I install and configure apf firewall on my VPS and i have a problem. The port 80 is open, my website it`s up and working but i can`t download anything.

I am managing a server and just learning how to do everything. It is a linux server running WHM/Cpanel. I need web scripts on this server to be able to connect to external SMTP servers. Therefore I need to open up port 25 (if it is not already).
How do I open ports on my server? Hopefully by using WHM/Cpanel (I am not too familiar with using the command line).
I have a VPS running CentOS 4.4 which I have just been securing. It is running apache on port 80, BIND on port 53 and ssh on an atypical port. However, when I do a portscan with nmap I find that port 5190/tcp is open. There is no daemon listening on the port (I think it is for AIM?) and in any case iptables should refuse any connection on this port. Should I worry about this or is the port pretty safe to leave open?

Due to some circumstances out of my control, I've had to move from postfix to qmail. In postfix, I simply edited master.cf and added a new line to open it up on port 26 and 25 at the same time. In qmail it's not that easy. I followed the instructions at http://www.daniweb.com/forums/post256079-2.html and it worked, but it takes about 15 seconds for thunderbird send the mail (it sits there saying 'connected to mail.domain.com)
Is there a better way of opening qmail on 26 or forwarding requests for 26 to 25?

For some reason, I'm unable to open log files (error.log and each virtual hosts-specific log), even though I have full administrator rights. (The log folder is full access to admins.) Every time I try to open the file or even copy it to another location, it just says "Access Denied." I temporarily solved the issue for one of the logs by adding BufferedLogs On

As part of the setup I have obviously made sure the firewall is correctly setup. After doing this I have run a remote port scan (from my internet connected PC) to the IP address of the server. This has brought up two ports that should be blocked:
5190
1863
I can open a remote telnet session to both these ports, however if I remote desktop to the server and attempt a telnet connection both ports fail to respond.
Does anybody know what these ports are?
If it helps at all, the firewall surrounding the server is an external Cisco device

I figured out how to change the sshd config, and restarting the service to change the port. My friend installed a firewall due to ddos attacks, and I think i need to manually unblock the port that I would like to be the new sshd port. How can I find out what firewall I'm running, and where can I add a new port to the allow list?
Alright now this is the most intelligent way to send spam I have ever seen. Apparently a guy has made a PHP or Perl script that is acting as an MTA. That's right: He is neither using Sendmail nor Exim but he made a script that acts as an MTA. That means the script itself connects to third party mailservers via port 25 and communicates with the remote mailserver as if it was an MTA itself. This works even if Exim is entirely disbaled...
The spam still get's sent. The script is running only occasionally...not like a daemon.
So it is nearly impossible to locate it. You have no Exim logs to look at. And in the Apache logs any PHP script could be it... You are not able to find that out. Therefore I am unable to stop him unless I manage to block outgoing connections to another host's port 25 for any program but for exim.
How can I configure my firewall (APF) so that only Exim my connect to other servers via port 25? Is that even possible?
Do you still have to add each port individually to Server 2008's Firewall like we did on Server 2003?
If so, will the guides that were put out for 2003 work on 2008's? I want to be sure before putting all these ports in....if I can just specify a range instead, it would be much easier!
