Mar 26, 2008My friend asked me earlier if I knew any places in EU that allow IRC, have Unmetered 100Mbit (SHARED, not Dedicated), and allow torrents. I didn't know so I come to WHT for help.
The host must have:
Unmetered 100Mbit Shared
IRC Allow
Allow Torrents
DDoS Protection (not required, but is a bonus)
Must be in Europe
I'm unsure if asking this is allowed (since the host must allow torrents), if it isn't allowed please lock the thread.

English Friendly Hosts With Servers In Continental Europe
Aug 29, 2008I have a handful of short-term projects that require me to have webspace on servers in France, Germany, and Spain. Unfortunately, I don't know any European languages other than English.
Can anyone suggest web hosts with servers in France, Germany, or Spain that are friendly to English-speakers? That is, a website with an English-translated interface and ideally billing/support in English.

Oct 22, 2009I'm specifically looking for a server in the European area since I am from South Africa.
The reason being they will be more or less in the same timezone as I am and they also generally provide the fastest ping times (220ms to a server in Europe as opposed to 350ms to a server in USA).
I will be using the server as our own hosting space and hopefully be able to rent a monthly license for Parallels Plesk so that I may be able to resell hosting space - this is the primary reason for the dedicated server. I would like to know whether getting at least a quad core for this setup is essential or if I can get away with a dual core (in the case of hosting say 50 - 100 different websites).
So far I have been looking at keyweb.de which has a dual-core setup at 79euro installation fee and 49euro monthly fee. Their quad-core setup is 99euro installation and 59euro monthly. One drawback is it seems that they don't install Ubuntu linux (which is the OS i'm after). Another one is that their website isn't very intuitive - I cannot see whether it is possible to bundle Plesk with my order. I do however like the fact that they generally allow torrents.

Apr 30, 2008actually I have my dedicated server with ThePlanet since many years ago, where I'm really happy, but due to recent spanish laws, I need to move everything to a european dedicated server as ThePlanet isn't certificated at the "Safe Harbor directive".

What I'm looking for, is a serius company (no reseller company) with similar dedicated servers configurations. What I'm looking for is also a 1Gbps uplink connection. Bandwith is not so important, as my monthly bandwidth is only about 300Gb.
I've seen very fast (connection) servers in Netherland but don't know how serious they are.
OVH (apparently) looks also fine, but I've read very bad reviews about them.

Feb 22, 2008After being hit by a DDoS (managed to evade it for a while, but it's still painful due to downtimes) I'm looking for a DDoS-protected server somewhere in Europe. I don't care about the exact location, it just has to be outside Canada and the USA. I do not require a lot of traffic - using just about 1.5GBs per day, diskspace also is not an issue, so the main things is the DDoS protection, connection availability and the general level of service.
Searching through this forum, I've found the only possible option for a DDoS-protected being DataPipe (contacted and awaiting for a quote already). Have I missed something else? Are there any alternative good hosters with reliable networks and protection in the EU?

I'll need a reasonable amount of bandwidth, so this is a consideration.
I'm based in the UK, but willing to look at other, more digitally enlightened countries nearby (Norway, Finland, France, Germany, etc) to get a better price since servers are very expensive here.
The server be hosting a big AJAX application so latency is a consideration also.

I run a VBulletin forum with - 575,614 post, 14,369 members and 2.9 million page views per month. On average there are 300 - 400 people on the site.
The server right now is a Linux CentOS VPS with 1.1 gigs of memory. The hosting provider keeps telling me that I need a dedicated server.
Question # 1 - In your opinion - do you think its time for a dedicated server?
The server I am looking at has these stats:
E8300
2 GB RAM
250GB HD
cPanel
Management
The price I was given is pretty good. So the offer is going to be hard to pass up.

Renting Colocated Servers As Dedicated Servers
Oct 11, 2009I am just colocating servers and managing them myself, and renting services off of them. In the future I would like to start offering dedicated servers as well. I am wondering if many companies do this, or if its more of a general practice to just setup as a reseller? The worst part that comes to mind is thinking of how to do billing for the bandwidth per month. With my setup I would only be offering flat bandwidth packages (like 2TB a month) but even so, I cant think of anyway to automate it so WHMCS knows if they went over, if so, how much, etc.

Feb 15, 2008Does anyone know of a dedicated servers in USA/Canada that allow IRCd, and the price is UNDER $70/mo.
A server that has atleast 1GHz of processing power is good, such as a (Dual) P3 or a Celeron, or anything better.
It needs atleast 512MB of ram, and atleast 10GB IDE/SCSI (SCSI preferred, not needed) HDD.
And with atleast 1TB+ bandwidth.
Netdirekt has a $50 server which is what I need, though its in Germany, I prefer a USA/Canada server.

May 19, 2008Currently I run my forum with a host that is having too much downtime for my liking. I run a new forum on vBulletin with 210 + members with 1-5 new members. My main requirements are PHP5, MySQL5 and OpenSSL. What would your suggestions be for a host / server specification? Unfortunately as I am not using any advertising so my monthly budget is rather low ($50). We currently have a dedicated server with a 2.4ghz processor and 512mb ram but I would be more than happy to move to a vps if it would be more reliable.

Mirroring And Dedicated Servers
Apr 3, 2006We’ve been asked to offer a technical proposal for a new established TV station, and the IT manager of the station has a long list of requirements, we covered it all, only one issues lift as we never done it before:
They want about 20-100 GB server for hosting and they want to have a mirror server, incase the 1st server was down, so it would redirect the visitors to the mirror server, I'm thinking of getting them a dedicated or semi-dedicated server, but how do you do the mirror issue.
Some one said to get two dedicated servers, but::
1. How we make it that when one is down, it automatically directed to the other, I believe there is software’s for that, so were do we install this software: the original server or the mirror server.
2. Should they be from two different companies and to different countries?
3. The web site will be with CMS and DB, how do you make sure that the mirror server have all the new data that was updated in the 1st server’s DB, do they have like shared DB or something, and how..
Any other information, links, or suggested hosting sites for reliable dedicated server (with big bandwidth) would be greatly appreciated.. thanx

Apr 28, 2009I am starting photo sharing site.For this i am searching for good Windows dedicated server provider.My budget $400-500 with server management & firewall.I am confused in take 2 servers (1 DB & 1 Web) or 1 server.I am thinking if i take 2 server it must be $500+ for good processor.
I have 2 choices :-
1) Take 2 server
2) Take 1 server with separate Hdd for Web & DB server with raid(I have i doubt here can i take 2 separate size Hdd for raid 2 x 500GB for photos storing 2 x 73GB 15k for DB with raid 1)

Oct 2, 2009In these past many years I have used 7 major data centers which provide collocation and dedicated servers.
Out of these 7 provides, what would make a client impressed?
One is off course the level of reliability, the network must be up without anyone bothering it.
Second is the level of security, when someone is bothering it, their team must be extremely responsive to provide help to restore service back to normal, it doesn't matter if there is an additional fee for it, availability is crucial.
Third would be the response time, which is critical, because this gets personal. When a client needs an "urgent" help, if the provider successfully responded the urgency in a timely manner, it will build an great sense of trust.
It's like you as the provider is storing up "trust funds" into your clients. If you keep doing this, when something bad happens, you will have enough trust funds deposited into your client's faith, so they will eventually understand the situation.
From these many years of using many major provider, I can only experience an amazing level of service from one single provider, which are always dependable and are able to respond to my inquiries within minutes, not hours.
A client expect a reply in minutes when they are leasing a dedicated server or even collocating their servers with a provider.
So far, only one seems to be able to provide such an excellent service.
This is not a rating about a particular provider, but I would like to give an input to dedicated server providers on what's important when it comes to building a good client relationship.
Willing to do an extra mile help would definitely a big plus which I also experience with the same provider.
Lastly, I would like to leave my total satisfaction review for the one provider which surpasses my expectation being their client. The one and only provider which I personally experienced an outstanding level of service is ThePlanet.
With their pricing, the level of service I received as a client is outstanding.
Should I Go With Semi Dedicated Servers
