Jul 13, 2008Is there a site that shows the actual uptime for a host?
View 14 RepliesIs there a site that shows the actual uptime for a host?
View 14 RepliesI just transferred a domain from one cpanel box to another.
Now, that site is showing someone else's page. I've seen this happen before, but I cannot remember the fix.
the virtual host in httpd.conf is fine, shows proper IP, username, docroot, etc
Dns zone is fine as well.
The domain is using the server's main IP, so that's not the cause.
Centos 5 / cpanel 11 / apache 1.3 / php 4x

View 1 Replies View RelatedSite has disappeared, though still shows normal in Parallels Panel
I keep a simple site for my art portfolio and some misc files hosted with unlimitedwebhosting.co.uk and Parallels Plesk.
Yesterday I noticed that the site and all its contents give a 404 error, and the home page shows the default page generated by Parallels Plesk Panel. However, all my files are still accessible from ftp and the Panel:
The index.html file is still the same old one as it should be, yet the homepage doesn't show it.
As per the default setup, all the content of the website is in the httpdocs folder, not the root. Though I did try copying the index.html to the root and see if that worked, but it did not. I'm very inexperienced when it comes to web hosting and everything related, so I'm not sure if it's somehow user error or if I should try to contact Parallels.
Here's a history of emails I received from them - notice how the invoices are followed by multiple payment confirmations:
So perhaps cancelling the one payment made them think I wanted to cancel the hosting and the site was taken offline? I don't know.
i work for a small but fairly successful and quickly rising company. we're looking for hosting for our corporate site. we could host it ourselves but that would put an extra burden on engineering and we're stretched pretty thin as it is. we moved to bluehost on my recommendation. i've been using them for 2 years now and never had a problem. unfortunately less than two days after we switched the server is now down. it's been down for over 4 hours now and we've blown past several estimated times from tech support. i know this is a rare thing but it doesn't look good and i don't think the higher ups much want to stay with them. so here's some info about our site. requires SSI, CGI, Perl 5.8+ with Perl DBI 1.32+ and Perl DBD::Mysql > 2.1021+ Perl Modules, ImageMagick 6.0.6+ Perl Module or GD Perl Module (GD.pm 2.17+), PHP 5. small traffic with occasional spikes. approx 200 uniques daily. occasional spikes if we happen to show up in the news. we do have the possibility of showing up in all major US news outlets. it's happened once before which resulted in almost 1,000 uniques which quickly tapered back off to normal levels. we're currently using 154MB of disk space and 8GB of bandwidth last month. we need multiple ftp accounts to allow marketing and contract web devs to upload their own files. probably around 10 or so would be adequate. email not required. we have a hosted exchange server. uptime and quick response to server outages important. being a corporate site and not our application downtime isn't truly horrible but it is perceived as such. this site is our identity. we're a tech company and it looks bad when our corporate site is down. even when our application isn't.

What is the most credible source to verify a host's uptime record?
This may well turn into a free-for-all but...
If you're hosting a large, MySQL website and priority one (more important than price) is database stability and server uptime... who would you recommend as the best host for your money ?
I have free-hosting with Awardspace and their customer service and uptime are great, but their database crashed a couple of times in just a few months. Granted they always fixed it quickly. I've never used their paid packages.
And also I have quite a few sites pay-hosted with a Trini company that's re-selling from myhostcenter.com . They have fair customer service, but their databases have never (in four years) crashed on me... I've never lost data... and the price is very right! What I dis-like is the lack of advanced warning when sites are going to be down for server-maintenance. And there have been a couple times when the server would be down for no apparent reason at all, and with no apology.
Those issues haven't been huge problems before, because the sites are all relatively low-traffic, but it can be a disastrous for a future project I'm working on. Therefore, who would you recommend as both the most stable and most reliable host that money can buy ?
with this being my first website goddady's website tonight or there blog site plan seem pretty good as I do not know how to build a professional looking website nor do I have a knowledge of HTML. Are there other hosts that offer better services such as these?
Also I would want to register with 1&1 as to register privately is free but with godaddy it costs around $15 and I've heard of godaddy stealing persons domains when they haven't even expired yet i.e. familyAlbum.com?
Is it allowed for instance to register my domain name with 1&1 and host my site with godaddy?
I would like to know what are the kernel values for an RPM kernel.. I mean, I have the latest 2.6.x kernel running on a RHE 4 system, my question.. Is there any way to know the actual kernel values (drivers, options, etc)?
Same as when we write a phpinfo file (that shows libraries, etc) to know php values..
Id like to know how If can backup my actual config ( I have a vps at vpsempire) that my buddy is setting up for us to have a vpn.
My idea is to have a backup just in case something happens to the server or If I should migrate it ( just precaution). FYI: server has 128 mb
the os Is centos
One friend I host sites for is reporting 492MB in WHM, but running DU reports 5.4GB for just one site!!! I've had the DC run Quotafix, but it's still not correct. The site is drupal and DC said they can't even list the tmp folder for that account. Any suggestions so I don't loose $45/month in extra charges? I have no clue how many months this is been going on, but it's costing me allot it seems.
View 6 Replies View Relatedi have to reload a page several times. at least once. the templates show up fine, but the actual images and contents do not show up unless i reload the page....this is evident during peak hours but not during normal hours.....
i've done tracert, no lost packets.
Considering a dedicated box at Gigenet, as their configurations and prices look good. However, I don't know any customers there.
We're looking for a basic unmanaged box with decent latency to both coasts and non-idiotic people to respond to tickets.
I have some small colo in an a DC that I have actual transfer basis on each server. Now they give me MRTG graphs and they say they go by what the switch reports for when they bill me. I haven't had an issue until this month when one of my servers which I only have one TB with was reported using 1372GB on their switch.
Now on my MRTG graphs it reported the monthly graph as the following:
Average In: 2360.8 kb/s (2.4%) 763.855996 GB
Average Out: 471.7 kb/s (0.5%) 152.6205485 GB
This reports under 1TB, so I thought that I was okay on my usage. Am I wrong in thinking that the average usage and actual usage should be very similar? I figured since MRTG takes how much you transfer every 5 minutes and averages that over 300 seconds to find the rate that it would report basically the same average usage as my actual usage.
My host keeps telling me that it is my connection but my server keeps getting slower and slower. how can I actually test it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm going to be extremely blunt and start off that although I'm not an unintelligent person, I'm very dumb when it comes to hosting and the lingo. So I would really appreciate the "Hosting for Dummies" version to find a good host
The closest I can show in what I am building with my partner is HERE (which claims to have had 90Million pageviews/month last year) Just basically a teen game and graphic site. It will be mostly flash games, php, various other scripts and forums.
I'm confident in saying they don't use shared hosting at least. Though what it is exactly I don't know. There is no way I'd get a dedicated server to begin with till we need it. I'm not sure what else a site like this requires (perhaps unlimited mySQL?) for a shared hosting plan. I was looking at HostMonster, Hostgator and Bluehost. I need good customer support for sure, I've had too many crap hosts in the past. I also need multiple domains (4-5)
In sum, does the shared hosting even matter at this point, or should I come back when we're in need of dedicated? I'm guessing cp usage will be the first to give out?
I bought a server,installed windows server 2003 and PHP 5.
now, the website can be seen with local IP [url]
My server is behind the router, So, I've already configured port(80) forwarding to my server in the router setting.
But, The website is still not working internet.
Hello all, I have a client who needs to host a casino site. Can anyone point me to a good place to host. The client is in the US, but the hosting would have to be outside the US.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've a site running at my localhost with Apache/Tomcat server, pages are mostly jsp.
I've used Oracle as the database but i'm currently migrating it to MySQL. I've used the
Struts framework. And i'm planning to add AJAX to it in coming days.
So, the whole thing is up and working on my local machine, how do i host it on a server so that its available in the internet?
Which hosting service is required for this kind of website?
How do i choose a hosting service?
And the most important of all, how to deploy and make the code running in the remote server.
I'm planning to go for a shared server for the moment.
i am now hosting my wallpaper site www.mastiwallpapers.com in ixwebhosting.com,how ever upto this time i got no problems, i need a backup assistance thats y i came, if anybody come with a nice plan with a reliable hosting without having server overload problems.
Because they already shut down one of my wallpaper site on grounds of server overloading.
I recently moved a site from one hosting company to another. I went to the registrar and pointed the DNS at the new nameservers, and set up a new ftp account to upload the site. The DNS seemed to resolve ok after a few hours, (in my browser I was seeing the new host's default home page) so I uploaded the site to the new host.
Today sometimes I see the new site and sometimes the old!
I'll be editing pages and uploading them by ftp, then suddenly I'll see a different directory structure on the remote server. Similarly I'll refresh my browser while looking at the new site and... Hey! I'm seeing the page on the old site!
I've cleared the browser cache on my machine btw.
My guess is that either a server somewhere in the path (at my local service provider?) is throwing out old cached versions of the page, perhaps when it is busy, or that not all the nameserver/dns records have updated.
Can't access my web site, my web host says it's my ISP.
My WebHost said "It seems that your ISP cannot resolve the domain".
Can an ISP have any control over the accessibility of individual domains?
That's sounds a little strange to me.
My ISP support is currently closed, but I suspect they'll tell me to contact my web host.
I was able to access it earlier today.
What do you think? Is the ISP theory possible?
Can some one suggesst CGI free host site with LWP, as my company has blocked some site & I need to refer that so will lwp to pull that page & I can view the page which is blocked
so can any one help me knowing which are good free lwp hosts ad free preferred, my load will be only 10mb per day max

I'm a university designer trying to find hosting for a video textbook. I have about 330MB of videos framed in a single swf/html/js page.
Our course is about 300 students, and we'd expect the site to be largely dormant except for traffic spikes right before exams, when everyone will want to access the material.
We know nothing about linux images or server maintenance or anything required to use an unmanaged VPS. I'm mostly just concerned about having enough bandwidth not to upset ToS, but I'm unsure of what this actually translates to. Any hosting advice would be extremely appreciated, from specs we should look for to specific hosts. We're lost fishies!
I have plans os doing a NSFW site very soon and am trying to gather as much information about all aspects of what it takes before getting this project off the ground. I know a fair bit of what it will take and I have a web designer set up, ect but I need help picking a web host. I really dont know much about what I am looking for and what I expect the site to do (traffic wise) because it will be my first site. It is going to have videos hosted from other sites but maybe eventually in the future I may host some myself. For the time being, I need to know what do I need in a good host to handle a page that basically just has videos on it. I'm leaning towards Lunar Pages as I have some friends that use them and are satisfied but dont know what I would really need as far as basic hosting, VPS, dedicated servers ect. This part is very new to me! Can anyone give me some advice as to what I should be looking for and and recommendations? I plan on hosting from a hosting company and getting a domain from a domain registrar to keep the seperate.

I woke up this morning to find I wasn't able to access my domain based email or my website. So I figured I would check with my host, (www.hostpc.com), and I was unable to access them, also.
I had someone else from a remote location and PC check and they can access hostpc as well as my website.
My PC is up and running fine otherwise.
