We currently have a OK solution to monitor and graph our client bandwidth at the switch port. It's a great product, but we have been expanding quickly and we are looking for a solution that is a bit more scalable and user friendly. Any recommendations?
Basically we want software to do the following:Monitor/log bandwidth in/out Graph data in some way shape or form Provide a web interface for users to login and view bandwidth usage Scalable and cost effective Easy to use Windows or Linux
If you don't feel comfortable divulging what you use, just PM me. Also, we are already aware of MRTG.
I am looking at picking up a switch to mess around with at home. I found the following within driving distance but have no idea of which one will give me more up to date, hands on experience. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

I have 2 racks in a DC that cross connected together. Now, the datacenter gives me 1 port and I would like to put 1 switch at each rack. I have successfully set up 1 switch and connect to the internet. But, I am unable to set up the other.
I'm switching my colo and I currently am going to be hosting in my own colo; therefore I'm going to be switching IP addresses for all my servers.
I have a cisco switch, an APC and a few servers ... I know how to change the IP addresses within linux, but I do not know how to assign them within the switch.
Does anyone know how to do this?
Also, since I'm changing everything, does anyone know if the gateway IP address on each server has to be changed? If so, then how do you do it?
This is probably an easy and simple task for someone that have a good knowledge in Cisco, BGP and Blackhole/Synchole communities.
We do have a Cisco 2948G that is our border and through this equipment we apply Blackhole (a sequence of commands to filter all the traffic from the world except our country, this is done by communities that is setup in cisco).
These are the sequence of the commands to apply it for IP 189.1.XXX.40 Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z. asw-hl01(config)#router bgp 184XX asw-hl01(config-router)#network 189.1.XXX.40 mask 255.255.255.255 asw-hl01(config-router)#exit asw-hl01(config)#access-list 50 permit 189.1.XXX.40 asw-hl01(config)#ip route 189.1.XXX.40 255.255.255.255 Null0 250 asw-hl01(config)# I have another Cisco 2948G that is connected in a FastEthernet port of the border above, and this other cisco is holding another subnet. To make it clear, Border - I have 189.1.XXX.1 ~ 189.1.XXX.127 (subnet 255.255.255.128) Cisco2 - I have 189.1.XXX.128 ~ 189.1.XXX.255 (subnet 255.255.255.128) This is being done through a ip route from Border to Cisco2 to forward subnet 128 ~ 255 to the switch, ip route 189.1.XXX.128 255.255.255.128 172.16.1.2 Ps: 172.16.1.2 is the internal IP for switch2 Now we go to the problem. If I want to apply a Blackhole (those sequence of commands for an IP located at subnet 128 ~ 255 switch2) it block all the traffic for that given IP, and I cant get access from national backbones. To make it clear, Blackhole for IP 1 ~ 128 - It works fine Blackhole for IP 128 ~ 255 - It doesnt work correctly, instead of blocking only international traffic its blocking everything in the world
I recently acquired a 2950 switch brand new, this is now on production but I needed several things to be setup on the switch such as SNMP, setup an IP to access it over a browser, etc. etc.
Do you know somebody who offers a setup service for cisco switches?
Since now I utilize Cisco 2924 in my racks, now I am going to install a new rack and I want to know if to install again 2924 or you recommend me 2950? what important differences (pros and cons) offers the 2950 front to 2924?
the datacenter where are located my server have a Cisco 3560G 48 port, seem that we have a problem when we add on a port as secondary 5 subnet, it hangup and not all the ips work, the datacenter tech say that can be a bug and 3560G dont support more that 4 subnet as seconday per port is this true? when we have remove the 5th subnet all the ips work fine.
I saw a one port KVM/IP switch, simply a little case that fits in your hand, with 2xPS/2 ports, a VGA and a network output (it didn't even require an extra power input, although that isn't a requirement). I remember it was about 55 euros (about 80USD).
Does anyone remember such a little small thing? I can't find that catalogue anymore.. If you find one with a USB port for virtual media (like 32MB..)
different 48 port switch for a rack. Any recommendations? We are currently using an old Cisco 2948G which has about 30 of the ports being used and pushes around 130mb at maximum peak through its ge port.
Its got nothing special running on there other than SNMP (if you can call that special) so guess that is my only basic requirement other than its an managed switch. Reason for change? Found a nice Cacti script to monitor the switch's CPU and its hitting 1.0 solid at peak periods in the evening which looks (well to me anyway) as 100% CPU usage which can't be a good thing.
is it just me or does windows firewall in Win2K3 randomly decide to block SNMP ports?... i have over 30 servers runnng Win2K3 and out of the blue yonder today 3 stopped reporting snmp data ...... the windows firewall was turned off and ICS services were not running but still ports 161 and 162 were being randomly blocked ... so now i add ports 161 & 162 to the FW and it all works but when i disable the services to be free of windows firewall ports 161 and 162 get blocked again and snmp is down [back to square 1]... so simple solution is to leave windows firewall enabled & ports 161/162 enabled rite?
SNMP enabled thermometer, hopefully one capable of reading both inside and outside temperatures. A fair bit of Googling only turned up the Poseidon 1140, which apparently is not available in the US. I figured that someone here has to be using something like this in their DC.
I'm starting to think they don't exist. I can query a networked OfficeJet (inkjet) via SNMP, but very few of the fields from the LaserJet MIBs seem to match. I can tell that my .1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.3.9.4.2.1.5.2.3.1.0 is at 247, but that's not terribly helpful.
I can't be the first to run into this, though? They've got to be out there... Somewhere.
how much time to Activate a Vps im order one whit virpus in the morning Im pay the VPS but i don´'t have any message, I send 3 Tickets to sales and no response, and whit Support say i need to ask to sales.
I registered my domain with domain.com several weeks ago. Then, when I tried to get web hosting services! but I had the worst experience over the internet by professional internet company.
Anyway, the issue is not that, I did lost my money with this company but I did manage to purchase web hosting services with another web hosting company (webhostingpad.com).
However, now I am stuck with how do I manage to activate my web address at (domain.com) to be directed to my website at (webhostingpad.com).
I tried both companies support with no respond at all.
So, My question is;
What is needed to do now:
How do I activate my web address over the internet?
How to make this address point to my website at webhostingpad.com?
How to make my address shows in all search engines?
