I am having an issue where it appears an incorrect time zone may be on my account. I am in Mountain Daylight Time and it appears that it's putting me as being in Eastern Daylight Time.
I was told that you can put a line such as:SetEnv TZ America/Denver
in your htaccess.txt file.
I wasn't sure where to put it so I put it at the end of the hdaccess.txt file.
The issue is it appears it still did not fix it. Is there another way to set the time zone or did I do something incorrectly?
When i try setting time zone to GMT, it do not worked.
# date Thu Jun 26 10:05:20 UTC 2008 # ln -s /usr/share/zoneinfo/GMT /etc/localtime # /usr/sbin/ntpdate time.nist.gov 26 Jun 06:05:27 ntpdate[29806]: step time server 192.43.244.18 offset 1.429150 sec # date Thu Jun 26 06:05:27 EDT 2008
It still shows time in EDT.
I have the same problem in other server also, both servers are CentOS 5.2
When i set to UTC, it works
# date Thu Jun 26 06:10:16 EDT 2008 # rm -f /etc/localtime # ln -s /usr/share/zoneinfo/UTC /etc/localtime # date Thu Jun 26 10:10:16 UTC 2008 #
I have a linux server running websites without any control panels. The problem is that the scripts run by cron daemons are showing up a wrong time and time zone on emails.
This happens when they are run as automated scripts by cron daemon. Recently I have changed the time from EST to CST. The command date and hwclock --show gives the correct CST, even the scripts run from the shell showsup the correct CST time.
I am using Servint and I am looking for another provider with similar reputation/reliability. I have heard many good things about Zone.net on this forum, but they don't have any reviews older than a few months. Have they been around long, if so, why no early posts?
I have a server in USA which I have leased to a customer. The customer is running an application in the server and for that he needs the timezone to be set IST in the server. If he does the same, then will it affect the working of the server. What can be the ill-effects of the same. The customer is running Windows 2003 server.
For those who cannot decide, I would simply like to say that after reading the posts on this site and making contact with half a dozen potential VPS hosts, I decided to go with Zone.net. To avoid a rather long shut down for maintenance, I wanted to move 20 sites in a big hurry. Though the folks at zone.net had their hands full with many other matters, like getting some new equipment up and running, they extended me the utmost courtesy, responded promptly to all tickets, and had me going within the narrow time frame at our disposal.
I think the right word for their hosting is snappy, but for their staff and work ethic, A+ would be the right rating.
I joined WHT just yesterday I think. I read good reviews on zone.net from 2-3 people I think. I ordered with Asmallorange.com but to go with zone.net, I cancelled the order there and got a refund immediately. I don't know what on earth made me do this. Look what I receive.
At first, I left a support ticket asking server specs etc and other pre sale questions so I can go ahead and buy. Got my fist responce after 6 hours. Kind of turn off but still thought of givnig them a try. I must say that they said VPS with plesk can be setup in 30minutes but cpanel takes 1 day. They got me the server in 10 hours. It was well appreciated. I was happy.
Now since this is my first time with VPS, I asked for support that I am not able to transfer my Vbulletin forum (teenhut.net) an active teen site. I did everything fine. I have got more than enough experience on transfering and installing VBulletin or other php scripts. Now, Database errors starts coming in. Whole day spent thinking it is my fault somewhere.
Finally today I tried to install wordpress and even that doesnt work. Zone.net said they don't offer script installation help but only help if there is a server problem. It was no script error. The script doesnt connect to database only. Thats horrible! Ofcource, maybe some kind of mistake. I realized this when even a WORDPRESS BLOG could not get installed. I have just done too much, tried EVERYTHING but nothing worked.
I initiated another ticket asking for support on this. I submitted at 1pm and now it is 11pm. Only reply I got is : -

Hi,
Did you create the database in cPanel first? When you login to WHM/cPanel go to List Accounts, and then click on the cPanel icon for that domain, and then from the cPanel page go ahead and create the database.
In the config file, put localhost as the mysql server, and the username and password you selected. Let me know if this works for you.

Richard ZONE.NET

Last night, Brian named guy also entered config file but could not make it to work.
So, Zone.net staff made an attempt to ask "Have I made a database in cpanel?" I am talking about vbulletin installation and that is the support I get for VPS.
I bought Managed VPS for $65.
I requested cancellation and then read TOS - No refund policy on VPS. $65 is not a big deal but this is not how I wanted to spend my $$. I am still hoping to get some reply.
Either Problem Rectification(Hope, so I can spend 1 month and run away) OR Refund (not so hopes in this). What do you guys think will happen? Will they rectify the problem? Or refund may it be partial refund? Or they wll just leave as it is and wont respond to my tickets also.
To be specific, RENT A SERVER, where there is a way to connect to database not known to you and them as well. Host HTML PAGES, thats all you get for $65 in Zone ?
And now I think the good reviews of Zone.net were Paid! Sorry, but thats all comes in my mind. I feel cheated.
Look at my site, it is down since a day - teenhut.net
I want to find a web host and i have a couple of specifics that I'd like. Obviously I want the lowest cost for a relatively reliable service. I am looking to get started in my own web development/design business so I want to use this server as a development environment for myself as well as a deployment environment for potential clients.
I want to have SSH access to my space, the ability to host without buying a domain (at first, ill want to get one later), a good number of MySQL databases.
Some things that would be nice would be the ability to resell space for clients, not absolutely necessary though.
Are there any solutions that anyone here could suggest for me? What are some pitfalls and things I should watch out for? What else could I look to take advantage of?
I too am having an awful time with Crucial (crucialwebhost.com). I've been with them for three months and each month there has been a server issues that cause my sites to not function. They use Softlayer so you would think it would be better.
When I report problems I feel as though I am being stalled. Some of their people are really good but others just don't want to be there (you can tell) it's a flip of the coin.
I dont believe any of these shared hosting providers are different from another except maybe pricing and 24/7 telephone/email support.
So putting to rest which one is the "best", when do u decide that it is time for u to move on to a vps or dedicated server. what is the daily bandwidth that should make you realize that u need to move on to a better server before they cut u down cos u r taking up "too many resources"
I just ordered a vps from them. its been exactly 22 hours since i paid for the vps server. How long does it take them 2 generally set up accounts? Any current web wide hosting vps customers on this forum?
I want to transfer hosts right now but I still have 9 months with my old host. Do you know of any hosts that will transfer this time when I move to them? I have seen this on a few sites but forgot where
Hosting: VPS Hosting with 320 MB min and 1024 MB burst.
Websites: All the websites (about 20+) on my current vps hosting are very database heavy. They include blogs, ecommerce sites and a few small forums.
Before: In the beginning, when I had less than 10 websites on my hosting, the web hosting worked great. No hiccups and all websites worked flawlessly.
Now: Now that I'm hosting 20+ websites, I find that websites sometimes tend to timeout or not show up in my browser as well as browsers in other locations.
Do you think I need more resources? Do you think that upgrading to Hybrid Server hosting will rectify the situation?
I can't get access to a certain site. I always get the page with:
network time out - server at *** takes to long to respons. More people have noticed this and apparently it only happens to people with certain specific providers. And not all the time. Some times they DO get access eventy to they belong to the same ISP. So I guess an ISP isn't blocking access to it otherwise it would be permenantly/The site administrator insists that certain ISP's are blocking his site. He's hosting it on his own server. The domain belongs is registered at namecheap.com.
If an ISP is blocking this site (if that's possible?), that would lead to that 'network timeout' page wouldn't it?
What is the most likely reason for getting a timeout page anyway?
I have a dedicated server specs: AMD 3500+ 64 Bit CPU, 1 GB Ram, 160 GB Sata Drive. For 1 month, CPU load average reaches 40-50 value. This happens about 5-6 times in a day. When I stop httpd service for 30 seconds everything goes normal. I think this is not a DoS attack because it comes systematic, I dont believe no one makes this regularly except bots.
Maybe its a system service or a cronjob but it stops when I turn off httpd service? How can I be sure about what's making this regularly load?
I also did set up a script which mail me when load average of system goes crazy and restart httpd service. But instant restart is not working to stop load increase.
The server is going down from time to time, every 12 days or so the site hosted there is no longer accesible, everything starts with the site slowing don and down and then is not longer reachable, what we do is to request a power cycle, and with this we start all over again till next power cycle, so on so on, of course, here are my server details and more info on this:
- MySQL - 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.10 - Apache - 2.2.14-5ubuntu8.4 - PHP - 5.3.2-1ubuntu4.9 - operating system: Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS
After some time emailing the support guys to barely check about what's going on, we received an email with a few things:
1.- found a few errors that likely would cause issues with Apache. The first error is: [Mon Feb 04 05:03:10 2013] [error] mod_fcgid: fcgid process manager died, restarting the server and the next error is: [Mon Feb 04 14:32:34 2013] [error] server reached MaxClients setting, consider raising the MaxClients setting ...
Both these errors seem to indicate that you have a process that is running out of control on your server. We were unable to determine what script on your site is running caused your connections to be maxed out however it does appear that before these errors were generated there was a WordPress plugin referenced in your access logs...
2.- Additionally during our review we did find that your error log for mercadodedinerousa.com is 45 GB's which is excessively large and can cause problems when Apache is trying to write a such a large file.
3.- The majority of the errors being logged are: [Wed Feb 06 12:12:31 2013] [error] [client 200.76.90.5] Options FollowSymLinks or SymLinksIfOwnerMatch is off which implies that RewriteRule directive is forbidden: /var/www/vhosts/mercadodedinerousa.com/httpdocs/index.pl, referer: [URL]
I came in here a couple days back looking for a reliable, powerful, and well priced VPS. I went through a couple companies and one of the first that I really seriously considered was Zone.net.
It's really all about first impressions and zone.net wins this. Their site looks great and definitely made a good impression on me. I had some questions about hosting a Debian VPS; they answered them quickly and completely. Their support is first-class and very personable. I waited on hold for less than a minute, and was instantly directed to a very knowledgeable agent.
After setting up my VPS, I can tell you that my sites get some good traffic and zone.net is handling it all great. Their bandwidth is fast, their servers are first class, and they're definitely the kind of host everybody should have.
I've been through many other hosts in search of a decent VPS and I definitely will be staying with zone.net for a while. I'm not affiliated at all with them, just a very satisfied customer. If you're thinking of opening something with them and would like an honest, third party opinion, don't hesitate to PM me.
My VPS is down at Zone.net and its been more than 12 hours, it is down. I submitted a ticket more then 7 hours ago, but no reply whats so ever from them.
I called on their number, but it goes to voicemail. Any one facing the same issue with them?
I just wanted to take a minute to express how happy I am with my new VPS from Zone.net.
There was a minor delay getting my VPS set up and they were upfront and gave me a good credit for it. This is rare in this day and age and I felt I should share how well they communicated.
So far the VPS is screaming and hosting my 3 sites without breaking a sweat.
Ill post a week or month report as I get time. This site helped me find Zone.net, so some more good feedback can't hurt. :-)
Before aweek i was looking from good company to take VPS so i saw here some poeple commend with zone.net. so i take VPS from them they are not to bad they have excellent dealers but the support slow if you issue ticket its will take hours to answer you.
so i will write my problem to (web hosting talk members) maybe they will help me one it
