What do you guys think of Cloud Hosting, and how this could affect current web hosting trend?

View 14 Replies View RelatedAlthough I only ordered my VPS a couple of days ago I felt compelled to make known my initial thoughts on cheapvps.co.uk.
My main reasons for going for cheapvps was not only the cheap prices, but also the fact that a2b2 (a sister company of cheapvps I believe) and Rus appear to have very good reps here on WHT. I spoke to Rus initially via live help to ask a couple of questions and he was extremely helpful which convinced me to make my mind up there and then.
The VPS was set up and going within about 3 hours which is very fast in my book (I didn't get access to it for a couple of hours more but that was just because of an e-mail hiccup causing me not to receive the welcome e-mail). The speed is amazing - especially for a budget VPS. The network is also extremely fast, and the fact I got the choice of it being in the UK was also a big bonus for me.
One of the things that really impressed me though was when I started hitting a couple of snags when running a couple of programs, including Postfix (whose developers decided it would be useful for it to use literally about 90 unix sockets). This caused a problem for the resource limits in the VPS for sockets. Also the kernel memory limit was causing memory allocations to fail as well.
No sooner had I contacted Rus again than the resource limits had been raised to something a little bit more suitable. This also needed to be done for the process limit and file limit.
Tickets are answered very promptly and you can also contact them through MSN which I have made use of a couple of times.
Through this initial phase of getting the VPS running nicely Rus and the guys have been incredibly helpful and accommodating in getting things sorted. I would highly recommend them to anybody looking for a low price VPS, and although I know this is only after the first couple of days I'm sure things will continue this way.
where you guys are buying server for colocation?
Any recommended sites?
looking for guys like directspace but who allow adult content
directspace.net so far is amazing 10TB for $99
however they do not allow adult sites.....real bummer.
im looking for something exactly like directspace but that allow adult content.
I don't think I've given my thanks to KH yet so here goes..
I've been with KH for over 2 years now and worked my way up from a regular VPS to a Hybrid VPS. Their costs are low for their high quality of service, product, and care.
They have always answered my tickets in a timely manner and been lenient in my times of financial crisis when I fell behind payments a few times. They even allowed me to keep my 10% lifetime discount when I upgraded to a Hybrid VPS just because I've been a member for so long. They also have scalability opportunities for members that need dedicated servers (which I will be moving to in a few months).
There really is no need to fatten this post up. Just take away from this that KH is the absolutely best hosting provider out there.
We have about 4 colocated server and more than 10 rented dedicated server in giga-international.com in about 2 years.
We really like doing business dealings with giga-international too.
Good business and more and more in the further with giga-international is our heartily idea.
Its very recommend datacenter in europe.
We are very happy to use giga-international.com services.
i want to post my experience with giga-international.
A month ago i was looking for a dedicated server to start a gaming community, at first i was looking for something cheap and simple, just for start and check how it was going until i get a better server.
Well, my first server with they was a Pentium 4, i've sent the payment on a saturday so i didn't expect an answer until the monday, and since they say at the website that usually takes 1-3 days to setup the server, i dont care too much about the time.
My surprise was, the monday at 7:52 GMT +1 i receive an email confirming the receipt of the payment, all ok, so i was like, ok, i must wait 3 days.
But no, 2 hours later another mail was at my gmail account with my login data, they had the server up and running in 2 hours when they say in the website that may take 1-3 days to complete the setup, that was a VERY nice start.
Since my gameservers was a huge succes, i have bough the server package with the Core 2 Quad Q6600 and 8GB of ram, same as above, they receive the payment and 2 hours later i was configuring my server.
Actually i host 4 Team Fortress 2 gameservers with 32 slots each, this morning with all the servers full the netgrap was reporting a 1-1.5mb/s continue data transfer rate and the servers running so fine.
The support team was very helpful, when i was thinking to get the quad server they have helped me about the SO choice mainly due the ram.
Also their Windows License offer is awesome, you dont pay the first 3 months of the Windows license, only a little setup fee (14€ for W2008 Web)
I just wanted to let you know that based on your recommendations I ended up with HostGator.com. The good thing I like about them is simplicity. I purchased an account and it was active VERY FAST. Compared to my previous experiences, this amazing. I was able to upload and start working with my space. They have a great interface with a cPanel link. They have a guide teaching newbies how to start they even offered tutorials on how to add my DNS using namecheap.com! which is my domain-name registrar.
The speed is excellent and I was using a webbased file uploader. I will check using FTP it should get faster. I have so many things to do to test their other features. I would definitely upgrade to their dedicated plan if I get a better bandwidth for their plan.
Conclusion: Great experience. Fast, professional and convenient. I recommend it.
I will keep this page updated if I get anything extra to add. Cons or Pros.
Is there any happy The Planet dedicated server customers? I read sooo many bad reviews on here, yet they continue to be the largest dedicated hosting provider and are growing leaps and bounds.
So I thought I'd see if there were any lurkers here that are actually pleased as a customer of The Planet.
I see lots of bad reviews of Giga-International.
Is there anyone out there who are happy with their service, and can recommend them?
Or is it all just bad?
I have to tell you about my not so happy experience with Geekstorage.
Let me make it short:
Slow loads, there are hours where it's barely loading, from anywhere in the world, I've sent in 1-2 support tickets, but the only answer I got was that it should be okay again (oversold?), no concrete answers at all.
Right now, I'm having a DB Error on my forum, been so for the past hour or so, still waiting for a reply to my ticket, marked as High Priority.
Support: Slow, just plain out slow, I was assured to get my tickets answered within a hour when I spoke to their sales dude, sadly, they havent been able to hold their end of the bargain within that one.
Overall: They are good if you want to have slow loading websites, fly by the day support answers, and in my shoes, a DB Error on my forum.
I am looking for a new host, anyone with any good recommendations ? Pref EU location, but will also be able to live with a Texas based location.
Toward the end of August 2008, I published this review as that week I became a customer under the DedicatedNow service line. In it, you'll read that I was more than pleased with the service quality I was receiving across-the-board. I prefer the personal control of a dedicated server over shared hosting, any day.
It's been approximately ten months since that review. My opinion of this company has not changed a single iota since I started service. I have since obtained additional services, including Applicure DotDefender, and am researching off-site backup solutions with Josh in the sales team this week.
Performance has been unsurpassed. My single core P4 went about its business for almost 300 days, and the only reason I had to reboot, was due to my own fault, mis-typing 'ip route del /' and hitting enter before specifying the proper address & range to unrestrict. So yeah, the only reason I had a service interruption is because I hosed it my darn self....accidentally.
The times I do work with their techs, I'm met with the same personable, professional individuals I've been working with since the beginning. I figured out the issue I was having with cpmove.
Boil it all down: I'm still thrilled with these guys. I cannot recall a single disruption that wasn't caused by my own ISP, and I love the early email notifications during planned maintenance. Looks like the prices are a bit lower nowadays, too.
I haven't seen any reviews on these guys so I thought I'd contribute. I started an account with them last 5 or 6 weeks ago and had a great experience.
setup:
was very very fast. It literally took 2 minutes. I paid with paypal and the server was made by the time I got the setup email to my gmail account. I got a town plan mostly for my new blog.
control:
this is very important for me. I like to be able to reinstall the OS without opening a support ticket. vpsville does this very well, you can choose any Linux os you want and its setup fast!
I was also able to set the rDNS without opening a ticket. That was a nice change.
speed:
the server is fast, so fast it seems like a dedicated box sitting beside me. my ping time is only 10ms from my house (Toronto, Rogers network) so that might be part of it.
Low ping time
was very important for me as I will use it as a game server. compiling code on the server is really fast and so is yum or aptitude. apache loads pages quick. No complaints at all.
support:
really good. No complaints. I asked about lots of stuff and I always get a quick reply. I was having some problems with iptables and they gave me a firewall script that does exactly what i wanted.
My site is [url]
I am not an employee nor affiliate of Sagonet but I wanted to recommend a really good service I've had to date from them. I've been with them for about two years now, and as a large number of my customers are US based, we require a US hosting presence. Being in the UK, it's incredibly helpful to be able to speak to a real technician 24/7 if required. The service uptime has been constant and their prices are very good. I would definitely have no problem recommending them and I don't usually say that.
View 11 Replies View Relatedwhen i odered the server i got the server in 4hrs-from this point iam very happy

I have had a dedicated server with Axishost for just shy of 2 years.
Before moving to Axishost, I had done the shared hosting account thing with a few companies and was never impressed with the performance or uptime. After realizing that most companies grossly oversell their shared servers, I decided that investing in a dedicated server was the best route for my company.
I recall researching and sending some 'test' helpdesk tickets to a few popular companies. None of the companies I emailed were very helpful. They just wanted to close the sale and sell me more server than I needed.
Tina @ axishost took the time to find out what my needs were and offered me a good deal on a dedicated box.
Overall, I just wanted a dependable server that I could put a couple dozen fairly low volume accounts on...have a company fully manage the box, and run a server that is Very reliable and fast.
Axishost delivered.
For about $170/month they supply me with a fast single core linux server running Cpanel.
They fully manage the box and provide all the support I need in a timely manner. Rsync backups are included.
My server is in Gnax/Atlanta and has done a fine job for 2 years.
Support ticket responses are always fast. If I put in an emergency ticket it is taken care of within minutes.
I am a happy customer, and I recommend Axishost to anyone looking for a fully managed cPanel server.
After a tech support advisor helped me with my problem on heart internet, I replied to them "Thank you and Happy Christmas".
BUT!
I got NO reply. Surelly a little reply saying Happy Christmas back would not have hurt.
I mean after im paying them loads of money per month I would appretiate a bit of politness.
Options:
Maybe they're very busy? Well they should have an automated Happy Christmas reply system.
Maybe the technition doesn't celebrate Christmas? Well maybe a Happy Holiday reply would of done ok.
so limestone seriously has some dedicated servers in the same spec and price range as I have now. So I really want to switch to them, but I did a whois on them and I notice they haven't been established for too long though.
The guy with the username Crissic Solutions has spoken extremely highly of them, so I think my decision to go with them will be a great one.
But I'd like like some feedback on what people think about this company, just to kinda reassure myself I'm making a good decision.
i have a dedicated from limestone and i also applied to be a reseller 2 days ago. do i get an email saying wether im denied or not?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am planning to buy server from Limestone. Does anybody has experiance with them?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have bought server from limestone about a month ago and here is my review:
- Support is pretty good.
- There is a lot of down times ... I think 5-6 times entire network went down, and like 10-15 times there was big delay ...
Prices are low but those down times are killing me
i really love limestonesnetwork offers and i am thinking about take server with them , but i have some questions for limestone's clients
does limestone(LSN) great network and their server is Good AND no downtime with them?
and the second Q about the server Configurations does the Cpanel and Apache and the other PRIMARY aplications Installed on the Server when you recived it?
they provide me a KVM and after some days when my time over so there is another server in my KVM account and i am able to access that server also can't believe ? well i am ready to show proofs...
and the 2nd funny thing is i told them about this but still they dont change the passwords etc i have full power on some other person server
THIS IS ONLY MY REVIEW ABOUT THIS COMPANY BECAUSE IF ANOTEHR SERVER IN MY KVM SO MAY BE MY SERVER IN ANOTHER...
Well it's been one month since I purchased my dedicated server from Limestone Networks, and i'd like to post my experiences with them, so here it goes.
About a month ago I stumbled upon Limestone networks, read a few reviews, and thought i'd go for it. The the next thing I did was start a live chat, a friendly chap by the name of Felipe responds. I have a nice long chat with Felipe, what a delight it was! Not only did he answer all of my questions promptly, but he certainly knew what he was talking about. Unlike my previous experiences with other companies.
After a nice long chat with Felipe, I was ready to get my server. So I went straight ahead and ordered.
Specifications:
Dual CPU Quad Core XEON 5504 (2.0ghz)
8GB DDR2 ECC registered RAM
2x500GB HDD in RAID1 (WD RE3, AWESOME HDD'S!)
4TB bandwith
100mbps up/down speeds
IPKVM included
All up cost me around $280 + ~$30 setup fee
Within about 2 hours I receive an email stating that there were some minor problems during setup because of the RAID configuration, and they will fix it as soon as possible. I must admit, it got me slightly worried, but a few minutes later, I receive another email saying that it's all setup and done! Boy was I excited!
I Instantly SSH'd into my server to check on things, all good. I install the XEN kernel and reboot to make sure it's working all fine, boots without any errors. So far so good.
A few days later I realised I was running out of IP Addresses, so I open a support ticket to ask for more, the invoice is created, I pay it then respond saying that I have done so. 6 minutes later they respond saying that it is being set up, and another 3 minutes later they respond with the IP addresses, sweet.
Later on I opened another support ticket asking a question referring to upgrades. Out of pure boredom I clicked the send receive button on my email, and sure enough, I already had a response! all within about 2 minutes after sending it.
Limestone's service has been great, I love their support and prompt response to tickets! One minor problem is that their accounting department isn't available during all hours, no biggie though. Their technical support department is open 24/7.
One great bonus with Limestone is that they keep you informed every step of the way, rather than leaving it to the last minute to say "sorry about the wait".
When i'm ready for my next server, i'll definitely be going for Limestone.
I ordered my server on March 6th, and asked for the server to be provisioned the 10th. I wanted to test some things out, and so I wanted the server earlier. I called up LSN and got to Carl. He was great and totally understood everything and provisioned our server in a matter of 1 hour 59 minutes!
Sadly, because I had told them we were going to need the server on the 10th, they thought they would have the RAM we needed. They compensated us by adding a better CPU(Q9400).
Then the RAM came in, I think 5 days later because of a shipping mistake where it didn't get on the truck I think(Not LSN's fault). The server went down, and they installed the RAM. The server wouldn't boot, so we had a few problems there. In the end it was just an oversight of the max amount of RAM that the MoBo could support. The downtime was a bit excessive in my opinion, and LSN compensated me.
I have had zero problems with them since that incident.
Right now, I am purchasing a 2nd server with LSN.
Support 9/10
Sales Staff 10/10
Accounting 10/10
Every limestone say of servers are making spam, in my one month of company again, i have new case, but this is high wrong.
Company simple poweroff and send e-mail with "Terminated Server", why? If your company don't can make nothing, i can, if your Windows and Network is not secured i have anything with this?
If your company don't provide services control, i don't can make anything?, if your company don't announce i can make nothing?
Wrong company relations, have only price and good hardware.
just noticed my server is EXTREMELY slow... as well as the limestone network control panel. I had a friend of mine test it too, slow for him. My load is nice and low.. Maybe they are getting DDOS'd? I moved from Burst to limestone and paying alot more, I expected more.
if anyone else is having a SUPER slow connection to the limestone network? I'm about to call their support
Customer don't had renewed one server, and limestone cancel two servers....
I simple don't understand this, because in one year of company never this is happened, now limestone only want for me pay other server to stay with 2 servers online.
The crisis affecting that company, and really is hard to believe that a large company became current that ****.
After stumbling upon limestone networks amazing offers, I decided to take advantage of their cheapest special for it was more than what I needed. For 135 dollars a month, I got this special:
[url]
With an 100mbps uplink connection. With this dedicated server, I planned on running game servers, and so far it has far exceeded my expectations.
Let's begin with the set up time:
Before leaving my old host, I found out that the location was doing no good for me. Players were not able to query my game server in the game's server list, so I decided to switch hosts. After finding limestone networks, as listed above I went straight ahead and bought the server at 4:00 AM EST time. After two hours of waiting, my dedicated server was set up with HPET enabled like I asked. I was amazed at how limestone was able to set up the dedicated server so fast and at such an early time!
The support:
The support is absolutely hands down AMAZING. Every support ticket I have made was answered (not over exaggerating here) within 4 minutes.
The control panel:
The control panel limestone has to offer that comes free with your dedicated server is so simple to use. (I believe they call it rockware.) There is an option to manage each one of your purchased servers, an option to restart your server, add new ips, change your uplink speed from 10mbps - 1000mbps (depending on what you have), the ticketing system, and much more.
Now the only problem I have came across which isn't all that huge, was that after redirecting all the traffic from my previous game servers to my new game servers hosted with lime stone, I had a problem installing the game files off Steam via hldsupdatetool.exe for Team Fortress 2. The install just froze. So I decided to contact limestone support. They decided to give it a shot, and it seemed that it froze for them too. However they did not give up, they kept trying and trying keeping me updated. (let me also remind most of you that team fortress 2 is a 3.2gb game so it takes atleast 20 mins+ to install all the necessary game files.) Finally after 2 hours, it worked. I was happy. The point here is that the support is probably their best feature aside from their prices and amazing specials. They just never give up and work to their potential in helping every customer. I would recommend limestone to anyone who is willing to try a new host.
Although I have been with them for about a week, they have so far never ceased to amaze me with their support, and quality they have to offer. I will keep everyone here updated on what limestone has to offer me and how well or bad they have been doing at the end of the month when I have to pay my next invoice.
