Apache :: Threads Stuck In Logging State

Aug 2, 2013

I have Apache 2.4.6 x64 installation. With the lapse of time, more and more threads appear that are stuck in "L" state.

They are all gone after httpd restart, leaving 408 errors in access logs. What can be the reason?

Can mod_log_rotate be involved? Currently it's set to rotate every 2 days.

Apache Threads High Memory Use

May 29, 2007

In the last day or two I've been having issues with memory on one of by boxes.

Something eats it all up, so the OS starts swapping, the I/O wait shoots up, and soon the load is up in the hundreds and the thing is totally useless.

During the day today I've tracked the something to occational apache processes. It seems that occationally a thread is started which uses upwards of 150M of memory. These threads are obvioudly doing something heavyweight and take a while to complete. When I get a few of them running together it soons finishes off all my available memory. Below is an extract from top when a couple of these threads are running.

Code:
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
10230 nobody 25 0 197m 27m 9392 R 45.5 2.9 0:03.27 /usr/local/apache/bin/httpd -DSSL
10231 nobody 25 0 197m 25m 8376 R 52.8 2.7 0:01.60 /usr/local/apache/bin/httpd -DSSL
I was wondering if anyone could help out by suggesting some ways of tracking down what page/script it which uses so much memory. It's a cPanel server so it's not really practical to tail -f the apache logs (not knowing which account it is means I don't know which file to watch).

Apache: Logging

Jun 10, 2008

I just bought a new dedicated server and have got Lxadmin on it. Now lxadmin , automatically uses a different loggin system than I would want it to use. It creates a seperate log file for each doamin.

They are located in /home/httpd/EXAMPLE.com/stats

EXAMPLE.com-error_log
EXAMPLE.com-custom_log

Now the problem is that I have literally hundreds of domains and I want it to instead log at a single place and not at these hundreds of seperate places.

This is the root cause of my problem

# The location and format of the access logfile (Common Logfile Format).
# If you do not define any access logfiles within a <VirtualHost>
# container, they will be logged here. Contrariwise, if you *do*
# define per-<VirtualHost> access logfiles, transactions will be
# logged therein and *not* in this file.

I am unable to have any kind of centralised logging command because of the individual entries for each Virtual host.

Even if i can manually remove those entries once, and new domain created by lxadmin will have that same problem. Morevoer, any kind of update of lxadmin which rebuilds the database will also ruin all the hardwork that I put in.

Is there any suggestion / solution to this problem? Have centralised data at one place in a single file?

Apache :: Rotatelogs Crashes When Used As Piped Logging With Httpd

Apr 16, 2015

I've got a problem at a local customer with rotatelogs.exe and the current release of Apache HTTPD 2.4.12.

I've downloaded the 64-bit zip-file (VC11) and installed the VC11 vcredist in both 32- and 64-bit version.

The project is to upgrade apache 2.2 to apache 2.4. I've adjusted the configuration and added rotatelogs for log rotation for error_log and access_log.

The configuration is 100% correct, I can copy the line to cmd.exe and it runs correctly.

Variables are set in global environment, APACHE_HOME is set with "/" instead of "" to get sure rotatelogs.exe is found.

Apache :: HTAccess File Included In Project - Stuck With 403 Error

Oct 8, 2012

I was trying to set up archive-my-tweets [URL] .... and I seem to have gotten stuck with a 403 error. When I remove the .htaccess file the 403 goes away but so do the rewrite rules so that's a problem.

You'll see the contained .htaccess file that's included in the project.

Basically for now I'm just trying to run this on my mac. I have set up the files in a subdirectory of my personal web server. The personal web server is working fine--but when I go to the /tweets directory I get the 403.

How To Transfer Users And Threads To A New Vbulletin Forum

Oct 23, 2009

I have formated my linux Centos 4 server with PHP 4.4 and install Centos 5 with PHP 5.1 ( will upgrade to 5.2 soon ).

I succeed to restore all of my web sites and forums except one which has 110MB sql file, VBulletin 3.6.8.

I think the problem is related on my hack's and modifications I have done before...

Now I decided to install a new and fresh forum with version of 3.6.8 to be the same with ex one ( I will upgrade it after transferring ( migrating ) every threads, posts and members to new forum to 3.8.4)

But the problem is: when I restore the whole sql to new forum I had come across many problems.

THE QUESTION IS:

how can I transfer just "threads", "posts" and "members" to a new and fresh vBulletin forum ?

please note that my forum is not working now and I just have a "whole-website-backup.SQL" file and also back up of whole database folder in the linux ( it contains .frm , .MYD , .MYI files like: mst_post.frm , mst_post.MYD , mst_post.MYI and others...)

I have tried to copy these .frm .MYD and .MYI files on the new database folder but it was not worked!

I think I must restore by the help of .SQL file but I dont know how! when I recover whole the .SQL file forum does not work good and had some problem ( I can't log in to admin panel for example, and my VBSeo configurations gone and can't be repaire...

Please show me how can I transfer just my Posts and members to a NEW installed VBulletin forum with same or different "database name" and "database username".

MySQL Process List - State = Locked

Aug 18, 2008

When i login to the root for the server and go to mysql process list i see a lot of processes that are connected to photo handling and the sate is Locked with over 500 seconds of each one.

I see there is one process that the state says: Copying to tmp table

I read online that if this is taking long it might lock up other queries causing your server to perform slow and only solution is to restart mysql servers.

Right now i have over 100 queries that say Locked and one that says Copying to tmp table....each time i have to restart the mysql services but this happens every 10 minutes as i have enough traffic to cause this problem.

Web Server Logging

May 6, 2009

Firstly this question is not related to running a web hosting business, but to dedicated servers hosting our own websites.

I was just wondering, other than security reasons, what is the importance (if any) of keeping Apache/WWW logs? Are there legal reasons?

If it is best to keep Apache logs, how should we go about this? If we don't look after them properly there will be massive amounts of logs being kept - what is the best way to store them? I know they can be "rolled over" and kept for a certain amount of time, which is the best utility to do this?

The OS is Linux (CentOS) and the web servers are Apache and Lighttpd.

and should proxy/gateway/cache server logs be kept?

Logging Your Servers

Nov 4, 2007

We have quite a large number of servers now but I'm now finding it harder and harder to keep log of the number of details for it. How do the bigger guys keep control on this? Ie: Keeping logs of the serial/product keys of each part in the server, where they were ordered from, what date was it ordered etc?

My collection of growing motherboard, ram, processor boxes (which all store the serials of the products on) are now slowly taking over the office even when flat packed. I normally just write on each of the boxes where the product was ordered from, date of order and server name. While this is all well and good.. 50 servers later it can be a bugger to find the serial of that dedi mobo without going to the DC.

I tried my efforts at a simple Access database but I kept finding I spent more and more time typing in complex keycodes into the DB and just gave up. When this has been done it sounds nice and easy but then I hit another stump.

Ontop of logging a new servers details, how do you log which server is available to be sold, who its been sold too? ATM we have a VPN shared spreadsheet with all the details in (praying that the other employees will actually update it) but Im not sure if it will stand up when it hits 100+ servers rather than the 50+ atm.
