CreativeVPS/CreativeRACK Dedi

Apr 2, 2009

I would like share my experience with CreativeVPS/CreativeRACK, I've been around this forum for a while now but rarely post and I never shared my bad experiences but sometimes it is necessary to do so that others would know and maybe improve the service people get. Forgive me if I misspell and the bad grammar English is not my first language.

I currently have a a VPS with Servint which is Great
but lately I felt it wasn't enough and was thinking moving up to a small dedi and yesterday (March 31 2009) I found "[CreativeRACK] Closeouts! DUAL CORE / 2GB RAM / 250GB SATA - $59 (Managed!)" under "Dedicated Hosting Offers"
the offer looked good and Joseph r00ter been around the forum for a while now and has a nice posts counts so I decided to go for it so yesterday March 31 2009 I talked to Joseph on the messenger, he was nice and near midnight(thumbs up to Joseph for working late) I ordered the "last" Intel Pentium D 925 for $59.95+$20 cpanel, he emailed me the invoice I paid it right a way.

I woke up in the morning <--thats how I actually look in the mornings , and saw that Servint had upgraded all the packages, which changed things to me and I decided not to move to a dedi and stay some more with servint. so I opened a high priority ticket to cancel the order, before my morning coffee . the response I got was "Payments made to CreativeVPS are non-refundable as it says in our Terms of Service, which you were bound to when you placed the order..." later that day I messeged Joseph but he said the same thing and that they already bought the hardware *reminder* it was closeout clearance sale server* and that I'm obligated to their TOS that stated that there no refunds.
he quoted "Q: Do you have a moneyback guarantee?

A: Due to the amount of fraud orders we get, we do not offer a moneyback guarantee."
from the offer page.

the worst thing in my opinion is that when I stated that there is no visible link to the TOS on their "Legal Information" page which contained AUP and SLA which did not say anything about refunds Joseph just changed the page.

I can post the entire conversation if needed.

Unfortunately I had to open a dispute with Paypal, I hate doing it and before this incident I only charged-back only once (when RegisterFly charged my credit card and closed their business)

aside the legal part there is a right way to run a business and handle clients, this is not it. you need to be fair and honest. and not just profitable.

CreativeVPS/CreativeRACK Dedicated Review

Apr 29, 2009

On approximately March 28th, 2009 I signed up with CreativeVPS for a dedicated server. The Specs were a Core2Quad Q9400 w/ 4GB DDR2 RAM, 250GB HD, 2000GB Harddrive.

I spoke with Joseph(r00ter) for over two hours and he was very helpful with every question I had regarding service and support. He even worked out a special deal for me that eased the wallet for the first month of service.
Pre-Sales I give an A++ it was excellent

Upon having my server setup, I made custom nameservers and then had to submit a ticket in order for rDNS to be setup. I submitted a ticket and it was taken care of within 30mins by a Tech named Todd Abrell who responded by confirming that they were pointing correctly.
I then submitted another ticket to have my site migrated from GeekStorage onto the new server again the ticket was answered and completed within 30mins. HOWEVER the tech Todd Abrel did not bother to put in the website in the browser to make sure everything was correct and my site would not load.

I issued another ticket at 3:01AM and did not recieve a response until 7:41AM the issue was completed at 8:00AM. My site was down for 5 Hours.

Once the site was finally up I proceeded to email the community members and had all AOL, GOOGLE, and YAHOO emails bounced back to me due to them not finding a reverseDNS which was supposed to have been setup previously. The owner Joe(r00ter) and I worked through this issue and he got the rDNS setup correctly, but Yahoo had blacklisted my IP's due to the original issue so now im having to create a privacy policy, and TOS among other things to show them that I am not a bulk email soliciter. Sure they may be smart things to have but they were originally unnecessary for my little community of drunken gamers.

This is all in the matter of two days. So im finally all worked out except Yahoo when I recieve a server message that my harddrive may possibly be failing soon. WOW! Great! Talk about putting a cherry on top. Issued a ticket at 7:44AM and did not recieve a response until 4:30PM. Almost 9 hours. During the business day.

The other day I went to pay my invoice and I notice that my 4GB server is actually a 2GB server. I ask Joseph about this and he tells me to run a command in Linux shell to make sure its not just a typo on the website. No it is infact only 2GB. Joseph responds that he will check into it, "when he has a chance"

24/7/365 Fully Managed Support: D I give a D because there was support, however if it was after midnight I was forced to wait until atleast 7:00am for a response, and on the quick responses neither of the issues were handled correctly. Another issue sent in during the day again waited 9 hours. So there was support but it was horrid.

So I contact Joseph today after paying my bill for the coming month and wanted to tell him that if unless these issues could be resolved this would be my last month with the company. I relayed him the above information and was basically told that im the only one having these kinds of support issues(Really?) the last 25 Tickets and some were overnight were answered in a timely manner. (of course they were)

And upon further talking he disappeared on the phone for 2 hours evidently with a Level 3 Admin about a new bandwidth contract.

I was offered a $20.00 credit for the time my server was without the other 2gb of ram. Nothing in the terms of my issues with support. Which I was not looking for monetary credit. I was looking for assurances that these things would not happen again. I got none.

I hear that CreativeVPS is a great VPS provider, and I cannot comment on that service. however my stay with them as a Dedicated Customer has been horrible. They claim to be 24/7/365 Fully Managed Support and it is anything but that.

I will say that my site(only thing on the server with less than 100 visitors a day) is blazing fast lol.

Just my .02 if you are going to go with CreativeVPS/CreativeRACK I suggest making sure you can do your own managing at all times.

CreativeVPS Review

Jan 3, 2009

Been with these guys for almost a month and a half now. I saw their black friday deal and it was too good not to take up on. It's been a pleasant experience. I put in tickets in the middle of the night and those guys must not sleep because they answer in less than 20 minutes.

Anyways, to the performance..

Overall, the power of their VPS's are pretty good. My sites havnt had any downtime from what I can recall and any CPU intensive applications run well. The network doesn't seem to bad- fairly low pings all around. One complaint is that the port speed (of at least the package I got) is pretty low. Seems that the max upload speed is capped around ~500kBytes/sec. Parallels tells me I'm using almost 200% of my bandwidth at that speed.

Review

Being new to the whole VPS scene they helped educate me on what I need, the process, and some of the basic administration of a VPS, such as SSH access, ect. I am very thankful because of that, it was helpful being a new guy to a VPS, up from Reseller and Shared hosting.

The account was setup within a day, would have been sooner although I screwed up on my Gmail account, so don't order a VPS at 1:00 AM Anyways, process was quick, payment was accepted, logins e-mailed, I was all setup.

Whenever I have had to submit a ticket to support the wait hasn't been long at all, same with IM support great too. Might add its fully managed, although I like to handle this stuff myself so the guidance they provided was great.

Pretty far I have had a positive experience with them, no major complaints. Although its been a month and a half its been a positive one, the only complaint is the high price tag, which is the reason I am forced to leave, because its out of my budget. I am sure they will improve there business more over the years, and look to see it grow.

If anybody is considering them I would recommend them, very helpful, IM support almost at anytime of the day, if your on the East Coast. Fast setup, maintain communication via tickets and IM, I haven't called in yet though.

Only downside...

Recently as of the end of August I get a daily e-mail from IDF (firewall) saying someone tried to login to SSH and they were banned. Within the last week or so I have had 1 DDoS attack they warded off by nulling the IP addresses of my box, and making it unavailable for quite some time. Electrical maintenance they said was preformed a few days ago, server was offline for the morning and late afternoon. Still random DDoS attempts and China trying to break into my SSH.

They said they were going to implement a hardware prevention thing, although no clue on the status of that.

I mean its not a big issue, not saying its going to happen elsewhere, nor should you completely rule them out because of this just want to post a fair review.

Conclusion
Personalized support
Fast Setup
Issues resolved quickly
Great hardware
Random SSH brute attempts
Attempted DDoS attack
Recent maintenance issues

CreativeVPS Review

Dec 17, 2008

Let me first start off by saying I had been with my previous host for over a year and half and switching hosts was something I was reluctant to do.

I came across CreativeVPS.com and everything on the outside was all I needed to switch.

Their plans and pricing are very competitive and their specials are insane.

Once I saw they were running a special it was enough to get the switch started.

SLM RAM: 768 MB
RAID-10 Storage: 40 GB
Premium Bandwidth: 600 GB
IP Addresses: 2
Full Management
cPanel/WHM

All of this for 29.95/month. My previous host could not even touch this offer.

While everything was great on the outside, I hoped everything internally would be great as well, such as service, support and the overall network.

Once my account was set up, (which was fairly quick) I asked them to migrate my files over to my new server. This was done quickly and I could not have been more pleased.

This definitely eased my initial fears of switching hosting companies.

Since then I have sent numerous support tickets in the wee hours and during the day and have dealt with Zach and Todd. They are quick and efficient, that is about all I can say. I have never had a problem that they could not deal with in a timely manner. Most of my tickets have been replied to in under 5 minutes and on more than one occasion I have had a reply in 1 minute!

I have also dealt with one of the owners; Joseph Fasone. He is very knowledgeable and was a major reason for my switch to CreativeVPS.

To my knowledge I have not encountered any downtime and the speed of the server is very satisfying.

All in all I am completely satisfied with my experience thus far and look forward to building a sound business relationship with CreativeVPS for many years to come.

We cannot really control if some countries can load the VPS or not, it is indeed up. We can try a reboot though, give me just a moment.

CreativeVPS 1 Month Review

Dec 9, 2007

Hey All! After my first venture with CreativeVPS, and posting about it after only 12 hours of use or so, I decided to signup with them to give them a 100% truthful review. (Not saying last time wasn’t )

Signup process this time was kinda slow, because they were adding another machine, and I was going to be provisioned on the new box *yay me* I think I got setup 24hours later, because the account provision didn’t go as planned, or something like that. I IM’d Joe and he gave me a BIG time apology!

After the IM, Joe got my account provisioned right away, and he kept right on apologizing (It’s understandable, things go wrong sometimes!) He got cPanel installed and the VPS secured upon provision.

Since creation, I haven’t had to submit a support ticket, the only one that I submitted to them was when I asked when my VPS would be setup. All responses were quick (we’re talkin under 5 minutes) and those tickets were towards the nighttime

If I ever need anything, I can ask Joe on AIM. He gives a personal view to the hosting industry IMHO. All responses are personalized, and aren’t just some dumb canned response. The servers are fast, I run 3 proxies and host a couple friend’s sites on the VPS (x1 Plan, the basic one, with no upgrades) and it handle’s it just fine.

Backing up the first review, I still give a thumb’s up to creativeVPS, and they still know their stuff! I’d recommend them to even the newest of people to a VPS, they’ll be there to help you along the way (I sure don’t know EVERYTHING, and everything’s a learning experience (another reason why I got a vps).

I would have to break thing’s down into the following groups:

Support: 10/10
Pricing: 10/10
Speed: 9/10 (Can sometime’s be a lil laggy, but quickly resolves *might be my internet, not sure*)
Setup: 7/10 (Because of the 24 hour setup time)

To the Mods: The main server domain is stylecp.net

Reload A Dedi

Mar 11, 2008

I asked my host to reload/rebuild my dedicated server as I wanted to clear my entire server so that I can used it for a brand new project but I was told that it would cost me $75 per server.

Am I able to engage a freelancer to do it rather than getting my hosting provider? I would also need to change the server hostname from www1.xxx.com to www1.yyy.com and the name server to be changed to ns1.yyy.com and ns2.yyy.com instead of ns1/2.xxx.com. In short, I do not want yyy.com to be traced back to xxx.com at all. I do not want a traceroute, cpanel or other means to link the two site together.

Add A Domain To My Dedi Box

May 12, 2007

About 4 days back i ordered and got a Xeon dedicated box from Softlayer

BUT i am stuck adding one domain. First i tried making a new account for this domain through WHM but problem was not solved, so today i parked this domain to a domain's cPanel account but after that also problem was not solved

So, let me first explain you whole problem. Suppose my domain is my-domain.com

This domain my-domain.com was added to shared hosting account at ace-host.net. But after purchasing dedicated server, i shifted whole site data to new server and changed the nameservers of my-domain.com with new ones and atlast i removed this domain from my Ace-host.net account.

Then i waited for about 2days to domain to propagate with new server's namesevers. But when nothing happened (i checked the domain whois record, they were showing my new server's nameservers), atlast i contacted Softlayer regarding this and after sometime they replied We have given the correct server alias for your domain my-domain.com in apache configuration and it was working fine that monent.

But after sometime i checked that my-domain.com is loading fine but it is taking whole data (including database and templates) from my OLD HOST ... Ace-host.net!

As i have already mentioned that i have already deleted my-domain.com from Acehost account and also updated the my-domain.com's nameservers with new dedicated server's.

And i checked many times WHOIS records from different websites at that moment. All were showing nameserver records of my new server.

I now contacted PSM and they after sometime replied that its working now as they just had to restart dns server.

BUT NOW , today again samething is happening! (on the 4th day)

so, i terminated my-domain.com's account from my server's WHM. and then parked in other domain cPanel account on same (Softlayer) server but still problem is still there!!

Domain is registered at Namecheap.com

NOTE: I am not saying anything against PSM or Softlayer and their support staff. They are both THE BEST in the market! and they have helped me a lot manytimes.

I also have two more domains on this new server and both are working fine from very first day. They are registered with local registrar not with namecheap.

Email On My New Dedi

Dec 6, 2007

i've purchased a dedicated box with Plesk webhosting, but i can't get the email forwarding services to work

The domain is registered with Domainsite, set in plesk to forward admin@domain.com to my gmail... and it doesn't work no matter what i try...

First settings i tried( I use domainsite's nameservers and set the dns in there, if you know a better/other way, please reply) blanked out the last 2 chars of the ip just in case

Code:
Record Type Record Host Record Answer TTL Priority (MX only) Create Date
A *.domain.com 84.244.-.- (delete) 300 2007-11-10 07:43:03
A domain.com 84.244.-.- (delete) 300 2007-11-10
well that didn't work, so i figured i needed a MX record

I added:

Code:
MX domain.com 84.244.-.- (delete) 300 10
but it still didn't work( i did wait a few days after each change)

Then i tried the domainforwarder from Domainsite itself
which added 2 records:

Code:
MX domain.com mx0.domainsite.com (delete) 300 10 2007-12-01 12:17:37
TXT domain.com v=spf1 a mx ~all (delete) 300 2007-12-01 12:17:37

but it still doesn't work

i'm also getting mails bounced back with the line: "Reverse DNS lookup for your IP address is failing."

what changes need to make?

Which DC Should I Resell Dedi Servers

Jan 3, 2009

I had shortlisted a few, although there may be more choices..

SoftLayer have lesser discount, but they have an excellent DC, hardware & more~
Gigenet have up to 30% discount and 15% at least, which is a plus, but I'm not sure about other stuffs, although they are also pretty reputable around..

LimeStoneNetworks have very little discount, and their servers are cheap, but their specs are pretty much *fixed*, and they do not seem to offer as much as the above..
HandyNetworks have cheap servers too, but they are not as competitive with the above 3, in the sense that they are not much interested to join the competition, remaining on their own track completely..

HiVelocity - No information, although their requirement is pretty simple..
Take2Hosting, although they have really cheap servers, their datacenter isn't as advanced as the others, and... Cogent... IMO more suitable for personal use, small sites etc.

IMO I will prefer SoftLayer, but their servers are quite expensive, so even if I get 4 dummy servers, which cost $119(their cheapest server) and multiple by 4 is $476, and get a server used to sell hosting, it will not be cheap.. However, on the other end, Gigenet has cheaper servers(especially their specials, really better than SL), although their entry server is $154, which I suppose everything will balance out, I just can't think of anything they can be better than SL, in terms of network, support, server administration(I heard and tried SoftLayer's portal to manage the server, it was excellent!) etc.

I will actually love to resell Gigenet servers, since it is a lot cheaper(in terms of discount), and their prices are roughly the same(except SL RAM is more expensive)..

Nov 4 12:31:22 gandalf kernel: ll header: ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:00:1a:4b:3a:7e:23:08:06
Also the firewall stopped the port scanning from a server within the same dc.

I checked it on google and the explanation's varies but most say that is a problem of the router/switch or similar.

It didn't restart. I restarted the webserver running "/etc/init.d/httpd restart". I even rebooted the dedi. Still, no iptables.

Lightweight Services On A VPS/Dedi

Jun 1, 2008

I was wondering if it's feasible to run a VPS/Dedi server entirely on lightweight alternatives. I.e:
nginx/lighty/litespeed instead of apache
php/fastcgi or php-litespeed instead of mod_php
tinydns instead of bind
and so on...

Is it a viable solution? Is anyone running their hosts on these alt servers? What is your experience?

I'm specially interested in nginx (lighty has been accused of leaking memory, and litespeed std is feature-limited). What's your verdict on running it as a stand-alone server for php-fastcgi and static contents?

Wixed Hosting, Anyone Using Them For Dedi's

Oct 3, 2008

I have been following there posts in the offers section of wht for a few weeks now, I've contacted RN-DAVID a few times about his offers and the response has always been fast and the service sounds good, however i would like to know what everyone else thinks.

I'm looking to order two servers from them with the following specs:

Server 1:
AMD Sempron 3000+
2GB DDR2 RAM
1X 120GB SATA II HDD
1X 160GB SATA II HDD
2 IP Addresses
Windows Server 2003 Std
3TB CAP on a 100Mbps Line
Priced @ £40.95 PM with £20.00 Setup for RAM and Second HDD

This server will just be for my personal use really, I'm planning on backing up some of my personal data to it, photos, documents etc... I'll be using it via remote desktop mainly so doesn't need to be top spec.

The second server is going to be an additional Cpanel Web Server With the following spec's

Intel Core 2 Quad 6600
4GB DDR II RAM
2X 500GB SATA II HDD'S (RAID)
8 IP Addresses
CentOS
CPanel
3TB on 100Mbps Line
Cost £69.95PM + £120 For RAM, HDD & Raid Card Upgrades

Now when it comes to value for money both servers seem fantastic to me, but what I would like to know is does anyone else use them? what are your experiences with them? whats there support like? etc...

Comparing VPS Vs Dedi Plan...

Sep 6, 2008

I am trying to make a decision on switching from my current VPS hosting to a dedicated solution. If I rent the server in the next 24 hours from Theplanet, I can get a Celeron 2.0+ with 1GB of ram and an 80GB hd for $74/month (plus $25 setup). $15/month of that is for doubling the ram to 512MB, so I could get the same without that for $59/month.

Comparisons:
VPS: 2 1.6Mhz Dual-Core AMD Opteron Processor 2210 HE's, I don't know how many people share that
Dedi: Celeron 2.0, all mine. (and yes, I know that is potentially a bit of a downgrade)

VPS: 512MB ram and 1024MB swap
Dedi: 1024MB ram (guessing I set my own swap size?)

VPS: 25GB allocated space
Dedi: 80GB hd

VPS: 1.5Mbps connection
Dedi: 10Mbps connection

VPS: CP+ control panel
Dedi: None included (could install Webmin myself, which is free, never used it before though)

VPS: Their DNS servers
Dedi: Need to use my own

So basically the parts I don't know the difference between would be the processor, the control panel, and what the performance impact on running primary and secondary DNS servers on the same box as the webserver. Anyone have any feedback on those points?

Separate question... assuming I go for it, what would be the deciding factors on OS, if the choices were CentOS 4.x, CentOS 5.x, FreeBSD 6.3, or FreeBSD 7.0?

New Dedi Server - Memory Not Going Below 87%?

Oct 7, 2007

I've recently purchased a new dedicated box and am noticing via phpsyinfo that memory is pretty much always around 87% (It was at 97% used today for a good hour and quite often its at 90+%)

This system has a 1GB of ram, and runs DirectAdmin. There are only 4 sites on the server and none of them are busy sites currently.

I've read around and studied a few of the threads here on WHT regarding high memory usage but I am at abit of a loss on the cause here and what I can do.

I found a few commands to run to help try and establish the cause - After running ps aux I noticed:

I don't really understand the results above, I can obviously see the ps aux shows some high percentage of memory used by some processes -

Dedi For A High Quality VPN Provider

May 19, 2009

I'm about to start a premium VPN service provider, i've found that far too many people in this area are content with providing 100kb/s download speeds and poor reliablity, and think I can provide something better.

I'm currently evaluating options for the hosting i'll need. Initially i'd only be looking at 1 or 2 high bandwidth servers from a quality provider(in the US), on a monthly contract - obviously with the capacity to increase this as and when business becomes a little more established.

I've looked at 10tb.com, and a few uncapped 100Mb providers (Sharktech and others). Obviously I can see the 10tb cap on a gigabit port being a potentially expensive issue - how do they measure this bandwidth? I've noticed that several companies are now only counting the upload which would help me alot, is this standard? Additionally, and considering that i'm specifically NOT going to permit p2p usage in my TOS, would I be correct in assuming that providers will have no issue with this form of service over their network?

Finally, to the more experienced folk here, who would you choose... and why?! Given that i'm marketing this as a premium service, cost isn't the most important factor, but obviously it is one of the considerations.
