Directory Structure And Addon Domains

Aug 6, 2008

I have a shared hosting account. VPS or dedicated is not an option.

I use CPanel.

For example, www .maindomain. com is the primary domain associated with the hosing account.

When adding subdomains or addon domains, a new directory is created in the public_html directory of my hosting account.

These new directories hold all the files for the sub domains and addon domains.

My problem is that the directory that holds the subdomain or addon domain CAN BE accessed from:

[url]
or

www .maindomain. com/addon_domain_directory/

thus,

www .addon_domain. com can be accessed from it's own URL as well as
www .maindomain. com/addon_domain_directory/

Is there a solution that DOES NOT allow this to happen?

If my main domain could have it's own directory under public_html, that would be great, but I do not know if this is possible.

A directory structure like this:

-public_html
-maindomain
-subdomain
-addon domain

Addon Domains In Same Directory With H-Sphere

Nov 26, 2007

I mean create addon domains inside the same directory like cpanel do with H-Sphere?

So you can access the site in both URLS like sub section of your main site and same as its own domain.

MainBigSite.com/MusicSite
MusicSite.com

So you can show like MusicSite.com also a part of MainBigSite when user go through MainBigsite.com direct users from google can go with MusicSite.com

Using that MainBigSite.com will get lot of pages indexed in google coz its hwoing URLs of MusicSite.com too.

If there is no option to do that or any way to change H-Sphere, Can you please tell me how to do it manually? What files to edit and steps?

After i did that it will cause problems with H-Sphere?

Directory Structure For /var/log On FreeBSD

Sep 3, 2006

I deleted my /var/log directory to clean up space, and now Exim won't work.

Can anyone please post the directory and subdirectory structure for /var/log on a FreeBSD system? I am hoping that with the right directories, the files will rewrite themselves...

Shared Hosting Directory Structure

Jun 2, 2009

I recently switched from one shared hosting company to another. Both plans included WHM and Cpanel. After gaining access to the new WHM, I created a second domain (the first was established by the hosting company upon startup with a domain name I had just purchased). At that point, both domains showed in WHM; I could access both with Cpanel, and I could properly use SFTP to access the correct /home remote starting directory for each of the two domains.

I had provided my new host with a full Cpanel backup of the second domain (the one I just installed on my new account myself) from my old host. That night the new host restored all files including mysql.

At this point, I can still access the original domain (established by my new host the previous day) just as I did before. However, now I cannot access the restored domain using SFTP ("can't find directory" error message). I have to use FTP. Also, I can't acccess the proper starting directory. My FTP agents (I've used two) go immediately to /public_html, nor can I go up even one level. This means that I've lost the ability to access two higher directory levels in the ususal /home/mydomain/public_html directory structure.

I've used various starting remote directories within my third party FTP agents to no avail.

Support is courteous, but stumped. They indicate that the directory structure looks fine from its end. Indeed, if I use Cpanel file management for the problematic domain, I too can see and access /home/mydomain-name, something I can't do using third party agents.

I am concerned that security may be problematic with this situation. Even though I can access the suspect domain using Cpanel and see its front end with a browser, I wonder whether there might be issues down the road.

Custom Directory Structure With LxAdmin

Aug 20, 2008

I just purchased a new VPS. I don't really like how lxAdmin lays out directories. I am not sure if what I want to do is possible, but I'll ask anyways:

/home/    /northwinddesign/    /client1/    /client2/    /client3/    /lib/

This way, when I log in with ftp, I see folders for my site (northwinddesign), all of my clients site (accessible with one click) and my codebase library. Ideally I would like the client1, etc. directories to be the webroots for their domains.

However, I'm not sure whether lxAdmin can still manage a directory like that. I'm pretty good with the command line, but I have several clients who want a control panel to see bandwidth, stats, and stuff.

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: Migrating Backups In Correct Directory Structure

May 28, 2015

I'm migrating sites from Plesk 9 to Plesk 12 using the migration manager. Since the migration manager doesn't migrate backups, are the backups compatible between Plesk 9 and Plesk 12? If so, is there an easy way to copy the backups in the correct directory structure since we are forced to use clients in plesk 12 and it changes the directory structure of the backups folders.

Parked Domains Over Addon Domains

Apr 18, 2008

I have 2 wordpress blogs, and I'd like a few different domains to be shared on each of them.

Using some exemples, suppose I have domains from domainA.com to domainE.com. domainA.com is my main domain and the others are addon domains.

Today Blog1 is using blog.domainA.com, and domainB.com and domainC.com use WebRedirect to blog.domainA.com. And Blog2 uses domainD.com with WebRedirect on domainE.com too.

To access a post like /2008/02/02/this-is-a-nice-post, it is available only at blog.domainA.com, and not by domains B and C. I'd like they 3 to be able to access all posts directly, without redirecting to domain A.

To do that, I suppose I'd need to do some config on cPanel. And also on wordpress, even if I replicate it over other domains it insists to redirect to its configured domain.

I was thinking on the possibility of using symbolic link (ln -s) on their folders to blog.domainA.com folder, but I don't have access to shell on SSH so I'd like to know if it would work before trying.

In a real exemple of what I want, these domains all share the same phpBB forum: forumpcs.com.br, extremepc.com.br, forumdohardware.com.br.

Do u know if symbolic link would work to share the same wordpress? And how to make wordpress stop redirecting to blog.domainA.com?

Addon Domains

Jan 25, 2009

Been browsing the site and would value your opinions.

Addon domains are supplied by some webhosts and not others, one of the hosts who does not supply any addon domains puts across a good argument that they can overload a server if they get out of control.

How do others apparently manage these with no problems?

Addon Domains And Subdomains

Aug 20, 2008

I have a main domain "main.com" and when I make a new addon domain "new.com", it creates a new DNS Zone for "new.com" but also adds a subdomain DNS entry to
main.com "new.main.com".

I know that is very typical way that cpanel works, and I know there are ways to work around this by using .htaccess.

What I am trying to discover is if removing the "new" subdomain DNS entry under main.com could cause any problems. Are there side effects? Will this break anything within my VPS?

CPanel Addon Domains

Feb 21, 2007

I am not a reseller, but I currently use a reseller account to manage several separate sites of mine. I know that it is possible under a standard cPanel account to have addon domains, where the html files go in a subfolder of the main domain. If you do this:

- is it possible for people to access the addon site files using www.maindomain/addondomain, and if so can you stop this?

- do you still get separate email addresses and spamassassin settings for the addon domain?

- do you get separate web server logs for each domain, for stats?

- is there any other reason why it might still be better to pay more for a reseller account so that each site can be managed completely separately?

Doubt Related To Addon Domains

Jul 8, 2008

I have read about addon domains but I have still one doubt regarding same. Suppose I have buy two domains which have no any relationship with each other like one is of my family (viralshah3112andfamily.com) and one is for my uncle's business site (xyz.com) . Now if I host them in one account as addon domain, both will have different identity? Means both will have different URL like xyz.com and viralshah3112andfamily.com. Is it so?

Addon Domains Moving To Parked

Jun 3, 2008

I have a reseller account in WHM and CPANEL.

With that I have a range of sites under it created in Cpanel under addon domains.

Everything works fine, then suddenly everything goes down, and all leads to the main site.

Reason is, it shows all the domains in Cpanel as parked!

Even removing them from there or WHM causes it to dissappear from the addon section and not show up online.

Now it happened months ago where httpd.conf file had to be edited manually.

And it just happened about 30hrs ago.

Does anyone know why this would happen? I have asked my datacentre 3 times, with no clear answer about it, except it just does.

How can it be prevented in future?

Also asked my datacentre this with no answer.

Will be putting up a review of them soon, and it will be the complete opposite of what I thought of them before.

Addon Domains Vs Separate Domain Pros/cons

Mar 23, 2009

I'm trying to understand more the Pro's and Con's for having an Addon Domain vs Separate domain.

Here's my use for it. Site1.com holds all the files, Site2.com holds all the video and images. When it comes time to add a second server (end of this year) I could move Site2.com to a second server and nfs mount it. Thats of the site is separate. PROBLEM: separate site means permission problems, when write code ie.php you can unlink / move files without permission which means setting up special groups.

Addon domain doesn't have the permission problem from what I can see, since the domain gets the group access of the Mainsite. so no extra configuration required. now the problem would be how do I get that addon domain to a second server to offload some of the resources.

Cpanel AddOn Domains With Subdomains Automatically From Main Domain

Nov 20, 2008

Lets say I have abcd.com as the main domain on cpanel. abcd.com has 10 subdomains.

Basically what I want to do is when I do an addon domain or parked domain I want the subdomains to basically point to abcd.com automatically. Let's say the addon/parked

domain is 1234.com
For example I have
sub.abcd.com as the main subdomain

so when I type in sub.1234.com I want it pointed to sub.abcd.com internally meaning the script/files from there however in the browser show as if it were sub.1234.com

Domain Root And Subdomain Structure

Jun 22, 2008

I am a bit confused about domain and sub-domain setup for my website.

I have Wordpress and VBulletin Forum on my website like this:

/www/mywebsite/wordpress
/www/mywebsite/vbulletin

Right now, my domain points to this folder:
[url]

I have a .htaccess file there which redirects it to the wordpress folder i.e.
Redirect permanent /index.php http://www.mywebsite.com/wordpress
DirectoryIndex index.php

But, I would like my domain name point directly to the wordpress folder like this:
[url]

But the problem when i do that is my "VBulletin" forum get's messed up because then:
[url]----------resolves to--------->
[url]

I m thinking to resolve this issues, I will have to add a subdomain for forums like this:
[url]-> [url]

But I am wondering if I do that, won't it fail again, because it will do this:
[url]-----will resolve to----->
[url]

i was wondering (i am sorry is this is the wrong place i would also ask to move it to the right place if this is the wrong one) has any one around had experience with server A with cPanel serving only DNS and HTTP with another server with MAIL and MySQL?

what do you use if so ? how did you approch the mail creation and so on?

for the dns there is the cPanel tool so i dont think it would be a trouble would it?

did you had to leave anything on the server A related to mailserver?

What would be the best structure to divide services like http, database, mail, dns and so on?

Transfering To New Domain And Keeping Content Structure

Apr 22, 2007

what's the most practical way to move ALL the content from one domain to another in terms of keeping decent search ranking as well as forwarding to the new domain.

So like say the current URL is:

[url]

And I want it to be:

[url]

So if you went to the example.com version it'd automatically forward to the example.org version and then the search engines would pick up on that and update the URL.

I've got full control over all the DNS zones, nameservers, etc etc...so whatever is the best option I can do it. I just don't know what that best option is.
