It has come the time to find out who REALLY IS Zone.net

This is the moment where zone.net is experiencing their worst situation ever. We are all offline since friday, we are all extremely nervous and some of us are even losing clients because of the prolonged downtime. Many of us have sent awful emails to zone.net and there are thousands of complaints arriving continuously to zone.net.

I'm amazed to see how zone.net is behaving in front of this awful & critical situation.

Believe it or not, they are politely answering the emails, they opened a special page where they update everything that's going on so that we all know what's happening and what they are doing, they have a lot of engineers working continuously to solve the situation as soon as possible and they really are devoted to end this nightmare. So this is NOT only our problem -as their customers-, but their problem as well and therefore, we are all together on this and as such we should help each other instead of screaming at them.

Zone.net is showing with facts and with their behaviour that they are a SERIOUS AND VERY DECENT AND PROFESSIONAL company who deserves our support & help because it is nowadays extremely difficult to find decent and professional people like the one at zone.net. The fact that there's a problem today doesn't mean more than what it really is, and that problem we are suffering now has taught us that zone.net is one of the best companies we can possibly find. I'm pretty sure & confident this great people will satisfactorily solve the situation in a short while.

You actually know a company when that company is in trouble. Otherwise they are all great....

Dont Use CALPOP.com

I had my server shut down due to ddos attacks and proxy calls. I am a designer so I dunno what this means so I asked for proof and they said it was archived. I then tried getting my servers back online with them for over the last few hours and they replied we cant help you. I offered $3000usd to fix the problem and they said they cant do it. From where I come from, if a virus is added it can be removed under any circumstances. I then kept on phoning to get my server restored hense I am selling a lot of website property lately and he totally by passed that, I was put on hold for over 20 minutes and I am calling from Canada. I phoned the last time and told a white lie saying I have huge partners ready to boycott their company unless they restore my server....

What do you know it got restored and I got all my sites moved over to the new server, but this is the golden part.

Have you ever phoned your hosting company and been sworn at? Been called a ****ing idiot or to **** off and stop phoning, or I have had enough of your ****ing ****? Well this is what I heard from Ben at CalPOP and that is totally unacceptible hense I am the customer who was about to purchase numerous servers from them to increase my bandwith usage I would be using on my upcomming site called thewetwilly.com.

I dont respect a programming punk thinking he is better then me just because he works for a low end database center. I also dont respect being called an idiot while I am purchasing hosting from the company, aswell as being to to **** OFF. 100% totally unacceptable.

Alot of my friends have experienced poorness with this company and I wish I noticed it earlier instead of taking it the hard way/HARSH WAY.

But hey I am sure my word will get around and people will stop using calPOP due to their immaturity Cali Mr know it all talk and realize that they can find a better place to host their site.

I also have been told that calPOP used the excuse of DDOS and Proxy attacks as an excuse to get rid of you because you are using to much bandwith.

Oh they also told me that they would send me the HD for $100usd so I could move to another server, wtf is that???

Like come on!

Dont Use Powervps

Last month i have problems and outgages with a node in powervps vz45 in the 205.234.106 .20 and in other threads i mention previously that server.
Last 1 october, node have a rare problem and they say in a few days they move accounts to other node.

Because a SERIOUS Problem with my personal life, this last week i dont get backups, and wednesday a thief in house stole my mobile HD (without passswords and ciphered).
The Friday my VPS crash.... and three days later they are restoring the backup... and None of the 140-180 sites yet online.

I read in other thread a more problem about they laterly, but for me is near fatal, because 33% are my best customers (i plan to migrate to other host the server the 15 of the month but for the personal thing i cant.

88 USD monthly and three days to recover the Nodes ?

No way, as soon as possible i go to liquidweb.

i waould like to warn people of a1isp the main fellow thats the problem is called just.

ill start with explaining my issue.

in august last your i bought cabinet space and me and my mum became ill so i was unable to use it. i asked for a refund and he refused so i opened up a chargeback and he threatened a lawsuit unless i cancelled it.i have become alot better now and wish to use that space of which ive paid for and the reply i got from him is we do not want your sort of people here.i take very highly to this comment and wish for other peoples oppinions on what todo and also to warn people of this company i dotn like doing this but im left with no choice

I Dont Like SLHOST.COM

I've been using SLHOST.com for a couple of years, and they used to have great VPS service. My server was always up (I'm not a power user, I just host some small business websites for clients of my web design company - nothing that gets a lot of traffic or puts a strain on the server).

They recently moved locations, and I've had nothing but problems. They somehow screwed up the IP and DNS of the server. My (and my clients sites) couldn't be accessed for over a week! Support kept telling me that there was no problem, unti I proved to them that the DNS wasn't right. I didn't have any email during this period, and either did my clients.

Since then, AT LEAST one of the services on the server randomly stops working (the two big ones are DNS and STMP) a couple of times a day. I don't receive error messages (I know because my clients call me screaming why their email isn't working AGAIN).

As a web design company, I've lost reputability. As a professional affiliate marketer, I have literally lost over a thousand dollars because of the downtime. Every time I contact support, they restart the services and tell me there's no problem with the server (which is obiously not true).

Any suggestions from other webhostingtalk users on how to get better service and a credit from SLHOST.com? I'm not technical and I need a VPS that just simply works.

I recently started monitoring my server 2 days ago with hyperspin. I can post my support emails here as proof and verification that these problems are occuring multiple times a day.

New Subdomains Dont Appear At CPanel

Everytime I create a new subdomain, it appears.. but after I create another subdomain, the first one dissappear and I only can see the last one created..

Dns zone, httpd.conf, localdomains entries are there.. but when (using X3 o or X) I go to subdomain on the cPanel account, Im not able to see anything... anyway, subdomains are working...

Im using RHEL 4 + Latest cPanel 11 Release.

i have taken a dedicated server and have done all the settings but when i point any domain to my server after adding a account the domain doesnt works... I means its not pointing to my server..

My nameservers are pointed to my dedi ips and are working fine but when i point the domains to the nameservers they dont work...

It keeps saying looking up..

when i traced my domain which i am pointing to my server it says no ip address found...

2 Years With Lunarpages And I Have Left ... DONT USE!

While lunarpages is kind and offers great support. The support takes a while. They frequenlty get hacked or block your ip to where you can not access cpanel and switch your servers a lot in the past 3 months i got transfered to 4 different servers with the last one atlantis and prior one belogna. There support can take up to 72 hours to respond back where other hosts at max 24 hours. Their downtime has been around 97% not advertised 99.9%.

This is what really upset me.

I contacted them through email to cancel my account and they said they need more info, ok. Gave them info and they went ahead to renewing the account after I had gave them proper info. I tried to get this resolved for over a week now.

I thought since they renewed my account i should access my account and download my entire site, well I could not access cpanel again, no surprise there.

I just now got off a 20 min phone call and they tried to get my account canceled as I gave proper info to cancel the account so I would not be renewed and they tried to sell me their service for $75 to close my account.

I eventually had to threaten them to press lawsuits "not that I would even if it wasnt handled" and they said we will close your account and not charge you the $75 to do so.

My god! How hard is it to close an account with such service?

When I joined them my first year was absolutely great! It just has started to decline in the past couple months or so.

I rate them at 50% great because their supportive in all areas except for the slow response and canceling an account.

Dont use them ive had much better success with GoDaddy.... wow GoDaddy! I know tell me about it. GoDaddy is not my favorite host.

You need to be careful when finding a host becasue ive learned that they pay to be on the top. I am now using Host Gator with no compaints looking at moving to HostMonster for the price and services though should I?

CPanel / Bandwidth - Calculations Dont Add Up

1. I have loads of these showing up in the WHM Apache service status

I was told that was normal as its apache's MPM prefork way of waking up the worker processes. That I have accepted however it has been problematic ever since I installed mod_security that things have been going ape.

2. The Bandwidth in CPanel and that in Apache does not add up. There is only 1 account on the server. The bandwidth usage in CPanel shows 51GB for the month of July so far, however in WHM under Apache status it shows 223GB of Bandwidth in the last 48 hours.

Now given the the host tells me that CPanel does not count certain bandwidth(?) I am not certain what to think as the difference in bandwidth is a whopping 160GB in the past 2 days.

Php 5.2.1 Dont Work As Httpd Module

I cant make php 5.2.1 work as httpd 2.2.4 and 2.2.3 module. When loaded with php it makes httpd dont start at all without any errors in log even on debug level! However when I place php 5.2.0 as module it immediately starts working ok.

I've tested this with a standart ./configure without any parameters for both php and httpd, and httpd is always not working when it tries to load php 5.2.1 as module.

Did someone run php 5.2.1 with httpd >2.2.3 succesfully?

VPS Server My First I Dont Think Mod Rewrite Works

I finally bought a VPS after not being able to pay for a dedicated server so I bought one from VPSbyte.com as they came highly recomended $39.95 server with Cpanel not the cheapest I gathered but I wanted reliable servers

now I moved my forum over to the server all was ok after I got the massive database sent over but when I tried to view a thread or category I could not it came back with No Valid input or something like that

I went into admin and disabled zoints SEO mod and the forum works fine BTW its a VB forum.

would it be due to mod rewrite that the forum does not work with zoints? and is it possible to get it to work?

CPanel 11, New Mail Filters Dont Work

I had made a post earlier about trying to get an exim ACL or filter to work with cpanel 10 to deny all messages with a 10 or above spam rating while forwarding 5-10 scored messages to a spambox, but I decided to tryout upgrading to CPanel 11 which adds a built-in solution.

I've had no luck using WHM's Exim Configuration editor with

"Reject mail at SMTP time if the spam score from spamassassin is greater than 10.0."

Checked under ACL's and Filters.

We have serveral vps servers from dmehosting.com. I would say never choose dmehosting.com for your sites. A vps server is down for more than 14 hours and still down. They do not reply to my tickets. They do not inform about the issues.

I had have many issues with them like 1 - 2 hours downtime but that's not really matter.

Now the server is down for more than 14 hours and still not up. I have even asked them to transfer this vps server to another working node but they are not responding.

DON'T CHOOSE DME HOSTING .COM FOR VPS SERVERS........IF YOU NEED HIGH UPTIME AND SECURE DATA.

IWeb Technical Support Reps And System Admins Dont Understand Basic TCP-IP Networking

I want to pass on a warning before anyone goes with iWEB. I just ordered a $269 a month dedicated server so I could run vmware on it for my own virtual machines that I need.

With this server I got 7 IPs.

The primary IP they assigned me is say for example: 70.xx.15.171 with a GW of 70.xx.15.161. The secondary ips they issue me are 70.xx.18.249-254. So these are on a completly different subnets.

After talking on the phone to several differnt people including tech support who tells me this will work jsut fine useing thoes secondary ips on my VMs and to not put a gateway address. I talk to my account manager he says to open a ticket that he will forward to their system admins.

This is the ticket I opened.

I just got a new server set up CL-T113-140CL. It was
assigned the primary ip of 70.xx.15.171 with a GW of 70.xx.15.161. My
secondary ips are 70.xx.18.249-254. The server we got from you is a
VMWare host. We need to use the secondary IPs for the Guest VMs. How
ever the primary and secondary IPS are on different subnets and so
the VMs useing the IPs 70.xx.18.249-254 can not talk to the gateway.
I need to have a gateway server IP to use for my VMs.

Please either give me a valid GW address for the 70.38.19.x subnet or
assign new secondary IPs on teh 70.xx.15.x subnet with a SM that can
talk to the 70.xx.15.161 GW assigned.

this is the reply I get back from their system adminstrator

The gateway to be used for your secondary IP addresses is the same as
the one for your primary. You should not have anything to change,
gateway-wise. Just leave the current one as default gateway and
everything should work just fine.

Here is my last reply. I tried to make it real simple for them to understand.

This does not address the issues. Do you even know what a virtual
machine is? It is a virtual computer running on the host computer.
The host computer has a valid ip address of 70.xx.15.171, sm:
255.255.255.224 gw: 70.xx.15.161. The virtual machines (or guest
operating systems) if I assign it the IP address of 70.xx.18.249 SM:
255.255.255.248 with no gateway it is physically impossible for it to
reach the gateway of the host pc 70.xx.15.161. You have to understand
the Virtual Machine operates as a completely separate computer. It
requires its own gateway. with no gateway specified it has no way to
get out of its local subnet to get to the 70.xx.15.x subnet. What
happens if you put two physical computers on one hub. The computer on
port 1 of the hub has the IP info 70.xx.15.171 SM: 255.255.255.224 GW
70.xx.15.161. The second computer is on port 2. It has the ip info
of: 70.xx.18.249 SM: 255.255.255.248 GW: NONE.
How is the pc on port 2 going to communicate with the pc on port
1? This is the exact situation we are in. There has to be a
gateway to route the IP traffic from pc2 to pc1 to get onto the
internet.

Problem Running FreeNX. Session Startup Failed. CentOS 5, Dont Think GNOME Works

I'm not sure why this is happening, but i think its because gnome isn't configured or something. I just had the server installed, and asked for gnome to be installed.

I've searched for an answer for a week, but no one's came up with anything. I can't start my new server to run my business on without this.

Surfspeedy.com - I Hope You Dont Use Surfspeedy

surfspeedy.com is unbelievable. They shut down my VPS without notice and are not answering to support tickets. Can you believe that? I did not host any illegal stuff or anything of course, only normal sites. And they don`t even answer me.

There are a few reasons that you should keep away from surfspeedy.com.

1. Obviously surfspeedy.com is crap.

2. surfspeedy speed is crap, I suspect they oversell.

3. surfspeedy support is crap, a lot of talk, talk, talk, no action.

4. surfspeedy techs are crap that cannot even set up awstats correct.

I should have known this, they get bad reviews everywhere, but they was very sweet talking when I signed up.

Now I am looking for another managed VPS of course. What is the biggest companies that rent out managed VPS ? I will just use the big and old companies from now. I rather pay a bit more. Please advice me. I can even consider a dedicated if it is on a solid company that have very good reputation.

I came in here a couple days back looking for a reliable, powerful, and well priced VPS. I went through a couple companies and one of the first that I really seriously considered was Zone.net.

It's really all about first impressions and zone.net wins this. Their site looks great and definitely made a good impression on me. I had some questions about hosting a Debian VPS; they answered them quickly and completely. Their support is first-class and very personable. I waited on hold for less than a minute, and was instantly directed to a very knowledgeable agent.

After setting up my VPS, I can tell you that my sites get some good traffic and zone.net is handling it all great. Their bandwidth is fast, their servers are first class, and they're definitely the kind of host everybody should have.

I've been through many other hosts in search of a decent VPS and I definitely will be staying with zone.net for a while. I'm not affiliated at all with them, just a very satisfied customer. If you're thinking of opening something with them and would like an honest, third party opinion, don't hesitate to PM me.

I called on their number, but it goes to voicemail. Any one facing the same issue with them?

I just wanted to take a minute to express how happy I am with my new VPS from Zone.net.

There was a minor delay getting my VPS set up and they were upfront and gave me a good credit for it. This is rare in this day and age and I felt I should share how well they communicated.

So far the VPS is screaming and hosting my 3 sites without breaking a sweat.

Ill post a week or month report as I get time. This site helped me find Zone.net, so some more good feedback can't hurt. :-)

Before aweek i was looking from good company to take VPS so i saw here some poeple commend with zone.net. so i take VPS from them they are not to bad they have excellent dealers but the support slow if you issue ticket its will take hours to answer you.

Zone.NET Going Out Of Business

I have multiple valleywag friends who have gone with Zone.NET for server hosting. I decided to do the same a few weeks back and use them as well. I never got my IP and server info and called customer support. No kidding... been 9 days and Level 1 support kees saying someone will get back to me.

So today I call them and ask them if they are going out of biz because customer support is impossible bad, and he basically said yes!!! Wish they would have told me that upfront.

Anyway, wasted a few weeks with them. Now my cohorts and I are on the lookout for some new hosting companies. All recs welcome

DNS Zone Assistance

I'm trying to setup an option on my server. I hope one of you can help me out a tad...

I'm trying to configure my server to allow an option that I usually call wildcard DNS. I need any domain that's pointed to a server to go to a parked page (just like a welcome to <domain> it's coming soon). I can do the parked page, just need to figure out the DNS/Apache settings.

I know it can't be too hard but I just can't find it...

Editing A DNS Zone

to edit a DNS Zone (via WHM=> DNS Zone Edit) of a domain hosted on my server & which NS's are routed to.

New setting should route domain to a seperate server (i.e HTTP, FTP) and leave EMAIL on my server.

I've changed all settings, except MX & mail CNAME, to the new IP (This includes NS's, A's, CNAME's - WWW & ftp). Still the WWW is not working and email has stopped working localy.

A few months ago, I helped a client setup some services on a VPS provided by zone.net. The setup process was easy and the VPS was activated very quickly. The online support staff is very fast at answering any questions I throw their way. I'm also impressed with their online customer portal -- very well organized.

Reliability has been perfect (as far as I can tell). The VPS is very responsive and obviously not overloaded. The price is very reasonable.

Anyone out here using zone.net for VPS hosting?

I'm considering their VM200 fully managed package. Via current special it's a little over $50/month. 1024 MB SLM (Guaranteed), 30 gig disk, 300gig transfer. 6 ips. This includes cpanel or plesk. I also like the fact that they offer incremental upgrades.

Sounds good, but being a newbie, I just don't know. I really want a reliable host with good support. I don't see too many reviews on them here... is that good or bad?

I'm also considering Liquidweb.

1 Year At ZONE.net

I wrote a while back about my 9 month experience with ZONE.net, and now certain circumstances have come up that have brought the need for me to to move to a different datacenter in southern California. However, my experience "in the ZONE" was exceptional, and I didn't want to walk out on them without a final word here on WHT to let everyone know what a wonderful time it was hosting with them.

In June of 2007 I was beginning to grow my own web development & client solutions business and decided it was time to move from a shared box to a "more private" VDS. I don't jump into things quickly however, so I had planned a week or so of research for the best price/quality/service combination. I spent days on here reading reviews, checked out 20 or 30 different companies and websites, and pitted plan against plan.

Eventually I narrowed it down to "the top three" and finally went with ZONE.net. They lured me in with some amazing deals in the "VPS Offers" advertising forum here, and I liked seeing the activity of their sales guys on WHT.

As you'll see echoed over and over again by happy customers on this forum, I wasn't disappointed by my choice. Throughout the year I filed some 16 support tickets which were all dealt with swiftly and as expected. As my company began to grow, I even went through migrating to a larger VPS plan with them, which was handled perfectly and went through effortlessly. I've "scaled-up" with other hosting companies in the past (when I worked for another company) and have had horrible experiences (plans change and prices fluctuate and you can't always get the same kind of deal you had before), but these guys were wonderful and everything went through without a snag.

Their network is quick, their support is amazing, and their prices are incredible. For clients of mine who need a VPS, I always recommend the ZONE. You won't be disappointed.

Cancelling Zone.net VPS

I've found my previous _immediate_ cancellation request was deleted by support as it never existed. My tickets (Ticket ID: 868231, 453438, 719425) are unanswered. I sent 3 emails to admin@zone.net and sk@zone.net and had no reply. I created high priority tickets to sales@zone.net, billing@zone.net and even abuse@zone.net. Only abuse@zone.net replied me that he "forwarding your ticket to our billing department and they will get back to you shortly".

Instead of terminating my acc billing generated a new invoice generated after 2 days I requested immediate cancellation.

Domain Without DNS Zone

Is it possible to change the name servers of a domain to point to my server and I will then automatically see the domain on my server, without having to create a DNS zone for it?
