Hello guys, I have been a longtime lurker (too long ) and I look forward to becoming an active member on the site... I am still in the process of researching a reliable web hosting company. It has been a blessing and a curse to have so many choices. I plan to host multiple ecommerce websites (5) and will need SSL encryption. I have looked at Hostgator as a possible candidate, but their business package has just one dedicated IP address... If I am running 5 seperate ecommerce websites, will I need 5 seperate dedicated IP addresses in order to utilize SSL for each individual site? My suspicion is yes due to security purposes... Also what are good SSL certificates? RapidSSL appears to be a cheaper one, but is it the same as other certificate issuers? Or is buying certs equivalant to buying domains; just but the cheapest ones.... Thanks again guys... Just curious on what my options are. I'm "starting" out and testing the waters so to speak so a dedicated server or higher cost solution is out of the question yet. I would like to find a good quality shared server hosting plan with a reputable company who doesn't overloard servers for profit.... Any ideas what you guys would recommend with the above mentioned... ixwebhosting appears perfect for my needs due to the fact you get 8 dedicated IP's (so they say), but I have read nothing but bad things about them + the price is too good to be true... When I hear the words "Unlimited" I want to run.. Unlimited and Cheap... LOL *rolls eyes* Want quality, fair price, for the above mentioned items...

Wildcard SSL For Multiple Dedicated IP Addresses
I have a small webstore with a SSL encryption for securing the site. But the SSL certificate is setup for the www.somethingstupidurl.com, and not just somethingstupidurl.com. The www.somethingstupidurl.com is validating well, but I get the warning of a possible "bad" site on the somethingstupidurl.com (not validating). And I know a wildcard SSL will fix this. But I was wodering about is if I can use multiple servers with with several dedicated IPs? I have several subdomains which I would like to secure, but bying SSLs for each will be more expsensive than a wildcard. These subdomains are also located on several servers that have their own dedicated IPs, and I would like to be sure a wildcard would be the right thing to go for.

Domain.com Or Www.domain.com For SSL Certificates
I'm setting my first eCommerce site and right now I need to resolve the following issue. I need to install (well, the hosting company will do it for me) a SSL certificate and I need to know what is best or common practice, to use domainname.com or www.domainname.com I don't know what difference it would make but it seems to do so because the hosting company is asking me to choose. Being that I'm clueless about this, I would also appreciate a quick explanation on the benefits or downfalls of using either one.

Multiple Domain Transfer
I have some domains I need to transfer, some of which erquire hosting and some of which require just to be held temporarily. I looked at quite a few hosting companies, but I found out .co.uk domains can only be transferred by EU companies. The sites aren't too big, but I would require PHP, MySQL (ideally unlimited databases), emails, etc.

Basically, our goal is to have our own store for Lean Bulk, but it will be run by a different company, and will be on their server. Soo, the store database and custom script will be staying on their server, but my forums will be staying on my server. What I want is for the store to be located at [url]or [url] Either one works for me. However, the tech guy that runs all the stuff for the store, is trying to tell me that this is "impossible." While it might be somewhat difficult, I have a hard time believing anything is really impossible. Multiple MX Records For Same Domain Email
Right, I have my email address (say email@domain.co.uk) connected to my DirectAdmin controlled server. I have an the simple email services provided by 1and1 that I haven't used for ages. I am a bit confused how multiple MX records can be used, so far I have edited my DNS record file for domain.com to look like this: Code: domain.co.uk.14400INMX5mx00.1and1.co.uk. domain.co.uk.14400INMX10mx01.1and1.co.uk. domain.co.uk.14400INMX0domain.co.uk. If im not mistaken the above show the email server domain.co.uk is connected to (domain.co.uk) is the primary server, with 1and1 2nd and 3rd. However if I changed the priorities all to the same value, i.e "0" would that mean the mail is delivered to all? My ideal solution would be, if the primary server was down, send mail to secondary, but that leads me to another problem. When I want to check mail with Thunderbird its connected to imap.domain.co.uk and not imap.1and1.co.uk, so the problem now is mail split over two servers....! I would like a redundant system, to ensure email is online 99.999% of the time. So my question is, what are peoples current solutions with multiple MX records, and how have they achieved 99.999% uptime of emails.

i have soon to be very busy site. it's a simple "school grade" searching website. giving your identification code and returning your exam grade. i try to put a dedicated server and within 5 min it hung. it was last year. this year i try to put to 3 or 4 shared hosting and do a round robin dns. but the problem is 85% traffic is from the same ISP and it will cache the dns result.

i just got this ssl certificate but i have some doubts how exactly should i set up the whole magic. i created the secure.domain.com which suppose to be the sub-domain for the login page which means when user decide to sign up/login to immediately transfer to the ssl state(sample: see ebay.com and then their https login page). so, far the home page which is domain.com(or www.domain.com) it doesn't need to be covered by the ssl. so, i was just wondering how do i play the game? i know it's kinda tricky and the key is somewhere in the sub-domain name(cP set up), .htaccess and/or index.php files but not very clear to me.

VPS Account With Multiple Domain Setup
I have a VPS account with WHM/Cpanel console access. I have three domains that I am trying to setup. Within WHM I have setup three different accounts, one for each domain. I am able to login to the cPanel for all three accounts. This also created a new web directory for each domain in /home/domain_name/public_html/. I have placed my default index.php in all three public_html with the same permissions. But only 1 domain is working the other two are not. What am I missing? I have confirmed that all three have the correct DNS servers with godaddy and I can do an nslookup on all three. My provider told me to share the IP so that is what I am configured as..

Keeping Multiple Domain Names Separate
How can it be determined that multiple domains are "affiliated" with each other? For example, at the link below, on the left side of the page it says that yahoo.com, yahoo.net, and yahooligans.com are owned together. Does this mechanism use WHOIS records, or does it use the IP addresses to which each address resolves (which would only get sites that use named-based virtual hosting to the same IP address, right?) [url] If people run multiple sites, say personal and business, and they don't want them to be affiliated, how can they make sure they can’t be linked with each other through such mechanisms?

SSL For Any Domain Hosted On Single Server
is there any sort of ssl certificate that will 'secure' any domain, hosted on a single server? For example, I have the following domains and subdomains: google.com test.google.com mywebsite.com hello.example.com All will be hosted on the same server (same IP) and I want all to be secured, through a SIGNED certificate, not a self signed. I assumed that wildcard ssl would be fine for this, but I just took a look and it's only for subdomains: example.example.com hello.example.com. Is there any way of having every subdomain and domain secured, using ssl, through one certificate? I don't want to have to buy individual certificates for every domain, that'd be... expensive.

I would like to create an SSL website for parts of my domain. I have a few VPS's one running cPanel, the others running just Webmin. Now I have managed to install SSL as I can login to WHM/cPanel using the secure port fine. Also I have installed SSL on the Webmin VPS's as I followed www.webmin.com/ssl.html which tells you how. However I would like to get sections of my website secure i.e secure.mydomain.com would be HTTPS, and the rest of the site just normal HTTP.

1 SSL Cert... 1 Domain... 2 Servers. How To Setup A Backup Server
We have two in-house servers, one is hosting our public web server. The other one was just purchased to host a mirror of the production server (as a backup). The site is protected by an SSL cert... my question is how do i set up the server(s) so if/when the backup server needs to be switched into produciton, the SSL cert will transition flawlessly? How Can I Isolate Applications
I have a problem with applications on my server. There is this osCommerce application for a customer installed, but how ever he forgot to change the user and pass for the admin panel. (changed right now, fortunately) so we had a hacker attack from that domain, actually we think that we had it from there becase we found a file like sex.php which sould not be there. With that php file, hacker change all index.php files to "hacked by ". So we finally understood that we cannot overcome the hacking problem because of those client mistakes, but we can isolate the applications. But how? That is my question, how can we isolate applications and not let them change other applications files?

How To Host Custom Applications
We'd like to host an application that will be controlled through web access at a specific port. We also want to control the amount of data traffic on a per user basis. How can we do this? Can we bind a specific server IP : Port to a user and control the data from that. How can we make sure that only one user access one server IP and Port and so cancel user overlapping (one user finds out another IP and Port and uses that). Applications In A Chrooted Shell
On one of my servers, i created a chrooted shell environment in order to give out shell accounts, however i am wondering which linux commands i need in order for users to compile,install and run software like "eggdrop". I already added the most basic stuff, like "make, gcc, cc" but that does not seem to be enough. When i execute "./configure", it ends up in an endless loop which can only be ended by a root account.

CAC/Smartcard User Info Not Accepted, Must Use Domain Usr/pwd Instead For SSL Site
Having an issue with random individuals trying to access an intranet site with a security certificate. Most users are able to simply select their Smartcard/CAC certificate, enter the pin number and then are granted access to the site's pages. However, random individuals enter their pin and then are immediately re-prompted by the IE alert dialogue to enter their domain username and password. If they don't enter their network domain username and MS password, then they receive a 401.1 Unauthorized. I am confused as to why these certain users (who are selecting the same certificates as the successful ones) are being prompted for their domain name/pwd. Furthermore, they're able to access other sites which require a CAC to get past the security certificate. Possible that a user token is unable to be established via a CAC for the particular site, but not sure why. Since these users are getting a 401.1, then somehow their identity associated with their CAC credentials is not validating. In IIS: Anonymous users are not allowed (unchecked). 128-bit encryption is required with SSL. Integrated Windows Authentication is checked. Accepting client certificates In the site's web.config file all users are allowed and only anonymous are denied. Developed in asp.net 3.5 We have tried to reproduce the problem in testing and development environments, but have fortunately/unfortunately been unable to duplicate this issue. This furthermore eludes to an issue that might be isolated to the production server, users access to it, and/or the certificate that is applied to that SSL website on that server. The exact same setup is present on the development box without any issues at all, indicating to me that the problem resides on the production server's ability to properly receive/handle CAC information from those individuals or that something funky is going on with the way the security certificate is relating to the client's CAC x.509 certificate. A little more information that may be of use: the browser prompt that initially asks for the CAC has nothing to do with the code of the site, but rather is enabled by applying the security certificate to a site in IIS; thus indicating to me that there is something written into the certificate that looks for client certificates tied to the ActivClient agent via the browser? The violating users' cards work on all other applications and even on SSL sites on other servers that bring up a CAC prompt. I believe we have confirmed that the certificates associated with their cards and their IE browsers are valid through 2015 (or longer in some cases), and are the same in nature (x509 certificate from the card)... and issuer is being consistently selected as DOD Email CA-15 (though the regular DOD CA-15 works as well). Again, maybe something with the fact that it's isolated to one production server, something with the SSL cert. on that url or user access? Then again, I probably have no idea what i'm talking about, just throwing a bone here to see if anyone has had the same issue or has any ideas.

Scaling PHP Applications /load Balancing Etc.
While I'm fairly familiar with running and serving Java applications (how they handle their load..etc) I'm fairly new "mass" hosting PHP applications. PHP has a lot of advantages though, for example it's a lot more stateless and you can run a lot of PHP applications on a server. [Windows Server 2003] Launcing Applications With PHP&IIS
I am attempting to use PHP on a IIS6 server to run console applications. There is no issues with my PHP code as it works on my own computer however it fails when tested on my Windows Server 2003 server. The script it designed to execute a command that runs the program however the program does not run. If I manually type the command in command prompt while logged in via Remote Desktop the application launches in a new console window. Could the problem be with the fact its trying to launch a new console window and since the user account its using is just a IIS account it can't create the console window? If so, without editing the actual program code or creating a service, how can I configure Windows to execute the program?

SSL And Non-SSL Files In Same Folder
My web host sets up public_html for http and public_ssl for https traffic. So, if I want my whole site to be secure, I place everything in public_ssl. However, I am using a shopping cart system inside a CMS. I want only certain parts to be secure - e.g. the last stage of the checkout procedure. At the moment, I can only achieve this by having two copies of the CMS/shopping cart, one in public_html and one in public_ssl. Whilst this approach works (at least from the shopper's point of view), there are lots of problems from a content management point of view. My host is of the opinion that "this is the only way it can be done". Is it possible to enable ssl on public_html, have a single copy of the cms there, and then switch between secure and non-secure mode as needed? If this is possible, can you provide me with a technical description of the setup that I can pass on to my host?

Proper SSL- Liquidweb SSL
I have a server qith liquidweb. Recently I'm getting the message.. host.domain.com used an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because it is self signed. Error code sec_error_untrusted_issuer Liquidweb is tell me I need an SSL certificate? I don't get it sicne I have a new server with them that doesnt get this error and another older one that doesnt get the error. OK find]e, whatever. I have free SSL's at namecheap from positivessl. Description: The remote service accepts connections encrypted using SSL 2.0, which reportedly suffers from several cryptographic flaws and has been deprecated for several years. Reverse Domain Name Server (DNS) ARPA For Domain On VPS
I have a vps with dedicated ip's for my domain names. I read that in order for mails coming from my server not be picked up as spam, i need to add reverse ip entries. Now i have already added the glue nameserver records on my godaddy control panel, ns1.mydomain.com -> 10.20.30.40 ns2.mydomain.com -> 10.20.30.41 But do i need to speak to the datacenter to add the reverse dns entries for my domain on their nameservers? What about if i host my nameservers offsite, but then have my webserver/mailserver etc inside the datacenter? Would i need to request the datacenter where the nameservers are hosted to add the reverse ip entries for the domain, and then the request the same from the datacenter for my web/mail servers to add the reverse entries? Is it really required?

Domain Parking - Wildcard Domain Name Server (DNS)?
We have a lot of unused domains that we'd like to setup domain parking for. To keep it simple, we'd like to just change the namesevers to ns1.domainparking.com and ns2.domainparking.com (not real nameservers!) and the domains would then automatically show a simple web page. Domain Parking With Win2k3 Domain Name Server (DNS)?
i have about 8 different domains i'd like to point to a nameserver (ns1./ns2.mydomain.com) on Win2k3 server, but i can't get them resolved through my nameserver without creating a manual forward lookup entry for each *parked* domain separatly.. Does anyone know how to resolve "parked" domains automatically on Win2k3 DNS?? I just can't find any answer for this, everything i've found required manual creation of lookup entries.. anyone?

32 Or 64bit & Existing Domain Net Vs New Domain
delving into a new server, a dual opteron w/Centos. Got two questions as I think about setup. 1) 32 bit or 64bit? 2) Regarding host names and server assignemt...I can either assign it as a node to a domain hosted elsewhere in a reseller account, or I can start with a completely unused domain which is currently parked. Any preference, in an ideal world? (I have absolutely no preference, but it occurrred to me it may or may not be of consequence, perfomance & IT-wise and generally speaking .. all things being equal, of course.) Like I said, a newbie. So I'm braced for the if-you-have-to-ask, you-shouldn't-be-in-one" musings for these rather basic boneheaders.
