I've just bought a server and installed Windows Server 2003 O/S.
My website(with PHP) is currently hosting at another hosting company.
and I want to move this website to new server and cancel with that hosting company.
It will also be a server for office network to share files.
How do I run a virtual instance of Windows server 2008 on my Linux dedi? Do I need to partition the server and create a VPS for this or can I run it on something like VMware? (Please look at my other thread here [url]t=857377 to learn more about my server, its resources and current config.)
Why would I want to do this? Because my primary desktop OS is still Vista Ultimate 64 and I've invested a lot in Windows-based software and hardware--too much to make a total switch to Linux. But, I don't want to invest more than I have to in order to run a Windows server that allows my business partner to access documents remotely or for us to share various files securely and privately and still serve my mostly Windows-based clients and colleagues. I'm one of, well, two people I know who even use Linux (at least at the OS level and know it).
Since my research shows I **can** do this on Centos 5, the responses that would be most useful to me would be those that focus on how I can do this successfully (even if it seems complicate; I can figure it out with help and/or direction) and what to consider or avoid when creating this virtual guest OS on my Linux dedi.
I will be setting up a site which uses ASP.NET 1.1. I know versions 3.0/3.5 are available, but they are not yet V2.0 compliant. Anyway thst is not the issue - just context.
Would like your advice as to whether it would be better to host this site with a company who looks as though they are specialising in ASP; such as DiscountASP, or Softsyhosting, or go with a general Windows hoster such as Steadfast, Fluidhosting, or 3Essentials?
I know nothing about ASP, so I don't know whether it is not at all neccessary to have a host specifically knowledgable about it, as I am unlikely to ever have problems with it, OR; I will most certainly have to address ASP issues sometime, so it would be essential to have support who really knows ASP.
I've been using GoDaddy hosting for years. Not because I thought it was good, it just was dirty cheap at the time and I knew that they were a reputable company.
However, I'm ready to try something else.
I'm looking for a cheap, reputable windows host that will allow me to use ASP.net and PHP. (aka, my two favorite languages)
I'm not afraid of oversellers. I have been using GoDaddy afterall. However, I would like something a little higher quality and not famous for their lag times and excessive server load.
Any ideas? I'm not hard to please...
[Note, I'd prefer not to receive PM's with people pimping hosts that they manage or have reseller accounts with. But, if you must, at least give me the courtesy of letting me know that up front. ]
I want to get PHP to run on Windows webhost. The webhost is not able to run a simple PHP file with phpinfo() yet. Tech support says I can use .htaccess to get PHP to run.
What is the best way to setup PHP on Windows Host so that it can run Joomla?
Can anyone recommend a windows based host that I can have one account with up to 5 (prefer 10) sites on. Potentially each site might need a small database.
Is the best route to go down a VPS? Can anyone recommend a host.
Ideally it needs to be under $40 pcm to start with.
I need some help finding a reliable windows host. I haven't hosted on windows in a long time, and I don't know how to choose. These are the specs:
Requirements:
* Windows hosting * PHP GD library (installed on most hostings) * Permissions to execute third-party applications (i.e. exe files) * Permissions to execute Internet Explorer
I've used Jodohost before and they were ok. Also was considering weberz.com, but I don't if either will meet these requirements. Any ideas?
IIS 7 ASP.NET 3.5 MSSQL () (no more than 5 dbs needed) MYSQL (no more than 5 dbs needed) Diskspace 5GB - 100GB Bandwidth 100GB - 2000GB Some sort of E-mail Component
Why don't they put their contact address, phone numbers etc. in their website.
I was almost like email/msn contact the reliablesite guys. but then hold it back. It's like you know less about them.
Why the softsyshosting hostings are *** cheap. they must be loaded.
What do you people think about these hosts and also ************ crystaltech
Anyone hosting with above 4 hosts, or any other suggestions..
I need .NET 3.5 to 2.0, SQL 2005, PHP/MYSQL. do not limit number of databases or database space, I can keep both web+database space within the hosting space. about 1GB space and some generous bandwidth. do not need email as I took it from Google. Unlimited domain or atleast 4-5 domain hosting Unlimited subdomain. Could pay around $5-7/mo Tho I never sold a hosting but would be nice if the reselling option just on the list..
I really didn't wanted to change the current host, been with them for 4 years!!! but they are oldies, and paying about $75 a year for a mere 200 MB space.. its a win 2000 server; and separate cost for sql 2000.
Guess what, I need reliable peoples, and a Great customer service.
talked to IXwebhosting. boooo. Even it was a sales chat. you got to wait a long time to see what's the next text could ever pop up. I didn't like that.
im in the market for a very reliable shared hosting windows host. It i s crucial for us to have maximum amount of uptime.
storage and bandwidth needed is not very much about 40-50 gigs maximum per month. It is also important that we are able to add "alias" domains or "pointer" domains to go to the same place.
Price is not really a concern.
I was looking at the 1and1 windows hosting package but im afraid i wont get any support if ever I have any problems.
I'm looking for a good ASP.NET Windows shared host. Here is my current experience thus far:
- WebStrikeSolutions - Excellent web host but doesn't offer MSSQL as part of base package. - WebSecureStores - Excellent host that does offer MSSQL as part of base package but hasn't updated their website in over a year and hasn't released support for .NET 3.5. - DiscountASP.NET - Excellent web host, CP is a little wimpy, doesn't offer MSSQL as part of base package. For me, the essential features are: - Reliable, reasonable performance (especially uptime). - Includes MSSQL databases (limited number, but at least 3-5). - Can handle CMS sites like DotNetNuke without significant slowness.
Can anyone recommend a cheap reliable Windows VPS host? My sites (shared) are hosted on Fluid Hosting , I am very happy with their service but their Win VPS prices are too high for me, I just want to use VPS for testing my applications.
I found cheapvps.co.uk searching on WHT, but their support seems to be patchy?
Ive been searching around recently for a webhost to setup my online development area. The following are my requirements, so if you could point me in the right direction i would be extremly grateful!
Windows Hosting (durr! at least 2 gig space/50 gig bw). ASP.NET 2.0 & AJAX 1.0 (3.5 would be even better, but i can wait until it comes out of BETA). SQL 2000/2005 (I will need upto 10 databases, but none of these stupid 100mb database limits. I would prefer if space as taken out of my web space. ISAPI_REWRITE module (i like to make pretty urls!).
I would prefer UK based servers, but i'll make do with US.
I (and my clients) have a few very small, simple-minded websites...a few php programs for simple forms fetch-and-forward. Is there much PRACTICAL difference between a Windows-based host and a Linux-based host?
Plesk, for an unknown reason to me, creates an "empty binding" on one specific website every time I make a "hosting change" on that very website (subscription in Plesk terms). What I mean by a "hosting change" is things like enabling/disabling SSL, adding/removing aliases and anything similar that might require Plesk to re-arrange the bindings for that website.
The issue exists only on one of the many websites I am hosting/configuring via Plesk, the others don't have any similar issues. The result of the issue is the given website being stopped by IIS since the "empty binding" is already in use by the "Default Web Site".If I go ahead and delete the empty binding from the given website, I can start the website up again. The Plesk version I am having is 12.0.18 Update #38, which I assume is the latest one.
I'm using Vertrigo 2.30 which in turn uses Apache 2.2.26 as part of its stack I am trying to set up virutal host on Windows 7 home premium.in httpd.conf I have uncommented Include conf/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf in C:WindowsSystem32driversetchosts I have
in C:Program Files (x86)VertrigoServApacheconfvertrigo.conf I have
<Directory "C:Program Files (x86)VertrigoServwww"> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks Includes AllowOverride All Order allow, deny Allow from All </Directory>
[code]...
my primary domain still works perfectly but the virtual host I created keeps loading 403 error page I have checked the Apache error log and I found two instanses of
[Tue Dec 31 08:33:29 2013] [error] [client 198.0.65.217] script 'C:/Program Files (x86)/VertrigoServ/www/vhost/modules.php' not found or unable to stat, referer: URL....I have no clue where or why its reading a module.php file granted I do use Nuke Evolution on my primary site but the only page in the virual host folder is a index.html I have checked and double checked.
I am using Windows Server 2008 R2 with Plesk 12.0.18 Update #25 with single IP address assigned to the server.
Is it possible to do the following with only 1 IP address:
-Host 4 shared hosting websites on the same IP but also use the same IP address to install and setup a shared SSL Cert. for hostname AND for 1 of 4 hosted websites ...
I recently upgraded from Plesk 11.5 to 12.0. I also just got an extra IPv4-address for my server (provider is Strato), unfortunately I have some problems with adding it to Plesk.
The IP should be assigned automatically through DHCP, but when I did a Reread IP in Plesk, nothing happened. I tried to manually add the IP, but then Plesk manually configured it and I lost the IPv4-connectivity (IPv6 kept working though).
Now when I want to remove the IP, I get the following error:
Is this a bug or a problem with my specific configuration?
With Windows 2003 server, there are comprehensive lists of what you need to do to secure the server before use. For Windows 2008, I wonder is there such a list? Or is it true as what I heard from Microsoft that it is already secured out of the box?
Anyone has any resources on the hardening or preparation of 2008 for server hosting uses?
We currently have a web based apllication running on a web server, in addition we have two servers running as back up. The application running on these servers is business critical, so important we have 100% or near as up time.
We were wondering what is required to run these servers from within our own office, i.e. is it possible/practical/affordable.
We are only a reasonable sized company so cost is important.
Does anyone know if this is possible, and if so what costs might be involved, what we want is total physical access to our servers.
I was wondering if it's possible to transfer your site from a server to an addon domain on a webhosting plan at hostmonster.com? And is it possible to restore it back?
Like for an example I bought a dedicated server and setup the domains:
I have Plesk 11.5 (service provider mode) on a Windows 2008 server IIS7.Most of my sites are developed in .asp and therefore i use a custom 500-100.asp error page that check s the IP of the visitor then displays either a friendly error, or if its my IP a full error of what has happened (it also emails me the error). This allows me to debug pages easily whilst developing and to keep an eye on anyone trying SQL Injection hacks on my sites (as the error and email also have session variables and IP address).I dont have root access to the server as it is a Webfusion dedicated server.I have following the Plesk documentation -
1) Switch on custom errors for the subscription 2) Look in virtual directories and navigate to error documents 3) Find the error in question (500:100) and change it to point at either a file or URL
FILE - I had the data centre add in the 500-100.asp error page in to the virtual template so that my page is available in the list of virtual files - this didn't work but that maybe because its not a static page??
URL - when i add the path it says its incorrect, if i add a fully qualified address, it accepts it but it doesn't work.give me a specific example of the URL that can be entered relative to the root as the format in the documentation isn't accepted. The last step is to restart IIS which is also an issue as i cant seem to do this from the Plesk panel..It is as if it isn't catching the 500:100 error, and only catching the general 500 error??
