Is This Normal (server Load & Stats)

I have a webserver that our main two company websites reside on and this box also hosts ~50 other misc. websites. None of the websites on the server are very CPU intensive and bandwidth usage on the box is next to none.
Every morning around 4-6am the server takes forever to load anything. Seeing as this is when I do most of my work, I quickly become frustrated when trying to load our admin area, webmail, etc. Note that things do load, just very slowly...
I've contacted my tech a couple of times but he says this is normal as it's backups and stats running. I guess my question is, IS this normal? If so, is there a way to lessen the load at all?

a certain host I've been with for over 6 months now experiences what I would consider always very high server load. The server load is normally around 4-6ish, rarely below that. A few times a day it spikes to around 12ish, sometimes even more. The server has 4 cpus. Is this just some really big time overselling? They had downtime once for 2 days when a server crashed, and after that the server load has been really high, when before that it was normally around 1-2, and in the 0.50s

As for mine is:
Server Load 0.35 (2 cpus)
Memory Used 57.5 %
Swap Used 0.00 %
Disk /dev/simfs (/) 27 %
Also I am not getting why the swap on VPS is not used at all...

I have a server with Core2Duo E6600 CPU, 4 gigs of RAM and 2x250 GB HDD's. What is the "normal" load average I can expect having ~50 websites running on it with medium visits. My current load averages (and most of the time ones) are:
load average: 0.24, 0.13, 0.16
Is this "normal"?

I have an dedicated server 2 x Xeon CPU 3.20GHz (2GB RAM), now 30 minutes ago my admin tryed to make a benchmark test on it and after a period the server was not responding ( SSH or http.. ftp ) we asked DN to reboot the server. After the reboot in Service Status page (WHM) there ware many services down and the load was ~ 45.00 (4 cpus) .. after aprox. 5 - 10 minutes the load has droped:
Server Load 2.61 (4 cpus)
is it normal to have such a higher load 45.00 (4 cpus) after an reboot ? The memory used was 32%.

I have one server where cPanel WHM displays the load averages at the top right, but another server where it doesn't. How do I enable this? And what do the three different numbers shown (e.g. "Load Averages: 0.99 1.17 1.43") stand for?

I look after a number of sites and monitor their stats. We use both webalizer and AWSTATS so we can have a comparison. Up until recently the stats for both of them where relatively the same, webalizer usually showing higher numbers as it doesn't filter bots but the progression of increase and decrease in stats was proportional. However, over the last few months a curious trend is appearing, the stats in AWSTATS are decreasing every month whereas the stats in Webalizer are increasing, the gap between them now is huge.

Hi over the last week ive been having numerous problems with hosting accounts on 2 different servers which has lead me to think that my 'security' is not 'secure' and a malicious user is at play. im in the uk on broadband on a private connection to the internet - no-one else should be sharing this connection. I just did a reverse IP lookup for my newly purchased dedicated server and found out that the domain hosts two other domains, not owned by me.
By the way, I'm yet to updated the DNS address to point to my new dedicated server.

I have a dedicated server with few hundred domains on it.
How can I automate to view all traffic stats for all of the domains in the server. Currently, I have to manually view the popular domains one by one to see the stats.
Ideally, I want to view daily visitors/per domain by a email report. Is this possible via backend script/cron job?

Host will only update DNS in batches, takes several hours for a DNS change, is that normal?
Well today my mail stopped working and it turns out the A record for mail was deleted. How it got deleted I don't know.
I called my host and after speaking to 2 techs, they said that have added my request to a batch, and that would update in a few hours.
I said to him, batch? What can't you do it instantly?
He said thats not the way their DNS works and any DNS change would affect thousands of other sites they are hosting.
Does anyone know what kind of dns system these people could possibly have where they can not reload a single zone?
And by affected, I think he means the sites will go down for a minute or so, while it relaods every zone. Is this really the case, or are these people just idiots?

I'm having the oddest issue. For some reason, some of the websites on my server load fine, and some take a really long time to load (2 minutes).
Now, the server load is fine, and the size of the sites aren't the issue either. I've restarted Apache and a couple more services, and still the same sites seem to load very slow.
What could be causing this since it's only effecting certain websites?

Below are some results from various stats programs from one day's activity on our site. webaliser and awstats give sort of similar results (although still 6400 pageloads difference), but these results differ so much from what google (analytics) says.
can anyone think of an explanation for this? does google have a different definition of a visit compared to webaliser and awstats? for these latter two is visits = hits?
Webaliser 4000 visits, 17600 page views. Aw stats says 3800 visits, 24000 page views. google says 637, 1500 page views. adsense says 3,600 page views.

does anybody know if there is a possibility to circumvent godaddy´s pathetic stats they offer on shared accounts?
-I am not quite sure what tells you the unique visitors (always a good one to know )
-It doesn´t tell you what robots crawl your site. It just says: robots 28 (great!)
-The graphs are all reversed. Meaning that the now date is always on the very left hand corner of the x-axis towards the 0 intersection. This is pretty pathetic as it goes against anything human brains are accustomed to.
I´ve got to stop venting now. I would appreciate if somebody knows where I can find the unique visitors (hosts served maybe?) and how I can install a better stats program on Linux shared hosting at go daddy.

When I go through my AWStats under "Links from an external page (other web sites except search engines)" I see several domains that have linked to me. When I visit these sites they are generally porn and drug sites that do not contain a link. Some of the sites redirect you to other sites. When you look up these domain names they are all from Russia.
These sites account for mulitple hits as high as +14.5%. These sites do not represent the content on my sites.
My questions are.
How do I stop this? I have found banning IP addresses does nothing.
How are they doing this?
Can this lead to your site being blacklisted?
