Setting Up An Internet Connection On Server 2003

Jun 14, 2008

I have just started studying to get my MCSE certification; however, I have hit a road block early on. I am trying to start an internet connection to so i can use "configure Your Server Wizard". The internet connection is live ( I tested it on my vista tower).

Here is a some information of my setup. I am running 2 towers with server 2003 ( both are stuck with no internet) one tower with vista. I have a cable modem to a router. The router is supplying 3 ethernet cords to my 3 towers. I am using comcast for internet.

All I need right now is a basic connection to the internet so i can go further with training book one.

Here is my ipconfig/all dump from the vista tower that can connect to the internet:

C:Usersjosh>ipconfig/all

Two Web Servers And One Internet Connection

Jun 25, 2008

I am attempting to setup two computers for web hosting but I only have one internet connection and I am having some problems getting this to work.

This is my first post on this site, so please be patient with me as I am fairly new to web hosting and how t set it all up.

I have two computer both are running windows xp pro with one having IIS 5.1 and the other one with Apache. I can't seem to get them to work together. If I have both apache and IIS running at the same time one of them seems to over ride the other.

Is there some way that I can get them to work together or is this not going to work for me this way?

Slow Internet Connection To Our Website

Apr 20, 2008

For about the last two weeks I've had issues connecting with the website that I help run www.learnoutloud.com from my home connection which is Time Warner Cable Internet connection in Los Angeles. I'm on a Dell laptop Inspiron 6000 running Windows XP. I'm always able to connect to the site but what's happening is the page will get hung up on loading a single image usually and then it will take about a minute just to load that last image. And sometimes the page won't load at all, but all it takes usually is hitting the refresh button and the page loads instantly. I was hoping this issue would just go away, but it's been persistent after numerous restarts of our cable modem and switching from wireless to plugged in and so forth. And it's really only happening for our site and no others, which is just puzzling.

At our office on our DSL connection our site loads fine and we haven't had any customer complaints about the site loading slow like this. Our traffic numbers have stayed steady so I don't think it's a global problem connecting with our site. At home I conduct a trace route and it looks good:

Setting Up VPN Internet Tunneling, Paid Support

Nov 3, 2007

I am trying to set a vpn system up on a windows 2003 server, that will tunnel my and some friends internet thru it, making it secure encrypted esspecially when using unsecure devices using wifi.

we tried this on a test server with 1 network card, we manage to setup the vpn and loggin, but we cannot manage to get our internet thru it.

That is basically the most important to it, we dont want local server harddisk access or anything, just to get our internet thru the vpn so it is secure and encrypted.

The test box had 1 network card, and if we take a cheap server for this purphose it will probably have 1 card also.

Who can help us achieve this and explain us how for future refernces ? We are willing to pay a fee.

Internet Relay Chat (IRC) Setting Up On CPanel Box With FreeBSD

Jun 7, 2005

Setting up an IRC/cPanel box with freeBSD

Well this "guide" if you like, doesn't really have a purpose, it both shows you how to setup a basic irc box (just installing oidentd), its mainly targeted towards installing cPanel on freeBSD.

I used freeBSD 5.4-RELEASE so you might not encounter problems I did.

firstly login to your server and we will just install cpanel straight away.

mkdir /home/cpins
cd /home/cpins
wget http://layer1.cpanel.net/latest
sh latest
This will take awhile so go grab a coffee. This will install everything for cPanel.

Once this is complete, go to WHM

http://yourip/whm

and login with username root and your root password. Now you will be prompted with the WHM setup screen. This is really simple, just follow the onscreen instructions to setup whm. This will setup your server hostname, resolvers, nameservers and so on.

Once this is done, you have done it. You have installed cPanel, but don't get your hopes up just yet. No doubt there will be bugs, you are best to search google but I will go over what ones I encounter. If I do that is.

So straight off I am going to go test the account creation, go to Create A New Account in WHM, and input any domain you want, for my example I just put google.com. After I hit created it created the account but returned a bind error. So we have to fix this first ....

Accessing My Server From The Internet

Jul 28, 2008

when I install apache on my machine I can open up port 80 on the router and allow outside access.

But, now here is the issue.

I have a p4 server which connects via ethernet to my apple mac. My apple mac connects to the internet via wireless. My apple mac has web sharing activated so the server can access the web. The server has OpenBSD 4.3 installed without X.

What I want to do is get my server online.

It's IP is 192.168.2.4, my macs IP is 192.168.1.1. In the router configuration how would I set it up? Would the router see 192.168.2.4?

Internet TV Vis-à-vis Dedicated Server

Mar 15, 2007

I am using Hostgator's basic dedicated plan, and wondering how practical it would be to consider starting a sort of internet TV, where I will be hosting the content. I see big guys are doing that YouTube is doing that for example, and there are lots of other sites that are offering online shows, like BBC, CNN, etc.

Anyone has any idea how this works, from the server's point of view? Is it practical to think that with a basic dedicated server one can host an internet movie / TV channel? I know that the obvious question will be the number of visitors, and how many hours / day they are watching the TV, well, that would be a tough question to answer, but I would prefer to be ready for the worst, say 1 00 000 people watching 2 hours a day, or even worse (I mean, good so far as the popularity is considered, but not so good for the server).

Server Hardware And Internet Speed

Jun 28, 2008

I have seen many articles about setting up your server. WAMP, LAMP, IIS and more. But they are based on software.

I want to know that What server hardware is required to setup a server? What type of internet connection is needed? What will be total cost?

I am from middle class family from india. I have airtel broadband 256 kbps dynamic IP unlimited plan for my daily use. Airtel provides business plans too with static IP address. You can check their tariff here:

airtelbroadband.in/wps/wcm/connect/airtel.in/Airtel.In/Home/ForYourBusiness/Data+and+Internet/Broadband+and+Internet/Tariff/

I want to know that if I want to host upto 10 websites with upto 20 lakh pageviews/month on a server...

which internet connection should I use?

what type of server hardware should I use?

what should be its configuration?

How can I set domain name on my webserver IP?

I am not going to host 10 sites on server. Even I am not going to setup a server.

I have never seen anybody talking about server hardware. They always talk about software (apache, php, iis, sql etc).

I want to know about server hardware and its configuration.

Apache :: 2.0.64 - No Internet Access To Server

Oct 28, 2012

I recently installed Apache/2.0.64(win32)on my Windows 7 machine and am having a problem with external access. The installation appears to be good as it shows all services running and I can access a basic index.html file through 127.0.0.1

I have ruled out any router or firewall issues and am fairly sure the problem is with the httpd config. But the only changes I've made are to the NameServer and Listen directives, so I'm lost for an answer to the problem.

The NameServer is set to my actual IP address while the Listen one is set to my servers internal IP address, but I have tried switching them around with no success.

The other thing I don't know is if I need to have SQL and myPHP installed just to check basic functionality.

Creating An Internet Relay Chat (IRC) Server

Apr 29, 2006

I have recently opened up a game, in which is slowly becoming pretty active. However, I want the ability to create an IRC server - locally. We are currently only on shared hosting, because we don't have a lot of bandwidth usage yet - however I believe it would be successfull to start an IRC server now, plus it would be nice to know how to do it.

However, I have two questions/problems: I am not interested in having another computer run the IRC server, because I don't have a stable internet connection except at home in which Im not willing to have to drive from campus to home if something were to happen. Therefore, I'd like to be able to run it off a PC I have ideling inside my dorm. The problem is, my roommate uses it a lot while I use my laptop, and therefore it needs to run off Windows, or somehow give me the ability to run it off a linux while running Windows - or something silly like that.

Therefore, I have two possibilities. Either one, this is completely not possible or two there is some sort of emulator or something like in which I can run IRC on Windows - Or the ability to create an IRC server directly onto windows.

Any ideas? If it is the second possibility, please provide some good tutorials or software into creating a basic IRC server. I don't really care about security unless it is going to affect the connection/box. It's not like we have a bunch of hackers who are going to attemp to exploit it, because when we launch out of BETA we will buy a server, in which we will have IRC installed onto it.

Dedicated Server - Internet Relay Chat (IRC) Allowed

May 16, 2009

I am looking for a reliable dedicated server provider that allows IRC. I am looking for something under 100 dollars. My budget is 100 dollars, not a cent more. I am not concerned about management levels. Managed or un-managed doesn't matter. I would prefer a U.S. based location.

1. Dont ask me what specs I am looking for; the under $100 budget will dictate the specs.

2. Yes, I am aware that there have been two topics about dedicated servers that allow IRC in the recent past. I was unable to find a host from those topics.

3. Yes, I am sure I am looking for a dedicated. Don't post links to shell providers.

4. I am about 99% sure, I will not purchase a dedicated server from your sig. If you don't have something useful to say, please don't say it at all.

5. I'm not looking for someone to tell me that its hard to find a dedicated server that allows IRC under 100 dollars. I am also fully aware that most dedicated providers don't allow IRC. On top of that I understand WHY a lot of providers don't allow IRC. Please don't post if your only going to say why IRC isn't allowed.

6. I have checked the offers sections. No luck. Please don't tell me to check the offers section.

7. I am looking for a dedicated server under 100-dollars. That's the bottom line. Thanks for reading the entire post Wait! Did I tell you thanks for reading the entire post?

What are your recommendations?

I already contacted Gige, but they are not answering.

At this moment server is with Theplanet, but their Cisco guard is not doing good job at all.

Server also used to be @ Softlayer, but they nullroute IP as soon as that specific IP is attacked.

I also looked @ Staminus, see that they offer up to 500mbps protection for $200 a month, which is okay, but i would like to see other options as well.

Fresh Centos Server Install But Cannot Connect To The Internet

Aug 11, 2009

The setup:

2wire BT router (Firmware 6.1.1)
1 Server (Dell) Hardware with NICs (Server is connected to router via Ethernet Cable)
5 Static Ip addresses purchased from BT
Server OS is Centos 5.2

All laptops (5) are able to connect to the net wirelessly. I just did a standard installation of the Centos following [url]

I then tried
Code:
yum update
but it times out. I have no remote access to the server. I can only connect when i am on the router. I have seached, read and tried so many sites and commands but it just is not working. I have had this problem for about a 6 days.

Its a long story but basically this server setup has become a nemesis.

I don't mind providing remote access to the server and router admin page if needed. I am in London btw.

Media Server Running Windows Server 2003 Std: Yes Or No

Jul 10, 2007

Most people probably run Linux on their media servers, but since I don't know much about Linux and the media server we have is unmanaged, I was wondering how you guys feel about running Windows Server 2003 Std on a media server instead of Linux. We'll only be using the server to host Flash video files (.flv) and we'll be serving those vids on websites hosted on other servers, resulting in approx. 50,000-100,000 media views per day (filesizes range from approx. 5MB to 10MB). We don't want to run Windows Media Services, just a Web server (IIS6) and have the Flash video players on the external websites take care of the streaming/downloading part.

Server 2003 DNS

Nov 2, 2007

I have home network of 5 computers and 1 server running server 2003. I'm trying to use the IIS on the server to run multiple sites (for design purposes). i've installed DNS and setup my primary zone "shane.com" in "forward zone" i've added Host(a) and called it "test6"

in IIS i've set up a new site and in host header value i've put test6.shane.com.
everything works great on the server. when i type in [url]in the browser the page comes up without any problems. however when i do the same thing on the other workstations it pulls up the page some some other page from the internet and not my LAN as if it wasn't connecting to the primary DNS (which i changed to my server's ip 192.168.1.2).

what am i doing wrong? why does it work on the server but not on any other workstation on my LAN?
