Is My VPS Hosting Not Providing Enough Resources For My Websites - Time To Upgrade
Sep 20, 2008
Hosting: VPS Hosting with 320 MB min and 1024 MB burst.
Websites: All the websites (about 20+) on my current vps hosting are very database heavy. They include blogs, ecommerce sites and a few small forums.
Before: In the beginning, when I had less than 10 websites on my hosting, the web hosting worked great. No hiccups and all websites worked flawlessly.
Now: Now that I'm hosting 20+ websites, I find that websites sometimes tend to timeout or not show up in my browser as well as browsers in other locations.
Do you think I need more resources? Do you think that upgrading to Hybrid Server hosting will rectify the situation?

I may be given the task of being administrator of a website. I have never done this before.
Can anyone recommend any resources for web server management which covers things like security, efficiency, backups etc?

I'm in a little shock to see umbrahosting user (umbrahosting.com) to spam this forum with their hosting offers when the sites on their servers are down for DAYS now (mine has been down for about 2 days now). No customer support (unless they want you to pay them). Terrible experience overall.

We have a dedicated server and we host 4 news portals based on e107 and joomla.
My partner on Sunday has upgraded mysql from version 4 to 5. Now the server experiences very high CPU usage and query time on portals has been increased very much.
We used to have query times lower than 1 sec for the main page of [url](which is a site that receives about 2000 visits/day) and now query times are 5-15sec !
Does anybody know if this is makes sense ?

I got this unnerving email from my hosting company today:
"While investigating performance issues on the hardware you're hosted on, we have noticed that your Apache process has been using a large amount of resources / disk i/o. So much in fact that it is affecting other users. This has become a violation of both our Acceptable Usage Agreement, and our Terms of Service. Respond within 24 hours of this notice, agreeing to cooperate with Spry staff in the resolution of this issue. You must modify and/or delete this process to fall within acceptable limits again. You must also take measures to prevent this kind of abuse in the future."
So I called them and the advice I was given was to stop hotlinking and check my stats. Well I did the first but the later revealed no server abuse. Tonight I saw load averages spike and stay about 2-3. The server was going slow. So I disabled Spamd and loads when back to normal.
I'm just wondering if there is anything else I can do. For the issue they talked about is what I want to watch load times?

A nehalem with 12 GBs of RAM. It would have 10 TBs of bandwidth. Just wondering how much stress does it use on the CPU/RAM? How many accounts should I put on it? Lets say each account is 1 GB of space and 10 GBs of bandwidth.

Our group composed of 5 people would like to have 1 Windows VPS each where we can access it via RDC, basically we want our own remote computers.
How do we go on doing this? What type of server should we choose (CPU/RAM wise)? Which datacenter or provider do you recommend we should go? And what software is required for this aside from Windows 2003.

Can someone help me with web hosts providing WHM as standard feature on their web hosts instead of in only reseller plans.
I do not need a reseller plan, just want a plan to host multiple sites of my own but don't want to use the addon domains route.
I am currently hosted on Axishost for exactly the same reason as they provide WHM access but I need a little more space than what Axishost offers.
My requirements: 1.5 GB of storage & around 20 GB bandwidth per month for around $10 per month. (Axishost provides 1 GB space and I may just fall a little short on space. Except for this, I am quite happy with Axishost)
I could only find Resellerzoom which fits my budget perfectly but not sure about their Acceptable Use Policy which seems to be quite scary for the Budget Reseller Plan based on what I read on these forums.

I'm about to the point where I am ready to host my website. I already have a domain but no hosting plan. In the future I may want to have several different websites each with their own unique domain. I was wondering if I choose a hosting plan for one site, can I use the unused web space for additional domains/websites?

I have been a solid cPanel / WHM user for the past 2 years, we have now since downsized our hosting requirements and also wanted to cut our panel costs and so we moved to PLESK 12 Web Edition. The server is on a trial license and has been working fine with no problems for the past 2 weeks. Today all of a sudden none of the websites are accessible, although I can ping all IP's on server and login via SSH.I cannot access any websites or hosting control panel, I have disabled IP tables as this was the cause of a problem last time.
Why this happened was there an update at around 5AM this morning which could have caused this?I have restarted the server, I can successfully ping / resolve address from SSH.

I want to find a web host and i have a couple of specifics that I'd like. Obviously I want the lowest cost for a relatively reliable service. I am looking to get started in my own web development/design business so I want to use this server as a development environment for myself as well as a deployment environment for potential clients.
I want to have SSH access to my space, the ability to host without buying a domain (at first, ill want to get one later), a good number of MySQL databases.
Some things that would be nice would be the ability to resell space for clients, not absolutely necessary though.
Are there any solutions that anyone here could suggest for me? What are some pitfalls and things I should watch out for? What else could I look to take advantage of?

I am having an issue where it appears an incorrect time zone may be on my account. I am in Mountain Daylight Time and it appears that it's putting me as being in Eastern Daylight Time.
I was told that you can put a line such as:SetEnv TZ America/Denver
in your htaccess.txt file.
I wasn't sure where to put it so I put it at the end of the hdaccess.txt file.
The issue is it appears it still did not fix it. Is there another way to set the time zone or did I do something incorrectly?

I too am having an awful time with Crucial (crucialwebhost.com). I've been with them for three months and each month there has been a server issues that cause my sites to not function. They use Softlayer so you would think it would be better.
When I report problems I feel as though I am being stalled. Some of their people are really good but others just don't want to be there (you can tell) it's a flip of the coin.
Right now my sites have been down for days.

I dont believe any of these shared hosting providers are different from another except maybe pricing and 24/7 telephone/email support.
So putting to rest which one is the "best", when do u decide that it is time for u to move on to a vps or dedicated server. what is the daily bandwidth that should make you realize that u need to move on to a better server before they cut u down cos u r taking up "too many resources"

Server time is:
Tue Nov 11 17:02:51 CST 2008
Squirrelmail time show:
Code:
Last Refresh:

So, that is correct too..
But email arrives with -4 hours time, example:

I already rebooted httpd, exim, and imap server, and the server itself too.. and problem stills.

I can't get access to a certain site. I always get the page with:
network time out - server at *** takes to long to respons. More people have noticed this and apparently it only happens to people with certain specific providers. And not all the time. Some times they DO get access eventy to they belong to the same ISP. So I guess an ISP isn't blocking access to it otherwise it would be permenantly/The site administrator insists that certain ISP's are blocking his site. He's hosting it on his own server. The domain belongs is registered at namecheap.com.
If an ISP is blocking this site (if that's possible?), that would lead to that 'network timeout' page wouldn't it?
What is the most likely reason for getting a timeout page anyway?
