Is there any happy The Planet dedicated server customers? I read sooo many bad reviews on here, yet they continue to be the largest dedicated hosting provider and are growing leaps and bounds.
So I thought I'd see if there were any lurkers here that are actually pleased as a customer of The Planet.
I've got a e-mail notification problem since i upgraded from Plesk 11.5 to Plesk 12: One specific Application Update for customer X is being sent to all my customers.
Last week we did have a problem with a busted customer portal. ( not customer X, plus still on Plesk 11.5 ) I fixed this by using this procedure: [URL] ..... Restored two records and problem solved.
As a temporary resolution we disabled Application Updates for our customers, but I do want that my customers receive Application Updates, but just the one where they are the recipient.
I don't think I've given my thanks to KH yet so here goes..
I've been with KH for over 2 years now and worked my way up from a regular VPS to a Hybrid VPS. Their costs are low for their high quality of service, product, and care.
They have always answered my tickets in a timely manner and been lenient in my times of financial crisis when I fell behind payments a few times. They even allowed me to keep my 10% lifetime discount when I upgraded to a Hybrid VPS just because I've been a member for so long. They also have scalability opportunities for members that need dedicated servers (which I will be moving to in a few months).
There really is no need to fatten this post up. Just take away from this that KH is the absolutely best hosting provider out there.

A month ago i was looking for a dedicated server to start a gaming community, at first i was looking for something cheap and simple, just for start and check how it was going until i get a better server.
Well, my first server with they was a Pentium 4, i've sent the payment on a saturday so i didn't expect an answer until the monday, and since they say at the website that usually takes 1-3 days to setup the server, i dont care too much about the time.
My surprise was, the monday at 7:52 GMT +1 i receive an email confirming the receipt of the payment, all ok, so i was like, ok, i must wait 3 days.
But no, 2 hours later another mail was at my gmail account with my login data, they had the server up and running in 2 hours when they say in the website that may take 1-3 days to complete the setup, that was a VERY nice start.
Since my gameservers was a huge succes, i have bough the server package with the Core 2 Quad Q6600 and 8GB of ram, same as above, they receive the payment and 2 hours later i was configuring my server.
Actually i host 4 Team Fortress 2 gameservers with 32 slots each, this morning with all the servers full the netgrap was reporting a 1-1.5mb/s continue data transfer rate and the servers running so fine.
The support team was very helpful, when i was thinking to get the quad server they have helped me about the SO choice mainly due the ram.
Also their Windows License offer is awesome, you dont pay the first 3 months of the Windows license, only a little setup fee (14€ for W2008 Web)

I just wanted to let you know that based on your recommendations I ended up with HostGator.com. The good thing I like about them is simplicity. I purchased an account and it was active VERY FAST. Compared to my previous experiences, this amazing. I was able to upload and start working with my space. They have a great interface with a cPanel link. They have a guide teaching newbies how to start they even offered tutorials on how to add my DNS using namecheap.com! which is my domain-name registrar.
The speed is excellent and I was using a webbased file uploader. I will check using FTP it should get faster. I have so many things to do to test their other features. I would definitely upgrade to their dedicated plan if I get a better bandwidth for their plan.
Conclusion: Great experience. Fast, professional and convenient. I recommend it.
I will keep this page updated if I get anything extra to add. Cons or Pros.
I see lots of bad reviews of Giga-International.
Is there anyone out there who are happy with their service, and can recommend them?

I have to tell you about my not so happy experience with Geekstorage.
Let me make it short:
Slow loads, there are hours where it's barely loading, from anywhere in the world, I've sent in 1-2 support tickets, but the only answer I got was that it should be okay again (oversold?), no concrete answers at all.
Right now, I'm having a DB Error on my forum, been so for the past hour or so, still waiting for a reply to my ticket, marked as High Priority.
Support: Slow, just plain out slow, I was assured to get my tickets answered within a hour when I spoke to their sales dude, sadly, they havent been able to hold their end of the bargain within that one.
Overall: They are good if you want to have slow loading websites, fly by the day support answers, and in my shoes, a DB Error on my forum.
I am looking for a new host, anyone with any good recommendations ? Pref EU location, but will also be able to live with a Texas based location.
Toward the end of August 2008, I published this review as that week I became a customer under the DedicatedNow service line. In it, you'll read that I was more than pleased with the service quality I was receiving across-the-board. I prefer the personal control of a dedicated server over shared hosting, any day.
It's been approximately ten months since that review. My opinion of this company has not changed a single iota since I started service. I have since obtained additional services, including Applicure DotDefender, and am researching off-site backup solutions with Josh in the sales team this week.
Performance has been unsurpassed. My single core P4 went about its business for almost 300 days, and the only reason I had to reboot, was due to my own fault, mis-typing 'ip route del /' and hitting enter before specifying the proper address & range to unrestrict. So yeah, the only reason I had a service interruption is because I hosed it my darn self....accidentally.
The times I do work with their techs, I'm met with the same personable, professional individuals I've been working with since the beginning. I figured out the issue I was having with cpmove.
Boil it all down: I'm still thrilled with these guys. I cannot recall a single disruption that wasn't caused by my own ISP, and I love the early email notifications during planned maintenance. Looks like the prices are a bit lower nowadays, too.
I haven't seen any reviews on these guys so I thought I'd contribute. I started an account with them last 5 or 6 weeks ago and had a great experience.
setup:
was very very fast. It literally took 2 minutes. I paid with paypal and the server was made by the time I got the setup email to my gmail account. I got a town plan mostly for my new blog.
control:
this is very important for me. I like to be able to reinstall the OS without opening a support ticket. vpsville does this very well, you can choose any Linux os you want and its setup fast!
I was also able to set the rDNS without opening a ticket. That was a nice change.
speed:
the server is fast, so fast it seems like a dedicated box sitting beside me. my ping time is only 10ms from my house (Toronto, Rogers network) so that might be part of it.
Low ping time
was very important for me as I will use it as a game server. compiling code on the server is really fast and so is yum or aptitude. apache loads pages quick. No complaints at all.
support:
really good. No complaints. I asked about lots of stuff and I always get a quick reply. I was having some problems with iptables and they gave me a firewall script that does exactly what i wanted.

I am not an employee nor affiliate of Sagonet but I wanted to recommend a really good service I've had to date from them. I've been with them for about two years now, and as a large number of my customers are US based, we require a US hosting presence. Being in the UK, it's incredibly helpful to be able to speak to a real technician 24/7 if required. The service uptime has been constant and their prices are very good. I would definitely have no problem recommending them and I don't usually say that.

I have had a dedicated server with Axishost for just shy of 2 years.
Before moving to Axishost, I had done the shared hosting account thing with a few companies and was never impressed with the performance or uptime. After realizing that most companies grossly oversell their shared servers, I decided that investing in a dedicated server was the best route for my company.
I recall researching and sending some 'test' helpdesk tickets to a few popular companies. None of the companies I emailed were very helpful. They just wanted to close the sale and sell me more server than I needed.
Tina @ axishost took the time to find out what my needs were and offered me a good deal on a dedicated box.
Overall, I just wanted a dependable server that I could put a couple dozen fairly low volume accounts on...have a company fully manage the box, and run a server that is Very reliable and fast.

My server is in Gnax/Atlanta and has done a fine job for 2 years.
Support ticket responses are always fast. If I put in an emergency ticket it is taken care of within minutes.
I am a happy customer, and I recommend Axishost to anyone looking for a fully managed cPanel server.
After a tech support advisor helped me with my problem on heart internet, I replied to them "Thank you and Happy Christmas".

I got NO reply. Surelly a little reply saying Happy Christmas back would not have hurt.
I mean after im paying them loads of money per month I would appretiate a bit of politness.

Maybe they're very busy? Well they should have an automated Happy Christmas reply system.

I just ordered a Dual Xeon 3.2, 4GB RAM, 2X 250GB SATA server from ThePlanet and it ...sucks. This damn thing doesn't even want to run a single UrbanTerror server ( which mind you is an 8 year old game that should be running like BUTTER on this system )every 5 minutes this thing lags out like you wouldn't believe, so it seems I'm wasting nearly 200 month on nothing but a web host now, which isn't something I need to do. ThePlanet of course doesn't support any of this, not that I asked them to, I just told them this box sucks and something is wrong, but they don't really care it seems, so I'm looking for another place, does anyone have any good recommendations ?
I have dedicated server P4 3.2 Ghz with ThePlanet for 4 years now. Since I want to upgrade a server I started to think if it will be good idea to change to the Rackspace.
They offer AMD Opteron 246 for pretty much same price I am getting my P4 3.2 Ghz at ThePlanet. Is it faster processor?
I do not need faster CPU, I want to upgrade Hard drive but if I am getting faster CPU it's good.
Several points here.
1. I can not complain about ThePlanet. Never had a problem. And whenever I had opened ticket they were answered in time I expected.
2. I need a good/fast network.
Should I switch?
I am going to begin a social network and for the beginning I just need 100 gb hard disk, 2 ram, 200 TB monthly. I need a web hosting with potential for big traffic and scalability in the near future.
I have read what people from big social networks have said about both companies and they can handle big traffic, though mediatemple has better ranked costumers than the plannet according to Alexa (I checked one by one of their big clients in Alexa.)
My website is going to be about video streaming, webcam streaming and other common things in social networks.
What do you recommend? Do you have a better company in mind that can handle big traffic and scalability?
My budget is between 500 up to 800 monthly?
I definitely like ThePlanet. They have good support and goot network.
But seems I need to know more from the world.

Does anyone know of any hosters that are reselling servers from The Planet or Softlayer (or anyone else is Texas that I've missed)
A few days ago my server started to receive a bunch of Input/Output errors. I scrambled all over Google to find out what the problem could be and most pointed to a failing hard drive.
I contacted ThePlanet roughly 4 hours after I first saw the problem and they recommended that run a few diagnostic programs on the hard drive to find out if there were any problems. I agreed and we picked a good 4 hour time frame to do the work.
Luckily for me this was the 2nd hdd on the server, but the downside was its a 200GB that I am using 165GB. So I tried to do backups and at about 35% done, the 2nd hdd became virtually unaccessible.
ThePlanet started the diagnostic at roughly 12:00pm PST and updated me nearly every 10 minutes on the progress. At 12:50 they indicated that the hdd diagnostic wasn't able to find any problems, then rebooted the server. I'm not sure what they did, but after the server came back up after roughly 5 minutes the 2nd hdd is working perfectly fine.
So i'd like to send out some praise as i'm very happy that the hdd is working again, and I'm happy with the updates and professionalism with ThePlanet.
I've had some rough times with ThePlanet, but the majority of my situations have been resolved in a timely and professional manner. Thanks again TP for saving my butt!
If I have to choose between ThePlanet and SoftLayer for a dedicated server which will be used for Shared Hosting, which one should I choose?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have partners down in Dallas, Tx. that are deciding on whether or not they want to go with "ThePlanet" datacenter. But, we just want to know before purchasing any or keeping any servers there that the datacenter is fully equipped with 24/7 monitoring, fire safety, flood safety, backup generators, etc. We're thinking of leasing 2 servers there, and we just need to know some details before going on. Now, I know there's all that information on the website and I've done alot of research on them, but I want to know from WHT's first-hand experience of ThePlanet is any good.
So, if you've used ThePlanet datacenters, can you please help me out. I'm highly suggesting ThePlanet as one of the datacenters I might use. Because it's located in Dallas, TX. it would be alot easier to co-locate the server, or check up on it once and a while or sort out any problems, etc.
Please leave a message of your first-hand experience with this datacenter.

We have contacted ThePlanet multiple times with DMCA requests to have a website remove illegal copies of our software from their website. The website is (*****.com *removed link*), and ThePlanet hosts them.
This issue has been ongoing for over 10 days, our original DMCA from them was ignored.
We resent another on Tue June 2, 2009, that one was responded to. Either no one from ThePlanet bothered to visit the warez website or they encourage warez on their networks because the website is still up; they initially removed links to our software but added new ones hours later.
We contacted ThePlanet again hours later with our email again to be disregarded. We sent another reply last Friday, ThePlanet responded back that our email was not in proper DMCA format; but do not bother to see the entire website is nothing but warez. Do these guys just not care that warez is on their network? I didn't realize the economy has gotten so bad they now cater to warez websites.
Visit the website and see that is has full ISO copies of Windows and other software, has full dvdrip movies and copies of games, as well as crack patches and keygenerators.
Why is it that ThePlanet allows these websites to operate and that their AUP is a total joke? Obviously if you want to distribute warez ThePlanet seems like the best place to do it.
We also hosted our websites on ThePlanet but intend to cancel service with them due to this issue. I encourage anyone that is a software developer and uses ThePlanet to also dump their service.
I have two dedicated linux servers with the planet and about an hour ago as I was testing a site on one I noticed it got terribly slow. I'm lazy sometimes and just assumed that I could fix the problem with a reboot so I went typed in the control panel address that ThePlanet.com uses for clients.
Behold, nothing. The site won't load and I noticed that theplanet.com won't load either. I am able to access my site still but its very slow, is anyone else noticing this? Is it a problem with my ISP?

I currently have a VPS and it's running out of breath. I saw a dedicated server package at The Planet for $69 a month (+$25 for cPanel):

- 512 MB RAM

I know these specs are enough for me right now but before I order, do you know some other web host that offers a similar package in this price range?
several years ago I came here to find a webhosting reseller account, you helped me find hostgator, who I have been mostly happy with.
The only issue I had was that they suspended me for a CPU TOS violation and it took me over 24 hours to get my site back online.
Once this was resolved, I was also resolved to move my site to a new dedicated server, (My CPU, My TOS) - so I went with the planet. I was a little put off by their verification methods, they wanted a copy of my DL and credit card - once I contacted them, and voiced my concerns, they told me that the image could be redacted (only last 4 of CC and no DL#) - then they went to work.
My server went online, with CPANEL installed - well I happen to have a friend that is a Linux guru - so upon his recomendation, we did an OS reload to straight CentOS 5.2. The reload was amazing - the datacenter did exactly what we asked, and within 4 hours, we had a brand new Linux box, clean and shiny and ready to go. ThePlanet kept me informed of the progress the entire time, and set the root password to exactly what we wanted - it could not have gone smoother....
Then...I moved the primary site to the new server and our load average skyrocketed (36,37,42) etc.. Hostgator was definately justified as my site must have been just SLAMMING thier box. Once the primary site was up, we did a memory upgrade (once again theplanet did this within an hour or so) at our request, the box was rebooted and we found that it STILL wasn't enough - so today I ordered an upgrade...
Today before 12 noon eastern time I ordered the new server, same OS and as I type this, I can see the new box is up, running and ready to put the penguin to work.
The moral of the story - if your website is becoming large (mine is 40,000 articles +) and Google is always a crawling - it's time to move to a dedicated server. Granted, you will need to know Linux, and you need to have a REALLY good grasp of it - but the question that convinced me to change is this - if you are doing web hosting, web design - isn't it time to learn linux - I have moved to kubuntu, and can not stand windows any longer -

how many hosts have been effected by the fire at the planet over the weekend?
Luckily i have just cancelled all my servers with the planet (moved to owned hardware in local UK Datacentre). My mail server would of been on the floor that was effected!
