1 Domain, Hundreds Of Subdomains, And Mutliple Servers
Jun 4, 2009
How would I go about implimenting this:
I have 1 main domain, I have hundreds of subdomains, and want to host the subdomains across multiple servers with cPanel. What's the best option for executing this?
I am about to create a domain for my shoutcast hosting service.
Now, I am getting a dedicated server just to host the shoutcasts accounts, and keep on using my actual web hosting company for the new domain website and email support.
Also I would like the shoutcast clients IP account to be:
server1.mydomain.com
So I need to create this subdomain in my shoutcast dedicated server?
And what Name Servers should I use for my domain?
I wonder, cos to be able to make the website and email I need to give the DNS of my web hosting company, but if I dont use the DNS of the Shoutcast Dedicated Server, would my clients be able to login to their account?
I have 5 servers, 2 running CentOS and Apache, 3 running Windows Server 2003 and IIS. Each server has it's own dedicated IP address, so I can access each site by going to [url]
Would I would like to be able to do is set each of these servers up with a subdomain on my domain.com. So I would have [url]going to one server, [url]going to another server, etc.
I logged into GoDaddy's Domain Manager. However, it appears that the only form of subdomains they have is redirection. So while I can create server1.domain.com, it merely redirects to [url]
I can mask the forward, but this creates problems with the login on the servers because they use cookies. In addition, the address always appears as [url], it doesn't have the "index.html" or "/login/login.aspx" when
I click links. The actual links appear as "[url] and not "[url]
Is there anything I can do? I want the subdomains to point to a particular IP address, not redirect.
I have a high-traffic domain & I want to create subdomains of this domain and point these subdomains to different servers. Each subdomain will have different content.
For eg. music.domain.com will have music relatd content, videos.domain.com will have videos etc. The purpose of this is to spread the traffic and hence reduce load on each server.
How do I create such subdomains? Creating subdomain from cpanel points to the same server. If i create subdomain from domain registrar it just points / redirects as 301 redirect to a URL I give.
I currently have shared hosting, but am getting VPS with another company. I'd like to keep my domains on my original hosting and direct the domains to the new server. I've been reading and it doesn't seem that hard to change for a regular domain. The problem is I don't seem to understand how to do the same for a subdomain. I keep reading about the A record and CNAME, but just don't get it.
Does anyone have any experience with this. Do I just put the IP address for the new server in the A record? I just want to make sure I know what's going on before I order my new hosting and find out it's not possible or something.
I'm also curious if mail, like myname@mydomain.com will continue to work. Or is there something I need to change for this as well.
We are looking for a good multiple WAN router for our office. We just ordered two DSL 3.0mbps down / 768kbps up lines.
Here are the requirements:
--> Under $500
--> 2 WAN Load Balanced And Fail Over Support
--> Smart enough to handle special session state traffic. Example, if you start a HTTPS session on one DSL line it has to stay on that line. If you start an FTP session connection on one line it has to stay on that line.
--> VPN Tunnel Site-To-Site Support, Only need a max of 1 site-to-site tunnel, but nice to have more just in case.
Forwarding a domain (incl. subdirectories/subdomains) to the same URL
I'm looking for a provider which can offer a service similar to mydomain.com, I should be able to add an unlimited number of domains to forward on external urls in a way which should point anything-you-digit.myname.com and myname.com/anything-you-digit to the same destination url If the service might also allow to add title, keywords and description for each domain, this would be even better but not required.
MyDomain can offer all this but there's a fee for each added domain while we'd prefer paying a monthly fee for a single hosting where adding multiple domains.
When trying to make a subdomain on my main cpanel domain, through cpanel, it acts like it is making it, and adds the dns entry, but it does not work. All other domains work fine.
I submitted a ticket to buycpanel, they asked for the login information this morning, and have not heard back from them. This has happened every since they installed cpanel.
I am hoping its something simple that one of you knowledgeable people may know how to fix.
Lets say I have abcd.com as the main domain on cpanel. abcd.com has 10 subdomains.
Basically what I want to do is when I do an addon domain or parked domain I want the subdomains to basically point to abcd.com automatically. Let's say the addon/parked
domain is 1234.com For example I have sub.abcd.com as the main subdomain
so when I type in sub.1234.com I want it pointed to sub.abcd.com internally meaning the script/files from there however in the browser show as if it were sub.1234.com
Whenever I try to create a user account I get the following error
Sorry, resellers are not permitted to create subdomains of the server's main domain
My server domain is www.domain.com and reseller is trying to create a user account like new.domain.com . It was working fine a few weeks back but I think since I upgraded the cpanel and whm, it doesnt allow creation of accounts anymore.
Could someone help me to fix this error please?
I own the VPS and the reseller and all other accounts.
I am just wondering what is normal when you point a domain name to a folder on an existing hosting account, as far as the urls in the address bar go?
I have my own website which has mega space, and my host allows up to 5 domains to be hosted in folders...so I thought I'd host b/friend's new website there.
His site is a WordPress installation.
I pointed the A record of his domain name to my hosts ip address , and it resolved fine. However, when I click on any of his articles, the full url of mysite is displayed in the address bar of the browser, which I don't want.
I've never tried to host another site on mysite before and just wondering what is normal as far as urls go? I'm thinking I've either missed a step somewhere, or it's a WordPress thing, or a host thing, or it's normal and I'm wasting my time trying to find a fix.
The ideal situation would be that the full urls of his_site are showing in the browser address bar.
Up until a week ago we had some troubles with package dependencies on our dedicated server running on Ubuntu 14.04.1. Plesk was totally out of reach, displaying 502 Bad Gateway pages and some other weird error on login_up.php3.
I fixed the dependencies by removing a lot of packages (including Plesk) and finally managed to reinstall Plesk using the autoinstaller, then repaired it using "/usr/local/psa/bootstrapper/pp12.0.18-bootstrapper/bootstrapper.sh" (IIRC this whole bootstrapper folder was not present before reinstallation).
Now, after restoring our data from a backup pretty much everything works except for the subdomains. They all redirect to the primary domain's vhost (307 Redirect) for some reason.
"/var/log/apache2/access.log" shows the following after issuing a HTTP request to any subdomain:
I have tried enabling and disabling nginx, it did not work. Then I just kept it disabled because it makes our forum think that everyone has the server's IP (because of the reverse proxy thing I assume).
Oh, and I should say: using HTTPS anywhere just gets me a 502 Bad Gateway error.
I've set up the affiliate manager from jrox.com for a client of mine. This includes the setup of wildcard DNS so that each affiliate can have username.clientssite.com and have it count their clicks - which works properly.
What isn't working properly is that he also has forums.hissite.com, which is loading the main website page instead of his forums. He is using cpanel to add the subdomain, and it isn't failing, so I'm not sure what's going on with it.

for a router than can handle a couple hundred BGP peers, but will not necessarily be pushing a lot of traffic. The router should be able to handle 200-400 BGP peers, but will only need to push around 2-3 Gbit/sec.
What would anyone recommend for this specific configuration?
I am willing to spend whatever is needed, though I also don't want to just be throwing more money at it than I need to to get the job done effectively.
I have hundreds and hundreds of messages in mail queue waiting delivering. Log file says:
connect to remote.host[000.000.000.000]: server refused to talk to me: 421 4.7.0 remote.host Error: too many connections from my-servers-ip
delivery temporarily suspended: connect to remote.host[000.000.000.000]: Connection timed out
(I replaced real IP addresses with 000, my-servers-ip and hostname with "remote host")
It happends only with one host (the most popular free email provider in my country). All emails to yahoo, gmail etc are being delivered without any problems.
What does it mean - too many connections from my server? I have a busy dating website and php script sends out a lot of email notifications (for example - when users get new instant messages). Anyway, I never heard that email providers limit the number of emails from the same server. During the night time all messages from mail queue are being delivered, but at day time this number sometimes grows to 1000.
We are a small ISP with about 5000 users. Only a very small percentage of our users can send email to Yahoo, and even that is sporadic.
Hundreds of our users' legitimate emails are rejected daily with the following message: 421 Message from (208.66.56.9) temporarily deferred - 4.16.50. Please refer to help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/defer/defer-06.html
I have filled out "Yahoo! Mail Delivery Issues Form" a few times. I get the following automated response message: -------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello,
This is an automated message regarding your recent request for Yahoo! Mail Customer Care support. We have received your message and willYa respond within the next 48 hours with an answer.
Thank you for reaching out to us. We look forward to helping you!
Sincerely,
Yahoo! Customer Care
**Please do not respond to this message as no one will receive it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------
But I never received a response from Yahoo and they continue rejecting our users' legitimate emails.
After reading many forums and blogs, it appears that they are doing the same thing to many other small ISPs and companies with their own email servers.
This practice can interrupt many legitimate business communications and hurts many small businesses.
RedHat Box running Sendmail 8.13.1, php 4.4.7, only 1 domain on it running the most recent vBulletin version and vBulletin has been successfully setup to run mail through GMail. The files in the domain directory have been cleaned up, ie. old unused files, etc.
Every night running into the same issue. Server goes on VERY high load due to sendmail. With hundreds of following processes:
How would I go about setting up Bind on one of my Dedicated Servers? I noticed that you use three dns servers through pipedns and I thought you might be able to help me answer this question.
How would I be able to have my friends and I point our domains to my server(s) and have bind make it work? I want to have one dns server and then I have my friends each on there own DEDI using my bind dns servers but I'm not sure how to do this.
How would we add domains and the bind server know which server they are hosted on? Do you have to add the domains through bind? If so, how would I do that automatically and how would it work through cPanel when someone parks a domain?
I know reminds you of something else doesn't it? Seriously though, If I have 1 managed linux dedicated server (CentOS w/ cpanel v.11) and 1 managed windows dedicated server (Windows Server 2003 w/ Plesk 8) and want to the setup automatically through WHMCS under the same domain name (or appearance) how would I accomplish this task?
I know that I could simply add additional servers to the server configuration of 1 whmcs billing software installation. The problem is if I had to buy a separate domain for the other server and run them through 1 website it may appear shady to have the domain name change in the url during checkout.
I've seen few web hosts other both kinds of hosting through 1 website without redirecting to a different domain. If I have to have 2 different domains assigned to 2 different server boxes could I mask/cloak/I don't know the technical word for it so that the url appears as the same domain weather purchasing shared hosting for windows or linux?
I recently had my registrar change the name servers of [url] to point to a new host. Its been a month since that change was made.
When I go to the website on my work computer, it seems to point to the new host during the day but in the evening around after 5PM for some reason it points to the old host. My registrar refuses to acknowledge a problem because they see the WHOIS information pointing to the correct name servers.
When it is pointing to the new host I can login to cpanel and webmail using the new hosts' credentials. When it is pointing to the old host I can only use the old login credentials for the old host.
So far this has only happened to me at work. Could it be something to do with my work ISP? When the domain is incorrectly pointing to the old host I can ask friends on other ISPs over instant messenger to check the domain and they are referred to the new web host.
I would like to host 1 domain with 2 servers. How would i get both servers to have the same info on them. I have 2 servers and I only have the intended need to host 1 website. How would I do that?
I'm trying to set up a new site on a new server, primarily informational, while maintaining the old order-taking and database functionality of the existing one. This new one is an Ubuntu vm with samba and apache all set, but the old one is running Tomcat and basically takes java programming to update. How can I properly route incoming requests to the proper server, pass back and forth login information (which resides on the old server), etc? I'm a relative newbie to all this, so the solution might be blindingly obvious, but it's a bit daunting to get them working in tandem.
