The first thing i'm thinking of is cpanel but there's many others If you're runing a server with 5000gb traffic/bandwidth per month When you're creating hosting accounts, could you allow 5000gb in
each new account you're creating?
Like if you had unmetered, you'd put unmetered in every new account Considering no account would ever reach any way near their monthly allowance.
I installed WHMCS on my server and for some reason it is not creating the account in WHM after someone signs up. I tried installing Cp creator as well and for some reason that is not working either. So I now know the issue is is somewhere in the communication between the gateway and WHM. I am guessing WHM is where the problem is located, but then again I do not know. If you have any ideas please tell me because I am in need of whatever I can get. I am losing patience with this because I have been trying to setup this server for over a week.
I have a web site, where users sign up and edit there account settings using a web based form application.
These users will be uploading large files to my server, and as of right now they are uploading the files using a file upload form. The problem is it takes a really long time to upload them.
So my first question is will using ftp be significantly faster than using the web form http upload?
Assuming its faster to use ftp:
The big files that the user uploads get stored in a directory in the website directory right now, so that they would be accessible via www.mysite.com/user/files/ . There is an ftp account used to control that entire domain and all the files in it.
So if i were to create another ftp user, how would i go about allowing them to access a specific diretory in another users home directory.
When creating cPanel shared accounts under a VPS account, do you create them under the root WHM or do you create a "ficticious" reseller account and place the shared accounts under the reseller WHM? Are there any advantages or disadvantages using either method?
i own a smal lVPS and am offering some people reseller hosting. My VPS runs plesk and unfortunately i have only had experience with cpanel. How can i make the users be able to create other accs like a reseller?
I have noticed that for each new subscription I create Plesk automatically creates an FTP account. Further; I cannot delete this. (It seems the Remove button would allow me to delete additional FTP accounts but not the one added when the subscription was created).
I would like:
1) To delete these system created FTP accounts
2) To prevent it doing this in future. I would like to create subscriptions without FTP accounts.
I'd prefer to do it this way and leave the FTP server running. However; I am wondering about disabling FTP access altogether if I have to. I do use SFTP. I'm afraid my Linux knowledge is so limited I don't know if SFTP uses the FTP server; so if I turned off the ftp server whether that would prevent sftp access?
The motivation for doing this is that while I have 'customers' and subscribers in fact I am the only user and will transfer files to the server by SFTP and then move them around the server logged on via SSH. Since I'm not using FTP it seems sensible not to have all these accounts floating about.
As I read, when Plesk and WHMCS are in the same server, you may have 502 bad gateway errors when creating an account through WHMCS..Page not Found/Timeout/502 Bad Gateway error creating accounts with Plesk 10+..By default Plesk 10 and above performs a forced restart of apache when an account is created or suspended which causes WHMCS to lose connection to the server, and if your WHMCS is on the same server, you will also lose connection to WHMCS at the same time.
In order to resolve this please refer to the following knowledgebase article for instructions on configuring Plesk to perform a graceful restart instead: URL..
But when I activate nginx in Plesk the 502 bad Gateway problem comes back.Is there an option to activate Nginx graceful restart in Plesk?
how can i create directories in my (public_html / htdocs folder) that have disk space and traffic quota?
i activated the disk quota to the native linux file system and i tried to create a user but i could not put this user in any folder in the public_html (i dont know how to do this) also there is no option to create bandwidth quota..
one more detail is that the folders need to be protected with login and password because people may try to enter this folders (e.g. www.mydomain.com/protectedfolder)
all this using webmin or another free good script.
how can setup a monthly bandwidth quota for unix users ? Is there any tool that can measure the in/out bandwidth for all /home/* directories ? For eg if a user wget a file of 150mb , i should be able to track it. I want also to track bandwidth for a user, using dynamic port forwarding via putty.exe.
I hired a full time web designer to help me create the site but I'm wondering what else I'm missing.
I'm guessing I'm going to need a high end dedicated server with an 100mb unmetered port? How much space should I be looking for? The file size is going to be limited to 150mb per download and if the files have not been downloaded in 2 weeks they will be deleted. What type of HDD space should I be looking for?
I am using streamline.net to host my domain but i am looking to switch for something better (more storage space, cpanel control, extras) I used their built in web design service to create my web page instead of an outside web builder and i would like to find a hosting company that has this service. i don't want to be paying extra for this (i mean a lot of money) as i am not a business user.
creating a setup that will host a site which is expected to receive 50-60K visitors in the first few hours after its launch. The site is membership based and the backend (member system) runs on PHP5-MySQL5.
Here is what I have thought of until now.
Site's sales page (which also happens to be the first page that visitors hit) hosted with Amazon S3 service. All public media files are off loaded to amazon S3 service to keep the number of requests on the hosted setup to minimum.
At the front we can have a high performance firewall like Cisco ASA 5520 followed by two dedicated load balancers in Active/Active state.
Behind the load balancers we have 3 front end servers acting as web-servers. These have SAS disks, 4GB RAM, RAID 1 setup, Dual Xeon Quad core processors each.
Behind the front end servers - we have a dedicated load balancer for the database cluster.
The database cluster consists of 3 Storage/API nodes and one of the front end servers acts as the management node. Each storage node has 8GB RAM, Dual Xeon Quad core processors, 4x RAID 10, SAS setup.
The private network is on a GigaLan.
Do you see any possible/obvious flaw in this design or anything that should be added/subtracted from the setup?
I know that after you have been running a site for a while you will have some "clutter" after a while. For example, email boxes that are not used might be taking up a lot of space because they are getting spammed.
I am the IT Director for a Furniture Manufacturing Company. I would like to establish relationships with Web Hosting Professionals that can provide me with multiple hosting accounts. Each must be on a different subnet. They do not require dedicated IP's. These accounts will be used to back link to a master domain. I can assure you that there will be no spamming or other unscrupulous activity on these accounts. Our company has been in business since 1862. I welcome this community to give me feedback thoughts ideas etc..
I know bluehost.com "sort of" does this. If you use more then x % of the total CPU or memory of the server, then your account will be limited automatically.
(A page is displayed saying that the page you're trying to view can't be displayed because it is using too much resources.)

I just tried westhost. Very nice folks, good reviews, worth a shot. I signed up for a regular hosting account that allows multiple domains. That didn't work for email. An email user has access to email under that users name for all domains attached to the account. so you can't have info@abc.com, info@def.com, etc. One info@ per account. I did find a hack for it, but it wouldn't work with web mail.
So now I need to find a host that separates mail by domain WITH webmail.
This is getting so tiresome. I have a VPS with "the planet", but so many things just don't work out of the box. I've been fighting with them about PHP not sending mail for months. DNS problems everytime I setup a new domain. There has to be an easier way!
15 domains, everything needs to work. I don't want to manage anything. No resellers. The company I host with will own the data center.
I recently came across a banner which said 750 GB hostin and 7500 GB monthly bandwidth for only few bucks a month. I just want to ask what they are doing ? Is 750 GB hard drive available in market ? I don't see any when I goto purchase a dedicated from dedicated server comapnies.
Earlier i thought it was a gimmick and then a friend of mine had hosting from there..when I logged into the panel then it also said: 750 Gb space etc.
So I am just curious how they are doing it ? Oh Also this is just for 1 client..so they might be hosting alot of clients on the same server. How they are doing it ? Whats the benefit ?
Makes me crazy..where we low end people will go ? Please tell me whats the catch in the plan?
I've always used German hosts because they are much cheaper than my homeland Greek alternatives, the latency (70ms Germany vs 30ms Greece) is bearable.
Until recently I used Strato single cpu dedicated servers, which allowed me 2000gb at 100mb/s. Although I came close, I never actually reached that 2000gb allocation.
Ever since moving to 1und1 (to a quad core) the server's speed difference has attracted more visitors and pageviews. Now my bandwidth usage has gone to 3000gb per month and at peak it requires 20-30mb/s.
The problem is that 1und1 limits you to 10mb/s if you go over 1000gb, and then requires 'resetting' it every 250gb in order to get back to 100mb/s speed.
Does anyone know of a european host that offers truly unlimited bandwidth? Every time I hit the 10mb/s limit, my pageviews go down, users leave the site.
I've contemplated writing a simple heartbeat script that polls the control panel every 5 minutes and checks if the limit has been crossed, at which it will automatically reset it for me.
I have a dedicated server currently hosted over by Aplus.NET
I have a 3000 GB Monthly Transfer limit and we have been going over this limit for the past few months. This has resulted in a large sum of overage fees.
I am looking to go to another hosting company that is just as good as Aplus.NET, if not better... with a better traffic rate. A friend told me about Choopa.com and I wanted to know how good of a company they were. What are some other top reliable hosting companies with premium servers and that specialize in unmetered bandwidth?
