Multiple VPS Setups

Apr 30, 2007

I was hoping to get some feedback from those who have used multiple VPS setups in their hosting environment.

ie: One for a dedicated Web Sever, one for a MySQL server another for an Application Server, etc.

If you are or have used this kind of setup, what kind of performance did you experience?

Any other pros and cons?

DirectAdmin Name Server Setups

Apr 2, 2009

Having some trouble with Direct Admin name server setups. This is the first time we are using Direct Admin, and we are coming from cpanel.

Here's the situation;

Since I can't ever seem to get a hold of DA's support staff till the next day, I will ask yet again; here.

I am a bit confused on how to setup the name server IP's in DA. Here is our situation...

We currently have a cpanel server, which we are migrating from to our in house DA server. On the DA server we have 5 IP's. They are as follows;

eth0 = 75.99.56.xx3 - main server IP for apache
eth0:0 = 75.99.56.xx4 - ns1
eth0:1 = 75.99.56.xx5 - ns2

I want to setup a reseller account for jvs-hosting.com as it's what we have all of our customers under now. I then want to add them back under jvs-hosting.com. I also want the name servers to be the same for any new resellers we may add.

ZONE.Net Slow In Setups.

Sep 17, 2007

I am not sure if this is there normal practice or not. Ordered a server over 24 hours ago, and it still hasn't been set up. (Vm200).

Posted: 09/16/2007 20:30 Hello Tom,

Your VPS has finished installing cPanel, at this time we are waiting for the license to activate. It should be within the next 30 minutes or so, and you will receive your welcome email with login information.

Regards,

Richard
ZONE.NET
30 minutes has turned into 6+ hours.

I advise against Zone.net if you need your setup asap or don't mind waiting even if you're on their managed plans. If you don't mind the wait and the 30 minute turns into "HAHA just a time so you can shutup" type of replies, then go ahead and sign up.

Plesk 11.x / Linux :: Multiple Email Certificates For Multiple Domains?

Nov 11, 2014

I have two domains as virtual hosts on same IP address.

I am getting certificate error for the second domain when I try to check email (using MS Outlook). I can't permanently "accept" certificate, it complains again and again. Certuficate I created and self signed for imap.domain1.com, but the second email server is imap.domain2.com, so it complains.

How do I set separate email certificates for two domains? Is it possible at all?

Apache :: Multiple Error Codes For Multiple Pages

Depending on where u are at on my site (documents pages, training, main root, etc.) will depend on which type of background, footer, header and the like you'll get. Now I was thinking. Is there a way to have multiple error messages for more then one page depending on where you are at on a site? Right now it's intranet site and a modded snitz forum. What is the code and were does it go and in which apache conf file(s) does it go in?

Multiple IP Hosting...

Apr 27, 2009

I am looking for a multiple IP hosting solution for our network of 10 sites. Ideally I'm hoping to find a host which will allow me to consolidate all of our sites within one control panel, but be able to offer each site to be hosted on a unique class-c IP so that we can enhance the benefit of inter-linking between sites.

If you can suggest a solution beyond www.seohosting.com that would be fantastic.

Multiple IP Addresses...

Jul 7, 2008

Have been hosting with Site5 for the last few years, and have been very happy. I have a number of websites, it's easy for me to add another one (the domain points to a subfolder but the address acts like a 'real' domain if you type it in), they have everything I need and are cheap.

The downside is all my sites share an IP address. I'm either looking for some hosting at a few dollars a month tops (shared is fine) with PHP / MySQL, or an account that give me the ability to add as many domains as I'd like, and if necessary, give them all unique IP addresses.

Basically, I'm just looking to protect myself from anyone doing a reverse IP check on the domains. I suppose the ideal situation would be one where I could control / see stats for all my sites through one control panel, and just have the ability to buy another IP address when needed, and if I don't need to, share one IP with multiple sites...

I guess worst comes to worst, some cheap but reliable hosting (with someone that isn't going to mess me around or fold in 6 months time) where I'm going to share an IP with another few hundred sites would be acceptable...

A Multiple WAN Router

May 17, 2009

I am looking for a good router which will handle two separate WAN connections and bridge them together. Basically, we have DSL at our office (1.5mbps down / 769kbps up), its the only service we can get, cable is not offered, and a T1 inst fast enough and costs too much. We require a faster connection, doing Skype, VPN connections to servers, desktop sharing etc.

Basically we want to order another DSL line 1.5mbps down / 768 kbps up and join it together with our current DSL connection for a total of 3mbps down/1.5mbps up.

Just want to make sure this is possible and if you guys can recommend a router brand and model. To clerify, we don't just want redunacy/fail over, we need to utilize both DSL connections at the same, as if they were one.

Multiple Servers

May 19, 2009

I currently have 2 web servers both running the cPanel Control Panel.

Out of the two servers only one is used and the other is just used currently to test scripts. It has come to a stage with the website capacity that I now require both servers to run in con-junction with each other to spread the load.

Questions:

1) There is a file upload service, How would you go about networking both the servers to allow remote removal / uploading of files to different servers. Eg, If user is on server 1 and files are stored on server 2. Also deletion of files etc - The website is programmed mainly in PHP.

2) File updating - The website is constantly being updated and therefore both servers will need the PHP files to be in sync. How would you go about doing this?

Both servers are at the same Data Center location.

Multiple Sites

Feb 22, 2009

i currently have 2 webhosting providers but want to consolidate to one acct at one host with a bit better load times...

1. JaguarPc - i have two accts with them

a. i have a shared acct with them currently - i believe its called the gigadeal (something like $10 a month). i have been with them since 2000, pretty decent host not too much downtime. support is "ok" when needed.
currently i have 3 smallish websites hosted on this one acct, they dont get a lot of traffic. two of them are using wordpress one is just a static html site.
i did a look up and found the server has about 130 sites hosetd on it. so not too bad in regards to overselling. however my big problem is the site takes about 900-1500ms to generate a page. this seems to be pretty often. again the sites dont really draw that much traffic. so thats not the problem here.

b. i also have one of their freedom vps accts with upgraded ram and bandwidth. i only have one site hosted on it. this site used to get about 500K+ unique visitors a month. at its peak we were serving around 1tb bandwidth a month... i know we ran the vps hard but considering we wanted to stay under $50 it worked well. there was of course some downtime due to the massive traffic - [we serve up a popular flash cartoon website].

2. Hostgator - babygator plan
this host only serves up one wordpress site - the site isnt very well known yet, but the site is growing each month. the funny thing is that when i looked up this server there was about 830 websites hosted on it - obviously oversold and crowded. support really sucks here imho. however, the page load time is anywhere between 250ms to 500ms a lot faster than JaguarPcs. which is crazy since jag has much less sites on the server...
im looking to basically consolidate the websites that are on both shared plans. my original thought was to keep them all on my shared hosting acct at jaguarpc (the one with the 3 sites). obviously i cannot add them to the vps since its pretty active. also the vps is business and the other sites are all personal. and i dont want them to mix so to speak.

i am currently spending about $20 a month between the two shared host plans. im looking for some recommendations as to where to move -- where speed isnt such a big problem, and i can maintain one acct. it would be great if i could host these sites all for around $20 - hopefully without much lag.

was thinking mediatemple - but after reading so many negative posts here about them - im not sure...

Multiple Servers - DNS And NS

Jun 17, 2008

I currently have two servers, one is rhel 5 with cpanel, the other is windows 2003 with plesk 8.4

Each server wants you to setup a Hostname... one that is FQDN but not being hosted on that server so I setup a generic dns domain as follows...

SERVERCODNS.COM

Now for the hostname I setup both servers to be use this domain but different prefix... so...

SERVER1.SERVERCODNS.COM
SERVER2.SERVERCODNS.COM

Is this ok? Will I have problems?

My cpanel continues sending me emails nightly that my DNS is routing to another ip?

which bring sup my next question...
Is is ok to NS1.SERVERCODNS.COM, NS2.SERVERCODNS.COM for say the RHEL server and then DNS1.SERVERCODNS.COM and DNS2.SERVERCODNS.COM for say the windows? Is this going to cause problems?

Whats the difference or proper procedure for setting up DNS with my registrar (*ENOM) vs in the control panels they have Nameserver tools?

I have it on 2 different servers.

This is because if the first server goes down for whatever reason, i dont want the site to go down.

To get this to work, is it just a case of adding more nameservers to the domain?...

becuase this doesnt seem to be working... the domain seems to always resolve to the server that is listed last in the list of nameservers...

Does IIS 5.1 Allow Multiple Web Sites On XP Pro

Just getting started with IIS on Windows XP Pro. One thing I have a question about is why don't I have an option to 'create new website' when I right click on the Web Sites node? Am I only allowed to use Default Web Site? Also, I know it's not a rights issue because I'm logged in as administrator.

I'm looking at IIS on our server which has Windows Server 2003. On that machine I can create multiple web sites by right clicking on the Web Sites node? Is this just not an option with XP Pro?

VPS For Multiple Sites

Nov 12, 2008

I currently have few websites hosted for few of my clients over different hosting providers which include from godaddy to other small hosts. I have been thinking about switching them over to a VPS.

After reading lot of threads on the WHT forum, i have decided to stick with wiredtree.
Now for the questions.

1. Wiredtree is a managed VPS server right? that means they install the OS and apache and other applications that are essential to running a site. (not talking about blog software and stuff just basic server software)

2. Do i need to have a Reseller software that lot of them are providing for billing and stuff? I bill my clients myself and take the money upfront. There are no monthly billing and stuff. I dont want to sell the hosting to anyone else then the clients that i pick. Keeping this in mind do i still need the above mentioned software.

3. If i dont get the reseller software for billing and stuff, can i still host multiple websites and have their own control panel and stuff. Basically i want to give every client a username and password where they can log on and add/remove mail accounts, create ftp accounts and etc.

4. If i dont have the reseller software can i still specify different configurations options for different clients, like client 1 has 4gb of space and 50gb of bandwidth?

Multiple DNS Entries

Mar 16, 2008

I have been searching through threads on WHT, but have not found anything really conclusive regarding this.

If I were to list two A records for the same domain name on my nameserver, such as:

www.mydomain.com -> 123.234.123.234
www.mydomain.com -> 234.123.234.123

How would most browsers handle this?

Would it only try the first entry, or would it try the first entry, and if the specified IP is unavailable it would try the second entry?

Multiple Domains On A VPS

We recently started renting a VPS through them that claims it can handle up to 100 individual domains, but we have been having problems. Most of the sites are 7-8 pages of content, a few all flash, and some with flash headers.

We have approx 20 domains currently running on this VPS but the sites are down a lot or take forever to load (5 minutes).

CD-ROM On A USB HUB For Multiple Servers

Jan 31, 2008

Has anyway come up with a way to have several servers connected to one external CD-ROM on a USB Hub/network? This could allow a few external CD-DRIVES to handle a whole rack and the possibility of setting the bios via KVM/IP on a server to boot from CD, then it would boot from the CD tied in on the USB "network". Maybe using a USB hub? Or would this cause possible security issues having multiple servers tied in via USB ports?

I would love to have the ability to have maybe 3 or 4 CD-ROMs tied into multiple servers for OS installs remotely without having to actually go into the DC for this. You could put the CD-ROMs on your APC reboot and just turn on the one you need and set the bios to boot from CD (ie: one drive could have CentOS, one could have Windows, etc)
I'd be interested in some ways people have done this or what they use.

Multiple Server Managment

Jan 22, 2007

I currently own a few web hosting company's.

Where i seem to be having trouble is that i have allways used Reseller accounts to run my business. But recently this month i have purchased My own Servers.
I currently Own 9 Servers in total. So when it comes to Actual Server Managment im running into a brick wall lol

One of my business's invlolves Free web hosting.
And and I have been using one server for the free web hosting clients.

The problem is that sigle server is Maxed out I cannot add any more accounts to it withought jeperdising its stability.

This service Not only inlcudes Free domain hosting but sub domain hosting as well.

So now that you know a little background on what im doing heres the question

We use Client Exec as our billing and Auto Account Creation and we know its possible to Add multiple server to Client Exec and we can tell it to creat new accounts on anouther server But what hapends when someone wants a subdomain?

Its my understanding that subdomains can only reside on the server that the actual domain is being hosted. Is this right ? or is there a way to creat subdomains of a .com on anouther server where is not located...

Also i was wondering if it was possible to join servers together in one whm?
So under Ip Adresses we could just specify a new Ip & server would this work ?

I really need help fast since i get an average of 90 sighnups a day. and im sorry if theres a simple solution to this.. Im just new to actually owning my own hardware instead of using someone elses.

to me it just doesnt make any sence and i know it needs to be possible somehow ..
