Where i seem to be having trouble is that i have allways used Reseller accounts to run my business. But recently this month i have purchased My own Servers.
I currently Own 9 Servers in total. So when it comes to Actual Server Managment im running into a brick wall lol
One of my business's invlolves Free web hosting.
And and I have been using one server for the free web hosting clients.
The problem is that sigle server is Maxed out I cannot add any more accounts to it withought jeperdising its stability.
This service Not only inlcudes Free domain hosting but sub domain hosting as well.
So now that you know a little background on what im doing heres the question
We use Client Exec as our billing and Auto Account Creation and we know its possible to Add multiple server to Client Exec and we can tell it to creat new accounts on anouther server But what hapends when someone wants a subdomain?
Its my understanding that subdomains can only reside on the server that the actual domain is being hosted. Is this right ? or is there a way to creat subdomains of a .com on anouther server where is not located...
Also i was wondering if it was possible to join servers together in one whm?
So under Ip Adresses we could just specify a new Ip & server would this work ?
I really need help fast since i get an average of 90 sighnups a day. and im sorry if theres a simple solution to this.. Im just new to actually owning my own hardware instead of using someone elses.
to me it just doesnt make any sence and i know it needs to be possible somehow ..

I remember back a few years ago there had been several companies providing server support only on mostly linux systems. I remember e.g. there had one been where one had to pay a monthly fee and could then send them support requests...
I am hosted at EuroVPS from my reseller. I have noticed that my disk space has high usage 150MB whereas real usage should be around 30MB. Then I tried report service which stated disk usage is 30MB and Log report is 120MB. I said no problem let delete those Log files where I bumped to a problem, Log rotation is disabled and there is no X (delete button). In few years I could reach to maximum disk usage and disabilty to upload files and etc..
What to do now? I don't have password for support at EuroVPS since I am not reseller and my reseller isn't replying).
I have a managed server at LiquidWeb, but my backup server solution is also through an individual with a LW server that will be staying with LW. For uptime, I believe I want to move my primary server to another company/datacenter and stay with the backup solution I have at LW.
It seems Rackspace would be one obvious choice for maximum uptime to allow for everything in one spot, but at first glance it will be more expensive than a server at Softlayer + hiring a company to manage the server. (I definetely need managed and while I'm no expert, it seems you'd then have a better network)
I guess my question is about which companies (if any) would specifically be better to manage a server at Softlayer? If anyone has this type of setup, have you ever experienced problems because the server/management are not interconnected? Does this solution have any effect on the response time to fix a problem over an all in one solution?
I have two domains as virtual hosts on same IP address.
I am getting certificate error for the second domain when I try to check email (using MS Outlook). I can't permanently "accept" certificate, it complains again and again. Certuficate I created and self signed for imap.domain1.com, but the second email server is imap.domain2.com, so it complains.
How do I set separate email certificates for two domains? Is it possible at all?
Depending on where u are at on my site (documents pages, training, main root, etc.) will depend on which type of background, footer, header and the like you'll get. Now I was thinking. Is there a way to have multiple error messages for more then one page depending on where you are at on a site? Right now it's intranet site and a modded snitz forum. What is the code and were does it go and in which apache conf file(s) does it go in?
I have 1 server so I setup dns as ns1.mydomain.com, ns2.mydomain.com ip address pointed to server1. So, now I just bought another server. Can I setup ns2.mydomain.com pointed to 2nd server. Also how to setup more servers ie. 10, 20 server because I can only set up to 6 dns in one domain name.
I have an exchange server with the webmin interface activated. I have port 80 forwarded on the router to this server for the webmin. Management wants to upgrade data service and move website server in-house.
So this is how I'll need to set up 2 websites on two servers for the same IP.
Server 1: Windows. accepts domain mail.domain.com
Server 2: Linux. accepts www.domain.com
I'm figuring I'll need to make changes at the router level, and I have a decent cisco router. What do I need to do? Point me in the right direction for googling.
Would it be easier to use 2 IPs? Both would come over the same line, how would I handle that on the router level?
i currnetly use no-ip to host my website from my home server, with windows server 2003. I was wondering if I could use two hosts at once. If so, can you recommend some free ones, subdomains are ok.
I have one server right now and will be adding a second server in the next 4-5 months. In the meantime I've upgraded the coding in my community site to act as if there is already two servers. Mainsite.com has all the php files, and a separate HD for mysql db only, [url] has all the user images and videos.
This problem I'm having right now is the permission to delete files from [url]via [url]
What I've Tried:
vsFTPd - it has a small footprint but its not reliable, needed to be restarted a few times while testing on the beta site.
usermod - this is messy, changing chmods, owners, grps... etc I tried all of that but still had problems getting the Mainsite to be part of the group without having to change all the chmods and grps.
NFS mount - haven't tried yet...
Does anyone run a multiple server site? My sites pretty big been around for 4yrs, and i've upgraded servers 3 times since then.
If i can't get this to work right my final option would be to continue to upgrade to a new server each year, everytime a bigger and faster server setup becomes available.
Current server Dual Xeon 5310 4gb, 3 x 146gb scsi/sas. The server is doing fine with this setup. But with the new site uprade and features it's going to top things out. I can keep throwing ram on the server and move mysql off site.
The site has little over 1mil users with about 60-70% of them being active daily...
I have 3 ips to be used, I have used 2 for the nameserver in registrar.
I have total of 3 ips, which means, I have to place my domains via dns template to the server. Actually, I have set all my domains to a single ip, leaving the 2 ip's which I used for the nameserver to be empty (doin nothin :p)
SO, can I use 3 ips, for the 3 sites, ip1 for site1, ip2 for site2, and ip3 for site3 ? Will this make any difference in the site load and time?
I am sure they have to b set up with dns templates which I can do Wanted to know what would be the end result of my query
We require a server with 10+ IP addresses (Each one with a separate OS and external IP Address, i.e myip.dk)
This is to be used as an added security level for our employees logging into our system from outside the office. Our system monitors the IP Address and we need to restrict access to certain items depending on the IP. We basically would like to set up multiple VPS on one server.
Can you confirm how this would work?I know we can buy a Windows VPS for around £15, but we need multiple of these (10-20)and figure our own server might be the way forward.
There are lots of hosts who can give you IPs on different blocks. You should easily be able to find one hosting account that can do this. Of course, you'll need to get a low-end dedicated or colo server to do that, but the IP address thing is no big deal. With the money you would be spending, you're well within the range of a low-end dedicated anyway.
Hi Eric,
I know this thread is old BUT...
This comment interests me a lot, and I hope that somebody can clarify for me that does 50 IPs on one dedicated server require multiple routers (like 2x IPs per router?) to manage all of the IP's communicating with the dedicated server?
Our dedicated server runs our virtual machines for us and the NAT option is terrible...the virtual machines work REALLY well when they use a Bridged connection. The problem is that our virtual machines have to acquire an IP address somehow, and the hosting provider we currently use says they only give one IP address to our server which is fine if the NAT within the software worked really well...is there a webhost that can provide a setup where they have a router hooked to our dedicated server so if we need more local IP's they can be given/assigned by the router. This would then allow us to run our virtual machines much better. Does anybody know of a dedicated server host that will do this?
I am starting a small template based company. How many unique websites in their own unique folder can I host on a single server?
These websites would not get many hits, maybe a few hundread to a few thousand a month per site. My goal is to minimize the number of accounts I will have to open up with a web service provider.
Should I purchase 1 package per site or is there a way to get around this. Each unique site would have its own unique domain.
We're running multiple cPanel-based Linux boxes now, and are looking for a simple way to distribute our basic system files across all boxes. No important low-level files, just the basic cron job bash scripts we run on all servers etc. This would also be a help for syncing these shared files across to new boxes we bring online.
Does anybody have any recommendations for a simple file distribution system for this purpose? Ideally it would run as a cron job rsyncing the files across.
It may just be easier for us to write our own script for the purpose, but thought I should ask if there was anything off the shelf
I have a client that has multiple domains, is there a way of pointing multiple domains to one server? Right now, their site is on their old server, and I was wondering how they configured it? So if you type in www.mysite.com or www.mysite2.com, each show the respective domain. (i.e. www.mysite.com/aboutus.htm is the same as www.mysite2.com/aboutus.htm) I have a (DV) with (mt). I created a cname to point to www.mysite.com (where the actual NS are pointing to) is this correct?
I work for an ISP providing service to several thousand customers...
We are now taking on multi-millions of emails everyday (sometimes over a billion) (we purchased a couple of smaller ISPs and moved them to our mailserver)
Since the move from their old servers to the new... our uptime on our pop3/smtp server ran about 11... we had to institute a mail filtering server... it was getting around 2500 concurrent connections to the server and running an even higher uptime, and delaying emails around 8 minutes per message!
Our POP3/SMTP server is Redhat 9 (I know its old, but it still runs good) (Dual Xeon 2.8 HT 2 GB RAM NO RAID)... our frontend filtering server is FreeBSD (Dual Xeon 3.06 2 GB RAM RAID5)
Needless to say our current setup cannot handle the amount of email being processed... We need to implement amavisd back into the filtering equation so that spamassassin will filter mail based on the user preferences and delivered to procmail to our POP3/SMTP server so that it has no load basically...
SO what I want to do is this (please correct anywhere im going wrong):
I want to have a main incoming mail processing server (does RBL rejects and anything left over it will pass on to another server)
But the kicker is, I want the mail processing server to do this (we will call it mx1.troubledisp.com):
Incoming Mail->mx1.troubledisp.com
mx1.troubledisp.com->mx2.troubledisp.com (But I want 3 servers in the middle, mx2, mx3,mx4)
Basically I want one message to go to one server, one to go to another, and so on... So basically EVERY message that comes in will go to a different mx server, not just loading up 1 server until it cant process anymore....
Then after it is processed it needs to go to the original mail.troubledisp.com
Our servers has been updated recently and my site is not working properly. It was working before the server change. When I click on the links, it doesn't update correctly, instead it gets the last cached data. I have to refresh each link for it to update which shouldn't be the case. I'm a front-end and have no access to servers. Could this be server-related?
I currently have one server with multiple domains on it. I run apache with virtual hosts.
I want to setup email forwarding such that:
Email sent to <anyone>@aaaa.com ----forwards to----> <some email address> Email sent to <anyone>@bbbb.com ----forwards to----> <some email address> ... Email sent to <anyone>@xxxxx.com ----forwards to----> <some email address>
Any pointers? Im not even sure what to search for on the net.
I need some expertise on how many servers we need for our site. Basically it is a flash interactive game where a heavy user might download 60-75 megs in a one hour session. Our hope is that we get lots of users, say around 1000 users an hour. Our current server is a AMD 3800plus dual core with 1 gig of ram. It is hosted through Aplus. I am just the programmer for the project and don't know anything in regards to servers, but my client wants to know if one server will be enough to handle the load of 1000 users an hour. Or should we run on multiple servers, etc.
I am setup in a co-location facility. I just recieved my new SonicWall TZ180 which I am trying to setup.
Previously I had my server connected to the internet drop via a static ip address assigned via windows tcp/ip (1.1.1.2), nothing special there. Then I used Plesk and assign domains and ip addresses as normal.
My co-location facility gives me 4 static ip addresses, lets call them:
1.1.1.2 1.1.1.3 1.1.1.4 1.1.1.5
And an ip address called Network Gateway at:
1.1.1.1
And DNS ips at:
2.2.2.2 2.2.2.3
I am trying to figure out how I make this work now with the SonicWall. I am using Plesk, and I have already assigned all DNS settings and name servers to their proper static IP address, such as:
So I cannot use the local ip address (192.168.168.2) assigned to the server box by default by SonicWall using DHCP. I must use the actual static ip addresses assigned to me and already configured in Plesk. I have heard I need to use NAT, and assign the SonicWall the ip address of the network gateway: 1.1.1.1, then add the 4 standard static ip addresses into a pool in the sonic wall.
I found out the ips that were being used to attack my server, but I don't know how to block them. My provider (Limestonenetworks) will not block them from the main router because they don't believe in blocking traffic. Is there a way I can run a firewall that could block the ips? The windows firewall does not have an option to block ips. Last question, if I was to install a 3rd party firewall, it won't lock me out of the server right?
My main website is a dating/magazine/community site.
I use server ONE for as my main server for:
nameserver mail apache - php mysql
This server uses FreeBSD with CPanel/WHM Server ONE load averages are about 1-1.5
A year ago I got another server (server TWO) to host a php chat script, and unload the main server. This server hasn't a domain attached to it and I'm using it through its IP.
This server runs: apache - php mysql
And it also uses FreeBSD but with Webmin.
The load averages for Server TWO are about 0.20.
Recently I transfered all the images of Server ONE to server TWO, with a good result for loads on server ONE.
What I want to doSome users of the site complain that they can't see any images of the site due to IP based images src.
So I want to set up a redirection so images.example.com to redirect transparently to the other server.
When I tried to setup a subdomain redirection through Cpanel, I just got again the IP of the other server.
Who can this be done?
If I must setup DNS stuff in server TWO, in order to achive it, can I use it also as spare nameservers for the domains hosted on Server ONE?
What else is easy to transfer to server TWO in order to unload server ONE?
