How Much Email Space To Allocate
Mar 26, 2009I have never really looked to far into this but I was wondering how much space to allocate to my clients email accounts. Any rule of thumb for this?

Free Email - Lot Of Space And Email Boxes Involved
Feb 13, 2007One of my customers asked me if is possible technically to offer free email services.
Since he's going to launch a big portal he want to offer such things later, for all users.
Now, there are problems as:
a) if there is any possibility to compress emails similar with GMAIL or YahooMail or so, because i can't imagine the email is uncompressed
b) how can be handled email boxes over multiple (mail ?) servers if the HDD space needed would be larger than for one server HDD ?

Feb 5, 2015I have a customer on a 250MB hosting plan and has been using approximately 450MB for the past few days but hasn't received a resource overuse email.
In my notifications I have "Resource usage limits exceeded by subscription" set to send myself and the customer an email but neither of us have received anything.
Allocate System Ram
Jul 22, 2008I have a VPS acct with Plesk, am peaking out my system ram at 128mb. Host said to allocate ,ore = purchase more. What I would like to do is hunt down where I am using the most of it. I have 8 sites (non that are too big). Most of them are wordpress sites.
Would caching help? Not sure where to look to find this out.

Also I notice my server load are was also high due to '/usr/sbin/httpd -k start -DSSL' taking half of my CPU process. I tried to killall -9 httpd and restart again. See all below

My server was totally offline!
When I type 'ls', it says

I have unplugged the server from datacenter. Right now the server is infront of me. Please advise what command and fixes should i do.

I wonder if there is any security risk associated with this, like would it be better to move out wordpress on to a different db? what about speed? what if my forum receives allot of mysql usage?

Jun 5, 2009We're in the process of setting up our new VPS Server, and we can create a VPS with 256MB memory and with 512MB memory fine, but when creating one with 1GB memory, we get the error:
Could Not Start Vps, Reason: Unable to fork: Cannot allocate memory: Not enough resources to start environment: Container start failed:
Even though the server has 4GB RAM and no other VPS's running. Any ideas?

[Edit]We now seem to get the problem for all our VPS's. I think it may be something to do with the Server not unallocating the memory, as we've provisioned and de-provisioned quite a few Servers
Web Space Storage Or Get Additional Space From Another Server
Oct 14, 2008im running out of space on one of my sites but i have more then plenty of data transfer.
Unfortunately my hosting packaged it weird where they provide not enough hd space. Im trying to figure out is there a way where i can use another server or hosting company that can provide space only and use their servers just for space?
i think amazon.com offered this but wasnt sure how exactly this works.

But Apache will not start with spaces. I tried

Apache would start but the passthrough doesn't work. What do I need to do? I have several url's with spaces.

What Does "Server Refused To Allocate Pty"
Jun 19, 2009On one of our servers, a Athlon 64, 4 GB DDR2 RAM, Linux server with CentOS 5.3 64-bit installed and running the latest kernel (and which is located entirely different from the previous post, in a different city and DC), after installing some packages using yum and installing the latest PHP and Apache from tarballs, the server began slowing down and hanging on trying to do additional yum installs.
So, we rebooted and logged back into our SSH shell and got "Server refused to allocate pty" after entering the password and then, nothing. We can't run other diagnostics or anything to determine the issue, look at any logs, etc.
What does this mean and does anyone know how to fix it without reinstalling the OS? We have rescue mode available to us but we're not sure how to use it to fix this problem.
We look forward to your solutions-oriented responses.
VPS Space Available
Sep 19, 2008I have a 30gb vps which I only have used about 6gb. This 6gb is a live site so if that means anything.
I want to take 15gb of it and use it for personal ftp storage where I can access it at work and via at home so I don't have to always copy things to media discs.
My question is that will doing that and just leaving 9gb give or take on my live site affect performance or anything.
Where To Get FTP Space
Oct 2, 2008I read an offer from a company a month or so ago that offered some plan where you were given a certain amount of space on an ftp server. I'm not sure if it was hosting as well or just ftp space. Then each month you paid $5 or something and for as long as you have your account with them they give you and extra 5-10GB per month. So your space on the server grows with your needs.
Does anyone know the company? I can't find it anymore but I'd like to take another look at them.
UK IP Space
Mar 11, 2007Does any know of any UK companies who do public IP space? aka putting a request into RIPE for some IPs (with justification). We only need a class c and we cannot justify the fees of joining ourself to RIPE.
Getting IPs from our current provider isnt possible as we want our own IPs so if we ever moved away we could take the addresses with us without having to change.

May 28, 2015I'm having difficulty sending an email to another email address (with a different domain) which is on the same VPS.The trouble is, on the other domain's VPS control panel, within the DNS settings, the MX records have been pointed externally (to an exchange server). Their email is turned off. But bizarrely, their mailbox is full.
It seems as though Plesk is ignoring the MX records, and sending MY email internally to the OTHER domain's mailbox on the same VPS.How do I get Plesk to send my mail to the correct EXTERNAL MX records?
Portable IP Space?
Jan 6, 2007The last time I applied for a portable block from ARIN was about 7 years ago, and it was pretty easy to get when you could justify a /22. I'm just about to begin this process with my current company. Right now we're using a a /24 and 2x /23's from 3 different providers, and are hoping to get a portable block from ARIN.
Basically needing a /21, do we stand a chance of getting a portable block, or are we still stuck getting our prefix from one of our providers?
Route My IP Space
May 22, 2009what is needed is a dedicated server or colocation in which my portable IP space (a class c assigned to me in 1995) can be routed to in its entirety. We will then have a VPN back to our own site. This could be accomplished by the ISP BGP peering, or simply announcing the routes themselves. We've got clue in routing, both in OpenBSD and IOS.
The machine doesn't have to be too powerful, and needs little storage space, but the bandwidth provided has to be decent. This is for a hobbyist rather than commercial project, so price is an issue.
How Is It A Waste Of Space
May 22, 2009I'm starting to get annoyed with companies stipulating that is it considered a waste of space to store your own files, and backups or whatever on your shared hosting account.
I don't understand why that is considered a waste of space you purchase that space and bandwidth. So why can you not use it for whatever you want in legal terms.
In fact I would be confident to say I have not seen a single terms of service NOT state that you cannot use your space as storage.
