View 9 Replies View RelatedIf your about to start up your own hosting company i would reccomend JustGotVPS.com there staff are VERY helpfull and quick support staff times. Cheap VPS's that are genuin i am currently running one of there top end ones with Cpanel with no problem. I would like to point out i have nothing to do with JustGotVPs.com i am writing this because of there great service and Admin support. I reccomend if your on a reseller to get one of these VPS's.

However, things went wrong so I would like to know how to delete everything to do with SSL and start from the beginning. This time with the help of a few tutorials.
I've deleted all the SSL Hosts via WHM, however there is still two showing in cPanel and I when I go to delete them there it says:
The key for <url>.com has been deleted.
The Key for <url>.com cannot be fully deleted, because it is installed in the system ssl directory!
The Certificate Signing Request for <url>.com cannot be fully deleted, because it is installed in the system ssl directory!

Also, if I want to secure a billing system that is on a subdomain. E.g. scripts.domain.com do I purchase and create the certificates for domain.com or scripts.domain.com?
I have a problem with Parallels Plesk v12.0
Hosting type on website became "No web hosting."
When I try to change hosting type to "Forwarding" it changes ok.
If I change hosting type to "Website hosting", I get message "The hosting type for "website name" was successfully changed.", but hosting plan still stay "No web hosting"....

I need to switch two corporate web sites from a provider which has been providing spotty up time and poor reliability especially on their email servers; worst thing about them is that when they're down we get no notice, until we notice or customers complain. We've had outages for email that lasted as long as 72 hours. I'm not sure how our service is configured there, but I would guess shared hosting.
I understand the differences in shared hosting, virtual private or dedicated server, and dedicated hosting unmanaged or managed. What I'm not sure about is what would be best for our needs. If I dont get other advice, I'll probably sign up for shared hosting with a provider that has other service types available.
We do not do any E-commerce, but our website is our advertising and if we're down we can lose sales. Our customers need access to documentation downloads and get upset if we're down. Our current site has shown these statistics on average per day: 3000-4000 hits, 3000-4000 files 200 visits. Our monthly bandwidth was a maximum of 2GB over the past year. We need less than 50 email addresses.
Phone support is necessary, 24/7 would be nice. We need server monitoring and security, good uptime and reliability statistics or a guarantee. Control panel and statistics would be nice. We dont need any website design tools.
I've used Futurequest for a website in the past but their geared to E-Commerce and have no phone support. I have some websites registered with Dotster but they're very light on support. A colleague has used Lunarpages for similar businesses, I think, and he recommended them. He indicated they were good for him with phone support.
If you're still reading, I'd appreciate any guidance, both for type of service and for specific providers.

I'll try to list some basic needs I got:

Mass email marketing ability! This is important!
I have a member list of about 30,000 who I email twice a week! These people are opt-in recipients of these emails.
On top of that I'd like to start mining and sending out opt-in requests of about 50-100,000 a month to NEW emails that I don't have direct permission to email.
I obviously have software to manage, clean, send out in batches, and do whatever else you have to for proper email marketing.
From some research I got the idea that I would be better off with some offshore VPS/dedicated host that won't shut us down for emailing. We will do our best to keep the bounces at minimum as well as keep up-to-date blacklists/unsubscribers.
I'm planning to open picture site similar to flickr perhaps and was wondering how much bandwidth do i need. what kind of hosting type do i need.

What limiting factors should clients most look into when they shop for a type of hosting, starting with shared ? When these factors are importants, a client would at least go for VPS.
I listed some of them I know (for a shared/reseller hosting type) :
- Fact that you can only host websites (no backup, no specialties hosting)
- No control over what's installer on the server
- Can go to slow to fast, depends on which sites you're hosted with
- Account can be suspended in case of traffic surge
- No SSH most of the time
I'm starting a streetwear clothing company and am about to get a website done to display my catalogue - it will have medium amounts of flash and will be like most other e-commerce clothing stores
However, I won't be needing a full e-commerce site as I do not intend to sell through my website - if needed, all I hope to have on it is a link for payments to be made via paypal
What I will need is a host that is reliable and doesn't bug out as soon as traffic to my site increases - I have no idea as to the amount of traffic i will be receiving when things are just starting out but I'd like to at least be prepared for high traffic - I was stupid enough to believe in all the overselling from big hosting companies until I did more reading - now I know their limits are just for show and I want to avoid getting shut down or whatever for putting a load on their resources
My hope is that some of you learned ones can advise me on the direction i should be heading Though I have no idea exactly what VPS and dedicated servers are, I assume these are more suitable for my needs? When I try to set a domain's hosting type from "Forwarding" to "Website hosting" I get the following error:

What I tried:
- Using different usernames;
- Checked plesksrv.exe permissions [URL] ;
And right now I'm running the PP Reconfigurator tool, option Plesk File Security, cause I think this issue is related with permissions.
I have started up a UK based company with a few people and our work is mainly based with online websites.
I need a reliable UK web host, with servers based in the UK and the availability to call up for any support.
The company needs to have many years in the business and are available to transfer my CPanel accounts.
I have a "little" problem. I can not change the hosting type for a domain.
There is the error:
"Internal error.

Following configuration given:
Abo with "domain.com" - Hosting Type - Webspace (with E-Mail Services)
Subdomain "sub.domain.com" - Hosting Type - Forward
Customer asked us to activate Forward for "domain.com "to other Domain for 2 weeks - but as soon as a Subdomain points on a Domain - I can NOT change the Hosting Type anymore ... WHY???
If I want to change Hosting Type from Hosting to Forward for some weeks - it always deletes the whole Webspace for the Domain ... ?!?
1) Why can't I change Hosting Type when a Sub-Domain is created?
2) Why can't I tell Plesk to change Hosting Type WITHOUT deleting the whole Webspace ...
We are currently in a limited Alpha for a very demanding web application. We'll (hopefully) be in closed Beta in 3 months and go live / open beta after all issues are fixed.
Our problem is that we know that we will need, even for the open beta, a costly setup.
We are talking about 2 front-end servers for Apache / PHP / Memcached, 2 for a Mysql Cluster / replication / partitioned (undecided) and at least 1 just for pre-processing stuff that later will go to the database.
Growing from those requirements is very possible, so we would like to be able to add new computers to the cluster, more processing machines, more front-ends, a load balancer, etc.
Of course we have considered the Cloud (Amazon S3 and stuff), but those 5 initial machines are a must for us.
My question is, what is the best solution here, a rack with a private Lan/fast switches?
What are the recommended companies for this kind of installations? Will they manage everything or just rent the rack?
Any clues about how costly (setup and monthly) this kind of setup would be? I can't find specific prices for these "special installations" anywhere, they all want us to call and we are just preparing for 4/6 months on the road.
I have a question about SSL certs.
How do you transfer an SSL cert that you have on your current hosting plan to new servers hosting plan?
This is on Plesk and on a VPS and I have root access on both servers and both are Plesk if this even makes a difference.
I have installed Plesk 12.0.18 on my server and want to change the hosting-type from "Forwarding" to "Web hosting". I change the type via "Websites & Domains" view (see attachments).
After I insert username and password, I get following error message:
Some fields are empty or contain an improper value. ('home' = '')
Deleting the domain and creating it from scratch is a bad option. I would have to create all e-mail accounts and migrate the data.
Anyone can tell us (from experience) a good hosting company for dedicated servers?

I have read this kb. It is exactly the problem I have, but I have permission to create domains and still can not change the type of hosting...
When trying to change the hosting type of a subscription, from website to forwarding or none, that was created before I removed tomcat from the server, I get the error: "Error: tomcatmng failed:".
For subscriptions that where created after I removed the tomcat package (with the updates and upgrades manager/product installer) hosting type changing is no problem.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI will be starting up a new hosting company that will offer free and paid hosting. My question is, should I start out with a reseller, and move on as needed? I was simply thinking of starting out with a VPS, so I could simply skip the reseller part. I read elsewhere that some simply get a reseller and get another reseller when they need it.
What path should I choose. I could always get a VPS later on, but why not get one now? This is one reason I ask, because since reading about the reseller post, I am now split on this.
To note, have used a reseller before, but not a VPS. I do want to eventually learn to run a VPS, so this could be the time to do so.
I recently made a purchase of a really busy website and I need about 1024 Guaranteed Ram 20Gb+ disk space and 1000gb bandwidth VPS.
Please make some suggestions based on:
1- Customer/Technical Support
2- Pricing
3- Their ability to maintain a good service at all times.
