View 14 RepliesWe use VS 2005 and are happy with the stability and performance etc but wanted to know if there are any great advantages to using virtuozzo? It seems that a higher ratio of VPS per box can be achieved with virtuozzo due to the ability to share RAM but is this worth it for the extra cost of licenses and possible security / stability risks?
View 0 Replies View RelatedI already have a great reliable Linux VPS from WiredTree. They are awesome service. Too bad they don't offer any Windows VPS.
Anyone have any suggestions for a good Windows VPS? I don't need it managed much. It just has to be secure and offer mysql. A panel would be nice but not really needed. Also I would like the VPS to have a good and fast setup time too.
i need windows Vps ( usa location prefer )
512 Ram
20 gb hdd
500 gb traffic
no panel
remote desktop access
very fast connection ....
I'm currently looking for a very cheap Windows VPS host, comparable to VPSland.com. Virtuozzo would be nice, and memory/bandwith isn't a big deal, price it the main concern right now.
If anyone can help, that'd be nice
(P.S. - Plesk/Virtuozzo are required to make it possible that you may access the VPS server via web browser only? If so, that would be a must.)
Let me start by saying that I'm a complete newbie (also known as n00b) when it comes to server administration, and such. However I'm curious about the licensing scheme used in Windows VPS envrionements.
Let's imagin that I have a box with only a very good set of hardware, enough to handle 10 windows 2003 VPS in it. Based on this, my questions are fairly simple and straight to the point:
What software do I need to make a box host 10 windows VPS? Is it just Windows Virtual Server 2005 R2 and Windows Server 2003?
What licences do I really have to pay? 1x Windows Server 2003 or 10x Windows Server 2003? (I've noticed that Windows VS 2005 is free to download so I erased that part of the question);
Simple questions for a knowlegeble guy, right? I figured...
Now, for the last set questions, let's say that I want to have a SQL Server 2005 standard in each of the 10 Windows Virtual Machines. How many SQL Server Licenses would I need? 10?
I got some question regarding MS virtual server2005 R2.
1. If i created an instance of Windows2003 in virtual server2005, if i screw up something. would it affect or crash my host server? I have a colo Windows2003 R2 standard server but it also host several websites that i don't want it to go down if i mess up the instance in vs2005. i believe it won't affect the host but i just want to confirm this. does anyone have problem with screw up guest OS taking down the host OS?
2. how about liscense? do i need to purchase an liscense of Windows2003 in order to run in virtual server?
3. how much RAM do you think i need to assign to it? my colo server spec. is AMD64 dual core 4000+ w/4GB of RAM. Do you think 512mb is good enough for the guest OS (windows2003).
I am trying many softwares for Windows Virtualization at the moment just for curious After using VMWare for 2-3 weeks I decided to try winVZ too.
But SwSoft Virtuozzo gives me this error on w2k3 Ent. 64Bit. What to do?
ERROR: {VZSRV} Virtuozzo API function call 'VZVolumeMount' failed openssh.efd
ERROR: {VZSRVAPI} Cannot install template openssh
Template(s) openssh,msde is(are) not installed.
Has the VZ bug where "doing a Windows Update on a node applies it to the whole server and then reboots the node" been fixed yet. We offer Linux VPS using VZ and was going to use it for Windows too but when I heard that I put the plan on hold.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI could see having problems with these vps's..if I was really doing something I am not suppose to. This is not the case.
I am currently having problems with two out of four vps's at the moment..and..I am appalled.
Take VPS #3. All I tried to do was install SQL Express and it's management component so I can slap smartersuite on there.
SQL errors..dot.net errors..this is a joke, right?
My 32bit VPS is completely unreachable due to the very same thing..all I did was put SQL express on it..didn't even get to the management part.
Of course I assigned a root password. Still...is this par the course? Are databases something these vps's can't handle?
I'd really like to know now..before I waste anymore time with this.
I certainly had none of this two years ago with my vmware winodws vps's. Anybody still offer those?
As many of you are aware..I have two of these from 1and1..and are quite enjoying them..and may even add a third to the fleet today.
Aside from no update thing..many of you have had misadventures with these I would care not to have. Are there limitations to what you can install? I remember putting Oracle on one before..and that worked fine (surprised me) and I have put Tomcat on a linux vps before..worked fine...even after I started seriously using it (which is sometimes when fun really starts) and it was still fine.
I am more intersted in using these to test CGI scripts..learn ASP and .NET..and whatnot. I guess my primary question is this:
Can these be used to test applications before trying them on a real server? How close to the real thing are these vps's?
If experience is useful..it would say pretty darn close to the real thing. I do need a Vmware based one, though.
Does anyone know if running centOS 5.2 as a host OS on a dedicated server would be able to run both Linux and Windows VPS servers using virtuozzo? on their video it says you can however i cant find where/how to install a windows server 2003 template.

Without any fanfare, at the beginning of September, Parallels released Virtuozzo Containers (formerly Virtuozzo) 4.5.
Version 4, launched in January, unified for the first time the Windows and Linux branches, introducing major new features like virtual SMP masking and support for Microsoft and Red Hat cluster services.
Version 4.5, which is built on this new architecture, brings in a wire range of new capabilities:
Enhanced resource management (CPU pools, vCPUs remapping on logical CPUs, offline vHD fragmentation)
Containers cloning
Containers startup order
Support for Windows Server 2008 (32/64bit, with or without Hyper-V, up to Service Pack 1) and its new Failover Clustering
Support for Hyper-V (it’s not exactly clear if this just means that the Hyper-V parent partition can be segmented in containers, or something else)
Support for TCP/IP Offload Engine (TOE) NICs inside the containers
Support for new 3rd party backup and anti-virus solutions (including the ones provided by AVG, CA, EMC, IBM, McAfee, Symantec and F-Secure)
Support for iSCSI inside the containers (a container can be an Initiator)
Support for IPv6 addresses inside the containers
It’s not entirely clear why Parallels didn’t promote in any way what is still considered its flagship product.
It is true that the large majority of the attention is focused on hardware virtualization, but the company OS virtualization platform should still have a competitive advantage over VMware, Citrix and Microsoft hypervisors in the hosting industry, which is well worth some more marketing effort.
We are wondering why Parallels haven't been shouting from the rooftops. This is a game changer.
I would like to understand what is the difference between VPS and a VDS. I understand they sound the same, however from a cost stand point VPS is way cheaper than VDS, and I am not very sure of the reason.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOk so I just installed apache 2.2 on windows server 2008.
I would like to set it up so if I go to 99.144.79.25(Server IP) I get index1.html. If I go to example.com which points to 99.144.79.25 I get index2.html. If I go to example3.com which points to 99.144.79.25 I get index3.html.
So kind of like, if the domain folder is not found on my server, give the page index1.html.
In the long run I want to run a bunch of sites with different domains, testing right now though.Â

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'll soon buy Virtuozzo with 3 VE on each server. I won't be selling VPS for now, but I'm planning to. The main reason why I'm doing this move it's because I want a good backup and fast recovery over problems and an easy way to do maintenance with almost no downtime.
Both servers will run one "main" VE within Virtuozzo, the other spare will be for testing and/or Live Move between them.
Both server that I'm running now are P4 2.8 GHz Dual Core, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB SATA, everything’s run fine!
I'm looking for a server with this configuration and I want you to tell me if it's good. (And if there’s anything I should change since it won’t work well in team)
1 x Supermicro SuperServer 5015M-T+ 1U
1 x Processor - 1 x Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
1 x Kingston - Memory - 4 GB ( 2 x 2 GB ) - DIMM 240-pin - DDR II - 667 MHz - registered
2 x Seagate SV35 Series 7200.2 ST3500630SV - Hard drive - 500 GB - internal - 3.5" - SATA-300 - 7200 rpm - buffer: 16 MB (RAID 1)
I’ll get this server for about 2000$CAD with taxes and shipping. I’ve looked at Xeon, but even with a low 5110, it’s pretty heavy in price!
What do you think (except that my English is bad!)?
