I've Wordpress Blog And Forum - How To Allocate Them On Server
Mar 20, 2007
Basically I installed wordpress in the same mysql as forum... but wordpress uses different username to connect to it. I wonder if there is any security risk associated with this, like would it be better to move out wordpress on to a different db? what about speed? what if my forum receives allot of mysql usage?
WHT is after what I've heard one of the biggest webmaster forums. So I am asking this. Lets say you have 1000 concurrent users all the time. What is less resources using.
Vbulletin forum Wordpress custom made page
All 3 of them can equally fullfill what they are intended for.
Vbulletin - I had it but it uses too much resources, I need strong dedicated servers too keep it up.
Wordpress - never used it, but its coded by experts so it should use less resources than all other blog softwares. I need to know if this need dedicated or semi-dedicated to hold 1000 concurrent users.
Custom made page - hire a code to make a page. But custom coders cannot be better than Wordpress coders and therefore not as good as coded as WP?
1. which web hosting provider is good for starting web hoster like me?
2. i need web host who support wordpress as blog software and web hosting must be fair price and my blog contain only 10mb size and bandwidth may 1gb/month intial.
2. can i use more than one blog in same domain, if ok in that each blog can have their own wordpress blog software i.e i can instal more than one wordprss software in same domain and web host?
3. if i accept free domain register from my web hoster, then if i transfer my blog after 5 months or 9 months to different web host provider can i use same domain or it is not possible?
I am hosting my wordpress blog on a web hosting that is not that reliable as it go down once in a while for few hours without any prior notification of sheduled maintenance.
However, i have a question. How do i migrate a wordpress blog with everything intact.. data, information, application, plugins, graphics and domain name?
I am hosting a Wordpress blog that currently uses 30GB of bandwidth per month. I want to introduce a forum as well so will probably need 50GB per month for now. But would like it expandable to 100GB in the future.
My requirements are:
No hidden CPU Limitations/No unreasonable resource usage restrictions. Equipped to handle large surges of traffic. No Overselling, able to use full allocation.
AND PROBABLY:
LiteSpeed - Does it really make a difference?
I have looked at MediaLayer, but they only provide upto 50GB transfer.
SecureServerTech looks good but uptime is only around 99%
At the moment Steadfast Networks looks the best.
My budget will be $20 for 50GB tranfer and $40 for 100GB of transfer, but this is not fixed and I would prefer quality over price.
I have a couple of blogs with domain names I already purchased through GoDaddy.com and I currently update them through Wordpress. I am looking to upgrade my blog accounts for CSS and I need a host that I can use to install Wordpress. I've heard great things about Host Gator and I just want to make sure it will work for me and see if anyone has suggestions about which plan I should use.
I've been hosting my membership website on one of my accounts on my reseller account at ResellerZoom and it's an absolute joke. The membership website is running on Wordpress 2.7.
The error message 'Internal Server Error' is CONSTANTLY coming up even though my membership website only has ONE member adding, editing and changing the site. This has been going on for 2 months now and there is NO WAY I can open my site to anyone else whilst this is going on.
I have the following plugins running and have tried it without ANY of these running and still had problems.
- Audio player (adds player for mp3 files)
- Contact form 7 by Takayuki Miyoshi
- Gravatar
- Limit posts plugin by [url]Blog Archives Limit Posts Plugin?
- Wishlist Member by [url]
- Wordpress Backup Plugin Il Filosofo WordPress Database Backup
The only response I've got from ResellerZoom is:
Resellers may not use more than 2% CPU daily, 3% memory daily, run more than 10 simultaneous processes per user, allow any process to run for longer than 30 CPU seconds, run any process that consumes more than 20% of available CPU at any time, or run any process that consumes more than 16 MB of memory. Databases are limited to 16 max user connections with a max query time of 8 seconds. Cron jobs must not execute more than once every 15 minutes and will be niced to 15 or greater.
So it looks like I need to move..
I just need a shared webhosting account perhaps? That will support MySQL connections with Wordpress!
I currently have one blog on wordpress (a sub domain like name.wordpress.com).
I want to purchase a domain and also move it to a paid host. I am not really technically knowledgeable to do this. Have visited a few step by step guides but find them quite confusing.
guide to do the move/transfer of the blog, more for a beginner? And by the way is it simple to do or actually more for a professional?
how much disk space and bandwidth would be needed to run a single Wordpress blog. I'm not a popular name, so I doubt I will have too many viewers besides my closest friends. In addition, I tend to make layouts which are a "teensy-bit" graphic-heavy :p
Is 2GB (disk space) and 30GB (bandwidth) supposedly enough?

How can I fix this problem? The Script is 100% i/O because it has worked onder PHP 5.2 and its comp. whit 5.4.
On one of our servers, a Athlon 64, 4 GB DDR2 RAM, Linux server with CentOS 5.3 64-bit installed and running the latest kernel (and which is located entirely different from the previous post, in a different city and DC), after installing some packages using yum and installing the latest PHP and Apache from tarballs, the server began slowing down and hanging on trying to do additional yum installs.
So, we rebooted and logged back into our SSH shell and got "Server refused to allocate pty" after entering the password and then, nothing. We can't run other diagnostics or anything to determine the issue, look at any logs, etc.
What does this mean and does anyone know how to fix it without reinstalling the OS? We have rescue mode available to us but we're not sure how to use it to fix this problem.
We look forward to your solutions-oriented responses.
I have a VPS acct with Plesk, am peaking out my system ram at 128mb. Host said to allocate ,ore = purchase more. What I would like to do is hunt down where I am using the most of it. I have 8 sites (non that are too big). Most of them are wordpress sites.
Would caching help? Not sure where to look to find this out.
my current servers are part of this mess with Alphared: [url]
what I'm looking for:
static content main server: average cpu, average ram 15-20gb data tops, but could use a fast drive need about 6tb/m of higher quality bandwidth 2 machine cluster for forums
only thing on this will be vBulletin forums. current database is about 6gb (~7 million posts) averaging about 800 members active per 15 mins this isn't for a business, so it all comes out of my pocket. however, after the $#@! with Alphared I do recognize the importance of a good host and I am willing to put money toward that as needed. however, my goal is in the $600-$800/m range for everything. is that price range doable? if not, what is a reasonable price for what I'm asking? and can anyone recommend reliable hosts (especially one that can correctly setup the cluster for the forums).
Past shared hosting deals we been trying out sucks. We are a community forum that just started but know we will grow a big database in the future. We want to prepare now and have no problems. It's a LOCAL Radio-Control (R/C) forum.
What VPS Host would you guys recommend that handles forums well? So far, I broke down to WiredTree.com.
Are there any services where an ADMIN can monitor DB usage on system and make some recommendations or even find SQL that is poorly written ...
I have a DUAL harpertown, 10GB RAM, and RAID
I have a typical, gallery, busy VB forum, and video script...
THe site traffic has not increased much but my Memory keeps getting chewed up... i already did some tuning that VBULLLETIN suggested... but the memory still goes... i need a tool or someone to just monitor the server for a day and grab as much diagnostic info as possible..
I suspect that its a single query giving problems cuz i have some custom coded pages...
I don't want to split the DB and HTTP request on diff servers cuz the traffic that i get shouldn't warrant it... for now...
I moved over a 400mb ish forum database for VBB to another server and ran into
MySQL Error : Duplicate entry '0' for key 1
Which I imagine would have to do with auto incriment? What can I do about this? Is there a way I can bring it over and not hit this? Way to fix it? In the meantime all of the viewers cannot use the forum because I was forced to put it into maintenance mode so that no one can run into errors etc.
We're in the process of setting up our new VPS Server, and we can create a VPS with 256MB memory and with 512MB memory fine, but when creating one with 1GB memory, we get the error:
Could Not Start Vps, Reason: Unable to fork: Cannot allocate memory: Not enough resources to start environment: Container start failed:
Even though the server has 4GB RAM and no other VPS's running. Any ideas? Thanks.
[Edit]We now seem to get the problem for all our VPS's. I think it may be something to do with the Server not unallocating the memory, as we've provisioned and de-provisioned quite a few Servers
