current setting of session.save_path is correct (/tmp) in Unknown on line 0
I am getting this error on my site. I have googled this error and it is telling me it relates to a /temp/ folder of some form. I am currently on a hosting plan (not a dedicated server). Is there ANY way I can access to fix this problem either from my control panel or by code?

How could I check the amount of CPU allocation I have on my VPS
Currently I have a VPS 1GB 50%CPU,
not what I would say is fast or can do sitemapping, I would like to be able to benchmark, as my small vps seems better and is 1/3 of the price

Q1: You've got one server with 8MB RAM. You offer a single VPS plan with 256GB guaranteed RAM. Does this mean that you are limited to exactly 32 VPS clients on this machine? (Or 8 clients if you had a single 1MB plan.)
Q2: On a single Virtuozzo machine, again with 8MB RAM, do providers typically mix and match plans on the same box? In other words will they typically put their 1MB clients on the same box as the 256MB clients?

Is there a program for linux that exists to troubleshoot memory allocation problems?
I am bound and determined to get this to work..I think I need a new direction..a new tool to use to figure out what's going wrong.
This is on a vps server...yet I feel this post belongs here..since this is extremely technical in nature.
I have already become an expert of kernel settings...and that really has not helped terribly.

I got this from a client I host:
We get this message on our forum (arcade section)
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to
allocate 131375 bytes) in
/home/XXXXX/public_html/forums/sources/classes/class_display.php on line 482
Before I look into that, is it a server problem (my responsibility), or a problem with the client's forum software (not my responsibility).
If it's something I have to fix from my end, what do I do? I've never encountered that error that I can remember.

I just signed up to a new VPS server with 640MB RAM guaranteed and 2GB burst RAM..
Here's what I've got on my privvmpages:
Soft Limit: 524,288
Hard Limit: 655,360
I stumbled upon this thread (webhostingtalk.com/archive/index.php/t-466457.html) and realized that I only get 512MB guaranteed RAM instead of 640MB RAM as written on their specs..
Is my calculation all right?.. or did I miss something here..

I just moved data centres here in the UK. I've paid for a 47U rack with 8amps of power. I plugged everything in and the meter is reading 8.9 - 9.1 amps. Seems fine at the moment, should I be worried about it tripping or is it just a case of if they find out they'll hike my bill up?

Our company currently has colo in NY, UK and Geneva and have recently started to rent some space in an Australian datacentre.
In each of our existing centres we have a /26 range of IP addresses assigned to us (62 usable IPs) and we requested the same for our Australian installation.
The colo company has email us today with our IP range allocation and they seem to have chosen to allocate us 12 seperate /29 ranges (6 usable IPs).
This seems really strange to me, is it normal practise? Why not just assign us one /26 as requested.
Also, our WatchGuard firewalls only accept one range in the configuration and then you add in all of the IP aliases seperatly. If I set a the IP range to bigger than the range we own (to cover all 12 seperate ranges we've been issued) would this cause problems for the people that own the other IPs in this large range?

Im getting this error when i try to create a package for a client. As far as i can tell, everything is set up properly. Its located inside my WHM area, but the billing software wont create the account and gives me:
Package Not Allowed or Exceeded Resource/Account Allocation
but i have no resource or account allocation settings set. everything is wide open.
My second question is, if i want to give someone unlimited bandwidth/storage, how do i do that? ive tried -1 and 0, but it keeps kicking it out as not valid. any ideas?

ProxyPass /Share Documents http://partner2/Shared Documents/
But Apache will not start with spaces. I tried
ProxyPass /Shared%20Documents http://partner2/Shared%20Documents/
Apache would start but the passthrough doesn't work. What do I need to do? I have several url's with spaces.

I am being told that when a VPS in openvz hits the maximum ram assigned to it that openvz disables that vps.
Isn't the ram limit a hard limit that simply restricts the available ram to that container to XX ram?
Is this normal?

Just how it actually works? I have a pretty good knowledge about Xen and Linux KVM (somewhat about VMware as well). Prior to joining WHT, I rarely heard about Virtuozzo and OpenVZ.
I'm just interested in RAM usage actually. I also read on some threads that you can oversell storage and net bandwidth as well? That just seems a little weird to me.
I also used a fairly good amount of Solaris Zones as well.
Example, if I have a 8GB box and I leave some, say 512MB, reserved for CT0. 8192-512=7680 (I know the ACTUAL RAM amount will NOT be 8192), that leaves 7680MB use for CTs. So technically in OpenVZ if you dice out dedicated 512MB VEs... you end up with 15 right?
So you are able to sell more than 15 VPSs on a 8GB server box? If also set all burstable RAM to 1GB for all VEs.
In Xen, when you set dedicated RAM it is taken away from dom0, period. That's all there is to it, no oversell (Xen 3.3+ you can use ballooning to overcommit RAM, I know).
Within CT in VZ, user is able to check beancounters to see the guaranteed/burstable RAM. Technically you can't lie to the users.
I researched around... when oversell in VZ and the RAM gets maxed out... VZ will try to slow/stop/kill processes in order to keep the guests happy, to me that's just dangerous. Why needs to kill processes for RAM saturation?
Anyone can shed some lights for me? Or point me to an article(s). It can be technical, I should be able to grasp.

I am trying to create some vps using openvz but after creating the vps with the Centos basic template 304mb i can't ping the ip and i can't view the centos welcome page in my browser (using ip and not domain, so i don't need to change there anything yet) and the most important is that i can't connect to the vps using ssh
I aks for many good users about my problem but i don' found a solution yet.
I ask my DC about ip's and they told me that the ip's are routed in my server.
I follow this instructions:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda1 50G 2.8G 44G 6% /
/dev/sda3 198M 21M 168M 11% /boot
/dev/sda5 408G 2.4G 385G 1% /vz
tmpfs 1012M 0 1012M 0% /dev/shm
I follow this:
I disable selinux by editing /etc/sysconfig/selinux and changing the line to selinux=disabled
and then run:
I just login using ssh as root and run the folllowing commands.
Did i have to move to another directory to run them or ?
setenforce 0
wget[url]
Next i open /etc/grub.conf
vi /etc/grub.conf
and change default=1 to default=0
Then i add the ip's at the pool and create a plan and then create a vps without any errors but nothing.
I try with my DC resolvers or the 4.2.2.1 4.2.2.2 but nothing.
I alo add at the settings the gateway with no results at all.
After all i can't ping the ip that the vps got from the pool even ping it and not possible to connect to it using the ssh Sad

When you're creating VPS container, you can ssh with that IP and login with your username and password correct? But, what is the problem when I successfully created a VPS, and when trying ssh into it, I can't. Ok, here we go. I want to create a 2nd vps and will be using it as my DNS server. I enter a set of IPs into HyperVM's IPpool. First IP: x.x.x.178 Last IP: x.x.x.182 Resolv Entries (space Separated) : Gateway (IP): x.x.x.x.177 NetMask: 255.255.255.248
Then I created a vps resource plan. And then I created a VPS and it use the first IP from above. I want to connect to SSH and want to make it as my DNS server but seems the IP are not responding, it wasn't even live. So, what is the problem here? Where I did wrong? Just to let you know, I successfully created 1 VPS before that and it works without any hiccups. Got even whm/cpanel installed as well on it. The thing that I suspected is that my DC pulled the IPs off me and assigned them to other server. Waiting for their reply on this though.

recently I got a VPS from cheapvps.co.uk and so far so good. Im getting used to the VPS enviroment. I tried to follow several guides about how to secure with noexec and nosuid the /tmp and /var/tmp and it did not work.
in http : / / www . webhostingtalk .com/showthread.php?t=474681&highlight=tmp points it must be done from the hosting. Same is said in http : // kb . swsoft . com/article_130_648_en.html.
I asked the hosting to do it and they told me as I got an Unmanaged VPS they cant do it for me.
Do anyone know how can be done ? I dont want to use tmpfs as it uses main memory.
