Domain Root And Subdomain Structure
I am a bit confused about domain and sub-domain setup for my website.
I have Wordpress and VBulletin Forum on my website like this:
/www/mywebsite/wordpress
/www/mywebsite/vbulletin
Right now, my domain points to this folder:
[url]
I have a .htaccess file there which redirects it to the wordpress folder i.e.
Redirect permanent /index.php http://www.mywebsite.com/wordpress
DirectoryIndex index.php
But, I would like my domain name point directly to the wordpress folder like this:
[url]
But the problem when i do that is my "VBulletin" forum get's messed up because then:
[url]----------resolves to--------->
[url]
I m thinking to resolve this issues, I will have to add a subdomain for forums like this:
[url]-> [url]
But I am wondering if I do that, won't it fail again, because it will do this:
[url]-----will resolve to----->
[url]

what's the most practical way to move ALL the content from one domain to another in terms of keeping decent search ranking as well as forwarding to the new domain. Moved Content From Root To Subdomain And Need To Redirect Visitors
I moved my content from www,mysite,com to subdomain,mysite,com. I'd like to direct people who come to my site from search engines to the new location of the content. For example, if they searched for pink purse and the search result was www,mysite,com/pink_purse,html, when they click that link, I'd like for them to redirected to subdomain,mysite,com/pink_purse.html. Root Domain
I have a server that I have a few domains on, and I have a question about the root domain. I initially picked any old domain, so now all of my name servers are pointing to this one random domain. I have since purchased a few more premium domains, and am wondering if I should change the nameservers to be the more premium domains? Does this matter? Should I have my "main site" be the root domain? Just trying to understand what the implications could be for me.

Domain/subdomain
Can I have a primary domain - www.sample.com - point to another primary domain - www.sample.asn.au - but then have the entry point for that domain be a subdomain - www.ccc.example.com? If the primary domain is parked somewhere else, doesn't it mean that all the subdomains will be too? Or do I use a 301 on the primary domain to the .asn.au site? But does that then redirect all the subdomains too?

Googlebot Root Domain
I am just wondering whether my idea will work for the google search engine. Basically, I have my official VPS root (home/admin/public_html/) and this is where my main website will be hosted. However, since my VPS will be used for additional website, I will direct additional domains to it. My second site hosted on this VPS may have a document root of (home/admin/public_html/advertising/). And my domain will then be setup to have that as its document root. However, when google searches for my second site (e.g. advertising.com) will it go 'below' the domain root? For example, will it also creep the files under /public_html/ for this domain, even though the domains root is /public_html/advertising/? edit: Or do people host multiple sites differently? Is this an appropriate method?

Parking A Domain Under A Subdomain
I have 2 domains ie. red.com blue.com. They are both on seperate servers. I want red.com to be a subdomain for blue.com. I went ahead and created an A host for red.blue.com, I then created a virtualhost and everything is working, I can pull up red.blue.com and it pulls up the same data if I were to go to red.com. Here is my issue. I want to have red.com pull up red.blue.com by default so blue.com gets credit for traffic, I am moving red.com and moving it all into blue.com. Hopefully this makes sense. Also, I want to make sure nothing breaks my current search engine results.

Let's say my domain, for which I have shared hosting, is www.mydomain.com I have also registered the domain www.yourdomain.com My hosting has cPanel I add www.yourdomain.com as an add-on domain. Inside my root folder the folder /public_html/yourdomain/ is created. When I create the subdomain subdomain.yourdomain.com, the folder /public_html/subdomain/ is created instead of /public_html/yourdomain/subdomain/ Can I assign the /public_html/yourdomain/subdomain/ folder to be the root of subdomain.yourdomain.com? e.g. I have the file image.jpg at /public_html/yourdomain/subdomain/image.jpg and it's accessed from subdomain.yourdomain.com/image.jpg Is this possible? Having a lot of folders directly under /public_html/ would get annoying for me.

Mapping An External Domain To A Subdomain?
I have a website where users can sign up and create a site. They can access their website by typing username.example.com. However, I would like to add to this the ability to buy a domain name and point it to username.example.com so example.com/guestbook.html would translate to username.example.com/guestbook.html (external domain and associated user are mapped in the database) Do I need my own DNS server for this or is there a simpler solution? Subdomain To Main Domain Moving
I have a domain name as per my sig. I am also creating a subdomain totally in contrast with that site below. My primary domain has one page on it so i would like to: a) delete the one page on my primary domain b) Make the contents of my subdomain my primary domain. e.g my domain is www.info-peep.com, my sub will be example.info-peep.com........i would like to make example.info-peep.com : www.info-peep.com......that make sense, as really the sub will be my main site. Basically wanting to transfer the contents of my sub to my primary. So when people click info-peep.com, it will be the sub's site. Another thing to note is that i am using RVsitebuilder (WYSIWYG) that my web host provides. Also BEAR IN MIND the WYSIWYG editor does not allow me to move pages (sucks) or to copy the page contents.

Where Domain Document Root Settings Are In CPanel?
I've done some manual change of document root in httpd.conf for a user. I know that now, I don't need to to manual change since user can set there own folder! Now, If I rebuild Apache, he will re-do all the configuration to the original one. Where can I find the settings for domain document root so I can change it and EasyApache will rebuild the httpd.conf correctly? I don't want to remove the domain since I'll lost all email account!

Htaccess - Moving Site From Subdomain To New Domain
I have what I think is kind of a unique situation with a site move and Google is not turning up an answer that seems to work. My site is currently in this format: www.mydomain.com/site/file.html And I am "moving" it but also switching from html to php, so the same file would be found at: site.mydomain.com/file.php I want to redirect users going to the old pages to their equivalent on the new site, however this is a little bit of a problem because this is a normal subdomain - it is the same directory as before but now there are php versions of the html files. Right now I have all of the http files redirecting to their php equivilents, but I don't believe this is a desirable solution. Also it creates a problem when people go to www.mydomain.com/site (not indicating a specific file; just the subdir root) because I have www.mydomain.com/site/index.html redirecting to www.mydomain.com/site/index.php. Quite a mess. My first option is to put the redirects in the htaccess file on the "old" site. But is this a problem because there are over 500 pages on the site? Does it create a heavy server load because any requests force the server to serve a huge htaccess file? The next alternative seems the most preferable although I'm not sure how to do it. It seems it could use wildcards so that anyone going to *.html gets directed to *.php or something like that. The only problem is that there are a small number of files that were removed completely and do not have php equivilants (about 5 or 6) and would need to redirect to the index.php in the root

Can Other Hosted Sites Be Access Through Your Domain/subdomain
I'm using a shared host that provides good service and support, but there's one major issue I discovered recently: Other sites hosted on their server are accessible through my domains and subdomain. For example: Account2 on their server can be accessed through: [url] [url] Host says: "Because everything is Name-based, apache decides what directory is going to be used based upon the name that is provided. However, because the username is valid, it treats it as a vaild URL and redirects it to your site. There is no security issue, as this is just the way apache’s configuration works." Is it really normal? Does the same happen on all apache servers? I think SE's would treat the other pages as mine, no?

While Add Subdomain/domain(while Cpanel Edit The Httpd.conf)
When cpanel edit the httpd.conf(to add subdomain/domain/etc) made a wrong. In the lines BytesLog /usr/local/apache/domlogs/domainorsubdomainname.com-bytes_log CustomLog /usr/local/apache/domlogs/domainorsubdomainname.com combined it breaks them as follows -- BytesLog /usr/local/apache/domlogs/domainorsubdomainname.com -bytes_log CustomLog /usr/local/apache/domlogs/domainorsubdomainname.com combined And httpd cannot start and failed.

Folder Structure
i deleted everything from my hosting account. i wanted to delete the content of the public_html, but i deleted everything. i downloaded 3 back-ups from cpanel.. every back-up is different. the thing is.. i cannot make it work back. seems that the email addresses are working, databases and everything seems to work. folder structure of a similar account? i cannot make the web-site to work. the link from www folder is gone. i mean when i copy something to public_html is not copied into www folder anymore.

Dedicated Server - "Zone For The Root Domain Is Missing"

The zone for the root domain ******.com is missing, or could not be read. The ip address will be read from the webserver configuration and a new zone will be created for this subdomain. Shared Hosting Directory Structure
I recently switched from one shared hosting company to another. Both plans included WHM and Cpanel. After gaining access to the new WHM, I created a second domain (the first was established by the hosting company upon startup with a domain name I had just purchased). At that point, both domains showed in WHM; I could access both with Cpanel, and I could properly use SFTP to access the correct /home remote starting directory for each of the two domains. I had provided my new host with a full Cpanel backup of the second domain (the one I just installed on my new account myself) from my old host. That night the new host restored all files including mysql. At this point, I can still access the original domain (established by my new host the previous day) just as I did before. However, now I cannot access the restored domain using SFTP ("can't find directory" error message). I have to use FTP. Also, I can't acccess the proper starting directory. My FTP agents (I've used two) go immediately to /public_html, nor can I go up even one level. This means that I've lost the ability to access two higher directory levels in the ususal /home/mydomain/public_html directory structure. I've used various starting remote directories within my third party FTP agents to no avail. Support is courteous, but stumped. They indicate that the directory structure looks fine from its end. Indeed, if I use Cpanel file management for the problematic domain, I too can see and access /home/mydomain-name, something I can't do using third party agents. I am concerned that security may be problematic with this situation. Even though I can access the suspect domain using Cpanel and see its front end with a browser, I wonder whether there might be issues down the road.

Directory Structure And Addon Domains
I have a shared hosting account. VPS or dedicated is not an option. I use CPanel. For example, www .maindomain. com is the primary domain associated with the hosing account. When adding subdomains or addon domains, a new directory is created in the public_html directory of my hosting account. These new directories hold all the files for the sub domains and addon domains. My problem is that the directory that holds the subdomain or addon domain CAN BE accessed from: [url] or www .maindomain. com/addon_domain_directory/ thus, www .addon_domain. com can be accessed from it's own URL as well as www .maindomain. com/addon_domain_directory/ Is there a solution that DOES NOT allow this to happen? If my main domain could have it's own directory under public_html, that would be great, but I do not know if this is possible. Custom Directory Structure With LxAdmin
I just purchased a new VPS. I don't really like how lxAdmin lays out directories. I am not sure if what I want to do is possible, but I'll ask anyways: /home/ /northwinddesign/ /client1/ /client2/ /client3/ /lib/ This way, when I log in with ftp, I see folders for my site (northwinddesign), all of my clients site (accessible with one click) and my codebase library. Ideally I would like the client1, etc. directories to be the webroots for their domains. However, I'm not sure whether lxAdmin can still manage a directory like that. I'm pretty good with the command line, but I have several clients who want a control panel to see bandwidth, stats, and stuff.

i was wondering (i am sorry is this is the wrong place i would also ask to move it to the right place if this is the wrong one) has any one around had experience with server A with cPanel serving only DNS and HTTP with another server with MAIL and MySQL? what do you use if so ? how did you approch the mail creation and so on? for the dns there is the cPanel tool so i dont think it would be a trouble would it? did you had to leave anything on the server A related to mailserver? Root Vs Su Root
what is difference working as root and su root in SSH.? Many recommend disabling logging as root, but lot many commands ( service, adduser, ifconfig and ...) are not working on the commandline under when logged as su. i feel like my hands are tied working as su root and many commands are not available. why is it like that? is there any way i can feel comfortable logging as su similar like root login.

Reverse Domain Name Server (DNS) ARPA For Domain On VPS
I have a vps with dedicated ip's for my domain names. I read that in order for mails coming from my server not be picked up as spam, i need to add reverse ip entries. Now i have already added the glue nameserver records on my godaddy control panel, ns1.mydomain.com -> 10.20.30.40 ns2.mydomain.com -> 10.20.30.41 But do i need to speak to the datacenter to add the reverse dns entries for my domain on their nameservers? What about if i host my nameservers offsite, but then have my webserver/mailserver etc inside the datacenter? Would i need to request the datacenter where the nameservers are hosted to add the reverse ip entries for the domain, and then the request the same from the datacenter for my web/mail servers to add the reverse entries? Is it really required?

My computer's HDD crashed last night and I only have an old backup. The problem is my new server's root password was stored there and it's 20 digits totally random password. Is there any way to reset the server password by the dedicated server provider? I haven't asked my provider yet.

FTP As Root
I just recently had someone from this forum install CentOS for me with ISPconfig and required modules to successfully run PHPmotion. However, the only FTP I can access are the ones I create FTP for in ISPconfig, such as web1_admin, web1_testuser, etc. When installing a CentOS server with ISPconfig, isn't there a root to log into the FTP? With the FTP accounts that I have, I cannot access public and home directory such as /var/www directories. Is there suppose to be an account for FTP so I can succcessfully overlook the whole server? I want to take a look at all the websites I have such as /var/www/www.test1.com, /var/www/www.test2.com, etc. all through FTP. However, I cannot do this. It's almost like I have no Admin power over my server. He did not provide me with a root FTP account or any super admin FTP account. I am not sure if something suspicious is going on or not. Please help. I do not want to get hacked in and stolen files.

I have no idea where to upload my cpanel backup file to now that I bought myself a vps. It says that I have to upload it to /root but where is that lol? How can I upload it to /root, /usr, or /home (any is fine according to WHM). Both old and new server are powered by Cpanel.

Site Isn't Root,
I have purchased a new domain name (.info) and am using a GoDaddy account to host it. Currently I have a vBulletin forum on this account and the URL (.com) takes people directly to the forum index page as it should. However, I have installed a new site for .info and it appears to be in root for the new domain (I guess this as the ftp client shows nothing in it when I connect to ftp.newdomain.info) but to access the new site I have to use:- mysite.info/mysite/index.php I don't want this, I want it to just be mysite.info to lead to the new site. Can anyone help me with this please, my access to the ftp/host has been granted by my new partner, so prehaps he has set up my access incorrectly, but I just need to install the site into the root of the new .info domain.

Domain Parking - Wildcard Domain Name Server (DNS)?
We have a lot of unused domains that we'd like to setup domain parking for. To keep it simple, we'd like to just change the namesevers to ns1.domainparking.com and ns2.domainparking.com (not real nameservers!) and the domains would then automatically show a simple web page. We use cpanel servers and are wondering how easy this is to do? I've seem mention of wildcard dns? Is that the answer?

i have about 8 different domains i'd like to point to a nameserver (ns1./ns2.mydomain.com) on Win2k3 server, but i can't get them resolved through my nameserver without creating a manual forward lookup entry for each *parked* domain separatly.. Does anyone know how to resolve "parked" domains automatically on Win2k3 DNS?? I just can't find any answer for this, everything i've found required manual creation of lookup entries.. anyone?
