View 5 RepliesI'm trying to setup a VPN server on windows 2003 standard. It suppose to work like this if configuration is correct: the server will have 20 static public IP addresses, each of my workstations will use one of the 20 IPs to connect to the server, then connect to the internet with the same IP it connects to the server. So if I do a IP lookup, each workstation will show a different public IP but the server will always assign the same IP to the same workstation.
Now all my workstations can connect to the server with any of the IPs I have, and they can surf the internet with no problems at all. However, if I do a IP lookup, every workstation shows the same pubilc IP which is totally not what I wanted. I have searched google and not much useful infor come up. Can any of the experts here help me out?

We have a hub/spoke setup with our offices right now.
Main office has a Sonicwall VPN router that acts as a VPN endpoint, as well as the gateway/firewall for the office.

Hi guys! I have a VPN in a VPS and would like to move it together with other stuff that I do know how to migrate ( websites, etc, etc). I have not setup the VPN and its an OpenVPN on CentOS.

I have a Softlayer Windows 2003 server and it comes with two Network cards. I was wondering how I can create a VPN to the server and then access internet from there on. Our local ISP has blocked Skype and I need to VPN into myu SL server to use it.

So would any one know of a concentrator to work with nortel?...
In previous posts in this forum I was talking about having each server have an internal and external network connection but people point out that as they were load balanced it was a bad setup
I am now looking at setting up a VPN to access the internal servers that are load balanced. Does and one have any recommendations for good tutorials or sorftware that I can use on debian?
The Swedish parliament just passed a law mandating all information passing the Swedish borders to be copied to the government (no kidding). We wish to offer people VPN tunnels out of the country to protect their communication and therefore need:
* A location with good connectivity with Sweden (like somewhere in Europe)
* A location where traffic is not normally routed through Sweden (such as Finland)
* Lots of bandwidth
* Many IP addresses
* No storage space
* Linux
Where to turn for something like that?
I current have a VPS hosted with a host who rent racks from Gyron.net at Telstra Londong Hosting Center Datacenter (Docklands) and im very satisfied with the network but im looking to change hosts, so im looking to find hosting companies that also rent racks/network from Gyron.net.
So does anyone knows hosting companies that rent space/racks/network from Gyron.net?
I'm looking for a host located in UK that can accept/support vpn/tunnel connections to the VPS - creation and access to vps' /dev/net/tun (TAP/TUN device) for use with tunneling services like vtun.
I am currently a customer of webhosting.uk.com, they look very good host but unfortunately they dont accept or support vpn on their VPS plans.
The bigger the list of hosts supporting vpn, the best.
Maybe hosts of other european countries too, if connection speed is acceptable.
My new router ZyWall USG 300 supports IPsec, OpenVPN and L2TP for VPN protocol.
I don't know which protocol to choose! IPsec afaik is more compatible (windows supports natively), altough less secure. OpenVPN is more "friendly" to configure.
What is the best linux version to run a vpn server over vps?
I'm a bit confused ,what's the best linux version if i want to have a vpn server ? Does Centos 5 work?
I have a dedicated server with iWeb, but due to revenues being cut short, I'm in search for a new host. Possibly a VPS host that isn't expensive or a shared host.
Anyways.. I'm looking for a good host (nothing like the oversellers at Dreamhost) that would work for me.
I'd be hosting some domains-- about 10. Three are majorly active, 1 is moderately active, and the others are hardly active.
I've tried Dreamhost's shared hosting (along with a PS from them) and that night (my first night with them), their servers went down. HostRefugee, tried them, the server couldn't handle the load and was quite slow. (may be due to coding)
So yeah, suggestions? I know how to setup a VPS if needed.

View 5 Replies View Relatedi looking for the servers (powerfull and cheap) i take this post in vps forum 2 day's ago but i understand that it is better for me to take the post in dedicated forum my friend's :
1-vpn server(with many ip)-->with high transfer + good performance(for start)
2-server for starting image hosting (with high or unlimited transfer + 100mbps )+atleast 50_60gb h.d.d
What i'm trying to setup:
Internet comes in from modem into dual nic 1u server(DNS/DHCP/Firewall). It's getting an internet ip from first nic, then a private internal ip for 2nd nic. That 1u issues ip's through gig ethernet switch to 3 other servers from 2nd nic. Those other servers are dedicated for website, one for database, and one for email.
If each run win 2003 server ent, how can people access the email server if the only comp getting an internet ip is the 1u server, and same idea with website.
Also if people can access the website, how can the website server pull information from the dedicated database server if it's only getting an internal ip?
I'm thinking Microsoft Routing and Remote Access?
Attached is a (badly) drawn diagram of two sites, connected by a vpn.
The site to the left, is network 10.0.0.0/24 which runs a linux server as the router for the network.
The site to the right, is network 10.1.0.0/24 which runs a windows 2003 server as the router for the network.
Now, my problem is, the clients behind the windows 2003 server can ping any machine on the first network because i setup a static route to route all traffic to 10.0.0.0/24 over the vpn interface.
now, my problem is, only the linux server can ping any machine on the windows 2003 network, any client behind the linux server cant seem to route over the interface.
I have the following route on the linux server: .....
I already have a great reliable Linux VPS from WiredTree. They are awesome service. Too bad they don't offer any Windows VPS.
Anyone have any suggestions for a good Windows VPS? I don't need it managed much. It just has to be secure and offer mysql. A panel would be nice but not really needed. Also I would like the VPS to have a good and fast setup time too.
I'm currently looking for a very cheap Windows VPS host, comparable to VPSland.com. Virtuozzo would be nice, and memory/bandwith isn't a big deal, price it the main concern right now.
If anyone can help, that'd be nice
(P.S. - Plesk/Virtuozzo are required to make it possible that you may access the VPS server via web browser only? If so, that would be a must.)
Let me start by saying that I'm a complete newbie (also known as n00b) when it comes to server administration, and such. However I'm curious about the licensing scheme used in Windows VPS envrionements.
Let's imagin that I have a box with only a very good set of hardware, enough to handle 10 windows 2003 VPS in it. Based on this, my questions are fairly simple and straight to the point:
What software do I need to make a box host 10 windows VPS? Is it just Windows Virtual Server 2005 R2 and Windows Server 2003?
What licences do I really have to pay? 1x Windows Server 2003 or 10x Windows Server 2003? (I've noticed that Windows VS 2005 is free to download so I erased that part of the question);
Simple questions for a knowlegeble guy, right? I figured...
Now, for the last set questions, let's say that I want to have a SQL Server 2005 standard in each of the 10 Windows Virtual Machines. How many SQL Server Licenses would I need? 10?
I currently have a server at the planet, this server lost network conection a few hours ago, I have spoke to the tech who tells me that when he tries to access the network connection settings the server just hangs.
Can anybody give me something to try here as I realy dont want to lose the data on the drive and the only real option i am being given is to reload the OS wiping my data, and although he could access my data an back it up, it seems it is against company policy to do so.

I got some question regarding MS virtual server2005 R2.
1. If i created an instance of Windows2003 in virtual server2005, if i screw up something. would it affect or crash my host server? I have a colo Windows2003 R2 standard server but it also host several websites that i don't want it to go down if i mess up the instance in vs2005. i believe it won't affect the host but i just want to confirm this. does anyone have problem with screw up guest OS taking down the host OS?
2. how about liscense? do i need to purchase an liscense of Windows2003 in order to run in virtual server?
3. how much RAM do you think i need to assign to it? my colo server spec. is AMD64 dual core 4000+ w/4GB of RAM. Do you think 512mb is good enough for the guest OS (windows2003).
We are facing this weird problem from the past few days. Whenever we reboot the Windows 2003 Service, the server becomes inaccessible from the network or the internet after reboot. It is only after we run the sharedaccess.reg file available from http://windowsxp.mvps.org/reg/sharedaccess.reg and reboot the server, we can access the server remotely. But the same thing happens after rebooting the server again. We are also not able to start the Windows Firewall service. We get an error while trying to start the Windows Firewall Service. The screenshot of the error message is attached with this post.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIm trying to setup FTP on Windows 2003 Standard. Multiple people will need access, the problem Im having is how do I make it to where certain ftp accounts only have access to certain folders and certain ftp accounts have access to the whole root directory of that folder?
For instance under websitefolder you have a folder called bobsfolder. I want bob to login and just be "jailed" to bobsfolder, but when websitefolderadmin logs in they have access to the root of websitefolder and all its subfolders.
How do I setup a VPS on my Server?
It is Windows Server 2003.
