Dedicated Servers With Unmetered Or 30TB+ Bandwidth
Oct 27, 2009
Im running my own file host, and in the past few days its just blown up in traffic. I current have "Intel Core2Quad Q9650" package from Limetone. 3ghz Quad, 8GB Ram, 1TB HD, 10TB BW.
I need something that has either unmetered or 30TB+ bandwidth. It should be on 100mbps lines too.
The closest thing I have found are FDCnetworks

Looking for a dedicated unmetered server to stream movies and audio for over 500 visitors a day. Anybody knows any place that is good?
Also, what kind of hardware specifications would be OK for me - in terms of speed and memory? And would we be OK with a 10mbit port or 100?
Would I survive on a dedicated server with a shared bandwidth?

I was looking at a VPS plan that offered unmetered bandwidth on a shared 100mbit/s port. I thought it was a bit suspicious because it was at a very low price--but would this be what it means?
100mbit/s converts to 0.125 megabytes per second
= 7.5mb/min
= 450mb/hour
= 10,800mb/day
~ 334,800mb/month
= 334.8gb/month
Would that mean that I would be getting less than 334.8gb of bandwidth a month, but it's just filtered through to make sure I don't go over?

I got a question about shared unmetered bandwidth offerings. Currently we specialise in Dedicated Unmetered bandwidth offers but also offer metered.
we see an increase in demand for shared unmetered, with some minor guarantees of troughput. Much in the style of FDC servers. We are toying with the idea, to add a shared unmetered service thats overbooked 1/4 (100 mbit) or 1/6 (gigabit).
The questions.
1.
Are these overbooking rates reasonable? it looks like other companies roughly have these overbooking factors.
2.
What kind of hardware should be bundle with such an offer? obviously its the bargain hunter category (no pun intended) that we would try to appeal to. Would that mean generally lower end servers like ATOMs?

What are the advantages and disadvantages to buy unmetered or fixed bandwidth dedicated?
For burstnet unmetered does it guarantee to have some good bandwidth or it can be very very slow at peak times?
I can find about the same price almost 2TB/month or 10mbps unmetered.

i finally ordered my first dedicated server -previously i had a vps. I ordered at theplanet.com an unmetered 10 mbps - dedicated server but i am now confused, about how much bandwidth 10 mbps really represent?
10 mbps = 3.300 gigas?
20 mbps = means how many gigas?
and the 100 mbps = means how many gigas?
I have a alexa 12.000 site with adult videos that is getting more and more traffic, thats why i decided to get unmetered but stupidly i thought 10 mbps was a lot of more than only 3.3 teras : ( so 20 and 100 mbps means how many gigas?
I am going to pay at ThePlanet for this 10 mbps unmetered connection $200 plus $ 109 for the server pentium 4 512 ram.

BurstNET or FDCServers for unmetered bandwidth?
BurstNET or FDCServers for unmetered bandwidth?
I'm talking about the 100mbit shared bandwidth, who would you reccomend for this fdc or burstnet?
Also do you have any other solutions for cheap bandwidth as I'm trying to open a file hosting website like rapidshare and I'm looking for the cheapest bandwidth.

I am hosting a few websites with my host, powweb.com (shared hosting). Now I am thinking to go for an adult xxx website, and my host is not ready to host an adult website with them, and thus, I am looking for a new host now.
Things are:
1. I have very little knowledge about server management, as till now my shared host was doing everything, so I may need a host who offers a completely managed hosting, including backups, security, etc (just as a shared host would do).
2. I need a host that allows extreme adult contents.
3. The site will be a new one, but I am planning to go for offline marketing and hoping that I will get a good amount of visitors. Also the site will offer online movies. Taking these things into consideration, I am thinking that I may need a host that offers unmetered bandwidth.
I would like to get some tips from you guys, and if any of you know a good host, thanks for letting me know as well.

Do the FDC 100Mbit Unmetered servers use shared bandwidth or dedicated bandwidth?
Because i was looking at softlayer and they charge $2,000/month for a 100Mbit uplink port, yet FDC have this for $159/month.
Is it because fdc's are using shared bandwidth?
Also, does FDC's 100Mbit servers mean you can use as much data as the port allows per month so you'll never be charged excess data?

My friend asked me earlier if I knew any places in EU that allow IRC, have Unmetered 100Mbit (SHARED, not Dedicated), and allow torrents. I didn't know so I come to WHT for help.
The host must have:
Unmetered 100Mbit Shared
IRC Allow
Allow Torrents
DDoS Protection (not required, but is a bonus)
Must be in Europe
I'm unsure if asking this is allowed (since the host must allow torrents), if it isn't allowed please lock the thread.

I Am having a hard time finding decent 3 to 10 MBPS Dedicated servers . I don't really care about the other specs.
I'm specifically looking for them in USA/EU. No canada because the ping is over 150ms (which is inadequate for a game)

Anyone have experience with this connection from iWeb?
From their website:
Quote:
"At iWeb your unmetered port is not shared, if you buy a 10Mbps port,
you are guaranteed to be able to use 10Mbps whenever you need it!"
So I wonder what peaks can you expect from their 10Mbps network,
especially in US and Europe.

I can stay for a long long time, and thus building a strong server by upgrading whenever I have the spare cash to do so. What I'm thinking is a service where it's possible to buy more HD space, RAM or CPU by paying a ONE TIME fee.
Other requirerments is:
- It must come with cpanel/whm
- CentOS or linux OS
- I would prefer if the server is managed, and unmetered.
The server should of course be used for everything from having image host, to downloading via bitorrent. Obviously I'm looking for a host who doesn't put their nose into my business.
Budget: 100-150$

I always thought that 10 mbit unmetered was just a prank or not really dedicated to the server. But damn the server i got from www.kevworks.net totally screamed when doing some real bw tests.
Might try more tests to see if server performs and can provide the bw juice for me.
These are the stats from mrtg i got going :
Max Average Current
In 9853.9 kb/s (98.5%) 311.2 kb/s (3.1%) 4805.5 kb/s (48.1%)
Out 9553.6 kb/s (95.5%) 849.0 kb/s (8.5%) 9553.6 kb/s (95.5%)
Well cannot really post link to the mrtg as wht mods will go "aah bunny no url posting to ur site " crazy !!
So look at the screenie itself
Amazing i was actually able to pull 10mbit/s out of the server. So good work to you Kevin (kev not sure what his name is or am too tired to remember ).
PS: will be doing more bw tests over the next weeks or over the entire month, i am trying to somehow use full 3.3 TB bw over the month. (doing mirrors for distros and other linux stuff can really push the limits at times) Wondering if anyone know of places to get some beta testers to test the server's bw limits (act as mirror for your game maps, linux distros, rpm packages and w/e comes free to download)
Hopefully server wont be shut down cause bunny used the full bw potential ( i have heard horror stories of providers capping servers further and stuff when customers starts pulling too much bw (maybe cause they put server on shared bw or something).

Some information about my forum:
I run a VBulletin forum with - 575,614 post, 14,369 members and 2.9 million page views per month. On average there are 300 - 400 people on the site.
The server right now is a Linux CentOS VPS with 1.1 gigs of memory. The hosting provider keeps telling me that I need a dedicated server.
Question # 1 - In your opinion - do you think its time for a dedicated server?
The server I am looking at has these stats:
E8300
2 GB RAM
250GB HD
cPanel
Management
The price I was given is pretty good. So the offer is going to be hard to pass up.
Question # 2 - Has anyone here used Future Hosting for their dedicated server solution?

I am just colocating servers and managing them myself, and renting services off of them. In the future I would like to start offering dedicated servers as well. I am wondering if many companies do this, or if its more of a general practice to just setup as a reseller? The worst part that comes to mind is thinking of how to do billing for the bandwidth per month. With my setup I would only be offering flat bandwidth packages (like 2TB a month) but even so, I cant think of anyway to automate it so WHMCS knows if they went over, if so, how much, etc.

What's the best solution web-based that I can install on a server to monitor a group of servers, services, bandwidth etc.. I'm thinking of offering a service where for a monthly price we'll monitor your server(s) and notify the data center or client of outages. So I'm looking for something that I can create clients then under them enter servers and items to monitor. Kinda like a NOC monitoring solution?

I've been looking around for hosts with atleast 3mbps dedicated uplink. A shared port but with still a decently fast connection would be good too(incase you tried hosting there and the connection was good than tell me about it).
I tried netrackservers.com so far and they claimed to have 100mbps connection or something like that but it was extremely slow.

I was wondering if this is an unmetered plan or if it is just the connection for the bandwidth someone is offering.
For example, if a company is offering 4000gb of bandwidth, but I upgrade to 20MBPS HIGH-USAGE (DEDICATED/GUARANTEED), is this just the connection for the 4000gb or is this a dedicated "unmetered" plan.
