Default Relative Links Go To HTTPS

Mar 19, 2008

One of the machines we have at LW crashed 2 weeks ago.

we use relative links for pages and images throughout our site, but now in the new machine, every relative link request gets sent to HTTPS instead of a regular HTTP request.

SSL With Links In Https Pages...

Jun 18, 2009

I have an SSL cert installed to have a secure commerce area. Some of the pages have external links to non-secure sites like say [url]The padlock icon breaks and warns that there's unauthorized content. The hosting provider says it's because the external links need to be https links. Obviously that can't be done to a non-secure external site.

So the question is: do external http links break security on a secure https page? If so, is there a work around other than removing external links?

Plesk 11.x / Linux :: Selected Site On Default IP Via HTTPS

Jun 16, 2014

I have Plesk 11.5 installed on my server. There are about 30 sites on the same shared IP address. I need to set up a site to be accessible via https://<ip-address-of-the-server> . According to the documentation I went to Setting -> IP Addresses and selected the desired site from the drop down. Now http://<ip-address-of-the-server> (note, 80th port) works like a charm. Unfortunately https:// displays only the first page of the selected site; all CSS, JS and other files are not found (404).

I did some research and found that Nginx forwards the requests to Apache for all the PHP files and tries to handle all the static files by itself (what is expected and correct). But it looks like that there is no special configuration for nginx which would specify where to get these static files for the IP address, and Nginx just uses the first loaded config (started from b in my case).

I temporary resolved this issue by modifying the last_nginx.conf for the desired domain this way: listen XX.XX.XX.XX:443 default_server ssl;

Note I added "default_server" directive. Of course it would be erased on each reconfiguration of the config files, but as for now I do not see how I can put it in custom nginx.conf or on the server servel level. I reckon Plesk should include the directive in the file the same way as it produces last_httpd_ip_default.conf Apache config for the selected domain. It looks to be an easy fix on the template level, may be I will do it later, but for now this is just the bug report.

Plesk 12.x / Windows :: How To Set Whole Website To Https And Redirect All Http To Https

Oct 7, 2014

I´ve read that a whole https website might be better for SEO than just a mixed version. So I want to change the whole website to https.

We are using Plesk 12 on Win 2008 R2.
One Website is using DotNetNuke 7.3.2.

How can I automatically set the whole website to https?

What happens to the users that just type domainname.com without http or https.?

What is the right search engine friendly technique to permanently redirect to the https version even when the user is not using the application protocol prefix http/https?

Where can I do the setup in Plesk 12 fro Windows?

Are their any other drawbacks that I have to think over before I do the changes?

Apache :: Redirect HTTPS To Another HTTPS Address

Jul 6, 2014

I have set up an Apache web server that has ssl enabled. If I go to https://myserver.com I get the 'it works!' page and the certificate is valid and trusted. If I go to https://myserver.com/myapp that also works (it's an Oracle weblogic deployed java app that I'm fronting with Apache).

I would like to configure Apache so that when a user goes to simply https://myserver.com it automatically directs them to https://myserver.com/myapp rather than showing the 'It works!' page. I have read some documentation and experimented with setting a redirect via the https.conf file and even the ssl.conf file but nothing seems to work. I either get a 404 or simply the 'It works! page.

Home Web Server Set Up, Relative Paths Not Working

Mar 21, 2008

I've had a web server set up for a while at home to do some testing. I can view the site locally using my IP but all relative paths of CSS or images on the html page (eg /something/title.gif) don't show up. Bizarrely, if I go to[url], they appear!

Anyone know what the issue may be? The "DocumentRoot" value in Apache conf is pointing to the correct folder.

Apache :: Mod Rewrite To Overcome Relative URLs

Jun 3, 2013

I've taken over a site that caters for client access. They all access there own folder, and in the folder the files have an include with a relative path as below.

/core - contains all the actual files
/client/file.php -
<? include "../core/file.php";?>
but with the growing number of clients I want to go a level deeper and separate them better...
/uk/client/file.php -
<? include "../../core/file.php";?>

This is fine but when the files are included, they too have there own relative includes and this is where it breaks.
There are so many files I can't easily go through them to change all the include paths so I would like to maybe do a rewrite to fake the path? I've tried this...

RewriteRule^uk/$ /

But that doesn't work.

How Are They Doing This With Links In My Stats

Jan 2, 2008

When I go through my AWStats under "Links from an external page (other web sites except search engines)" I see several domains that have linked to me. When I visit these sites they are generally porn and drug sites that do not contain a link. Some of the sites redirect you to other sites. When you look up these domain names they are all from Russia.

These sites account for mulitple hits as high as +14.5%. These sites do not represent the content on my sites.

My questions are.

How do I stop this? I have found banning IP addresses does nothing.

How are they doing this?

Can this lead to your site being blacklisted?

Script To Changes Links

Apr 27, 2007

My company hosts our primary website on a Linux box. We link to a third party for term life quotes. The quoting server is going down this weekend and I need to change the links to their page to one on our site. Unfortunately, our content management server is also down while we re-organized our network.

I have SSH access to the live server. Can someone tell me how to search for a specific href in files under the document root and automagically change them all? It would save me the time of finding each one and changing it by hand.

have a few different list of links in my link section for eg one page i give people links to about 20 or so games company where they can buy from. another has a small list of forums people can join eg, another list of places that i shop at.i do not have any reciprocal links with any of them and only included them cos i thought it would be handy for my readers. now can i leave the links or should i take it all off because all these external links would not help in my pr? there seems to be so many conflicting opinions

how many external links can you have in a page before it's bad for you.

idea to just use robots.txt on all these pages to be on the safe side?

Hiding Affiliate Links

Jul 3, 2007

I'm creating a site similar to slickdeals & bensbargains and I'm trying to find a script that I can integrate into my text editor (tinymce.moxicode) that will create a tiny url as well as the redirect page automatically using php & mysql.

Looking at the following mouseover link from slickdeals:

slickdeals dot net/?pno=6999&lno=1&afscr=1

where it always starts with slickdeals dot net/

?pno=6999 each deal added gets a +1 to this number. The next deal would be 7000.

&lno=1 each link within a particular deal. Where the first link to the deal is lno=1, the next link (rebate) would be lno=2, etc.

&afscr=1 I'm not sure what this is for, I moused over a bunch of their links and they are all =1.

But the bottom line effect is that when you click on one of their links, it brings you momentarily to a blank page and then bestbuy dot com/etc/etc/etc comes up. The user never sees the funky affiliate link.

The best I've found so far is gentlesource dot com/short-url-script/

Plesk 11.x / Windows :: Web Page Displaying Related Links

Oct 1, 2014

I was asked by a user why he only saw a page with 'related links' when he went to the web site. I checked and saw the same thing if I typed www.domain.tld. If I just typed domain.tld, the page displayed fine. In trying different things tonite, I cleared my cache and now neither url works.

I am using Parallels Plesk Panel 11.5.3. If I click the 'Preview' button on the panel, everything looks great. If I click the 'Open' button, I get the 'related links' page.Today, the shcnf.com link seems to be working fine and the 'Open' button in Parallels Plesk Panel works, but the www.shcnf.com link is still showing a 'related links' page.

My DNS settings show:

shcnf.com record type: A value: 198.144.188.31
www.shcnf.com record type: CNAME value: shcnf.com

I do not currently have a preferred domain set in my hosting settings. I tried setting one the other night with no luck, though I was also playing with the DNS settings (I tried setting www.shcnf.com to an A value with the IP, hoping to force it to work).

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: Chroot -> Too Many Levels Of Symbolic Links

Aug 27, 2014

I am testing out Plesk control panel 12 - looks promising, but the moment I hit chroot-ed environment, many things go wrong.

Set up:

Virutal server, running linux (64 bit Ubuntu 14.04 Server LTS);
Plesk Control Panel 12.0.18, Update #14;
Currently running on a trial license;
Brand new installation on a dedicated server;

I have two disks, one is for system stuff, plus plesk; second disk is supposed to be dedicated to /var and /home

root@testthing:/var/log# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/vda1 40G 8.7G 29G 24% /
....
/dev/vdb1 493G 2.9G 465G 1% /disk2

[Code] .....

(to save place, I've removed the regular stuff that is everywhere and makes not difference for this case ... I think)

The plesk installation went just fine; update ran fine; I can register customers, their websites run fine ... as long as they get no shell at all, or regular shell to the server.

BUT: we need to jail all our customers under chroot. If that is not possible, we can't use Plesk.

I created a Service plan cloned form the Default domain plan and changed only to give the users ssh access to the server with a chroot env.

When I try to register a new client with this new service plan, it fails with lots of error messages (one per directory it tries to make), like this:

chrootmng: cannot set permissions for "/var/www/vhosts/demowh1.blah.blah/lib":Too many levels of symbolic links
...
Dropping the GUI and xperimenting in a shell, as root: If I run:
root@testthing:/usr/local/psa/admin/sbin# ./chrootmng --create --source=/var/www/vhosts/chroot/ --target=/var/www/vhosts/demowh1.blah.blah
open_basedir_with_nofollow: opeat failed: `var', Too many levels of symbolic links

[Code] ....

But, if I run it like this:

root@testthing:/usr/local/psa/admin/sbin# ./chrootmng --create --source=/var/www/vhosts/chroot/ --target=/disk2/var/www/vhosts/demowh1.blah.blah

It proceeds to make a copy of all directories where it should.

So, at this point I am pretty sure that the problem is my link between /var and /disk2.

Still, I want to keep the user data on a separate disk from the system/plesk data.

Ecatel = Colinks = Iqarus | Links With Russian Business Network (RBN)

Nov 30, 2008

Yes, this is probably my first and last thread about reviews about any service provider.

I personally hate bashing people and always tend to resolve matters on my own with providers/customers without involving 3rd party (current/past customers and providers can acknowledge this) but this time its gone way out of the line and this thread is purely meant as a negative review of Ecatel or Colinks or Iqarus or whatever you call this slimy set of people. I am done speaking soft and trying to act nicely to them.
What made me go this far? If a provider accepts the fact that he is wrong after proving countless number of times, I would not make this thread. Heck, I would not make this thread if they did NOT agree that its their fault. This case is gone so far that these people blame me (personally) for all the crap that they have dug. Now its time to bury them in the same pit.

They have ripped me of for around 5000 EUR worth of business every month. I won't go into details but the reason for cancellation is described later in this thread. They have ignored all later attempts of contact after terminating services with us. So I have no clue as to what their problem was.

Coming to the thread title now... does anyone know about the fact the Ecatel was formerly known as Iqarus and before that as Colinks. If there are any senior/old members on this forum who can comment on it, I am sure they can provide quite a number of incidents where this Company has scammed 100+ number of clients.

Here are few links right here on WHT that shows Iqarus's scams:[url]
9 100s of threads claiming their history to be fraudulent

For proof here is one:[url]

Quote:

213.202.214.0/32
Removed ecatel.net SR04
2008-09-28 21:19:58
SBL44871 ECATEL-AS AS29073 = iqarus.com = Colinks = as29073.net
89.248.160.0/20
Removed ecatel.net SR04
2008-09-28 21:20:11
SBL44870 ECATEL-AS AS29073 = iqarus.com = Colinks hosting spammers

At this point it is very easy to tell what kind of a shaddy organization this is. Sending SPAM emails consecutively and become known for it... hmmm.

Okay, lets all assume that now Ecatel is a clean organization. May be the bad habits have been left to die with the two old fraudulent Companies. But NO! They are the same set of people and have turned even worse... Now they are in direct relationship with the a Russian cyber-gang known as the Russian Business Network (RBN). I make a big claim here because the RBN is probably wanted by most law-enforcement authories around the world. You can read more about RBN here, here and here (please read this in particular). Now here are my findings depicting RBN and Ecatel's affiliation:[url].[url]
Here is a detailed explaination of their recent outage which also shows their relationship with the RBN AND their slimy activies (I love this link):[url]

You can just Google "rbn ecatel" and find thousands of results deeming this organizations links with the RBN. I am now not the sole person having these facts. Most people involved with networking security know about this and now its time for the layman to know too.

At this point I proved that it is safer to keep away from Ecatel so that:

- you can stay away from all RBN related prosectutions

- prevent yourself from being scammed (colinks/iqarus quote)

I know pretty well how Ecatel is going to react/reply to this thread. Obviously for starters put up a pile of garbage info they will generate on me with no factual evidence whatsoever (they have gone far enough as to mention I have links with RBN and thus my rant here). AND completely ignoring to defend themselves of the claims I have made above (its their specality on escaping such blames).

I urge everyone of you to first ask Ecatel for a response for the above claims and then (if they last that long; they can open a new thread, WHT loves good content) they can hammer me with all the garbage they will pile up. Notice here that, all my proof of evidence is directly quote from 3rd party reliable websites and not from my email inbox that only I can verify. Ofcourse Ecatel will ignore this statement and continue to hammer me with falsified information, but I have another reliable 3rd party website that I can use as protection (as atleast he says the situation the same way as I do).[url]

I hope you all make proper and informed decisions. Oh btw, according to Dutch law (or perhaps every country's law) an Internet Service Provider needs to have an agreement with their client about what they are allowed to run on their network (known as Terms of Service/Acceptable Usage Policy) and Ecatel has none. These people can be shutdown easily because of just this, forget all the RBN and crap!

Its 4:30 AM here. Will go and get a cup of coffee and wait for replies. Will definite get my lawyer working on these guys. I am hell determined to close this case for good. And extremely sorry for the long thread...

Plesk 11.x / Linux :: FileShare Email Links Not Working With MSMTP Relay Only Mailserver

Jun 20, 2014

We were using the mailserver on our linux install, but have since changed over to an ms exchange server. With that I removed the mailserver and installed MSMTP relay only mailserver (SMTP client) option.

I configured the External SMTP Server settings under Tools & Settings / Mail with a valid email address password host name and port of 587. When I save it says settings saved.

Since doing this I have been unable to use the email link option for share files in the file share portion of my domain. When I try to select a user from the list to send the email to or even type an external email all I get is the error "Unable to send email".

When I checked the maillog file in /usr/local/psa/var/log, I get this error "Jun 20 15:42:59 u16271698 msmtp: host=smtp.1and1.com tls=off auth=on user=to@email.ca from=psaadm recipients=to@email.ca errormsg='cannot use a secure authentication method' exitcode=EX_UNAVAILABLE"

Where I have proper emails configured where I placed "to@email.ca"

How can I get this working with the MSMTP relay only mailserver (SMTP client) option installed?

In about 2 weeks, I will be applying an SSL certificate that would add an ‘S’ to the HTTP (e.g. https)

My questions is: After applying this SSL certificate, which adds an “S”, will the link saved in my users’ favorites still work? Or do I have to add some HTML code that will redirect them?

Https And Http

I am maintaining a site that is totally on a secure folder. I have been asked to make only the things like the cart to be secure and to make the rest of the site non-secure.

there is an https and an http folder on the server all of the site is now on the https folder. I thought all I needed to do is move the pages I wanted to be non-secure to the http folder and then use an absolute address when I needed to refer betweem them.

I called my hosting people (the people who originally developer the site and made it all secure before handing to it me) and asked them about what all I need to do. they said its very complicated because I am dealing with 2 different root directories and didn't offer me much info on how to do it myself instead they just said if I can't figure it out they will do it for a price.
