How do these CPU's compare to each other? From what I've read so far I'm leaning towards the Q6600.
different speed between Quadcore Q6600 2.4Ghz and Xeon 3060 Dual core 2.4Ghz? Typically i can tell the Q6600 is faster than Xeon 3060 but i am not sure which one is faster and more stable for dedicated server.

What stood between Intel Xeon 3200 series Quad Core VS Intel Core2Quad Q6600?
I'm thinking in changing my actual dedicated server, but I'm not sure if I will win with the change.
I use it for web hosting, but I am going to need a lot of Mysql use.
I also want to work with Flash Media Server or Red5, but I have the project stopped.
All are almost in the same price. What do you recommend me?
I have never touched Linux and my Server is Windows 2003, do you recommend me to change to Linux?

Softlayer is pricing these both the same, and I've been a big fan of the
x3220 for a long time now. I haven't been able to fine ANY reasonably priced servers that can out perform the x3220 in computational ability.
That said, does anyone have any figures that would suggest the 5410 is better?

I just ordered a dell server a few days ago and have noticed in addition to a free harddrive upgrade I now have an upgraded processor for the same price.

The question for me is which is better? The previous processor was the low energy 105W one which suited me fine as I'm co-locating this to a DC where they are very strict on power consumption.
Is this one going to provide a noticable performance increase over the first? Is it a major power hog?

Planning on getting a new dedicated server with 4GB RAM, and a 500GB 7.2k SATA2 Hard Drive.
Which processor do you guys suggest? I know the Q6600 is older and runs hotter, but it has better specs than the Q8200. Would I really notice a difference if I'm only hosting static sites without any video streaming or anything?

I have read benchmark comparisons and found the Q9400 and even the Q9300 to be a better performing processor compared to the Q6600 processor, even with 2MB less L2 cache.
I am just wondering, how significant of a difference do you think the Q6600 processor and the Q9400 processor is in a server environment? Currently I have a Q6600 processor but am looking to upgrade my server, possibly to the Q9400 processor..will it be worth it? It's not that much more expensive..the only thing I am concerned about is the 2mb L2 cache loss.
My site is "kind-of" high traffic. We receive a lot of connections and visitors, and most-importantly my sites are run by PHP and MySQL databases.
Please help me choose the right processor. Currently I have 4GB DDR2-800mhz installed, which I will be upgrading to 8GB DDR2-800mhz, no matter what processor I choose to run.
I discovered that upgrading to 1ghz RAM is just not worth the extra money because the performance gain is very little and not noticeable.
Would anyone possibly know of a Intel Quad Core processor that has 8mb or more of L2 cache, 1333mhz FSB, and is comparable to the processors listed above and relatively the same in price?
There's something I've always wondered, what makes a Xeon a Xeon?
For instance, what is the difference between a Core 2 Quad Q9300 and a Quad-Core Xeon E5420. Both are quad core, have a 1333MHz FSB, run at 2.5GHz, have SSE4.1, any all the specs seem identical.
Only difference I see is the Xeon has 12MB cache compared to the Q9300's 6MB.
But generally speaking, what makes a Xeon such much better for a server environment than a Core 2 processor.
Is a Core2Quad Q6600 cpu a good choice in a dedicated server compared to a Xenon or Dual Xenons?

Intended for a vbulletin forum so lots of database queries, I assume the 8GB ram would be good for that.

Off course everyone will say the Q6600 now (i know that myself), but the Q6600 server has 4 GB ram and the P9500 server 8 GB. What would be the best choice?
it is for VPS hosting. In my opinion the P9500 is better.

we are going to setup a new server for one of ours customers:
Dual Processor QUAD Core Clovertown
4GB RAM
3 x 250GB Sata II hard drive in RAID 5
1 x 500GB backup HDD
CentOS + directadmin control panel (with MySQL5, PHP5 and Apache2)
this server will be used for e-learning (forum, chat, etc)
it is possible that we have to increase the RAM for 8GB
the questions are:
- do we need 64bits or it is better to use 32bits OS?
- with how much of RAM memory we do have to use 64bits?
I have taken the decision to move from shared to VPS in order to have two hostings (less risky) and learn more about servers (will certainly have to take a dedi one day).
Now I need to find a plan I can afford and I must say that I have all the variables:
- would like to pay with paypal on a monthly basis to avoid CC fees as I am outside the US,
- my budget is $10/month and would stretch it to $15 if it is for a very very good reason,
- a single dedicated IP would be enough, but would appreciate having more for SEO reasons,
- looking for linux based VPS (don't see why I would take Windows),
- don't have the least experience in managing a server though an experienced Windows
user and willing to learn,
- have used cPanel (not a fan) and 1and1 control panel, and don't think getting used to another CP would be a problem for me,
- the server will mainly host static websites (very light html pages) with medium traffic (a total of 100 K pageviews a month), I also have a wordpress blog with minimal traffic and a punbb forum with little traffic,
- I currently use something like 5 GB of Bandwidth monthy alltogether! so I think that leaves me a lot of room to expand
- storage space isn't a problem as I am currently using less than 400 Mb with a lot of useless files, so something like 1 Gig would be more than enough space,
- if I can (not a choice criterion), I would put two proxies on the server using an additional 120 GB monthly bandwidth,
Which is a better option? Both priced same, I know with the Xeon 5310 the possibility of upgrading to dual cpu's.
